Oh and those stupid indie-ish rage games like SMB, Super Hexagon, etc.
They drive me mad but I enjoy them too much

haha
yeah, SMB/VVVVVV/super hexagon are games that I think are neat (and usually pretty) but I'm trash at them. I respect anybody who got really good at them, though

KoA
I used to be heaps good at super hexagon but I'm very out of practice
Hyper Hexagonest is intense and I love it

I own SH, but I played it for like 30 seconds before being like "ok fuck this"
I will say that that's my least favorite out of those three that I mentioned, since it... doesn't really change much over time (unless I'm missing something)

@KoA same here
i still listen to the soundtrack nearly everyday; i love it

KoA
It changes in difficulty every 10 seconds for the first minute
Then every 60 seconds (or something like that?)

2:13 PM
right, but it's pretty much just "ok now it's faster"

KoA
It's really not too bad once you learn the patterns

right?

KoA
It's a reflex thing mostly

right
and that kind of thing is totally fine, just not really my thing if there's no variation in the objective

the thing I like about it is that you have to get into a sort of intense focus
sort of meditative in a way

KoA
2:15 PM
Yea
'Flow' is the proper term for it I think

from what i've read, flow is a frequently misunderstood term

KoA
it's like Veni Vidi Vici in VVVVVV - it took me a solid like, 2 hours to get it the first time

but i also think it's poorly named

yeah
which one is veni vidi vici?
I guess an exception to what I said above might be something like Tetris

KoA
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flow_(psychology) This describes what I feel when doing well at SH so I just went off that
@question_asker, it's the stupid multiple screen trinket with only one jump

2:18 PM
i think they misuse the term in game design

ah! yeah. that one.

i actually have that csiksentmihaliy book
i should read it :P

KoA
fancy
I've started reading 'An Actor Prepares' by Stanislavsky but I keep not having time
#struggle

heh
i don't think i've ever heard someone say "i don't really like tetris"

<- relevant

2:21 PM
heh
are the faded out avatars in the room's user list just people who have been idle?

KoA
I think so

i'm sorry for your loss

I don't know why but for some reason I associate Csiksentmihaly's name with quackery
(I am NOT magyarphobic, I assure you)

because of his work or because of the way his name sounds

2:32 PM
@question_asker oh really? name your five favorite Liszt pieces

I think it's partially because "positive psychology" gets reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeal close to magical thinking sometimes
oh uh
fumbles for his Lis z t
polo...naise?

a lot of psychology is pretty close to magical thinking, it seems
although, yeah, i agree with you on that bit

I mean. When I say 'magical thinking' I specifically mean this "hmm seems like think you have problems, but the only problem I see is you not smiling enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

is there a name for that fallacy where thinking that if a system is broken, then doing anything at all different must be better
to be fair, that sentence made me smile (although only in snark)
bbl

(psychology, I'd say, is generally fairly sound. though people reference freud a lot more than is necessary given his irrelevance in 2016)
maybe I should just make a macro that posts READ SOME WITTGENSTEIN YOU CLOWN to anybody trying to make a hard-and-fast rule about question broadness.

Q: A seriously confuse recipe - or is it?

fffred Mix one teaspoon of the first ingredient with one of the second ingredient in a bowl. In another bowl, repeat the operation, adding one more teaspoon of the second ingredient. Repeat again until you run out of bowls. Pour the mixtures in separate plates and arrange by order of weight. ...

I'm curious about this recipe puzzle

me too
I like that one a lot
what I don't like... is any of those answers
if it turns out that the answer to that puzzle is anything like "the universe" or whatever, I'm changing my vote on it
I think we could never have another puzzle where the solution or any step in decryption had anything to do with the periodic table or chemistry or physics and we would still have way too many of those puzzles

I don't think it ease some chemistry
i think it is way more lateral thinking
I like the math part about rational numbers, but it can't be that

3:26 PM
I hope it's more lateral thinking, yeah

3:38 PM
god
the "skeptics" stackexchange might be even funnier than the "workplace" stackexchange
"I'll try and take a stab at this, though I don't know if I have found enough non-circumstantial evidence to prove my conclusion. However, I also doubt that anyone without knowing Arabic or French and having access to select universities around the world could come up with more, as those are the only translations of Ibn Fadi's book I could find."
it's almost like... you probably shouldn't attempt a task that a person who knows two languages would be infinitely better equipped to handle

4:00 PM
lol oh boy a new image steganography puzzle, what joy is mine

4:38 PM
@question_asker Where? I don't see it.

5:01 PM
@question_asker no stenography this time ;)

@question_asker Its a black box.....right?

Q: Locate the hacker: Part 2

cbronsonThis is a continuation of Locate the hacker. Be sure to read through part 1 and the accepted answer first so you can get an idea of how to solve this. There are no tricks here. There’s no breaking of the “fourth wall”, no corrupt partners, no hacking of emails or falsified information. You ar...

I'm thinking that the
F T2 R F2
F T2 F2 TFT
F T2 FT F2 T
F T2 F T3 F
Could be Rubiks Cube instructions.

That one you linked, q_a
There's not even a question there.
The ENTIRE puzzle is just: "Here's an image. Figure it out."
If so, Chris, then I'm not even going to attempt that part, because it doesn't mean anything to me =D

Face, Top 2, Right, Face 2 -- Turn the appropriate slice clockwise x times.
I would assume you start from the solved cube, and see what the pattern is.

5:13 PM
Yeah, but it doesn't mean anything without a rubik's cube and a certain setup to the cube.
I mean - which side is the "top" of a cube?

You're the boss. You decide. But once you decide, it's stuck.

Yeah, that's why I don't mess with rubic's cubes :P

5:31 PM
Lol I can't do a Rubics cube

Me either
My favorite part about when my train goes express is that all that means is it doesn't stop at a number of stops. It slows to a crawl to make up for the convenience of not stopping

2 hours later…

7:09 PM
left side is hex in morse code, as ascii it says SQUARES HAVE BIN ARGU?NG. WHY (? is something I can't read)

Hex in morse code?
I see it.
I think

i got confused with the .---.
also, the "news" in "read the news" is most likely north east west south, so the cardinal directions seem pretty important in this puzzle

7:27 PM
yeah, the north clue affects the east clue is some form. (east being the right)

hex to ascii of the histogram on the right is "CHAR THE WE"

7:55 PM
aah, group working... ;) I was curious about the errors in morse codes too

east goes noon to nine could be interpreted as east goes north to west

counterclockwise

i still have no idea on where to go with the south part though. it has 64 hex values
nvm...
The Game is a mental game where the objective is to avoid thinking about The Game itself. Thinking about The Game constitutes a loss, which must be announced each time it occurs. It is impossible to win most versions of The Game. Depending on the variation of The Game, the whole world, or all those aware of the game, are playing it all the time. Tactics have been developed to increase the number of people aware of The Game and thereby increase the number of losses. Though the origins of The Game are unknown, a game featuring ironic processing was played by Leo Tolstoy in 1840. == Gameplay == There...
I've lost
out to lunch. good luck with the puzzle!

8:25 PM
The morse .---. = ĵ
Don't know if that helps or not
