@Aequitas True, but that comes back to question one as to what does hacking account for. Running a program that scans your local mem and changes values on the fly is hacking, but is isn't "accessing a computer without authorization", and yet, it is accessing a computer without authorization when it's used for something with multiplayer access as your game is now also a client.

@Aequitas @NBN-Alex I think the biggest issue here is that the term "hacking" has been so watered down in common use over the years, that when a user asks about "hacking tools", we can't be reasonably certain what they mean - particularly if they don't give us context (Which tool(s)? Which game do they intend to 'hack'?).

Also, the 'yes and no answer only' part is hilariously ignorant. Because with a problem this complicated, the answer will almost always be 'maybe'

So part of the thing I do want to bring up though since that "hacking" isn't a legally defined word, and thus it gives the wrong impression to say that "Hacking isn't legal" when the question and definition is a lot more open ended.

I agree with the party that the question was in vain, but just wanted to let the group know that the comment wasn't the correct one either.

I believe that the US, at least, has "felony hacking" laws. But that also kind of implies that there may be other kinds of hacking

Also, I'm pretty sure that violating the ToS of a game or other product is a contract violation but not actually a criminal matter

If you violate the rules of a game, the company can apply whatever relevant penalties they legally have available, and they can sue you, but you can't be arrested for doing that (I'm pretty sure)

those don't work for spells, you need to smack them to give the element damage
