I'm curious. What's this pLaTeX? It seems to be a link to pdftex...

1:01 AM
@PauloCereda pTeX is the Japanese version of TeX; it has primitives to provide top to bottom typesetting. Good night.

8:56 AM
@egreg Ah, thanks! :)

10:32 AM
I'm late for the mass, but I wanted to show you guys this photo. We have today a community barbecue to raise funds for the church. They barbecue the whole cow! :)

@PauloCereda Poor cow. :) Have a nice barbecue!

11:23 AM
@PauloCereda Poor old Daisy, \leavevmode...

11:36 AM
@AndrewStacey Unbelievable! Look at comment #4. The guy should learn spelling again before going into venn diagrams.

11:49 AM
@MartinScharrer I hope that's not Kenneth Clark the Historian
Oops, no, he died in 1983
@MartinScharrer These people should be made to write out Wittgenstein's Proposition Seven, 100 times...

\def\propositionseven{Wovon man nicht sprechen kann, darüber muss man schweigen.\par}
\def\five{\propositionseven\propositionseven\propositionseven\propositionseven\propositionseven}
\def\twenty{\five\five\five\five}
\twenty\twenty\twenty\twenty\twenty

@egreg I said write, not typeset! Now you can go back and do it 200 times! (:-P

\def\punishment#1{\count255=0
\loop\ifnum\count255<#1\relax
\propositionseven
\advance\count255 1
\repeat}
\punishment{200}
:)

@egreg OK, so now give me a proof of correctness. I can keep this up all day...

12:04 PM
Wovon man nicht sprechen kann, darüber muss man schweigen.
I don't know how to give proofs of correctness. :)
Self-reference, isn't it?

@egreg I meant something even more difficult: a proof of correctness of your code

12:42 PM
@egreg Thanks! :)
@BrentLongborough The cowbell remains. :)

1:19 PM
@PauloCereda Did you eat all of the cow?
I mean you alone.

2:01 PM
@PauloCereda Great name for a story: ``Ozymandias' Cowbell''. I'm on it...

@MartinScharrer, @StefanKottwitz: Is it appropriate to reopen this one?

Q: Chapter without pagebreak? (In twocolumn document.)

DevSolar Possible Duplicate: Start new chapter on same page I've googled, and I read a lot about how not having a pagebreak before a new chapter is bad style. I've read about how one could use sections instead. I've read about how changing whether a chapter begins on a new page or not within a ...

@lockstep I think so, after the edit.

4:30 PM
@lockstep I reopened it.

@StefanKottwitz Thanks. I'm writing an answer right now.

3 hours later…
7:17 PM
@egreg Unfortunately, I had to work. :) I think I just tasted a bit of the barbecue. It's funny, in that particular case of the barbecue, the meat tastes exactly the same, no matter of what "part" you eat. I think it's because of the high temperature the cow is cooked.
What have I missed today? :)

8:04 PM
@PauloCereda I guess that's a good summary of what you have missed.

8:22 PM
@PauloCereda A quiet Sunday. You can read above a very uninteresting joke between me and Brent about Wittgenstein's Proposition Seven. But one minute ago I answered a question that Martin was unable to. :)

8:39 PM
Yes, 51051!

8:52 PM
@MartinScharrer That's not palindromic. :)

9:09 PM
@egreg Ah how nice! Who was Wittgenstein, BTW? :)
Friends, I've been thinking about this question:

Q: Which are the advantages of TikZ over GeoGebra?

N3buchadnezzarNow I have been using GeoGebra for a considerable amount of time and therefore I am rather experienced using it. Creating graphs, plots and geometric figures can be done in a matter of minutes. Often less. And most of the time goes to outputting the "perfect" look. Now trying to make the same im...

@PauloCereda Cue link to Monty Python sketch ...

@AndrewStacey Ah, he was a philosopher! :)

@PauloCereda Must say, I don't like it all that much. I'm generally ill-disposed to "Advantanges vs Disadvantages" questions as they are too subjective, and it's very hard to be specific enough to be actually helpful.

@AndrewStacey Agreed. Besides, it doesn't sound to me as a fair comparison anyway.

@PauloCereda The TiKZ code produced by GeoGebra is awful.
I've used it for some geometric drawings and it's more time to tidy it than to draw the picture.

9:17 PM
@egreg I'll take a look. :)
(Note to self: think about writing YATDT. Yet Another TikZ Drawing Tool.)

A: Discussion about "Contest: Show Off Your LaTeX Skillz"

Christian LindigCan we have an update once in a while about the current number of submissions? I am really curious already. If so, where would it be posted?

I'm curious too!
I know at least two submissions were made: me and cmhughes. :)

2
@AndrewStacey: Nice question about sub-pictures with TikZ!

Cool! :)

I might add a bounty to that.

@MartinScharrer Editing the question say once a day would keep it on top of the list; maybe just to tell how many submission there are currently

Did someone reject the anonymous edit on the hyphenation question? I suspect it was the OP but not correctly logged in.

9:29 PM
@egreg Oh, the "2" was my count-down, not an answer to @Paulo's question. Sorry!

@AlanMunn I saw it, but simply declined to decide.

@MartinScharrer Oh! :)

@MartinScharrer By the way: does the famous badge counts the number of rep cap limits or just going over 200?

We will have a Legenday Badge this week!

@egreg At start I thought the first, but it is apparently the second
@PauloCereda: Anyway, there are really two submissions at the moment! So, coincidently, I was right.

9:31 PM
@MartinScharrer We'll see in a few days, then. -21 in this case.

rep cap was reached via rep from upvotes *only* on X days
earned at least 200 reputation on Y days
AFAIK it's the Y value.
While X would make more sense.

@AlanMunn I rejected it, and stated that "such an edit should be done by the OP with his/her registered account".

But I got the Epic badge with Y=50 and X<50
@lockstep Good, that's the right way!

@lockstep Oh. How do you make the comment?

9:35 PM
@AlanMunn When you reject an edit, there's a selection of "reasons for rejecting", including the possibility to write a custom one.

my post was meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/85363/…, where I only got the above link and some comments.

@lockstep Ok. Good to know. Thanks.

Now that I hit the reputation cap for today, several obscure answers of mine receive additional upvotes. 17 upvotes without rep gain so far ... this must be like @egreg feels all the time. ;-)

@MartinScharrer So it's hitting rep cap, not getting 200 rep.
@lockstep Today 45 votes. :)

HAVING SUM(targetrepchange) >= 200)
seems to make it 200rep

9:45 PM
@egreg The 2010-05-09 entry of the "Recent Feature Changes" post states: "Reputation report improved, now you can check rep-cap status from purely upvotes (reached) and upvotes + accepts (exceeded). Note that bounties are not included on any of that. And Epic/Legendary badges calculation based on* exceeded*."

@lockstep The link in that entry is dead! :-(
They should really makes these things much more clear.
@egreg, @lockstep: See also meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/67397/…
"Reputation source can be any vote type, upvotes, accepted answers, bounties...any net increase from votes (not association) totaling >= 200."

@MartinScharrer @egreg Yep, that settles it. So both of you will be "Legendary" soon.

@lockstep Well, I don't trust that thread fully, but we will see.

@MartinScharrer IIRC, even the description of the "Epic" and "Legendary" Badges was changed from "hit reputation cap X times" to "earned at least 200 reputation X times" some time ago.

We should create an independent TeX.sx committee to check our data integrity against SO. Those CHAOS guys are behind this plot.

9:55 PM
@lockstep Ah, very good point!

@lockstep So it should be -21, barring incidents. :)

@egreg You mean worldwide Internet failure?

@MartinScharrer (slow motion) noooooooooooooooo!

@MartinScharrer Unexpected drops in rep total, for example.

@egreg One answer of yours unaccepted, and your reputation for this day dropping from 205 to 190. :-(

10:02 PM
@lockstep That's the thing that "hitting the rep cap" would make more sense here, i.e. really loosing rep because of the cap!

@MartinScharrer I should add that this can only happen for "older" accepts; the newer ones should cause -15 rep on the day the answer was unaccepted.

10:27 PM
@MartinScharrer: Congratulations -- you're "Legendary"!
6
And the first tex.sx user with 4 gold badges. :-)

@lockstep WOW IT'S TEH TRUTH!
@MartinScharrer Congrats!!!!1ONE
Go tell it on teh mountain, over teh hills and everywhere! Go tell it on teh mountain that Martin is Legendary!

WOW!!!
Congratulations to our Legendary member.

Congratulations!

10:42 PM
We should barbecue another cow. :)

10:56 PM
@PauloCereda Let's have another party!

@egreg Yay!

11:40 PM
@MartinScharrer: congratulations man! :)

There's a band playing in the square near my house. They are now playing "Another brick in the wall part II". sigh as if Pink Floyd had only that song. :(

@PauloCereda: Give the people what they want

@wh1t3 True. :)

That is, most people don't want a band to play obscure Pink Floyd songs they never heard
hmmm, sleepy times. Good night fellas :)

Good night @wh1t3! :)

11:57 PM
@PauloCereda How many masses today?

@egreg Just one. :) We are a small community.

@PauloCereda No litanies?
