I laughed a lot at the sodium joke. @snailboat Thank you very much.

@Martin I bet it's because of @santiago.

I don't get the reference

I think his lolliment has affected us all.

You have to admit, he is fun to hang around

Yeah. He's a phun guy. And I didn't come up with anything that solves the correction issue about the tag name.

6:12 PM
Nevermind, that is a topic for other times
That would probably require a chat session with the active chem users

Yeah. Right now it seems like doing a homework that I don't like to do.
Which makes me not so productive about reaching an aqueous solution.

the more I think about, the more I think just extending the scope will do the trick
haha...
aqueous solution
a classic

Q: Are diamond berries possible?

Sam WashburnDiamonds are carbon. Plants take in CO2 and use the carbon. Chemically, could the right kind of plant have diamonds for berries, or is there some other limiting factor?

you know.... alcohol is not a solution except when it is

Oh really?!
I thought it was a solution when it wasn't.
@Martin A question:
Should I learn TeX?

6:17 PM
There is a popular saying: 'Alcohol is not the solution.'
@MARamezani YES

So, should I use emacs or Vim?

And look at the markdown, there is more markdown than I would use in a single post on the network.
@MARamezani That is like asking a christian, if you should be baptised.

Are you a christian?

Or an alcoholic if s/he wants another beer
@MARamezani I was raised that way, but I think religion is too complicated

So should I be baptised?
Hmm, Martin I'm frankly confused.

6:20 PM
That depends only on yourself: Do you want to be baptised?
Haha, I don't want to confuse you

What is TeXlive/MiKTeX? How do they differ from IDEs like Vim?

Please learn tex

To get the answer?

Hang on, I have a call, be back in a minute

K okay.

6:24 PM
Okay I am back

3 mins ago, by MARamezani
What is TeXlive/MiKTeX? How do they differ from IDEs like Vim?

I am not an expert on TeX just a user

ADG
@MARamezani I came here to say that neither Manish nor Google is correct in translating, it depends on what your local people understand it's purpose. In my case it meant as a slang with the first word of "jandu balm" see here zanduayurveda.com/products/28/zandu-balm.php

So I don't know what's going on under the hood

@Martin What is TeXlive?
Do I have to have it to TeX?

ADG
6:26 PM
@MARamezani you're busy, read it at your own time, bye 11:56 studying group 15 (N,P,As,Sb,Bi)

TeX/LaTeX is the engine, that compiles your document, the basic core, you can see it like an operating system. You need it.

@ADG Bye.

@ADG byebye
@MARamezani Texlive is the standard distribution

@Martin So it's either in the form of a TeXlive thingy and/or MiKTeX?
Aha.
So after installing it I'll install Vim and start learning?

MikTex is as far as I know a distribution, that was optimised for windows operating systems
What operating system are you using? @MARamezani

6:29 PM
@Martin Had trouble downloading it. :(
@Martin Windows 8.

I guess you should get texniccenter.org
and miktex then
you might need some dependencies, but i am not sure
I am a linux guy

Wouldn't they "clash"?
I installed TeXlive already.

Okay, then you need to set it up
you probably find much better help at tex.se

@Martin Set it up?
I did something that was like the installation process.

Yes, how to use a proper editor and the binaries
texlive installs the program to compile tex, the binaries
you need to write your files

6:33 PM
I know.
How should I know if things would work?

basically you can do that with any editor, even the built-in notepad
I believe there is a how to on tex.se
that should tell you exactly what to do for windows

@Martin I've passed that part of tutorial learning HTML.

VIm and EMACS are input editors, linux users have their preferences
I can recommend texnic centre for windows, i used it a long time ago, it worked very well, it has a lot of shortcuts and help

K let's see.

you just need to configure the paths to the executables and it should work
tex is awesome, it makes writing a whole new dimension of fun

6:39 PM
I know. I love to write small and big and colorful.
I'm one of the guys who liked the ready environment of MS word,
especially when I saw HTML,
but I always felt some restriction to it.

Well, tex is back to the roots... you tell the program what to do and then it does it
there is no what you see is what you get
I have no experience, but the intermediate is lyx: lyx.org

@Martin Aha, so lyx makes TeX WYSIWYG?

I guess that's what it is, but you can still use the power of tex
you can still define own commands and stuff happening behind the wysiwyg
but i have not tried it

I'm now looking for the executables.

i am a purist when it comes to tex

6:46 PM
My C directory is a waste basket!

they should be somewhere in /texmf/bin
depending on where you installed texlive
or maybe texlive/<year>/bin/<os>
I am guessing here

Hmm...
Is latex.exe it?

that is latex, it gives you dvi output, that has to be converted to ps and/or pdf

@Martin It's something in /bin alright, named win32.
Full of exes.

look for pdftex

6:52 PM
I think that's it right?

you can make pdf directly

It's there.

depend on which profile you want to use

Profile?

most of the times pdftex is preferable for linking in the document

6:53 PM
I'm setting it up.
Let's see.
What is this?
> Enter the command line option, that causes the viewer to diplay the paragraph belonging to a given source line. Use the placeholders:
I don't get what it does.
Percent sign?

wow...
i really can't help you there

Isn't percent sign the comment thingy in LaTeX/TeX?

I don't know anything about windows
yes it is

Hmm, the following profiles will be created:
LaTeX to DVI

which editor?

6:58 PM
LaTeX to DVI to PDF

texnic?

@Martin yep.

okay... just let it do her magic

LaTeX to PDF
LaTeX to PS
Blah blah.
I think I'm good.

should wurk

7:00 PM
Thanks Martin for all the HALP!

7:19 PM
@MARamezani Whenever I can
Sorry, I was on meta right now (-.-)

Now all I need is to press f5 and get errors.

Haha... setting up a tex document is not easy

@Martin I wonder if filetype:tex works on google.

I remember my first tries... it was hard
probably

@Martin It's always hard.
It's damn programming we're talking about here. :}

7:30 PM
try some of the mwe on tex.se
they should work, let me find a simple one
that's harder than i thought

Hehe!

it is how you compose a mwe, but it's not a mwe itself
The tex community is very helpful...
that's how I came about to end up here

Hmm, compiling this:

@MARamezani I think, after you read all that and the references within, you should take a long rest ;) But you also kind of know what is going on.

> \documentclass{article}
\begin{document}
Alpha particles (named after and denoted by the first letter in the
Greek alphabet,\[\alpha\]) consist of two protons and two neutrons bound
together.
This means that an \[\alpha\] particle is a helium nucleus.
\end{document}
I get an error: There are no such files.

7:44 PM
That'll work
ohhh
did you safe the file?

Yeah. I saved it in desktop.

hmmm... I really don't know
It's not easy, the trouble shooting when not sitting in front of the pc

Wait. I saved it as .tex.
Should I save it as .pdf?

nope... the pdf is created by latex

So?

7:51 PM
you can try latex without install at overleaf: overleaf.com/blog/…
i am sorry, but i gotta sleep now... it's already five here O.O
more like -.- now

Bye!
I'll figure sth out.

Good luck
once you have set it up, it should work fine
see ya soon
