10:00 PM
commenters are rude
there needs to be more kindness in the world, not snarky jokes about bank accounts
I'd downvote these comments if I could

If you hang out a bit more on SO, you'll very quickly find yourself wanting to post those comments as well.
That's the state of SO right now.
It's very hard to keep your patience.

this is why I left SO long ago
there is no quick way to provide good guidance provided by the site itself
if there was a 2-3 click way to post a comment like the last one, there would be much less people who wish to spend time posting something like what we see there
I mean wtf are they enjoying being evil like that?
don't they have anything better to do
judging by the number of comments and upvotes that have manifested in just 10 minutes, I suppose they do not

@Hakase sense of superiority

I don't think most SO users enjoy being evil. But they do need to vent their anger.
I'm not defending the comments, but it's what happens when everybody is pissed off.

10:07 PM
It's why I don't ask questions on SO. I'm always terrified that it's something incredibly simple and I'll just get downvoted to oblivion and then yelled at until I'm deaf.

I feel like there should be some site related to SO that helps those people, preventing them from polluting the content, guiding them away somewhere else, I don't know…
I mean that's a psychological problem seen for a lot of users

@Hakase with the volume of traffic SO gets it's hard to do it w/o mass consensus

@Hakase The main argument against it is that there will be no experts on a newbie site. So the site will remain a garbage slum. The newbies that wander over to the expert site will only get bitch-slapped the way they do now.

if anything, I think users should be punished for such comments. You either provide guidance in at least neutral manner, or just let someone else do it instead

I for one, would not participate in an SO for newbie site. Because I'm tired of seeing all the shitty help vampire questions.

10:09 PM
I remember discussing this before

"Help vampire" is not a term I like. Granted, I probably understand it very poorly.

@Hakase They do if it happens enough. But you can't just blindly ban all the users who post such snarky comments because they're also the ones posting the most valuable content to the site. Without them, the site wouldn't run.

In my opinion, you should not help someone or answer questions in the expectation that you get something in return.
I honestly don't care if I answer a question on Arqade and receive no upvotes.

@Mysticial I fell like you're right. It would turn away many helpful posters… unfortunately…

All the valuable users start by posting valuable content that makes the site. But when 95% of the stuff they see is complete shit, they lose their patience and start taking it out on newbies that post the shit. If you ban them for that, you have nobody running the site anymore.

10:13 PM
guess this is one of the necessary evils that has to be let be in order to maintain the steady influx of good content

exactly
So what SE is trying to do now is to filter the questions.
Algorithmically determine what is shit and don't show it to the seasoned users. (unless they want to see it)

@Hakase It's basically the lesser evil between keeping valuable users and scaring away potential valuable users. Most people would (and should) refrain from betting on the what ifs and could bes.

If it works, the valuable users don't get pissed off at all the shit. The shit will get ignored and rot unless someone actually wants to answer it. Anything that gets ignored for long enough gets auto-deleted.
So it makes everyone happy except for the help vampires who will think they are hell-banned.

Aaaaand there are now multiple frame-by-frame analyses of the Force Awakens teaser.
That was fast and completely expected.

what's that?
ah star wars
StackExchange is suffering

10:19 PM
@Hakase I don't know if you've seen my answer here. While it was intended to be a joke, I didn't realize how accurate it turned out to be:

A: Why is Stack Overflow so negative of late?

Mysticial Why is Stack Overflow so negative of late? I hate to pile on, but I couldn't resist summarizing the problem. And I apologize ahead of time for any potentially offensive language that I might use. Basically there are 4 camps of users on Stack Overflow: The "caretakers" who want to keep the...

@ton.yeung movie?

Testing Nodejs is fun

@ton.yeung Why Katy?
Is it limited release?
Oh, what movie?
@ton.yeung On one hand, interested. On the other hand, I pathologically avoid anything Urobuchi touches.
It's like Lion King.
@ton.yeung Urobuchi has a tendency towards grimdark. Something I'm not a big fan of.

@Yuuki what? why?

@Yuuki Grimdark like Warhammer 40k? Cause that's what grimdark is.
The only thing Urobuchi has done that is grimdark is Psycho-Pass, as far as I watched that is.

11:02 PM
@Frosteeze I'm speaking in terms of an anime spectrum. 40K would be angstpitchblack on that scale.

@Yuuki I guess. What examples can you give?

@Frosteeze Akame ga Kill is one.

ok I'm gonna see what that Urobuchi guy does, it seems interesting

@Yuuki I mean, examples of anime that Urobuchi made. He didn't made Akame ga Kill.

Not sure if Urobuchi did Akame ga Kill, but that's the kind of- beat me to it.

11:04 PM
Akame is grimdark, I will agree with that.
lol

Did you mean loli?

yes, probably

@Frosteeze Not sure if the ending to Madoka disqualifies it, but the first half kinda is.

@Yuuki That's just normal drama to me, but I can see where you're coming from.

Saya no Uta is apparently his breakout work that featured this style.

11:07 PM
Lovecraftian isn't necessarily grimdark, but I haven't read the VN so I can't really give an opinion on that.

And he had to be told to hold back repeatedly during the production of Fate/Zero, IIRC.

Heh, the original F/SN is pretty dark too imo, but I'll give you that.

I suspect it had more to do with the amount of gore than the dark atmosphere.

Okay, time to go to work. Hopefully, Black Friday's made everyone tired and wanting to go home to sleep.
Then again, everyone being tired could also push them to want to sit back and watch a movie... Fffffffffff...
