i'm also a bit leery about the implication that everything else is "Shura done wrong," which isn't really my intent.
but i do think the shura=crowdsourcing angle is a strong angle to follow.
and what else would you call asking the community, getting multiple answers, getting the community to vote on those answers, and then arriving at a decision?
but also, shura means coming up with a decision that's binding on a community, it implies that those who are doing are in positions of some authority. all this is fine when the scope of their authority or decision is well-defined but here it's "Islam"
which kind of seems a little too close to the station of the mujtahideen
i reckon we may want a disclaimer (a la judaism.SE) stating that any answers posted are not necessarily made by a licensed scholar, and should not be treated as binding.
