Hello!

3 hours later…
3:12 PM
@Caleb is learning lua a requirement to use awesome?

@Braiam To use? No not really, I used it for a couple years before learning Lua. To really customize it though you'll have to get your feet dirty. Changing up some default bindings and adding some window rules can be done just by imitating some lines of code, but if you really want to do something fancy understanding basic Lua is pretty much a given.
The good news is Lua is about the simplest (sane) language I've ever worked with.
Awesome is certainly a lot more fun once you wrap your head around the fact that the config is just code binding straight into the window manager's API.

It's a bit like knowing ELisp to use Emacs — you don't need to, but it's definitely worth learning.

@terdon
looks suspicious

Was thinking about that...

@Kusalananda glad it's not just me ;-)

@StephenKitt Not the usual format, or the usual topics. A new one?

@Kusalananda perhaps, or some variation on the theme

No explicit ranting. Just a bit odd.

10:18 PM
yes
Thanks @NapoleonWilson!

Sorry, but I can't see deleted messages now, I'm on mobile. Please flag for mod attention, mention you think it's our friend, and Michael or slm will handle it.

@terdon what mobile? I thought you were pretty anti Android and I can't imagine you being pro Apple..
but maybe the Android impression was inaccurate.

11:14 PM
@Seth it was, yes. I'm not anti Android. I can discuss its many flaws at length but will happily do the same with its
... Its benefits? Advantages?
Whatever the opposite of flaws is.

11:37 PM
@terdon "Strength"

11:55 PM
@Seth unfortunately there isn't any serious third option
I dislike Android but I use it because the competition is worse
@terdon this guy started ok but his questions are getting sillier by the minute

@Gilles I agree 100%.
I had hopes in Ubuntu Touch, but that seems to be mostly dead now too.
@terdon cool :)
