12:00 PM
I'd probably be having tremendous trouble finding a common topic with one

From a documentary I found, anyway, not sure if it's 100% accurate, but it made sense the way they said it

if you exclude the language barrier
hmm makes sense I guess

@user1306322 They made tons of money, but I guess that was rich clients, I wonder if it's worth it if you're not very rich xD
@user1306322 Ask them to teach you japanese, just VERY expensive :P

and then these guys would have to be pros in what they do
ok sounds not affordable

Hostess clubs are a common feature in the night-time entertainment industry of Japan, East Asian countries and other areas with a high Japanese population. They employ primarily female staff and cater to males seeking drinks and attentive conversation. The more recent host clubs are similar establishments where primarily male staff cater to females. Host and hostess clubs are considered part of mizu shobai or "water trade" in Japan. == Hostess clubs == === Japan === In Japan, two types of bars are hostess clubs and kyabakura (キャバクラ), a portmanteau of kyabarē (キャバレー, lit. "cabaret") and...
That one
"...and a night of non-sexual entertainment could cost $500 to $600"
So, how about it? xD

12:04 PM
a night
sounds about right
still I wonder what activities they engage in

Talking, from what I could read it might involve flirting, but nothing further, physical. The host(ess) serves them drinks. But who knows
"Male hosts pour drinks and will often flirt with their clients..."
"Some host clubs have a dedicated stage for a performance, usually a dance, comedy sketch, etc."

so "cute boys" IRL

@Taisho that skirt is huuuge

Dang, but nothing in the front tho, looks more like a VERY fancy dress :o

12:08 PM
I guess if you don't watch anime, you could talk to guys/girls like that for a fair price

@user1306322 Not sure if you are referencing some show or something with the quotation marks, but I guess so, yeah :P

no, just an analogy to Logan's much loved cute girls

@user1306322 Yeah, I guess xD
Aha

entertainment
non-sexual
got it
like a friend, but not
for money

Yup, basically
If you're lonely and rich, you can pay someone to hang out with you
Still cheaper than marriage, I guess

12:10 PM
and less legal obligations

Yup

that is some high level social status stuff
I don't have many friends but I still rarely have something to discuss with them deeply

From what I hear/read, socially Japan is going somewhere strange, with less people wanting to get married and thus less children for later generations. Meanwhile older generations getting older and older. So this would be a logical result of that independence, socially

usually it's the superficial stuff like what's the current state of affairs on job searching and such
I'm not sure these guys could… but then they're probably gonna be hired multiple times

@user1306322 Yeah. I don't have many real life friends and I suck at maintaining friendships, because I spend most of my time online, they do reach out to me and know I'm not good at that sort of thing and tolerate my social inactivity xD

12:14 PM
so then they could remember the topics their mistress is into
it's not the social inactivity, it's that your interests are probably different from theirs

From what I have heard in the documentary, clients would often ask for the same host the next time and sometimes clients would even bring them gifts, anywhere from something simple to expensive gifts
@user1306322 I guess it is, sort of, one of them is also a gamer and watches some anime, but we barely see eachother and he's more of an xboner than a pc gamer :P

I think that young guy in Nana freelanced as a "companion"

What a topic, hehe ^^;

the one with a holy grenade lighter

Does not ring a bell, is nana an anime/manga/novel?

12:17 PM
something like this :D
http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/img-thing?.out=jpg&size=l&tid=12599770 lol at the link

@user1306322 THAT I do know xD Poor rabbit :p

img-thing

Hahaha
What a strange url :p
y u no filename

Shin would get gifts from his clients

shin chan?

12:20 PM
not the crayon one

I still don't have a clue what you are talking about, apart from someone with a holy hand grenade

Nana, the manga and anime

That guy with the blue hair above?
aha, okay

about a girl who became friends with another girl, both named Nana and the other one is a singer
Shin is a guitarist I think who joined their group
I don't remember very much about it, because it's mostly about the indecisiveness of both Nanas and how their band only knows one song

12:23 PM
Cute :o

"I need your luuuv! imma bro ken row oze!"

@user1306322 Hahaha xD

I wonder how many times that line is heard in the anime
I bet it nears 200 times

Lol xD

both of my better friends just started their career as lawyers so we don't have a lot to talk about now
the other one is a chemist

12:25 PM
Any chemistry there?
Eh? Eh?
No?
I'll let myself out

and another one is just a chill guy who is fine with any topic which sometimes infuriates me coz I don't know what else to discuss with him
no, she just got married last year
to a biochemist

@user1306322 Quantum physics?
Oh lol, so plenty of chemistry there
Dat relevant joke, YES
Ba-dum Tisss

ye they're studying in Checz… Chechz… Czchezchz!
cheque, please!
[badumtsing intensifies]

Oh god xD

they're improving their chemistry in cheque to get a cool job there in the anti-cancer stuff development lab

12:27 PM
Wow, cool :o
That's the technical term

they say sciences are not very popular as career choice in Europe, so they just thought why the hell not some more chemistry

"Anti-cancer stuff development lab"
:P
I'm in computer sciences, I'm a scientist! YES
xD

if there was a job in Fun, I'd be the CEO

I'm still not sure what field to start in but I guess it's gonna be a programming job either way
I hate that show it's stupid
I dislike most modern western cartoons
they're not fun
not even a cute girl in sight

12:32 PM
Hm, I guess it's because I was still 'young' when that was on tv, that I don't mind it, but I don't like any of the newer western cartoons/children shows

we had Beavis and Butthead

Heck, I didn't start watching anime until about 4 years ago or so?

anime, hmm

Before that I did watch anime, but I didn't know it was not american
dragonball z, pokemon, yugioh, shin chan, hamtaro, that sort of thing
That is shown on tv in holland
A dutch dub of the first episode of naruto got me into anime
xD

my first time was (not counting Sailor Moon and Grendaizer, and Speedy the Racer or whatevs of course), I suppose was about in the seventh grade when a friend burned me a dvd with ergo proxy which didn't make any sense but was cooool

12:35 PM
Oh my goodness
This is anime?
I never knew XD
I mean, he's wearing clogs. How much more dutch can it get XD
Was my logic back then

westernized anime?
oh and Evangelion!
that I've seen before Ergo Proxy plenty

damn not that I think about it, anime has been with me my whole life

Dutch name and then the japanese in parentheses

there wasn't a "first time" in a classic sense

12:37 PM

The first time was disguised for me as being either dutch or english cartoon, instead of knowing what it actually was :P

Slayers on MTV

Omg, almost every single cartoon I watched as a child is an anime
But dubbed dutch

Elfen Lied… maybe it was after

My life is a lie!

12:38 PM
maybe it's just that MAL has accepted all non-US cartoons as anime?

I saw Elfen Lied at 14 years old, when a classmate got me to watch it with her

mmm nice
tell me more

And then added a japanese name to it?

no-no, about the classmate
what happened

@user1306322 Hahaha, sadly I was very clueless and didn't even realise I liked her until it was too late
Still regret not having the courage to tell her until the very end

12:40 PM
don't worry, she probably wouldn't know what to do with you even if you'd figured it out then :D
I've heard a number of funny stories about my classmates
relationships are like a whole science field

@user1306322 She did invite me to her place quite often, but yeah, I was naive and very clueless as a teenager xD Not too interested in girls. Especially compared to classmates

there is a lot to know before it doesn't seem stupid or boring

Hahaha yeah
So complicated! >_< How are we supposed to know all of that stuff?!

her mom shoulda told her that this is how the boys are
I know other girls' moms did in my class
in school and as a boy, you're not
girls maybe
still what could they do with that info

@user1306322 Eh, it might have been nothing, she was very smart and very serious in her studies, she may just have enjoyed my company as a friend
But, enough of that, before I start remembering
What anime did you watch then, when you were younger, that you said there was no real "first time"?
Or did you just not realise they were anime, but also thought they were cartoons?

12:44 PM
well you could start with dragonball...

I guess the real first time was Sailor Moon coz duh what else, amirite? (recorded laughing)

Hahahaha
Vogel, Bird? :o

yea R.r
get that a lot...

Haha :p

then I guess Grendaizer or Speedy Racer

12:45 PM
@Vogel612 See my last name in a chat, sorta strange xD
@user1306322 Never heard of either :o

@AsadaShino don't get it...

@user1306322 I think I have seen SOME of it, but not sure if it was on tv
@Vogel612 as in, vogel is my last name, thought it was funny when I saw it in the chat

that BOA Juice movie on VHS

@AsadaShino makes more sense...

@Vogel612 Does it now?

12:46 PM
sure.

uh…

moreover... yes Sailor Moon...

moving on

probably

Pokemon of course!

12:47 PM
oh right, but that was later..

oooh Shaman King!

then CN came with Naruto, YuGiOh and Beyblade..
but for me it really started with TTGL, CodeGeass and Bleach.
and look at me now...

Naruto on CN? Never seen it on CN, lol

following 25-35 manga series simultaneously

Hellsing

12:48 PM
@AsadaShino It's been a while...

yes
one of my favs

I've seen yugioh on a dutch kids channel

on german CN fake that is.

GTO on MTV

sweet

12:49 PM
best anime

and dragonball z was on CN
beyblade also on dutch kids channel

Black Lagoon
shit was scary

That list

@user1306322 lol I found it more amusing....

some channel regularly showed Blood + but I never could watch more than 20 seconds of it

12:50 PM
So many, lol D:

lol I am currently rewatching that..

@Vogel612 yeah, mostly fun, but at times scary

@AsadaShino onebox only works when you put the link alone

I think that was the point
to reduce chat junk

Yeah, I had the link alone before, but I added the text to remove that junk

12:51 PM
meh, what is chat junk anyway
! wallpaper post

it's just #post now

Also I noticed a lot from that link was western cartoons, instead of anime

ohhh
fml every second message of mine is a timeout

lol

Type slower!

12:52 PM
#post

Or longer messages :P

@AsadaShino naaaah...

@Vogel612 But :(
But :(
xD

I think that's it

12:53 PM
Well either way I can type long messages fast enough to confuse the shit out of chat

about 8 titles
some guys on local boards say there was an anime about some bee… never heard of it

8 titles were the ones you started out with? :P

about some bee???
you sure it's not nisemonogatari arc 1

I didn't start with them, I just saw them while flipping channels and it seemed natural that anime exists

12:54 PM
no-no, it was just some bee

isn't that the german kids comic show "Biene Maja"
that's original german IIRC

@Vogel612 Or "Maja de bij" in Dutch

Karel Gott sang the title song, right?

Who knows who sang the German version

Die Biene Maja und ihre Abenteuer

12:56 PM
Yeah, just found it's after a german book

TV Asahi "75−76
german anime… not even once!

An anime adaptation was made into 42 languages, wut

germanization instead of americanization ;)
German hard-rock band singing about America ftw..

Lol
Rammstein?
