9:00 PM
You'd have to ask Zhen to be sure.

That would be odd, because GitS is Japanese..

独台is not a Japanese word.

@anon Can't you fit the body into your gravatar?

Well... or at least not one in a common dictionary, I checked since I've never seen the word before.

@Skullpatrol Right. This wasn't denied, either.

9:02 PM
@GraceNote I never said he denied it.

支means branch. As in branch of a chain of shops.

Then I'm still not seeing a point being made

@Skull: I'm not interested in testing how far I can push the envelope on MSE's gravatars. I wanted the pic because of the head anyway.

After that he repeats the kanji for Buddha.
I give up : )

@MattN I suspect that too, since the sequences of symbols you've given don't google.

9:03 PM
@anon ;-)

Or she. It's deviantart, I'd have to tineye to find the artist (or squint for a watermark).

I'll be back later. I must close my laptop now and watch House.

Enjoy. House is fun.
Well, was fun.

@MattN Later

@AsafKaragila It's still better than most TV shows I know.

9:06 PM
@ymar Sad but true.

That was one tasty apple.

@GraceNote What does it take to strip Asaf of his room ownership?

@Skullpatrol A strongly reasoned argument as to "why Asaf is unfit to be an owner" is about the only thing I'd see as a means to have him lose the position short of him giving it up due to lack of activity or wanting to move on to greener pastures.
I don't consider a single remark of only that much to be a strongly reasoned argument for that - something I might chide him on and suggest he not do, but not nearly enough to strip ownership, yeesh.

He made an allegation of me being a troll in front of a moderator

Yes, yes he did.

9:13 PM
Thank you
enough said

Why strip me from ownership of this room? Prepare the firing squad!!

But that's not enough to strip him of his position.

Dictators are not exiled, they are hanged, drawn and quartered. I except no less too!
Skullpatrol, let us quickly review the history of you in this room:
You joined in, were obnoxious and asked senseless questions repeatedly; You left and deleted your account; you returned; you were still obnoxious but some users got used to you; you still asked a lot of irrelevant questions but you no longer repeat them to everyone joining the room (which is the only point of improvement I saw); you left again and then you came back again; and once more. Whenever **relevant** questions like your mathematical education (or general education) were asked you avoided them and acted annoyingly...
In my book, which is made out of 15 years of internet in which I was a troll, trolled and did a lot online: this sort of behavior is highly immature and verging on being a troll. Call me crazy, but I prefer to condone this behavior rather give you praises and support it even more.
2

@GraceNote There is no need to chide him on this, I just wanted your acknowledgement of his behavior, thank you for your attention.

Hi Chaz.

9:19 PM
Howdy

@Asaf: accept =! except. you might want to also look up the definition of "condone." :)
unless you mean tolerate reluctantly..

@anon I'm tired and I am half focused on these exams (which is hard enough as it is, because they are full of nonsense!), cut me some slack.

@Jonas: where were you?

@Ilya MSc diploma ceremony.

@AsafKaragila sure they are, these are Set theory exams. To give a right answer they had to write nonsense
@Jonas: icic. Nice photo :)

9:28 PM
It perturbs me sometimes going back and reading my past answers and seeing the wrong words used, like they're and their.

form and from is quite usual for me
@Asaf: you know, the way Skull behaved in the discussion today is totally different from his usual way. He was much more clear and serious

@Ilya Thanks

@Ilya You mean clearer. Also he couldn't get himself to make a proper point. It took Grace a while to understand what he wants (and even then I'm not sure she understood him completely). If that's his best, I do not envy those who do not ignore him during the everyday.

@AsafKaragila Have a sad life.

shrug

9:38 PM
I can vote to close and reopen! What does that even MEAN?!?!

That you can vote to close and reopen.

I think you're missing my excitement and focusing on the (feigned) ignorance... ;)
With my average of +9 rep/day, it's been a loooooooooong time coming!

user19161
Well @asaf and @skull I think you two need to relax and have a kit kat. I dropped in just to see why grace is here.

@WillHunting Just hanging out with the cool guys is forbidden?

9:52 PM
@Will: kitkat ??? Come on! At least make it a TWIX.

user19161
@AsafKaragila Well, you guys are cool, but I prefer the ELU chat room!

Because you are not cool.

user19161
@TheChaz Never tried that. Hey the chaz sounds familiar...

user19161
@AsafKaragila That is because I am hot.

@WillHunting No, you suck. You suck like a black hole.

9:53 PM
@AsafKaragila ?

@WillHunting What kind of candy vortex do you live in??

user19161
@MattN ?

@TheChaz A black hole.

@Skullpatrol if you thank me, you've got me wrong

user19161
Anyway now both skull and kannapan are back, so the whole family is reunited. Congrats!

9:55 PM
Hi, @TheChaz Are you the person who answered my question on some songs somewhere?

Good night to all mathematicians

Then why are you here, ELU guy?

@Norbert Good night!

user19161
@Norbert Night! Reminds me of Wiener.

Well I can't imagine such a terrible place where there are no TWIX

9:56 PM
Not so talanted
Are there here specialists on homological algebra? A have a quick question

@ymar probably on music.SE...

@TheChaz Yeah, there. Are you?
You are.

Hey all!

Am I.... oh... the same? Yeah. My profiles are linked.

@Norbert Just ask whatever questions you have. If someone can answer they will : )

user19161
9:58 PM
@robjohn Hi!

@robjohn Hi there. Long time no see.

@TheChaz Yes! Thanks for that answer. :)
Hi, robjohn

Anytime!

leo
hi @robjohn

Given family of projective objects which forms inductive system, is it true that their inductive limit is projective?

user19161
9:58 PM
@grace Nice new pic!

Bob John. Howdy.

Since I was too late in answering this question, I tried applying a substitution that I used when doing NURBs at Apple and it produced the answer without actually needing to integrate.
@AsafKaragila How are things?

Grading exams :|
Only 14 more to go!!! :-)

Still?

@WillHunting I saw that you were incognito again ;-)

10:00 PM
I am slow because I am busy on the chat, and because it's boring me.

@AsafKaragila what's boring you?
Ah, the grading

The same mistakes over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over... ...again.

@AsafKaragila I remember grading calculus exams. Once in a while, there was an interesting off-the-wall answer.
@MattN I have been busy. I hope to be around this weekend.

Yeah well, none here.

@leo good day!
@AsafKaragila what kind of exam is this one?

10:04 PM
Write two proofs and one definition.

@AsafKaragila what subject?

Logic and set theory.

leo
I'm bad today

Tim
The one I know who knows Russian just left.

@robjohn Nice : )

10:08 PM
@leo in what way are you bad?

@Tim I know Russian

I offered a bounty of 150 on a question. It expires in two days and there are no comments so far. Do you think it's a good idea to offer a larger bounty then? If keep doing it, I'll run out of reputation quickly, but I definitely want to know the answer to my question.

My advisor gives me a book for my MSc degree :-).

Tim
@Norbert Thanks! Do you download ebooks?

leo
@robjohn in the matrix way :-(

10:11 PM
@Tim which books?

Tim
@JonasTeuwen Congratulations for your degree.

@JonasTeuwen Congratulations.

Oh, I actually got it unofficially several months ago, but today there was a ceremony. But thanks!

Tim
@Norbert Not a particular one now. Because US govt has cracked down the sites I frequented, I have to look around for other sites especially in other languages. What sites do you use?
I was trying to register on this site twirpx.com. But I could not find where to register even with Google translation help. I then sent an email to their admin, and was told I was out of the their IP range they allow. Then I used a proxy of Russia, still not able to.

@Tim twirpix is not good, because you must gain some kind o reputation in order to download something
So forget about this useless site

Tim
10:14 PM
@Norbert I now use bookfi. But often I cannot download a complete file.

Have you tried rutracker
?

@leo Darn, reading that problem, I could answer it right away, but my answer was the same as the accepted one. Oh, well.

Oh hell. One of my student which after the exam thanked me and said it went okay got 9/100. Ouch.

Tim
@Norbert First time heard it from you. Thanks! I Click "Books", and are the books all for entertainment not academic?

user19161
@AsafKaragila You can just correct the mistakes by induction.

10:17 PM
There are academic also

@JonasTeuwen oh, it was today? I didn't know - I would certainly come

@WillHunting Har har har.

@Tim why do you need it?

@Ilya Oh damn!! :-). You can come to my PhD defense ;-).

Tim
@Norbert can one search on that forum for a particular book name?

10:18 PM
@Norbert Of course not. Take $P_1 \to P_2 \twoheadrightarrow C$ such that $C$ is not projective and the cokernel of the map $P_1 \to P_2$. Now let $P_2 = P_3 = P_4 = \cdots$. Then $C \cong \varinjlim P_n$ is not projective.

Which is in... about four years.

Tim
@Ilya Because I don't have enough money to buy books.

user19161
@tim Two great sharing sites I know are 4shared.com and ishare.iask.sina.com.cn. But the latter always asks me to solve a captcha and I get it right but they say I am wrong.
2

This needs jury, executioner, mortician, etc.

user19161
I am thinking if the captcha is wrong because it uses a different keyboard map.

Tim
10:20 PM
@WillHunting Is 4shared.com just like rapidshare? Only hosting files without organization into different categories like a virtual library and without searching function?

(fixed)

@t.b. thanks, I'll try to understand :)

user19161
@Tim I don't use rapidshare so I don't know. But there is plenty of good stuff there, no need to create an account.

Tim
@WillHunting Do you search a book name on that site? Or use google to search on that site?

user19161
@Tim You may use both. Sometimes it appears on one but not the other...

10:23 PM
@Norbert to get this situation just start building a projective resolution of a non-projective $C$ (I should have said that).

Tim
@WillHunting I didn't know I can search on 4shared. Thanks!
@Ilya From what sites do you download ebooks?

user19161
@Tim Look out for pdf and djvu files basically.

Tim
@WillHunting Yeah, I enjoy djvu

user19161
djvu offers the best compression but it takes long to scan into that. I never scanned anything my whole life.

user19161
There were people who even argued for djvu to replace pdf altogether.

Tim
10:25 PM
@WillHunting Me neither. But I have been totally amazed by those ebook creating works done by other people.

user19161
But @tim you can just use the libraries or online notes if you don't want to get any books too.

'Ello @tb.

Tim
@tb Hi t.b.

'Ello Gigili
Hi, Tim.

Tim
@WillHunting Yes, some notes are great. I just recently realized that. Library? Not so much fond of it.

10:27 PM
@TheChaz well, first the attorney general should suggest something :)

user19161
@robjohn Talking of incognito, if anyone knows how to make chrome not save history in non incognito mode please say so.

@WillHunting I don't use Chrome, but I know how to do it in Firefox.

user19161
That is one reason I have stayed away from chrome.

user19161
@robjohn So do I. :-)

@robjohn Hey, robjohn, long time no see!

user19161
10:30 PM
I once suggested to google when I uninstalled it. Apparently many people want this feature but they still don't implement it. I think google is nuts.

@tb Hey there :-) I have been doing work and banging my head on a couple of problems (I was scooped on them both)

user19161
And you know what? I can't delete my youtube account! It seems I must delete my google account to do that!

user19161
And also, you can't not save history in youtube either!

@tb I decided to approach one in a different way to see if that made me feel better :-)

Tim
@WillHunting crazy.
@robjohn 'Ello! Robjohn

user19161
10:32 PM
There might be a way to do these but I tried very very long and searched very very long but no solution.

@robjohn one of the problems? Are those serious problems or just answers here?

@WillHunting You mean in Chrome?
@tb Just answers here.

user19161
@robjohn No I mean the youtube account history not the browser history.

Tim
@tb is 'ello pronunciated as "hello" with silent "h"? Is it Gemean?

user19161
It might depend on when you created the youtube account.

10:33 PM
@WillHunting Ah. Google doesn't want to throw anything away.

Tim
@DidierPiau: 'ello! Didier!

@Tim It's Gigili's trademark greeting so she should be the one to be asked :)

user19161
It's not that I don't want others to see my history, I just like to keep things clean and tidy!

@Tim Hi Tim... how goes?

(but that's how I imagined it would be pronounced).

Tim
10:34 PM
@robjohn Eyesight drops more! Make more typos now than ever!

@robjohn have you posted those answers (or at least the one of them that you approached differently)?

user19161
@tb You know my trademark greeting? But I don't use it in this room.

@t.b. I've checked you example and found some differences to what I meant and what you understand

@Norbert Okay, so what is the question exactly?

@tb I posted the integral I finished this morning. The other problem, I couldn't think of a different enough method.

user19161
10:35 PM
My trademark greeting is...

user19161
Boo!

I've used definition of projective object from Banach homology, where admissible morphism are have right inverse bounded operator

@Norbert The example works just as well, I think. (I know what you're talking about -- Helemskii's definitions)

Yes they are
@t.b. Ok, it seems to be quite a long discussion, I'll try to construct a counterexample.

@Norbert Take an infinite discrete group $G$ and let $P_1 = \ell^1(G)$ and $P_1 \twoheadrightarrow \mathbb{C}$ be the augmentation (summation). Note that $\mathbb{C}$ is not projective because $G$ is infinite. Now let $I$ be the augmentation ideal and resolve it with a projective $P_0 \twoheadrightarrow I$.
This example should work (unless you have further restrictions on the inductive system)

leo
10:41 PM
@robjohn Yes. The problem is that I don't see immediately the bound of the trace of such a magic square

What do you think of my last comment? I think I was a bit too quick on the trigger there and then all the sheep/lemmings followed me. (Not the comment this is linked to, scroll down.)

@leo Well, some magic squares require that the diagonals also sum to the same as the rows and columns. If not, then the limit might be $\frac{n^2+n}{2}+n(n^2-n)$

leo
@robjohn Indeed, but that restriction is not in the problem

user19161
@robjohn Ooh magic squares! I remember the method to make a magic square for odd integers.

I'm not sure the question should've been closed.
So I'm wondering whether it's right to offer to reopen it.

10:47 PM
@WillHunting once you see it, it is hard to forget.

It probably doesn't matter that much.

leo
then in principle there isn't reason to argue that the magic square isn't equivalet to the matrix I have...

Holy cow!
I finished grading the exams.
Now to finish dealing with the excel file...

user19161
@AsafKaragila Congrats. Just remember not to delete the excel file and then empty the trash bin.

@WillHunting Your mother.

10:50 PM
@AsafKaragila No, wait. Can you tell me what to do with this: math.stackexchange.com/questions/120583/…

@MattN I think your comment is the way to go: if OP wants the question to be re-opened, he can leave a comment/ping you and it won't take long to re-open it. if not, it's fine with me to leave it as a duplicate. There was a follow-up questionto Bill's answer that also addresses the question on elimination of induction for statements on all integers. You might want to link to that.

@tb Thanks! I'll post it.

@MattN Stare at it vacuously and sit amazed by how people can infer "No proof exists" from "This is a possible duplicate of ..." :|

Gads! How did it get to be so late?!
It's almost the end of the UTC day. One more hour

user19161
@robjohn You may ask Apple to make a time machine. I want to go back to the past too.

10:53 PM
@robjohn Eight whole more minutes to this day (for me), yay!

@robjohn You were in a cryogenic hibernation for a while. Now it's the future and also time passes faster now.

@AsafKaragila that would explain a lot.

Of course. You should legally change your name to Philip J. Fry too.

@WillHunting Apart from the Time Machine they have for backup?

user19161
Microsoft and Apple should make a time machine. Whoever does first wins.

10:54 PM
@robjohn Thanks for the link. I'm not quite in the mood for reading it now but I will. (I love your integrals :)) Unless you're close to a cap, I'll (most likely) upvote it after having read it

@tb I am nowhere close to a cap :-)

user19161
@robjohn All this time travelling reminds me of the movie The Butterfly Effect. Maybe what has happened is for the best after all no matter how bad it is.

@robjohn I figured, but I wanted to offer the option. Let it be a contribution to a future cap-day :)

@robjohn I am five points from a capper... :-P
And there's an hour until the day is out!

@WillHunting That is the way I figure things.

10:59 PM
@AsafKaragila no, you're not.

@tb :-)

user19161
@tim I saw the question you just posted on ELU! Hahaha.

I can still take on a vote or two, my daily limit is 215 today... :-D

Tim
@WillHunting Haha

@AsafKaragila now let's stay modest... :p

11:00 PM
Hah, whoever upvoted that second countable answer, I already got a badge for it... one vote was removed due to a deletion of a user.

@AsafKaragila no longer

@robjohn beat you to it :)

@tb takes me longer to find an answer of Asaf's that I understand :-)

user19161
@AsafKaragila I did not know answers could be second countable like topological spaces.

@robjohn LOL
You should try that one I posted today with the +17 to it.
It's by that countable ordinals guy.

11:02 PM
@AsafKaragila I found one with 9 votes :-p

@MattN Thanks for doing this, by the way. There's nothing wrong with suggesting a dupe that in the end turns out that isn't. It takes five voters to actually close the question (of course the first one has the highest responsibility but still...).
In case you're unsure you can always make the suggestion here...

Okay. I finished with the physical sheets and exams.
Now I just need to code some average summation and whatnot to the excel file... this calls for a beer.
Mini fridge with beer in the office = pure awesome.

@AsafKaragila excel runs on awesome?

Tim
@AsafKaragila What? Are you using excel?

No. I run on awesome.
@Tim No, not me. But the other folks involved in the course are.
On my home computer I even refuse to install open orifice... err, open office.

11:07 PM
@tb Yes, I know. The problem with this one was that I had only glimpsed at the question and already reached a conclusion instead of thoroughly reading it. Grrr : /
But thanks for the patting on the shoulder.

@MattN mutating back to the fluffy bear. Peeling off my grizzly skin...

@tb : )

@MattN maybe...

@AsafKaragila yeah, I know the feeling. It's exactly what you need after a day of grading exams... (on the other hand, I'd have been surprised if you hadn't had such an installation).

11:11 PM
But he could still be keeping bottles of Arak at his office, no?

Indeed...

Yes, indeed this is what I need.
I could have finished tomorrow, but I want to get uberwasted... :-)

"Uberwasted" : )

@MattN he promised to have green hair in the evening...

I saw the pinned message. : )

"All the snakes that want to stay on Ireland please raise your hand!" HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

I was just about to ask what the occasion was...

@AsafKaragila According to my info, Ireland is not on DST yet, so it is not quite St Patrick's Day there.

It is here!

@AsafKaragila You're UTC+2, but not on DST yet, right?

11:23 PM
Indeed.

It's 1:20 AM

It is.

My laptop is so loud :,(

@MattN Get a new fan already!

@robjohn But then I'm without my laptop for >3 days!

11:25 PM
@MattN Get earplugs! :-)

I have : ) Just not wearing them at the moment.
I think it's bed time here.
What a day...
Good night folks!

THARRR!! SHE BLOWS!
I finished.
No more grading stuff.
Huzzah!
Now to finish my beer and to head home!
I'll shoot some chickens while I'm drinking...
Well. I am going to home. To sleep. So long!

11:47 PM
