@StrixVaria @OrigamiRobot Legendaries are getting another buff.

@fbueckert Wheeeeeeee

Essentially, legendary item level is getting bumped to the monster level it drops from. Including low level items.
> Love Leoric's Signet, but hate wearing a level 17 ring? Me too. Instead of farming Act II Normal to find a Leoric's Signet, let's go farm Inferno and get a level 63 version of the ring!
(Everything we're suggesting for Legendaries also applies to Sets, too, by the way.)

Can someone shoot me in the head before my 3pm EST meeting?

@fbueckert "Now that we're finished with the crappy PS4 port, we're making decent fixes to the real game"

@Powerlord I dunno if I can fit that in my schedule, but I could shoot you in the foot between meetings

6:17 PM
@OrigamiRobot Basically, yeah.
> one of the short-term changes we're making is adding an "Identify All" option, which should be coming in 1.0.8.

Q: Free to play games go missing in the Steam library

mafutrctI added the Free-To-Play Team Fortress 2 to my favorite games in the Steam library, and played the game. After reinstalling steam, the game went missing from the library completely - it does show up in neither favorites nor recently played games. All other games work perfectly fine. I am loggin...

> We are also exploring ways to make crafting more exciting by adding not just more ways to make appealing items, but also introducing ways to modify existing items.
Finally!

@Lazers This is an improvement over the way F2P games used to work... they'd show up in every user's library all the time

If you're interested in reading it yourself.

I already read it.
Well, skimmed it.
Character builds based around legendaries is exciting if they can make it work.

6:27 PM
@OrigamiRobot They're turning it more into what Diablo is supposed to be.
Which is good.
They still have to add in offline support if they want me to buy any more of their other games, but I'm optimistic about these changes.
> We've also discussed allowing bosses the first time you kill them in each difficulty to have a guaranteed chance to drop a Legendary.
This is a bad idea, though.
People will create alts for no reason but to get those guaranteed legendaries.

@fbueckert That's how D2 worked. I agree it's bad.

@OrigamiRobot They're thinking of adding in targeted legendaries like that.
ie. the Butcher's Sickle has a higher chance of dropping from the Butcher.

That part is fine.
Andariel had a better chance of dropping unique rings than any other boss.

@OrigamiRobot Their entire idea was to get away from people farming bosses.
Which is why they added the Valor buff.

I have no problem farming bosses.

6:33 PM
@OrigamiRobot Neither do I; they should have a better chance to drop legendaries.

@fbueckert They're doing that! ...in the console versions!

I'm just pointing out that their entire design aspect was based around NOT farming bosses.
@Powerlord If it ain't happening in PC, I'm not buying any more Blizzard games.

I understand that it's dumb not to have it, but offline Diablo sucks.

@OrigamiRobot Perhaps.
The choice should be mine, however.

@OrigamiRobot Explain

6:37 PM
Personally, I play D3 by myself a ton more than I do with anyone else.

Microsoft, why does you pytools source code repo have a bunch of .msi files in it?

@Powerlord If you weren't playing Ladder Diablo 2, you were playing a nerfed version of the game.
@fbueckert Me too, but I still want to be online for the economy. Bad as it is, I'd rather it exist than not.

@OrigamiRobot I can't stand Diablo and don't play it. So, that doesn't really tell me a whole lot

@OrigamiRobot That's fair. But like I said. It should be the player's choice.

@Powerlord There were ladder only items and runewords. Also, economy.

6:40 PM
Especially when their entire PC spin for having it online was that it was completely designed that way from the ground up.

@fbueckert Like I said, I understand it's dumb not to have it, but only silly people would choose it. Or people without an internet connection.

@OrigamiRobot Or people who don't want to interact with the economy.

@fbueckert "silly people"

Or people who have a crap internet connection.
Or people of any sort of reason.

@fbueckert "Or people without an internet connection."

6:41 PM
@OrigamiRobot Now you're just strawmanning.

@fbueckert How many HRs did you find in single player D2? For me it was zero. Hell, even online I only found 2 myself in all my years of playing.

@OrigamiRobot I don't even know what an HR is.

Diablo is about items and trading.

Diablo is about items, yes.
Trading should be completely and utterly optional, however.

@fbueckert High Rune. Runes above Gul.

6:44 PM
@fbueckert and @OrigamiRobot Domination over the chat?

@OrigamiRobot Oh. No idea. I never paid attention.

@fbueckert It was in D2 and it made the game awful.

@OrigamiRobot Trading made it awful?

@fbueckert Lack of trading.

@OrigamiRobot And the AH is better?
It's cut down on the trade spam, yes.

6:45 PM
Better than no trading, yes.

But it's still present there, and with the always online, you now have bots spamming everybody.

@fbueckert I lived through D2 spammers which was far worse. I can deal.

@OrigamiRobot And it's not like I have a choice if I want to deal or not.
I have to deal.
I get that you like online; that's fine.

I'd rather deal with it than play offline.

But I want the choice to play offline.
If for no other reason than the amount of awesome mods that will get created.

Offline is a strictly worse game IMO.

@fbueckert This. The biggest blow that came from always online was no mods

@OrigamiRobot And I believe offline has the potential to be better.

I'm bored, I think I should write a TF2 plugin that starts one of the MvM sounds when a control point is captured.

In my experience, forcing online has made games worse, not better

6:49 PM
@fbueckert Mods don't have to be offline. That's an entirely different topic.
Offline would be useful for testing builds.

@OrigamiRobot Yeah, because always online has ever allowed mods.
I don't know of a single game that uses always online that allows mods.

@fbueckert The mods themselves can support online play.

@OrigamiRobot But that's the point. You can't play any D3 mods because they're all restricted to always online.

@fbueckert Team Fortress 2? :P

And that's why there are none.

6:50 PM
What I am saying is any kind of online capability is better than always offline in a Diablo style game.

Wait, those are mostly server mods.

Apply as needed.

@OrigamiRobot For you. I disagree.

@fbueckert Objectively.

Online optional > offline > always online.
Always online should never be a thing.

6:52 PM
Nope. Always offline is the worst.

@OrigamiRobot Opinions! We have them!

Q: How can I limit zone density?

authenticgeekMost of the time I'm aiming for big, high-density RCI zones but sometimes I want to build smaller areas that can't blossom into huge pollution spewing factories. Can I limit the density with clever use of space or roads?

And what about games where multiplayer is shoehorned in, to check off a box? That's better than offline?

@fbueckert You mean except for multiplayer-only games, right?

@fbueckert "in a Diablo style game."

6:53 PM
@Powerlord Multiplayer games sorta have to have online.
@OrigamiRobot In that case, no. Offline is better than always online.

Negative.

2 mins ago, by fbueckert
@OrigamiRobot Opinions! We have them!
At least we're agreed that optional online play is better than either one.

@fbueckert Yes, and in my opinion, people who want to play Diablo offline are silly.

@OrigamiRobot Then you can call me silly. Growing up, Diablo was primarily a single player game; we didn't have Internet.

@fbueckert I didn't have internet either. I still played Diablo all the time. Gaining the ability to go online was strictly better.

6:58 PM
So, how about that ?

@OrigamiRobot For you. I liked mods.

@fbueckert If it's a single player mod in Diablo, it's still not as good as online.

@OrigamiRobot Oh? How about the ability to cube runes right up to Zod?
Mods that added their own runewords and items?
Mods that turned D2 into a completely new game?

1 min ago, by OrigamiRobot
@fbueckert If it's a single player mod in Diablo, it's still not as good as online.

@OrigamiRobot You are entitled to your opinion. I find your staunch defense of online quite silly.
So hey! We're in the same boat!

7:01 PM
If any of those mods had featured online play, they'd be strictly better.

@OrigamiRobot LAN and TCP/IP were a thing.
Run the same mods, and bam. Online.

THEN THAT'S ONLINE WHAT ARE YOU EVEN ARGUING ABOUT

@OrigamiRobot YOU PLAYED D2 YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT

I do know that! You're the one talking about offline!

@OrigamiRobot Then what are we even arguing about!? I don't know of any D2 mod that was just, "Nope. Can't play it with nobody."

7:04 PM
> For example, if you are playing a Demon Hunter wielding a Rare crossbow and a Legendary crossbow drops, we want your reaction to be "Holy crap, YES!" not "sigh another Hellrack.
I found 2 different legendary crossbows yesterday on one run.

@fbueckert You're the one arguing for offline only.

17 mins ago, by fbueckert
But I want the choice to play offline.

@StrixVaria Don't encourage them

13 mins ago, by fbueckert
Online optional > offline > always online.

@StrixVaria Were they Hellracks? :P

7:05 PM
@fbueckert One was!

@OrigamiRobot Always Offline is objectively better than Always Online.

I just have a bad feeling we're going to see a large selection of posts moved to Android Hell soon.

> Barbarian set that makes Call of the Ancients last until they die (after we give them full pet survivability), a Wizard Orb that allowed for two Hydras to be active at once
Those both sound awesome.

@fbueckert I completely disagree. Why would you ever want to play single player and never use TCP?IP or LAN?

I also have a bad feeling that in 90 minutes, I'm going to want to shoot myself.

7:07 PM
@OrigamiRobot You're lumping TCP/IP and LAN into online?

@Powerlord I'm trying to give you an inane argument to watch.
@fbueckert YES

I classify those in the offline section.

Are you playing with other people? Online.

They're not connecting to a centralized server, which is what always online is.

Who cares. If it's multiplayer, it's online of some sort.

7:09 PM
@OrigamiRobot Online optional. As long as the player has the choice, that's what matters.

Now that we've solved that miscommunication, do you see why I am staunchly defending what I consider online?

@OrigamiRobot Yes. You're not defending always online, you're defending playing with friends.
THAT, I agree with 100%.

ARGUMENT OVER EVERYONE WINS

FAE
We are experiencing overwhelming demand which is keeping some users from accessing their games. We’re working as fast as we can to resolve.
So... SimCity released.
Hope people are having fun with their queue times.

@FAE I'm sure they are.

7:11 PM
@FAE I'm having fun arguing with @OrigamiRobot about nothing!

FAE
@fbueckert I see that!

@FAE The Dragon docked with the ISS. I guess they solved their problems.

New Iron Man 3 trailer.

@Fluttershy That looks like Iron Man, and therefore is cool.

> one of the short-term changes we're making is adding an "Identify All" option, which should be coming in 1.0.8
YES!

FAE
7:14 PM
@fbueckert Yeah, there was some sort of problem with them briefly losing communication which caused the solar arrays to not deploy and stuff, but they got it worked out. I'm glad.

1 hour ago, by OrigamiRobot
@fbueckert "Now that we're finished with the crappy PS4 port, we're making decent fixes to the real game"

@OrigamiRobot This makes sense.
Man fuck Blizzard.

@FAE Modern engineering is pretty miraculous, when you think about it.

@StrixVaria My nostalgia is still forcing me to blame Activision.

Humanity just sent a huge hunk of metal into space, and is controlling it from thousands of kilometers away.

7:16 PM
@fbueckert Soon we'll find out they're controlling it to do cat-face-shaped loops in the aether.

FAE
@fbueckert I know, it's so cool! I woke up at like 6am so I could watch the Curiosity landing live back when it deployed last year.

@fbueckert And scary. I just read a paper about the current safety standards for the things I deal with. I basically amounted to "All those things we said you could disregard can actually possibly kill you."

@OrigamiRobot There are probably dedicated safety engineers, I'd think.

"Oops"
@fbueckert This was an IEEE standard.

@OrigamiRobot Hey, you're an engineer. I need an intertial dampener, stat.

7:18 PM
And NFPA

@fbueckert Sure, let me google that for you.

@OrigamiRobot Wow. What are the chances of these things going wrong?

@fbueckert I'm not saying it's unheard of, just scary.

@OrigamiRobot I concur.
My brother used to build houses for a living.

Scary to think people have been told by an authoritative body that they can treat something with a lower level of caution than is actually required.

7:20 PM
I tell you, if they didn't actually have minimum codes in place for houses, they'd all fall down.
They did absolute minimum to meet code.

@fbueckert Oh yea, some of the places I've been are very "give me the cheapest thing that meets code"
If that!

@OrigamiRobot Which is why if I ever contract to have a house built, Dad is doing it.

I'm lazy, does anyone hear know which VS Project Type to use if one is creating a parser for a language for VS?

And it's going to have as much tech as I can cram into the walls.

VS Addin or VS Package?
Oh wow, I managed to kill the conversation completely with that? \o/

7:27 PM
@Powerlord @OrigamiRob and I are done fighting. Everybody else is finishing their popcorn.

@fbueckert ಠ_ಠ

user15026
I wish I had popcorn.

@AshleyNunn I forget... did you say whether or not you found 999?

@AshleyNunn How goes Pocket Stables?

user15026
@powerlord it is with the missing games. I am so frustrated with not being able to find them.

Q: What are the most effective ways to increase land value?

authenticgeekI've seen land value increases with the placement of Hospitals and Fire Houses, I assume parks do the same thing (though it seems like a much smaller increase). What are some effective ways I can get the most land value increase for my simoleon? If you can expand your answer to discuss both earl...

Q: List of champions' pricing changes

sergiomccRecently Riot Games came with new rules about the champion's pricing. Is there any list where I can check what champions changed its price each time a new one is released?

user15026
@fbueckert my horses are okay. Not as good as they could be. Not winning as much as I want to.

> You don't really have to be there, it's a requirements meeting
Yay, got out of my 3pm meeting. :D

user15026
Yay!

(sometimes its good not being the senior dev)

@AshleyNunn I'm working on beating the G2.
And seeing how traits are passed down into the third generation.

user15026
7:34 PM
@fbueckert I am going to pretend I am as far as you and that I understand that. :p

@AshleyNunn I'm only into the sixth year. :P
First time you beat the 16mil race, you unlock breeding.

user15026
Been in one of my omg reading all the books obsessions lately so gaming has gotten kinda sidelined while I fill my brain with books.

@AshleyNunn Never a bad thing.
Now that you're caught up on Emma, what's next?
Mistborn?

@AshleyNunn Are the books about stairs?

user15026
Right now it's a couple of chick lit (I hate that phrase but I don't know what else to call them) books borrowed from a friend, then likely Mist born.

7:42 PM
@AshleyNunn My favorite used bookstore around the corner is going out of business, which is sad, but they are liquidating their stock. Let's say I will be doing a bunch of reading now too...

@fbueckert My coworker did not like Mistborn because he missed very key parts about the way it ended. After I explained it, he understood, but had already decided he didn't like it from before.

@AshleyNunn NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

So which mod wants to set up all these synonyms?

Anyway, the guy down in our snack shop came back from the bank today with a whole roll of US State Quarters that had been painted on one side.

@OrigamiRobot Did you finish the trilogy already?

7:45 PM
@StrixVaria I loved Mistborn. Elantris was good too.

It's weird, I just Googled them, and people are trying to sell these quarters for like $6 on eBay

@StrixVaria No, I have not been able to start the second book for no particular reason.

@Coronus Mistborn was amazing. Elantris was terrible.
@OrigamiRobot The first book of Mistborn was the worst of the 3.

@StrixVaria You didn't like it? It's what drove me to find out more about his books.

Elantris was obviously a novice novel, to me.
It had a lot of interesting ideas, but the book wasn't paced right.

7:47 PM
@StrixVaria I liked it and want to read more, I just haven't.

The Way of Kings was amazing and that's what made me want to read more Sanderson.

@AshleyNunn Did you ever finish Cloud Atlas?
So far in Tomb Raider, I've noticed some pretty serious oversights that kind of ruin the immersion...

I have never played or seen any gameplay footage of any Tomb Raider game.

@StrixVaria Thank you. It's been years since I read his books, and I haven't kept up on recent ones. Did you know that Mistborn has a fourth, and a fifth coming?
Now to track down The Way of Kings.

@Coronus I heard about it, but I'm not as interested because the original trilogy was so complete.
@Coronus It's a beast. 1200+ pages.

7:51 PM
@StrixVaria I liked Elantris. It's pretty darn slow until the end, and then it's just, "What just happened?"
@Coronus The fourth is a "side story"
Not part of the planned trilogies.

@StrixVaria I played some of the originals... But I figured this reboot was as good a time as any to get into it. <_<

@fbueckert Pacing issues, like I said. I get that he tends to have an avalanche of action at the end, but the Mistborn books did it much better than Elantris.

@StrixVaria Elantris was probably one of his first books.

@fbueckert It was his first book.
I have this thing about judging stuff, though, where I don't really give a damn about context.

@StrixVaria Try Warbreaker.
It's got some pretty neat concepts.

7:54 PM
It's fine for an early book, but it's not good in general, so I still didn't like it.
Same with those singing competitions on TV. Wow, you're a great singer given that you're 3 years old, but you are terrible compared to people who have had time to train their voice for real. Why are you getting voted through?
/rant
@fbueckert Will do.

user15026
@fluttershy I keep trying but Cloud Atlas doesn't really hold my attention. :(

@StrixVaria I think I liked his fresh concepts. I liked how the mechanics of "magic" or so vastly different between Elantris and Mistborn.

@StrixVaria The neat part of that book is that anyone can use the magic system.

@Coronus His worldbuilding is great.
Unparalleled.

@AshleyNunn =(

7:56 PM
Trivia time! In what mid-90s PC game did two characters get sentenced to one year in the Toon Factory in the opening cutscene?

@Powerlord Halo!

@Powerlord ...Animaniacs?

@Powerlord Boogerman.

No right answers yet

Bubsy: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind!

7:57 PM
Hint: It was a puzzle game.

Tetris! Columns!

@StrixVaria Man, that game was fun.

Give up yet?

@OrigamiRobot It was pretty incredible.

7:59 PM

Ever played Cel Damage?
Now that's a fun game
