As other answers have mentioned, you can indeed overload operators (by definining special methods in the class you're writing, i.e., methods whose names start and end with two underscores). All the details are here.

@ΛεγίωνΜάμμαλϠΟΗʹ Well, it's all still Quake really.
They designed GoldSrc so that they could crank out HL1 as fast as they could, so they just piled the features they needed on Quake. They did a good job of redesigning and adding for Source, but the deepest parts are still Quake whether people realize it or not
The only reason why it's aged well at all is because they way overbuilt HL2.
But really, when you think about it, they've only really had to change the engine significantly in the physics engine (Portal, Dota 2), the lighting engine (Orange Box) or the AI (L4D).
The only thing of those that is really Quake-infested is the lighting engine, and I still don't know how they cranked out HDR + Phong shading in 3 years. I think they were already working on it for HL2 originally
