@fbueckert actually in this instance I'm debating his question is on topic, gaming related, within a defined scope, clearly answerable and has a definitive answer, not asking for an opinion
sure its worded pretty bad both in it's original form and its edit, but I really don't see what the problem is
for most other gaming related "why are things like this" can be bounced over to game dev and the rest can go to wikipedia, doesn't really need debating
@fbueckert sure, can agree with that, I just wish people in the community would put the same effort into answering questions and being positive as they put into finding reasons why not to answer questions/being arses to randoms
@tiddy the comments to the question were lacked by established members of the community who knew better and yet still made in some cases equally as bad comments
@fbueckert and gameaddict was a brand new user rather than somebody who had demonstrated they would contribute to the site AND keep returning over a year period
@tiddy @fbueckert I am sure I don't need to remind you, but without users this is just a bunch of text on a webserver somewhere that has no use, point, or value
@Wipqozn I mean it is unrealistic for a first time, or second, maybe even third time user, to be expected to be fully aware of the way this site works, the full contents of the FAQ, etc
I have been here more than a month and I still work out something new about arqade on a daily basis
@pixel Yes, of course. But what do you mean by "allow mistakes"? Are you suggesting we don't close their questions? put more effort into helping them salvage their questions? et cetera.
@pixel Closing is a temporary state. The point of closing questions quickly is to prevent users from posting answers to a question that needs to be fixed.
I think we could use some slight improvement in helping new users, but new users also need to understand that they're joining an established community that has rules.
@fbueckert because misunderstandings happen, and every single person here would never have got anywhere in life if they hadn't had a misunderstanding forgiven against them at some point
I think the important thing to bare in mind, everybody in this channel is going to be technically minded or be frequently surrounded by people with such a mindset
There are plenty of times I just wanted to post remarks such as "Words cannot describe how stupid this answer is" but I don't. I either leave a constructive remark, ro don't bother posting at all.
as somebody who spends a lot of time on IRC purely to laugh at the expense of others, I would love to post such comments against some of the people here but never have
@Strix No and yes, but my experience is from the beta and I'm not entirely sure if it's still relevant re: point #1. I know for sure that the answer is yes to your second question.
@StrixVaria I will after I finish my game detox, I have more games than I have time for atm so I'm trying to systematically complete all of the short ones so I can set fire to them
Your argument is based purely on speculation. If Disintegrate does indeed show larger numbers (something I'm not entirely convinced of yet), it's more likely due to something completely different. I could for example speculate that maybe Disintegrate can hit large enemies twice on it's way through similar to how Elemental Arrow used to work. — MatsT57 mins ago
I am seriously considering getting The Secret World, but I want clarification on some of the implications of some skill mechanics before making my decision.
Is it possible to 'respec'? Essentially, if I start going down the pistol tree and don't like it, can I move my spent points over to the s...
By default, how many character slots do you get in The Secret World with the various purchasing options? One option has "+1 character slot" as a perk, which made me wonder about the default case.
I have pretty much written off Blizzard at this point in time after SC2 and D3 releases. I will see what Titan is but I do not hold out much hope. A RL Auction House will make it an off limits thing to me
@pixel Didn't many former Blizzard North fellows quit enmasse over a dispute over company teams and development with Venendi and Form Flagship Studios?
Yeah Vivendi owned Blizzard since 1998 and the Activision merger didnt happen until 2008. So Blizzard was there for 10 years before they merged with Activision
And Y'All wish me luck I hope! Interview with Double Helix games on Monday.. Hopefully time to move back into video game development.. Business software is just not for me
Wasn't particularly impressed with that one. The other 2, you initially get a choice of things at least. Dragon intro, they knock you unconscious, kidnap you, then... yeah.
The biggest problem I have with the game is I can not buy it over a secure connection. I have to enter all my information over a normal HTTP request :/
@Shinrai But .. little birdy!!! haha, I am a sucker for things like that so I think I will get atleast that one.
@LessPop_MoreFizz I've had a couple friends try to get it through paypal and they had some problems with their banks declining and stuff. :( Took one of them like a week and a half to get a purchase finally worked out.
I used to play most of my games with Heat Seekers, Multiple Missiles and Unguided Bombs. After the update, however, some of the planes I had such a custom loadout for lost MMs, only having HSM and UG. Saving a custom loadout with MMs and UGs for this plane only gives UGs, not MMs. I suspect it is...
Endless Space has 5 hero types: Pilot, Commander, Corporate, Industry, and Adventurer.
Which hero abilities are exclusive to which types? Is there a graphic somewhere of the full ability dependency chart? (That is to say, a graph denoting which abilities are unlocked by which prerequisites?)
@LessPopMoreFizz @FAE @Shinrai Snagged it via Amazon Download. I feel a bit safer (identity theft sucks I do not want to go through it again just for the paper work you have to go through for years afterwards proving you are you)
@James Yeah, no worries there. Doesn't matter where you get it at all, really. (I've even heard of people in the EU buying it off Origin because it's significantly cheaper but then never installing Origin...works fine with the Funcom installer, lol)
