Suggestion: Watchmen

The film an adaptation of the eponymous graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

The film is set in the third term of Richard Nixon's presidency, and the Cold War is still on. Watchmen are a group of costumed vigilantes who, each...
@Dragonrage Nah, definitely a good choice. I mean it's probably one of those must watches with how many people have already seen it. I mean I was just at a wedding where they played two songs from this movie.
@Yuuki Interesting, I hadn't thought about it that way. And still, the ending makes sense in the context of the film, especially given where Rorschach's journal ends up, as a sort of a message that the "peace" achieved was a fragile one.
Below is a list of films based on DC Comics characters and properties including its various imprints. It includes serials, live action and animated films, direct-to-video releases, television films, fan-made films, and documentary films.

In October 2014, Warner Bros. announced The Flash for release on March 23, 2018, and a sequel to Justice League on June 14, 2019; both were subsequently delayed to unknown release dates. Also in development are, Justice League Dark, The Batman, a film based on the comic series Gotham City Sirens, sequels to Man of Steel and Suicide Squad...
@Gallifreyan One common thread I've seen is that he has this tendency to try to make things grimmer without understanding the implications of those changes. Like the culmination of Ozymandias's plans. For someone so smart, I don't see how he thinks the bomb will unite humanity.
@Yuuki the implication is that they won't, which is the fault in his plan. And Snyder explained that the whole squid thinkg wouldn't fit into the film even if it was 3.5 hours.
Ozymandias believes that he's averted disaster forever and saved humanity forever. He needs to believe this to soothe his conscience over the millions that he's killed. The kicker is this peace he's created won't last because nothing is forever.
Ozymandias needs to be sure that he's saved humanity. And when an all-knowing, all-powerful godlike figure says "nothing ever ends", that's a big emotional hit to him.
@Dragonrage If I remember right, you're trying to find the smallest number of coins of denomination C1, C2, C3 etc. such that they add up to a total of N. I think the dynamic programming approach is to consider that you can find the smallest number of coins that add up to each number less than N, and use those as building blocks to get the answer for larger numbers
For example, if you have pennies, nickels, and dimes, then the smallest number of coins to make 18 cents is minimum of the smallest number needed to make 17 cents, plus 1 for a penny, or the smallest number needed to make 12 cents, plus 1 for a nickel, or the smallest number needed to make 7 cents, plus 1 for a dime
What makes it "dynamic programming" specifically and not just divide-and-conquer is that after computing, say, the smallest number needed to make 7 cents, you then *save that result
Since you will probably need to re-compute that when solving 12 and 17
@murgatroid99 thats similar to what i have. i think i have it working based off php code i found, now im just trying to understand how exactly it works.
int[] nums = Enumerable.Repeat(-1, request + 1).ToArray();
nums[0] = 0;
for (int i = 0; i < nums.Length; ++i)
{
foreach (int j in StampDenominations)
{
if (i + j <= request)
{
if (nums[i] != -1 &&
nums[i + j] != -1)
{
nums[i + j] = Math.Min(nums[i] + 1, nums[i + j]);
}
That's doing it slightly differently, in a way that's actually more similar to the Sieve of Eratosthenes that Strix mentioned. Basically, instead of looking back at each index to results with one fewer coin of each denomination, it's looking forward to results with one additional coin of each denomination
So, instead of doing "The result for 18 is the minimum of one plus the minimum of the results for 17, 12, and 7", it's doing "The result of 17 is X, so the results for 18, 22, and 27 are all X+1 if they're not already smaller"
What I thought was really bizarre about that original tweet was that even if he had written "coverage", as he clearly intended, it still would have been only half a sentence. It didn't look like he just misspelled something; it looked like he stopped in the middle of writing a tweet, posted it, and immediately went to sleep
@Gallifreyan To pretend to even know what The Endless really mean would require to stand in a gallery with a painting of Neil Gaiman, and hold his sigil.
I have leveled up to the point where I can barely be summoned as a Blade of the Darkmoon anymore, and in order to get the "Master of Miracles" achievement, I need to turn in thirty "Proof of a Concord Kept" to the covenant leader. @MadMAxJr We try our best, and he even responded to my tweet about Morpheus once!
@Avery Ah. I'm apparently oblivious to everything not directly related to me, even on country-policy level (an effect of not watching TV). Are you studying there as well (if I may ask)?
@MadMAxJr Still didn't get to read it :) Thanks for the reminder, by the way, since I asked my university library to order it but didn't check it out. I'll go get it in the next few days.
@Avery I am the king of Dictionary and covfefe means "I as the president of the united states irrevocably resign effective immediately and devolve all of my assets to the EFF, Propublica, ACLU and Planned Parenthood; as a last executive order everyone who used the term "cuck" or derivates thereof excluding covfefe in the last 24 days is forever stripped of the privilege of voting in any election for life."

Are horses in Zelda in an area the same for all players or are they randomly generated?
Do horses around the area also change their stats when you reload a save?
I'm playing 7 Days to Die with 4 friends. In the first session we played for about 4 hours. We built a shared base & setup bedrolls etc.
In the second session everyone except the host had their characters reset (no experience points/ skill points, starting inventory, random spawn on map).

@MBraedley That's true, and honestly I don't feel like they belong there, but those that are left are less about the circlejerk "society hates us" groups and more about the support group "how do I cope with my evil side" groups
one of these must be the case: a. there is a number for which it doesn't hold, but then there must be a proof: the counterexample b. there is no number for which it doesn't hold, but there exists no proof c. there is no number for which it doesn't hold, and there is a proof, but we don't know it yet
I don't see how there can be something for which there is proven to be no proof, and it's not independent of the chosen axioms (e.g. the continuum hypothesis)
@badp That's one of the premises of the incompleteness theorem
Also, it's hard to work with an infinite number of axioms in a finite amount of time
Right, I see. There are statements that are not provable within a set of axioms, but are provable within a larger systems that contain additional axioms that make statements about those original axioms
I think the statement about the Riemann hypothesis is kind of misleading. If we prove that it is unprovable under axiom set A, using axiom set B, and we say that if it is unprovable under axiom set A, then it cannot be false, then what we have really proved is that the Riemann hypothesis is provable under axiom set B.
I already have been playing Elder Scrolls Legends on Betheda.net, and have earned some good cards and titles. The game just recently became available on Steam and I'm wondering if there is any way I can join my existing account to my new steam one, so I don't have to re-earn all those cards and t...
The thing is that if it's truly unprovable under our current axioms, then we should be able to say "What would mathematics look like with the current axioms plus the negation of the Riemann Hypothesis?"
"there's a 0, and a number after 0, and a summation, and also the analytical continuation of the sum for n from 1 to infinity of n^-x has its zeros only at the negative even integers and complex numbers with real part 1/2."
(yes I know I missed more than a couple of axioms there)
Aleph-1 is by definition the cardinality after aleph-0. The real numbers have cardinality equal to that of the power set of aleph-0. The continuum hypothesis is that those two values are equal
that's not the way I learned it but it must've been a simplification.
"we call the cardinality of N aleph-0 and we call the cardinality of R aleph-1 and this is why they're different and also those alephs go all the way up"
I paraphrase.
but I'm ready to accept that this was a simplified version of the full story.
Interestingly, the Continuum Hypothesis Wikipedia page mentions the distinction between a platonist, who believes there is mathematical truth independent of provability within any particular axiom system, and a formalist, who believes that mathematical truth is basically the same as being able to prove a statement within the system. I guess I would characterize myself as the latter, which is why the statements in that video bothered me.
Very inspiring. Everyone should read this story.

Players have taken many different paths on their way to defeating the game's final boss. Are there different endings that reflect your choices throughout the game?
How many different endings does the game have, and how can you achieve them?

How do you summon an item that's "frozen" in space and that cannot be picked up in minecraft? I just can't seem to do it. I tried the "NoAI" tag and it still spawned, but as a regular item. Plz help!

It hasn't spawned any iron golems yet, and I have some...
