7:00 PM
Oh zeus, I'm so happy to be seeing numbers/
I love you japanese wiki, google translate, and @sternold <3
And also @GraceNote just so she doesn't feel left out.

I love trying to parse out some of the bad translations.

@BenBrocka Either NDT actually pushed theirs out and I never knew, or it was someone I don't know.

Hello, everybody!

and @OrigamiRobot just because.

@Yuki HELLO

user15026
7:00 PM
@Yuki heya :)

> When I received the attack, the number of times it was received by the enemy, which has been the only attack to fight back in the case of surgical procedures of light palm.

> Be held in the high class TP by grimoire of it is possible to use without equipped with a shield too.

Wait, you're not spugsley. Hello!

I am, at the end of the day, only a single portion of that community after all.

@BenBrocka Would, if NCSoft cared at all about the IP.

7:01 PM
It's Friday!

Which, with the unceremonious shutdown and massive price to buy it, doesn't sound like it.

Apparently boost is 150% damage

holy snap.
Defender results in the party only taking 75% normal damage?

@Yuki Welcome change

I've been on the fence about that one, but I'm taking it.

7:02 PM
@Wipqozn Maybe boost is how you get to skill levels 11-15.
> The BOOST skill, skill Lv to fire +5. Maximum trigger Lv 15.

@Sterno I bet that's exactly what it is.

Mmm, boosted level 10 fire = 400% damage

oh cool
they've added weather to godus

Looks like it's only on skill you need to activate, so I bet that's it.

+ hit their weakness, + get party member to boost elemental damage

7:03 PM
Doesn't look like passive skills can go above 10;

Well, I feel like playing some games.
Not sure what though.

Damn, the front guard skill results in the front line taking 58% damage.

@Yuki I will be up for payday 2 shortly

I wonder if those stack.
Defender and Front Guard.

7:04 PM
@Wipqozn Probably multiplicative if they do

They usually stack, yeah.

@Sterno That's what I assumed.
Oh man. So I will be getting defender.

Wait what?

user15026
@BenBrocka Interesting.

Fire/Ice/Volt Wall are 75% reduction at 1 point, 50% at 2 points, "INVALIDATION" at 5 points?

user15026
7:06 PM
I keep thinking I want to get X/Y but then I remember I didnt even remotely finish White

That doesn't sound right.

> Holding the Sagan

X/Y sound much more exciting to me than gen 5

I love the way google translated the ronin stances.

@AshleyNunn My brother bought a 3DS because of X/Y...

7:06 PM
@Unionhawk I bought a 3DS for Monster Hunter...
And a Wii U as well...

@Wipqozn Protector seems much better in this game than defense classes in the other games

user15026
@Unionhawk I love the idea of Pokemon, but then I play and I get stressed out about playing it perfectly and optimizing everything and then I get anxious and can't play

hm, I might switch over to the double strike samurai skill instead of horse slash eventually.
Horse Slash is 295% damage at a cost of 10TP, and Swallow is 420% damage (3 strikes at 140%) for 18TP.

... is thefuckingweather.com (potential nsfw) not working for anyone else...?

7:09 PM
@AshleyNunn Hm, I can't find it. :/

@Sterno Eh? Hoplite seemed pretty solid.

@GraceNote Was that 3?

Yes.

user15026
@FEichinger awww :( what was it about?

@Unionhawk Yeah, it doesn't seem to be working properly.

7:10 PM
@GraceNote He needed 10 points to do to one element that the protector does to ALL elements with 5.
Granted, for the protector, it only works on one attack. But generally it's bosses you need it for

@Yuki Damn. Time to get actual weather then

@Sterno I didn't use my Hoplite to do elemental guard.

@AshleyNunn Was basically an interview/research piece with a couple of folks in Second Life, touching on the ten year anniversary and all that.

Provoke, and both parries, plus normal equipment, ended as pretty strong defense especially in the late game with all the enemies that attack 8-10 times per round, elemental or physical.
Plus Bodyguard for the occasional emergency.

user15026
@FEichinger ah, cool :) I am mining JSTOR for all the articles....I might be going a wee bit overboard

7:14 PM
I might be late for the party, but

@AshleyNunn There's a couple of good ones that also mention how they approach the people and all that.

user15026
@badp Never too late! this party never stops :)

@badp as usual

user15026
@FEichinger Yeah, that is the kind of thing I am mining for right now - stuff about the process :)

user15026
.....I am going to stop talking though before i like go mad digital media info geek all over this room
2

7:15 PM
@AshleyNunn dawwww

user15026
@badp <3

@badp saw that earlier. Fuckin valve

@GraceNote Would you mind taking a minute to look at a skill on the wiki in Japanese and try to provide a rough idea what it's trying to say? The Google Translate is very confusing for thi skill.

Maybe one day I'll look into what exactly Greenlight is.
@Wipqozn Which skill?
(Also you will need to link)

7:19 PM
@GraceNote It's a Ronin (Bushido) skill which Google Translated as "Holding the Muso"
but I'm pretty sure that's not even the right class page

No, that's the Alchemist.
The one that requires 10 katana mastery?

@GraceNote Yes.
That's the skill on the english translation
It has multiple tables for the one skill, and I'm not sure what they're for.

S'far as I can tell, it's a unified stance that lets you use all three stances at once?

Sounds like a really awkward game of Twister.

That's a rough guess on what it's saying you get for 3 turns.

7:23 PM
Oh, maybe that's what it is.
The skill in-game gives you every buff that you get from the other stances, and lets you use any stance skills.
But it made it sound like it had it's own special buffs, not that it was combined from all ther other skills.
That would make more sense.

@Wipqozn Highlander has a skill that, whenever he takes damage, gives him a chance to do a normal attack on whoever damaged him. I really want to max that out and grimoire it for everyone (except the alchemist)

Because I was wondering why the bonuses were so ridiculously compared to the bonuses from each single stance.
Thanks @GraceNote.

@BenBrocka oh god

Steve has been solving mysteries with Blue's Clues for a while now. But can he solve the mystery http://t.co/Q7f8MhMi8Y

7:26 PM
@BenBrocka Don't read the fanfic.

I'm assuming stances still take up a buff slot, and that you're still limited to three slots?

@Sterno I... probably don't even want to know.

@Unionhawk Correct.

NN people

@Sterno Oh ... my god.

7:27 PM
@GraceNote I think so.
Okay, and looks like I'll only be buffing up peace Ballad to level 9.

@Wipqozn ...do you know how to check on buff stats and durations?

@GraceNote Nope.
I had no idea I could do that.

I ate two double decker peanut butter sandwiches. I am so full.

During battle you should have an option on a separate button (usually I think it's either Y or select) when selecting a character's action - this will give you a readout of their current battle status.

user15026
@OrigamiRobot I haven't had a peanut butter sandwich in a really long time

7:31 PM
THAT'S WHAT THAT SCREEN IS FOR
I've never looked at it before when I had buffs.

Well, now y'know. This gets pretty important when you start having to juggle so many buffs at once.

@GraceNote Stances take up a buff slot.

Figures. So be aware of this since you're running a bard and a ronin.

I've had to just try to keep track of stuff in my head.
It was annoying.

Q: Can you buy a helipad or hanger in GTA V Online?

NathanTempelmanI haven't seen any in the property list. Is it possible they're unlocked at a higher level?

7:39 PM
oh okay, now I see.
Peerless Stance is the strongest, but you need to use it from another stance.
So it's TP cost is pretty high and it takes two turns to set it up, not one.
Plus it can only last 3 turns.
That explains why the bonuses are so much higher.

And it lets you use moves from all three stances?

Yes it does.
but you need to be in one fo the other stance to do it.
So it's two turns of set-up, not one. Not sure if the bonuses are even worth it. You'd probably be better off using that extra turn to just attack.
plus the other stances can get extended durations.
Yeah, I'm not getting it.

whacks C++
Seriously, get automatic forward declarations already

The other stances last longer, and take less time to set-up. You'll lose any extra damage you gain from all the set-up.
Makes the Ronin more durable, but with a good protector that won't be a problem.

Basically it's for more immediate versatility I imagine.
'course, I know few who don't just rush Overhead and max out the multi-attack skill (which I guess is now called Swallow?) and just kinda work from there.

7:45 PM
@GraceNote I'll probably wind up doing that set-up too. Probably.
Overhead is what I'm using, but torn between the single strike and multi strike skill.
Horse is a lot easier on the TP, but not quite as much damage.
Linked numbers above, was 295% for 10TP vs 420% for 18TP I think.
I'll probably get multi, but I think I'll wait a bit longer.
Now that I have some numbers I can start planning out my builds more.
This is so helpful. The buff screen.
I saw someone mention th3 buff limit when I was going across the internet, but didn't realize what things counted as buffs.
ooo, now I can test something I've been wondering
Oh excellent. It does extend it.
upper limit of 9, what I expected. Excellent.

Oh, yeah, reusing a buff usually just adds the new duration on to a max of 9 turns.

Now Ican start planning.

Yes newegg I would love an extended warranty on a heatsink and fan
You never know when those heatsinks will stop sinking

Peace Ballad and Warrior Stance will be my primary bard songs then.
Peace Ballad will be up on my back line 24/7, and I'll swap out something for my front line when they get low on TP so I can give them peace ballad.
Actually mayeb not all the time
and also talking boss fights
and also basically blogging

Oh, bard songs only hit one row again?

7:58 PM
@GraceNote No, I'm accounting for the 3 buff limit.

Oh, so it is all folks like in the first two, gotcha.

MY front line fighters are a protector and a ronin, so they'll each have their own buff up (provoke and overhead stance).

So... Rune Factory 4?

So they have room for one less buff.

Man, more people need to play Rune Factory, so I can talk about that.

8:00 PM
@fbueckert Now y'know how I feel at ALL THE TIMES.

And I'm thinking the buffs I'll have up are going to be Warrior Song/Defender/Peace Ballad.

@GraceNote Except you got us into Elona!

I'll probably alternative peace ballad from the front line with warrior or defender.
Or something. I'll figure it all out.

@fbueckert I did. After three years.

I might get the Medics elemental boost as well, and use either that or defender depending on the boss.

8:01 PM
...medics get Immunize back?

Yes.

@GraceNote I also play the same Gust games you do.

Medics can also poison.

@fbueckert To wit, I still am only in Rorona and not quite the far enough and haven't been finding time to return to it. Which was actually a conversational point yesterday on a long car ride.
@Wipqozn Not as important, what's important is immunize.
And note that I'm referring to what was originally immunize, if they have a different skill under the same name in this remake.

So, how is RF4?

8:03 PM
@GraceNote Immunize is an elemental defense boost to the party.

@Yuki Quite good. I'm enjoying it.
Still haven't gotten to the crafting stage as of yet, though.

I'm done with Wind Waker again so I'm thinking about picking it up.

@Wipqozn That is what it was before, and was without question the most powerful ability in all of EO1.

Need a bit more wood.
2

8:04 PM
@GraceNote Well snap, I'll keep that in mind.

It looks pretty slick.

Still not 100% sure what my medic is going to look like.
But I know all his skills are coming from his Heal Mastery tree.
Except for the TP Up one.

I have a friend who is a LEGO fanatic. He's building a 1:1 scale SNES out of LEGO. I told him he should buy a Raspberry Pi, put a SNES emulator on it and freak everyone out by plugging his creation into a TV.

Yesterday, I set the Hyrule overworld theme as my ringtone.
And it went off during class today.

@RedRiderX cc @OrigamiRobot

8:06 PM
@RedRiderX Need

I swore I heard people humming along as I left the class to take my call.

@Wipqozn Oh, they nerfed it. Nevermind.

@JasonBerkan And then they should make one of these:

@GraceNote IT's 75% elemental damage now. What was it before?

@Wipqozn Before, elemental damage meant all elements.
(And I think the actual damage reduction was much more significant as well, but I am not finding any of the old mechanical listings)

8:09 PM
@GraceNote There is more than three elements?

@Wipqozn Bash, Cut, and Stab are elements.

@GraceNote Oh, TIL.
Well in that case I can see why it was considered the best
That sounds pretty ridiculous.

@Wipqozn Play on Hard so these numbers matter!

Yes. Combined with the amount of reduction it gave (which, to @Sterno, this comparison to say "Even a Dragon's breath could be reduced to non-fatal damage" should give a hint as to how much reduction it was), it was quite absurd.

@GraceNote Did the original EO1 have delicious ice cream buffs that did amazing things like give you hp or tp back at the end of every round, for the entire dungeon?

8:11 PM
@Sterno No.

@GraceNote I wonder if being out of tune counts for air elemental damage

Games just keep making things easier. :(

@Sterno I think I've used the 2 or 3 times.

Q: Cool beans general locations? Gta v

JamesI'm 50% through the game now and I'm yet to see anything to do with them? Got a few mil in stocks in them I wanna get up, any ideas?

To be fair, the first game was a bit of a kick in your teeth. Not as mean as the second was about TP sustenance, but still. Between Macabres and a post-game boss who you had to know the exact turn order ahead of time to avoid party wipe...

8:13 PM
@Wipqozn I wasn't using it much until I found out sometimes it says "Good" next to it, and does super awesome things like "100% grimoire chance", or "grimoire skill levels are doubled", or "bonus xp"

@Sterno But for all the easier we can claim for the later games, we lost Immunize.

@Lazers I... what?

This is the first EO I've played where spending HP along with TP to activate a skill seems a common thing.
There was a skill or two like that in 3 or 4, but it didn't seem super common
@GraceNote I started EO with EO3, and while I own 1 & 2, have never gotten around to playing them. So I guess I won't miss what I never had!

@GraceNote That is my most hated thing in video games. Requiring me to die / lose the game in order to know how to win the game.

@JasonBerkan Thankfully this didn't come back in the later games. The post-game stuff still will knock you silly but you can at least be prepared for it pre-mortem.

8:15 PM
Combine that with a lack of autosave, and I will ragequit your stupid game.

@Sterno Medics lost having Immunize directly in 2, but instead they had a Force ability (the replacement for Boost) that applied Immunize's effect.

@JasonBerkan welcome back btw

I don't know. In a way, that's how boss fights work in a lot of action games too. Bosses have certain attack patterns you need to learn, and chances are super good you'll die the first few times until you learn it

@Sterno And guess what kind of games I don't play?

@JasonBerkan Freecell?
Dark Souls was basically entirely about learning by dying.

8:17 PM
@Sterno I think it's a fair bit different. Some action games are a bit unforgiving but usually not in a supremely jerk fashion as having something that has absolutely no deterministic pattern and which you can also be locked out of defending against if you're exceedingly unlucky, consisting of 3 elements of essentially instant death moves.

@GraceNote Was it a fixed pattern, or different every time?
I'm guessing different since you said not deterministic

@Sterno It's a fixed order that it will take. Not a pattern, is what I mean.

oh but surely the correct order is foreshadowed in the end of the super-secret ultimate form final dungeon's set of QR-code-based puzzles

I'm weird. I enjoy stuff like that, I think, so long as each time I do it I can get progressively better.

Which turns it would happen followed no sane numeric scheme and which element it would be had absolutely no relation. It was entirely a case of having to know ahead of time which one was coming.
There's no "getting better". It's "Mapping out what happened that turn and starting from scratch because the party wiped".

8:20 PM
@Sterno I can tolerate it with save states

Okay, you're talking about needing actual precognition.

Yes.

Gotcha.

"let me rewind to ten second ago and completely nullify your stupid boss design"

So it basically comes down to randomness and luck.
@badp Zelda 2 gets a lot easier with save states.

8:21 PM
Only 50% randomness. The other 50% is either direct trial-and-error cognition or reading the guide on GameFAQs that tells you what the elemental death pattern is for the first 50 turns

@GraceNote wait what.
50 turns?

@badp It might've been only 30, but they mapped it out pretty far in case you take a long time in the fight.

What kind of special mind does it take to create something like that?

My pet peeve in video games is enrage timers on bosses.

@Sterno I don't think I ever played a game with one
is that stuff actually common?

8:22 PM
The randomness is whether he will decide to or not to use the moves that confuse your entire party, or the move that causes binds on the entire party, which invariably always works against your Protector since status defense is pitiful in EO1.

Clearly you need to just retire and put all your points in luck!
Or was luck only for landing binds, not resisting them?

"Hi! It seems like you're having trouble with this fight! Would you like help with that? (X) Yes, please make it impossible to win. [OK]"

@Sterno Only affected your offense, to my recollection.

For just 30 EO coins, you can buy a powerup potion that lets you withstand the bos's elemental attack! Buy 100 EO coins now for $9.99, or 1000 for only $74.99 (BEST VALUE!)

I lolled

16 GB RAM, 8 GB SSD, 1 TB HD, varying CPUs and GPUs
dimensions between XBO and PS4

I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with my alchemist.
Maxing out the three single target element skills is something I'd like to do since it would be nice for bosses, but that would make them a lot less useful against random mobs because of the increased cost.

Ars Technica prices the varying specs between $600 and $1,500

Then again, those 3 stronger area type skills without being leveled might be enough for mobs

@Wipqozn I don't know about this one, but in 3 & 4 there really weren't enough skill points to make an alchemist who was good at all 3 elements
This one seems to have less skills though.

8:31 PM
@Sterno Yeah, I'm really not sure what I'm doing with my alchemist.
Because I really want to be able to exploit weaknesses.

I'd get at least one good AOE spell for when you absolutely, positively need to kill every last motherfucker in the room.

That might be what I do.

They used to have 3 skills per element which made this a lot easier to work with.

@GraceNote They still do, but they seem to have changed it a bit.

Single / Low Damage, Single / High Damage, and All / Medium Damage?

8:32 PM
In the original you had a single target weak spell, single target strong spell, and an AOE spell, right?
Yeah, they only have one single target spell now.

Ooh! Phoenix Wright:Dual Destinies has a demo out today!

Yeah. Hence the lack of it being easier to work with now. You basically pumped the high damage spells for boss fights and kept the low damage cheap for the labyrinth when facing things you didn't want to immediately eliminate (this starts to become a much more prominent concern as you get deeper in, mind you)

One of them was replaced with an AOE type spell, but each works differently. The flame one does damage to a monster and monsters adjacent to it. Ice hits the monster in the front row and the monster in the line behind it. Lighting is all of one row.

...there are rows?

Yes, didn't the original have that?
Front row and back row?

8:35 PM
Not for enemies.

Oh, well yeah enemies have rows now too.

Interesting.
So basically you've got burst, pierce, and wide attacks for the spells.

Yeah.
And then "I hit everything because I'm fancy'
Also, according to the wiki the single target spell still does the last amount of damage. It's not that much less than, and it's a lot more cost effective.

A: How can I reliably avoid missiles?

Mauro FanelliI am one of the developers of Futuridium! You can avoid missiles in two ways: 1) fly in diagonal and you can go slightly faster than them, they can't hit you! 2) fly in diagonal or up/down and then turn, you'll avoid them. ;) Hope you're enjoying the game! :) Mauro

@MichaelDunfield Oh damn. That's authoritative.
(google chrome says I spelled that right, but I'm not convinced...)

8:40 PM
Aha! I have gotten a letter back from PotatoEngineer!

chrome often ignores spelling errors for no apparent reason

I wonder which user has posted the highest number of questions with developer answers.

you spelled it right though

I can think of at least three devs who have answered my questions on the site
Also, Futuridium is the shit and you guys should all play it especially because it is free

It turns out that he's actually a prominent contribute on the tag.

Q: Twohanded enemies one shot me

SandokanI have encountered a rather odd and annoying "feature" in Skyrim. It seems like enemies wielding twohanded weapons have no trouble killing me in one or two strikes, regardless of wether I block or not. My level is 20 and have been focusing on a standard sword and board warrior type. I'm wearing S...

I feel like I'm looking at something that needs 3D glasses

@BenBrocka Not most of the time. It looks less crazy in motion than it does in thescreens. When stuff gets intense some times there's some glitch effects, but my screenshots were all taken while I was trying to doge rockets.
also the soundtrack is fucking bomb

@BenBrocka it probably makes more sense in motion

8:46 PM
@BenBrocka I urge you to try it out. I was like meh for a while but I finally actually played it a couple days ago and I love it
It's reminiscent of starfox in many ways

@BenBrocka Is this worth the effort to open and read on my tablet or is it as boring as it sounds

@MichaelDunfield long pdf

pizza ordering time, woo

boring technical talk, barely images

Nice, @bartongellman posted the 49-page NSA research paper on how to crack Tor! https://s3.amazonaws.com/s3.documentcloud.org/documents/801761/ces-summer-2006-tor-paper-28redacted-29.pdf
It's exactly what it sounds like

I should probably know... but what is Tor?

@3ventic Star Wars.

@MichaelDunfield ...no

Also a web browser that is supposedly encrypted

@MichaelDunfield Yes,

8:57 PM
I know that is spelled wrong but I am really tired.

Something for the internet criminals, I see.

@3ventic And the crypto nuts, yes
