3:00 AM
@LessPop_MoreFizz Sorry, I've been trying to find the study for a while. There was a study that linked genetics with obesity with a greater correlation that any food consumption

The reason it was overturned had nothing to do with the substance of the ban and everything to do with the method by which it was introduced and the widespread loopholes.
@Ktash I'm sure that it's true that genetics have more to do with obesity than food consumption. But I'm also quite sure that food consumption has more to do with the rise of obesity, because I find it hard to believe that the American Genome has mutated in any substantial way in only 50 years.
In any given individual, genetic factors are probably stronger, sure, but I find that argument very flimsy when talking about demographic shifts in obesity.

But let's turn it into something more relevant to the room. Video games. Would you say it is within the governments right to limit the amount of time you spend playing a game? Or, a closer correlation, would it be right for the government to tell arcades that they can only allow people to play there for a limited amount of time

@Ktash I think it'd be a shitty policy, but yes, I do think that's within the government's authority, and in fact, I'd wager there are towns with ordnances of exactly that nature - at least applied to minors.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Now, explain to me why that should be allowed? Why should they be able to dictate to the people how often the do an activity? Or, how much soda they can purchase? I'm looking at it from the exact opposite stand point I feel. My rights should not be limited unless there is a cause or reason that prevents either me from causing harm to others, or others from causing harm to me. Neither of which fit in either of these cases

this is a....lengthy....discussion

3:07 AM
Just because I own a gun, that does not mean I will go on a killing spree. Similarly, just because I get the large soda, does not mean I am obese and it does not mean I am causing harm to others

@Ktash I think the problem here is that we're talking across each other. You're talking about what government should and should not do. And for the most part, I think we're going to agree with each other. And I'm talking about what government has the authority to do, regardless of whether it's wise for government to do so.

I'm talking about the authority.
The authority to take away my rights should be limited to the two cases above

And the fact of the matter is that, as currently constituted, government has fairly broad authority as written by our constitution. There are very few actions which are specifically exempted from the authority of government.

user15026
:P

user15026
@spugsley I am writing a paper, so I am mostly ignoring it

3:08 AM
@Ktash Moral authority, not legal. The legality is already established, is what @LessPop_MoreFizz is saying

user15026
All my brains are on academia at the moment

@spugsley We are trying to bore you so much that you go pack

@YiJiang'sEvilClone The subject is... tricky. Established and not established at the same time. Depends on the court and precedent. This is why lawyers get paid a lot

@LessPop_MoreFizz oh yeah....I forgot I have to pack. Damn

@Ktash Because consumers are not perfect decision makers. Because external costs exist that are more than your narrowly defined understanding of 'harm'. Because consumers can be rationally ignorant.

user15026
3:10 AM
@spugsley GO PACK SILLY LADY SO YOU CAN HAVE ALL THE GAMBLING ADVENTURES

@spugsley We could remind you every five minute until you do. I'll call it... Pack or Die!

@AshleyNunn I AM GOING TO PLAY SO MUCH ROULETTE

@YiJiang'sEvilClone But that is assuming harm (or guilt) which is the opposite of the principles on which the USA was founded

user15026
@spugsley ONLY IF YOU PACK

@YiJiang'sEvilClone :( I don't want to die
@AshleyNunn but I also don't want to pack :(

3:11 AM
That is assuming I am causing harm to others by buying a large sode

@Ktash The only instances in which the government does not have the authority to regulate your actions are those which are explicitly outlined; the government does not have the right to restrict your speech. The government does not have the right to restrict you from gathering or communicating with others. The government does not have the right to prevent you from bearing arms. The government does not have the right to force you to provide a home to soldiers.

user15026
@spugsley BUT ROULETTE

user15026
COME ON

user15026
YOU CANT ROULETTE NAKED
3

@LessPop_MoreFizz Haha, going to go through all 26 amendments? ;)

3:11 AM
@AshleyNunn do you find this US talk to be totally ridiculous as a wonderful, lovely Canadian? Just curious

@AshleyNunn Naked? What?! I'm in

@AshleyNunn .....this changes everything
@Ktash I love how intelligent argument turned into NAKED just like that

user15026
@spugsley It is mostly going over my head at the moment, because I have been writing a dry as hell essay for 6 hours, and also because THE RULES DONT APPLY TO ME MWAHAHAHHAHAA

user15026
@Ktash .....I AM TELLING HER SHE CANT BE NAKED, jeepers.

@spugsley Shut up and pack!

3:13 AM
@spugsley That doesn't happen enough in my life...

@AshleyNunn THIS IS MERICA I CAN BE NEKKID IF I WANT
7

@AshleyNunn WHAT?!?! Why would you ever say that!

user15026
@spugsley not in the ROULETTE PLACE

user15026
@Ktash BECAUSE THEY WILL KICK HER OUT AND THEN SHE WILL BE SAD

@AshleyNunn especially in the roulette place wonk I'll win all the monies

3:14 AM
@spugsley You should always be naked! At every opportunity

@Ktash I stopped when I hit the limit. The point is that one thing that the constitution does explicitly give government the power to regulate is the conduct of commerce. When you exchange money for a good or service, the government has the authority to regulate every element of that transaction, save those which are not explicitly protected elsewhere in the constitution.

@AshleyNunn I would take her

user15026
@spugsley I bet you would! BUT YOU SHOULD PACK IN CASE IT IS TOO COLD FOR NAKED

user15026
@Ktash O.O

user15026
@Ktash You know, I really do like this theory

3:14 AM
Can I do the reminder every minute?

user15026
@YiJiang'sEvilClone Sure!

@Ktash oh my O-o

@spugsley Shut up and pack!

user15026
@YiJiang'sEvilClone And hey, it even comes with an annoying sound :P

@AshleyNunn I was going to fix that. And then I decided not to

3:15 AM
@YiJiang'sEvilClone NO! I have been given permission to naked.

user15026
@Ktash Fair enough

user15026
@spugsley But what if you get cold

user15026
I AM THINKING ABOUT YOUR HEALTH HERE

@LessPop_MoreFizz That's not entirely true. Many of our human rights are not defined in the constitution or bill of rights, but are assumed

@AshleyNunn that's the only factor at this point because it is in the mountains :(

user15026
3:15 AM
....oh look, this discussion went in a circle

Now, obviously, there are lots of regulations that could be placed upon commerce which would make for colossally stupid policy. Requiring all transactions to be conducted in rolled pennies would be Very Very Dumb. You can plausibly argue that the soda portion restriction is similarly dumb. But Bad Policy is not the same as policy which is outside of the governments authority.

Okay! YOU WIN! I'm going to pack!

user15026
@spugsley SEE I KNOW WHAT IS GOOD FOR YOU

@LessPop_MoreFizz stop with the Merica and start with the nekkid. You know you want to
5

user15026
@spugsley You are a terrible influence

3:16 AM
@spugsley wat.

@spugsley Why not both? Let's start a discussion about the legality of decency laws in the US

@LessPop_MoreFizz Unless it violates its citizens rights, which is a matter implied, but not necessarily defined, in our laws and regulations

@Ktash Such as?

for example, the constitution and amendments make no mention of privacy. Yet it is considered a right, and cannot be violated by the law
You have the right to privacy

@YiJiang'sEvilClone I'm pretty sure I'll get banned if I say what I almost said so I'm not going to say it and I'll just go pack.
:p

3:18 AM
@spugsley DO IT!

@Ktash The right to privacy, as it is construed by the courts, is considered to be granted by the 4th amendment, which forbids unreasonable search and seizure.

@spugsley Shut up and pack!

Invasions of privacy are considered to be, for constitutional purposes, a 'search'.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Actually the 4th, and the 14th are usually cited. But the word privacy is never mentioned
@LessPop_MoreFizz Also, false

Okay, I was going to say @YiJiang'sEvilClone killed my lady boner

3:19 AM
Peeping Toms is an example off the top of my head

but I'm not going to say it
PLEASE DON'T BAN ME
just to be clear
I'm going to pack!

user15026
@spugsley awwwww :(

@Ktash the 14th is cited because the 14th amendment essentially says "You can't treat anybody differently from anybody else." It doesn't inherently have anything to do with a right to privacy.

@spugsley That is the fourth time you said that! Shut up and pack!

@Ktash Peeping toms are restricted by statute. There are specific laws that restrict people from spying on other people. That's not about a government right.
the 4th amendment has nothing to do with laws regarding voyeurism

3:21 AM
@LessPop_MoreFizz It's about the government's right to declare something a law. Not about what the government itself can do

@AshleyNunn Zero Escape 3 will apparently take place between 999 and Virtue’s Last Reward

user15026
@Krazer Weird, but fascinating.

The 4th amendment still says nothing about the privacy of an individual. But it is considered a human right and is implied, so we have laws to protect that, and we have stricken laws that violate that right

@YiJiang'sEvilClone Don't tell me what to do! You aren't my real dad!

@FAE AFAIK they only have 2 albums. The Dresden Dolls and Yes, Virginia. I tended to listen to both albums all the way through repeatedly. There isn't much to avoid if you want to get into it.

3:23 AM
@spugsley Shut up and pack!

@YiJiang'sEvilClone I'M PACKING I'M PACKING

@StrixVaria Don't forget A is for Accident.
@StrixVaria Also Palmer's solo material.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I was just on Wikipedia and that one wasn't listed.

@StrixVaria It's a live album that came out before the other two.
A Is for Accident is the debut live album by American dark cabaret duo The Dresden Dolls, a collection of live and studio recordings from 2001–2003, which was released on May 27, 2003 by Important Records. Future pressings were handled by 8 ft. Records and didn't include the bootleg recording of the band covering "Stand by Your Man" by Tammy Wynette. On October 20, 2009, the band released the album at Bandcamp.com, with two unlisted bonus tracks available to those who purchase the entire album (the digital download version, in a variety of formats, is free as of 2012). Most of th...

I wonder if that's on Spotify...

3:24 AM
I'm going out now. Should I leave the "Shut up and pack" script running, just in case @spugsley isn't packing? :P

It is!

Christopher Lydon and the Stand By Your Man cover are both quite good.

I used to care about my personal music library.

The Time Has Come is also quite great.
And Bank of Boston Beauty Queen.
TBQH, I think it is the best Dresden Dolls album.

user15026

3:28 AM
@AshleyNunn Woot!

@LessPop_MoreFizz I know you're probably just tired of this. But I found the article I was looking for via this video

user15026
@fbueckert Just read it. Now I am excited.

@AshleyNunn This person is on my goodreads to-read list along with way too many other things for me to have any confidence I'll ever get to anything specific.
It's been over a month since I've read anything. I stalled out yet again in the middle of a WoT book.

user15026
@StrixVaria Her books are really good. I highly recommend them. But I know what you mean about the goodreads list.

It doesn't help that I just keep adding. :P

user15026
3:33 AM
I got back to Mistborn:Hero of ages today. So good.

@LessPop_MoreFizz This is really good.

user15026
I am now a quarter of the way through it

@AshleyNunn This is the third one. That means you finished the second one!

user15026
@StrixVaria I did! I stayed up WAY TOO LATE one night finishing it

@StrixVaria Friends Don't Let Friends Read WoT.

3:34 AM
@LessPop_MoreFizz I'm pretty close to giving up on it.

user15026
And now they are making vague references to Hemalurgy, and that intrigues the crap out of me :D

@StrixVaria You should. I did a decade ago, and I am a Better Human Being For It.

Q: Does the damage from dragon breath attacks fall off with range?

Steve V.I have gone where I ought not and am now paying the price. A dragon far above my level has landed and is attempting to breathe me to death. My usual tactic of hiding behind trees has failed me. My only hope is to double-fist fireballs and healing, and try to be where the damage isn't. In most...

Every time I read something else after I read a WoT book, I think "Wait. Reading is fun again!"

user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz I tried to read the first book twice, then was like....nope.

3:35 AM
Then I dread going back for the next WoT book.

user15026
Same reason I never did finish Dance with Dragons

@LessPop_MoreFizz yuck, WoT

@StrixVaria Don't worry! That Goodreads list will get quite a bit smaller once Amazon's purchase is complete, and you're stuck being able to only select Kindle books! =D
Wait...

user15026
@Fluttershy ....

user15026
you are a special man

3:35 AM
@Fluttershy I pretty much only read on my Kindle anyway.
@LessPop_MoreFizz This is really good.

Who was it who was super excited about new daft punk recently?

user15026
It has been a while since I have touched a physical book except for school.

OMG GoT in THREE DAYS O_O O_O

@StrixVaria Me too, now that I have one! =D

@spugsley I can't find the GoT beer in Tennessee. :(

3:36 AM
NSFW language, and some man ass at the end.

Someone pick the next book for me to read out of this list.

@StrixVaria Neverwhere.
didn't even look at the list

@StrixVaria O_O FURIES OF CAULDARON
NOW
DO IT

@Fluttershy This is on the list, so that wins.
@spugsley I don't think this is on the list.

@StrixVaria yes it is
I just looked

3:39 AM
Oh that's the Codex Alera one.

@StrixVaria best series I've ever read

Oh well, @Fluttershy won.

:(

I will officially abandon Fires of Heaven sometime this weekend and start on Gaiman.

Yayy! =3 I'm excited for you to read Neverwhere!

user15026
3:39 AM
Someone besides me needs to read Mr. Penumbra's 24 hour bookstore because that book was SO GOOD

@AshleyNunn It's on the list. You should have been faster.

@StrixVaria And you really should add The Name of the Wind to your list

user15026
@Fluttershy Neverwhere was my first Gaiman book, and it got me hooked.

user15026
@StrixVaria ITS A LONG TITLE

@spugsley Uh... my favorites list

3:40 AM
@StrixVaria ohhhh :3

@StrixVaria No, don't give up!

@spugsley That's on my list!

@StrixVaria have to read Wise Man's Fear?
@Fluttershy Incredible.

@spugsley I've read it. It's not even close to as good.

@StrixVaria agree

3:41 AM
I will still read Doors of Stone.

@StrixVaria of course

user15026
I need some fluffy non-thinky book recommendations.

@Fluttershy NIGHT ANGEL TRILOGY NAO

user15026
@Fluttershy OMG NIGHT ANGEL READ IT

user15026
3:41 AM
@StrixVaria I like the way you think

Was it one of you people that was excited about the new Daft Punk record?

@LessPop_MoreFizz Not me.

Or was it one of the euros who is sleeping like now like @fredley?

@StrixVaria Currently working on Tigana, Kushiel's Dart, and Ready Player One. So..... gonna be a bit.

@Fluttershy don't bother with the Kushiel stuff

3:42 AM
Ok I have to sleep.
@Fluttershy Ready Player One was interesting.

@spugsley TOO LATE I ALREADY LIKE IT

@StrixVaria Well you ought to be excited about it.

@Fluttershy the first one is great
the rest are shit

@LessPop_MoreFizz Around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world
Night.

user15026
@spugsley After the first three, I got bored. I liked the first one the best.

3:42 AM
@AshleyNunn agree. I read the first three and regretted the last two

@Fluttershy Delete items 8-21 on that list. You'll thank me someday.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I second this

@LessPop_MoreFizz At least that one is a sprawling fantasy epic whose author won't die before finishing it left notes so someone else could finish it!

user15026
My to-read shelf - goodreads.com/review/list/…

@Fluttershy Read it. Read it lots.
It's one of my favorite series.

3:45 AM
@fbueckert and here I thought you had good taste. Shame on me

@fbueckert I'm going to read them all someday.

@AshleyNunn Oh, if you're looking for something less serious: try Enchantment Emporium.

@AshleyNunn Move up Maus.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I also second that :)

@spugsley I devour books. I read incredibly fast.

user15026
3:46 AM
@LessPop_MoreFizz I have heard good things about it. I am on a hold list at school for a copy :D

@fbueckert That doesn't excuse poor taste.

@AshleyNunn Lamb! =P

user15026
@fbueckert Oh?

@LessPop_MoreFizz you beat me to this

@LessPop_MoreFizz You hate Sword of Truth. Your book opinions mean nothing to me.

3:46 AM
NERD FIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT

@fbueckert oh now wait. This might change things. Whole series or just the first few?

@fbueckert I also hate Atlas Shrugged and the Fountainhead. Why would I like the pathetic male power fantasy ripoff with wizards and shit instead of trains and skyscrapers?

user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz Ayn Rand makes me want to puke rocks.

@AshleyNunn bahahahaha

@LessPop_MoreFizz I can safely say I have not read either of those.

3:48 AM
I don't hate the Sword of Truth for reasons of taste. I hate the Sword of Truth because I find the authors underlying political philosophy, which is expressed strongly in said books, to be wholly and powerfully repugnant.

@LessPop_MoreFizz oh well, I thought the first two were fantastic and then the rest were shit.

The Sword of Truth books are not bad in the way that the Wheel of Time is bad.

My favorite books are about a Florida Historian/Serial Killer... I feel like I'm not bringing much to this debate. =(

The Sword of Truth books are bad in the way Mein Kampf is bad.

I can't stand this whole "Omg we in love. Omg you leavin? Omg okay I come find you. My bad, I left again."

user15026
3:49 AM
@Fluttershy I read Nora Roberts books.

@AshleyNunn I know Nora Roberts son and his lovely wife :)

user15026
@Fluttershy Although that sounds intriguing

user15026
@spugsley speechless

It doesn't matter whether they're entertaining or well written, though I'd argue that they're neither - they are morally reprehensible.

@AshleyNunn wait, her daughter and daughter's husband. I always get confused :p
but I haven't meet her

user15026
3:50 AM
@spugsley Either way, neat.

@spugsley I suddenly feel the need to hear you say this on mumble.

I heard she was the life of the party at the wedding though :p
@Fluttershy ....it sounds exactly the way you'd expect it to

user15026
@Fluttershy Me too, tbh

but seriously, that's exactly how SoT is
that's why it's so terrible.

user15026
@spugsley yeah, but you and @OrigamiRobot took great delight in how I said the word 'house', so....you know.

3:51 AM
@spugsley Vocaroo! NAO!

@Fluttershy ....wha? O-o

user15026
@Fluttershy YESYESYES

@spugsley vocaroo.com
You can record yourself saying it. And then post the link here! =D

user15026
@Fluttershy I like you and your crazy ideas

@spugsley Mostly, I figured it was one giant rant against socialism.

3:53 AM
OMG IMMA DO IT

But as an entertaining story, it delivered for me.

user15026
@spugsley YES

and then if anyone wants to hear my rendition of "The Circle of Life" I can deliver because it's been stuck in my head for literally like...2 weeks

user15026
@spugsley I legit just fell off my chair

user15026
@spugsley YES PLEASE

3:55 AM
@spugsley I'm game.

user15026
ITS LATE AND I NEED AWESOMENESS

@spugsley Also, this was awesome.

@AshleyNunn lol I can't do it. I just keep laughing
because I don't know the lyrics and so it's like "CIRCLE OF LIFE!!!! THAT ISSSS A SONNNGGGG"

user15026
@spugsley PLEASE FOR ME I WOULD LOVE YOU FOREVER

user15026
CAKE THREE TIMES EVEN

3:57 AM
lol maybe I'll save it for a rainy day :p

WHAT.
How did I do that.

@StackExchange ...does this mean he disowned us?

o_o wat

I DID NO SUCH THING.

user15026
3:57 AM
@LessPop_MoreFizz I was just going to ask you that

@AshleyNunn You are a mod fix it

user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz I dont even know how

user15026
so once I figure that out, I can

@AshleyNunn Do you have a normal make owner button?
@AshleyNunn Click my name

user15026
3:58 AM
I DID IT

Now do me! >______>
5

I still have no idea how the hell I did that.

user15026
I will try not to abuse my newfound powers

user15026
@Fluttershy Oh, baby.
