Q: Is it more important to grow a beard, or to avoid resembling non-muslims?

goldPseudoIt is well-established in the sunnah that the prophet encouraged his followers to keep their beards long, but trim their moustaches. It is also well-established in the sunnah that the prophet discouraged his followers from doing anything to resemble non-muslims. It can even be said that the two...

enjoy.
and now i go back to answering that question i was working on.

Q: Can i say farz/fard prayer befoer Sunnah (when needed)

Mohammad Yaseenالسلام و علیکم As as example consider Zuhr/Duhr prayer in which we have 4 Confirmed Sunnah 4 Farz/Farz 2 Confirmed Sunnah 2 Nafil Suppose when i enter Masjid / Mosque i find that the Jama'at is in progress. Should i join the Jama'at or offer Confirmed Sunnah first? Or can i offer Sunnah AFT...

:)

good answer to the farz question, but the first sentence should probably be removed.
it's not really necessary, and there may be downvotes just for being "rude" (even if the intent was pure).

I removed it
@goldPseudo my answer to your question is to follow both
keep the beards and trim the mustaches , but Muslims also wear things like the kufi or Amama which show s that you are Muslim
Asalamu wa alaikum @MohammadYaseen

2:47 AM
i tend to just grow my moustache longer. keep it trimmed, but it's long enough that i shouldn't be mistaken for a hutterite.
this is an argument i had with a friend of mine who was trying to convince me to shave off the moustache completely, or trim it down very short.
but i think it's a perfectly valid question for the site, so i posted it.

it is good
@MohammadYaseen what I mean by add on to that is ((meaning to add extra salat to that, Tatawu' prayer which is the same as nafil prayers, so just make extra nafil prayer.)

@Al Ummat و علیکم السلام

@MohammadYaseen do you understand?

@Al Ummat So, what i gather from your answer is if a sunnah prayer which was supposed to be offered before fard is missed then i can leave it and add nafil to it

if you want, sunnah isn't a sin if you miss it, not like if you miss a fardh
but you just miss out on the benefit of the sunnah

2:57 AM
@Al Ummat OK now i understand.

Alhamdulillah
but do not think that I am trying to said to not make sunnah, it is essential to make the sunnah to, so understand this.

yes i do.

Good
so how are you doing today?

I am struggling with computer virus :). Do you speak Arabic?

yes
اي

3:01 AM
I am learning Arabic, I mean i can read and even understand some of it .

Alhadulillah good, can you read the Qur'an?

is forum.islam.com a StackExchange site?

no it is seperate

Yes i can! i remember since i was 7
My native language is Written in Persio-Arabic script. many alphabets are same.

hmm..

3:11 AM
@Al Ummat Are you a scholar or student?
انت عالم و طالب؟

No I am not a scholar, I am just a student and teacher, everyone is a student in some way

@Al Ummat Student of religious studies?

@MohammadYaseen انا طالب و معلم

كالب? what does this mean?

@MohammadYaseen yes

3:15 AM
Could you tell me some website i can use for learning Arabic? and also is the current spoken arabic and that used in Qur'an differ in grammar?

@MohammadYaseen sorry it is a typo

modern standard arabic is the closest to qur'anic arabic you'll get that's still spoken.

@MohammadYaseen madinaharabic.com and madinaharabic.net
@MohammadYaseen no the grammar does not differ it maybe just how it is spoken

@Al Ummat Thanks, a native speaker know the best about his language.

@MohammadYaseen yes and no

3:19 AM
@Al Ummat I'll try to learn Arabic, and may be Persian too.

@MohammadYaseen Insha'Allah

@Al Ummat i know why that 'No' is correct ;)

good

@Al Ummat i'll have to set my PC up , so i'll have to log out. Good talking with you!

@MohammadYaseen salaam wa alaikum, good to talk with you to :)
so how is that question coming for you @goldPseudo

3:32 AM
it's coming. i'm trying to work 4:79 into it now, without making it seem like i'm blaming him personally for everything that's gone wrong in his life.
or maybe 4:78

I would suggest to you to use both, they kind of back each other up

they do, but i don't want to clutter the answer too much.
i feel he won't take it as well if i just throw scripture at him. he's looking for wisdom and experience, not quotes.
that's part of what makes answering the question so difficult.

perhaps than you should quote Ayah 78 and summarize 79 with your understanding of the Ayah with your wisdom and experience?

i'm still debating whether i want to include 5:101-102
i could probably get away with just summarizing them, with a link to the ayat, rather than quoting them directly.

well I may try to help, but you are the one that can win that debate

3:45 AM
insha'allah.

Isha'Allah

3:57 AM

is that a quote? it i great

i almost have to work that one in. it's just too perfect.

it is great use it

seven hours. this is why i don't post very often.

Is it just me or is the arabic on this site very small to read?

i have trouble reading the arabic in chat without zooming.
the stuff written in questions and answers is small, but legible.
i'm mostly just used to reading arabic on sites where they use giant fonts. :)

In questions and answers, the font size can be adjusted. But in chat, the size cannot be adjusted. Maybe we should direct this to meta and see what the SE team can do about it?

7:42 AM
i just use ctrl-+ on my browser to zoom.
(firefox)

that works, but it makes the whole stuff zoom and kind of gets ugly. Maybe we can ask to put a Loupe tool on here. lol

3 hours later…
10:26 AM
I've come up with a small solution to the fonts issue ... here it is : meta.islam.stackexchange.com/a/143/123

A: The arabic font is too small to read

Power-InsideIn Question and Answer, we can have them to a more legible format by applying some styling on the fonts as below; which is the one that looks good? ستاق اكثجىنج (Default size, hard to read) ستاق اكثجىنج (Same size, bold but readable?) ستاق اكثجىنج (Same size, italic and readable comparitively...

@AlUmmat yeah i do ... i think every1 does
@AlUmmat i think changing the font completely will only do the trick... nothing else

@Ashu well we could always request that users make the Arabic readable, or we can request a feature which will change the font automatically to a certain font

@AlUmmat yup thats what i meant...

1:13 PM
@Ashu which one?

@AlUmmat what do u mean?

well i believe you where referring to users making it more readable, but do you think it would work better if there was a feature which changes the font automatically

Q: Is suicide bombing allowed

Aboobacker MkI learned that suicide is haram in islam . But recently I met a person who arguied that suicide bombing is allowed if it necessory? Is it true? Please answer with proof

2
Q: What does Islam think about suicide?

yasar11732How does Islam as a religion, think about suicide? Is it allowed or prohibited? What sources can you show from Qur'an and Hadith that is related to suicide.

1:44 PM
yes its duplicate. @AlUmmat I voted to close it

@PowerInside suicide & suicide bombing is differnt, isnt it?

@Ashu Different, yes, but I think the second question already answered that suicide is haram hence suicide bombing is.

well so be it
im CV it

should I answer it

Go ahead, @AlUmmat. Personally, suicide bombing to me is the weakest form of struggle. I absolutely am against it

1:49 PM
its your choice but it is not needed..

what is the Ayah that says t who ever kills someone than it is like the whole of humanity is killed

@AlUmmat 5:32 ?

@PowerInside how do you remeber al this!!?

@Ashu Sheikh Google ;)

@PowerInside hehe nice one.. well what did you search then?

1:53 PM
just 10+ years of googling experience.. I just enter a few keywords till I find it. Thats all.. @Ashu

well i answered it , but it is not needed, it is just there to benefit those who want to ask the same duplicate question :)
@PowerInside I find it better to understand and keep stuff in memory
what would you do if google got shut down?

@AlUmmat Yes, I know, I learn through it hopefully, but I'm lazy. :/

@AlUmmat That is impossible & well ther are other ones too :)

@Ashu what is impossible?

@Ashu It is not impossible.. You can memorize the whole Quran and roughly its meaning. Only if you are determined enough

1:56 PM
@PowerInside i find it easier to remember what the first Muslims used to do

well i meant google shutting down is impossible

@Ashu You can never be too sure..
@AlUmmat first muslims?

@PowerInside The Sahaba and Tabe'een

anybbody has any idea of an online quran with tajweed

@Ashu what d you mean?

2:08 PM
@Ashu You mean Quran along with hints here and there for learning tajweed?

@PowerInside yes i found one

I am no w having doubt that this question is duplicate
Assalamu alaikum ,this question is not about general suicide . My question is is there any specific rule in islam which allows suicide bombing even when suicide bombing is haram . Sorry if question was not clear :) — Aboobacker Mk 2 mins ago

@AlUmmat am here

@tachyons wa alaikum salaam, good

2:16 PM
@Ashu Glad to meet u here :-)

@tachyons Wa alaikumusalam!

@tachyons now you said that your friends teacher told him such a thing, do you know the words that the teacher used?

@tachyons im glad too

@AlUmmat He is not my friend , I met him accidentially from an islamic group in nimbuzz

@tachyons sorry
@tachyons what did he tell you?

2:20 PM
He said that he is from kashmir
@AlUmmat He said that suicide bombing is allowed

@tachyons did he give proof? any proof?

and his argument was holy wars in islam

@tachyons Suicide bombing clearly involves killing self with no full certainty that the enemy is compromised; also consider the casualities it can cause. It is nothing but a bidah for holy wars if ever..

@tachyons this is not a good proof, you do not do suicide bombing not even in a war, ina war you fight with honor. If you are killed than Insha'Allah for Allah's sake.

when I said it will kill innocent people ,he said that if you are driving a vehicle it may it some people and causes to death , So can you say that driving is haram

2:25 PM
@tachyons would you drive like a lunatic?

@tachyons The probability of death in suicide bombing is 100% (hence its name!). Not comparable to driving!!

@PowerInside yes, and it is forbidden to kill innocent people

Suicide Bombings have been refuted by Many scholars with evidences from Qur'an - http://www.authentictranslations.com/trans-pub/ae_saf_10.pdf
http://www.authentictranslations.com/trans-pub/ae_amau_3.pdf

I know his arguments are stupid , i posted here for verifying it :-)

In a car, if you do not driving like a crazy man than Insha'Allah you wont kill any one r hurt, having car is a blessing from Allah. Driving has nothing to do with suicide bombing which kills your self and others, you are here committing two sins.

2:27 PM
@Ershad Very good, brother! Nice find.

And do not kill yourselves.
[Sūrah al-Nisā’, 4:29]

@AlUmmat @Ashu I think we all have made it clear enough it is haram. Now let us not push onto this topic and stress @tachyons :)

@PowerInside what stress tachyons?

one last article muttaqun.com/suicide.html

@AlUmmat I meant not to give him anxiety lol

2:30 PM
@PowerInside oh good. :)

so don't close it as duplicate , there is atleast some people thinks it is halal

@tachyons yes I am now doubting that it is a duplicate

@tachyons Closing is not same as deleting.. it only means no more answers can be posted to it. I think closing is fine. All comments regarding this can be directed to the referenced "duplicate question'
@tachyons Are you from kerala? :)

A: Is suicide bombing allowed

Ahmadiif you ask this question from wahhabis they will say yes. this question is highly related to Wahhabism and learning about Wahhabism will be best explain. there is no animosity between the Sunni and the Shi'ites. they are united and talking peacefully to solve disagreements. problem is wahhabism...

this answer is hatred
Ridiculous

i suggested some edits to the suicide bombing question to clean it up a bit.

answer is bad

@Ershad lol tl;dr

i feel that none of the answers are good, since they seem to be answering the wrong question.

2:51 PM
@goldPseudo what do you mean?

@PowerInside lol

"Is suicide haram" is asked in the linked question.
The answers written by @Ashu and @AlUmmat would fit in perfectly on that question.
But this question is explicitly asking for the arguments for suicide bombing.

@goldPseudo we all are against it
no one for

Q: what can we do for avoiding sect topics in our site?

Aboobacker MkAs you know this stackexchange site ,not an islamic site or a discussion forum . so we should avoid sect topics from this site immediately .suggest your opinion about this issue ?

please edit & comment on this topic

there are clearly evidences and arguments for suicide bombing (no matter how weak they are), otherwise suicide bombing wouldn't really be such a thing. those are what the questioner is looking for.
a good answer would bring up these arguments, even if only to point out how weak they are.
and link to (and maybe summarize) the original "Is suicide haram" question to explain why suicide is haram.

2:56 PM
@goldPseudo suicide bombing is such a thing because of media...

@tachyons what do you mean this is not a islamic site?

@AlUmmat I guess he meant a 'simple web portal' or equivalent

as a Q&A site, having all the "Is Suicide Haram" arguments concentrated on one question is better for all. That way if anyone links to it, they'll get all the information in one page instead of having to search around for all the related questions.

@goldPseudo good idea

If all the answers to the suicide bombing question are the same answers you'd get for the suicide question, then it should be closed as duplicate.
But as we've agreed, the question is fundamentally different. Even if nobody agrees with the premise it suggests, it is a valid question in it's own right, and deserving of it's own answers.
(at least that's how i see it. it might be worth bringing up on meta.)

3:00 PM
@AlUmmat because this site controlled by stackexchange team like other sites like stackoverflow ,superuser etc ,

@tachyons okay, but this is a Islamic community
and I think we encourage different answers of different sects and opinions

@AlUmmat but i mean answer like this islam.stackexchange.com/a/527/119

@tachyons we should forbid the answers that are of hatred on this site.

agreed. answers that are full of hatred and do little more than attack are not welcome.

@AlUmmat and answers that show excessive bias. and low quality ones.

3:06 PM
low quality answers can be downvoted. answers full of hatred should probably be flagged and deleted.

do this for such answers

@Ershad I like your edits to the tag wikis congratulations keep up the good work :)

A: Is it sin to categorize yourself into a particular sect?

AhmadiNo. it is not a sin. if you want answer from Quran first we should know what is the Arabic word for sect in Quran. ashia shiite shi'te shii'te shīʿah shi'ite shi'ites shias all are the same. all are for arabic word شيعه which means follower [of some one]/ sect. but in shia/sunni debates shia m...

welcome back @PowerInside

Assalamualaikum everyone

wa alaikum salaam

Questions about zakat.. im not very familiar with them.. Ramadan is around the corner and It will be cool if they could be answered nicely.

4:08 PM
Yes I am going to try to answer them I am researching them. What I like about Q&A sites is if you do not know the answer to a question than you can research it and learn your self. Has there been any questions about Ramadan?

not really. islam.stackexchange.com/questions/4/… is about fasting in general, but that's the closest i've seen.

ok

i expect someone will come out with the old classic "Does Ramadan only start when the moon is sighted locally, or does any sighting in the world count?" eventually.

@AlUmmat I could research too, but im at ground zero on this one. Could take a while for me

@PowerInside All question is for all users:)

4:12 PM
i tend towards the "keep it simple, and just pay whichever sound interpretation would be greater; the excess would be sadaqah" philosophy myself, which isn't very helpful for answering in this case.

:)

more accurately, i tend towards the "zakat is whatever the authorized zakat collector says it is (i.e., obey those in authority over you)," but if there's no authorized zakat collector to deal with it's moot.

is the badge "talkative" a compliment? I have a bad feeling about it.

This is a link from the question and this is a link I dug up myself
@Ershad Well whatever it is I do not want to get it , I do not like being called talkative

too late, you already got it.

4:17 PM
Neither me. Seems like you already have it

yes I jsut saw that right as I posted the message :(

"Posted 10 messages, with 1 or more starred, in chat. "

Maybe it is a compliment

@Ershad Calm down, its just a badge and it doesn't mean you talked a lot. Just got starred

badges in general are.
they tend to be awarded to people who do things the "Stack Exchange" way.

4:18 PM
thanks guys for all the congratulations
I didn't even realize lol

@PowerInside That is comforting :) thanks ..lol

@ashes999 you do know that you are this room's owner, right?

Wa'alikum as-salaam @Ershad @AlUmmat thanks :)
@AlUmmat yes I saw a ping about that
@PowerInside lol, they have an "established user" badge?
I think you're mistaken..I have no silver badges on this site
Although admittedly, it's more of a responsibility thing than a "yay" moment, I feel more responsible for making sure the site "makes it" through whatever I can do

@ashes999 You are right.. I just checked, there isn't an established user badge over here. I thought badges were the same all around StackExchange Network.

@ashes999 agree :) We're with you

4:39 PM
we've got 24 avid users now, and still getting good numbers across the board.

Alhamdulilah
@goldPseudo it's like your the reporter :)

what about the visit? 1,500 visits per day is good, 500 visits per day needs some work. We get about 174. Isn't that poor?

i wouldn't worry about that.
we're still in private beta.
the numbers will go up when we go public, God willing.

@Ershad we should worry about that when the public beta comes

Okay, Insha Allah.

4:41 PM
I got to go everyone.. tomorrow I'll be having my last practical exam on civil engineering.. I hope it turns out smoothly. Keep me in your prayers.

@PowerInside Sure brother. All the best.

@PowerInside Insha'Allah you will do good on the exam we will pray for you, salam wa alaikum

i think we're getting enough "interesting" questions to attract an expert-tier audience.

@goldPseudo i would agree

at least to start. we'll see what we get when the public shows up.
God willing, we won't be drowned in trolls.

4:44 PM
It's funny, I still do not know what trolls mean

questions and answers that are asked just to be offensive.
"Do Muslims like Uzi's or ak47's?"

thank you I will keep that in mind

Wow, I just realized that. that we are in private beta means the world doesn't watch us.
most of them

"What is the best type of velcro for strapping bombs to my chest?"

Yeah, a troll once asked me "Is it weird to be a Muslim and still love Israel?"

4:45 PM
"My neighbor said a mean thing to me yesterday. Should I stone him, or is beheading sufficient?"
(i would be a very annoying troll if i used my powers for evil, instead of good.)

@goldPseudo lol

:)

I am gonna get back to editing tags. It is very peaceful.
I mean wiki

I am editing some tags too, and I totally understand what you mean by peaceful :)

i may have to take a break from writing anything. yesterday burnt me out.

4:49 PM
:)

two whole posts, and a tag wiki, in one day. exhausting.

:)

I have a doubt. I have couple of questions and I know the answers to them. However they are interesting questions in my opinion and will help new muslims or muslims thinking to revert. But should I ask them?

@Ershad what are they?

i think we should really embrace the "answer your own question" philosophy that the SE crew keep espousing.

4:51 PM
Like "Should a new revert muslim change is name?"
*his
/her

many other SE sites disdain it for being rep-whoring, but we should be better than that. "Be different from the non-muslims." :)

@goldPseudo Lol

@Ershad well I think it is a good one, but it is only you that can judge the excellence of your question

How do I check if a question is duplicate or not? I mean before I ask

searching.

4:54 PM
Site search gives me external results too

when you type the question, it'll usually bring up suggested "duplicates" on-site.
(which is basically just a text search on the title of the question itself).

Oh.. I never asked one.. that's why. Let me try

if it's a duplicate, it's not the end of the world. duplicates can still be useful, even if they get closed.

Can I ask two questions at the same time.. i mean they are related
two or more

in a single post?

4:55 PM
multiple questions in the same post is discouraged. exactly how discouraged really depends on how closely related the questions are.
when in doubt, split it up.
it mostly depends on whether the answers would be the same for both questions. if each question would have it's own best answer, better to split them up and let the best answers for each get accepted, rather than waiting for one answer to best-answer both questions at once.

Yup. Okay here is my question . "Is circumcision obligatory in Islam for both genders? Is it obligatory for a new revert muslim to do circumcision ?"
What do you think?

i would call them separate questions.

Okay. Here is another. "What is the islamic ruling regarding tattoos? If a revert muslim has a permanent tattoo, is it obligatory for him to remove it?"

separate question is wise I would agree with goldPseudo
