I thought you only use と when there is another subject afterwards

i.e. 友達と僕は。。。 for "my friends and I went", but 僕は友達で。。。 for "I went with my friends"

と can be "and" in that sense, but it also functions as a marker of "with"

@DanHulme If you want to reinforce the "with" there, 「友達といっしょに京都に行きました。」と思います

@snailboat Assuming you meant to write "since I'd first seen it", that works for me (and is more natural), but the emphasis is different.

Yes, it's definitely weird for some reason, but it works compared to "I had already read it for a week" which doesn't seem to work at all.
