4:00 PM
@ArtOfCode They may not be sold for money.

That was a joke

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 so sell them for free
Does amazon let you do that?

Considering we can random bits from random.org for free
I'd hope it was a joke at least

@quartata Considering you need Internet for that
And every smart phone has an FM radio
Using an FM radio as an RNG is good

How exactly are you getting these bits?

4:02 PM
And I will give them away
@quartata I took a recording from a blank FM radio station.
It is essentially a noise.
I can obtain random numbers from that.

OK, so it's from atmospheric noise

I'm not sure why you're "giving them away" though if the point is as a proof of concept
I didn't know about the mobile FM chips though, that's kinda interesting

You need headphones for that.

?

4:07 PM
You need a headset for that.

For what?

For FM radio.
The headset will be used as an antenne.

If the phone has an FM chip built in surely I can get the audio from it at a software level

So, I take the dB's of each sample and put them in a file.
I take a small amount of samples and put into a Python array.
If the amount of samples is odd, I drop the last sample with samples.pop().
Then, I take one sample out of the array and compare with another sample (which exits the array, too).
If the first sample is louder than the second, then we get a 1 bit.
Else a 0 bit.

@TimmyD yeah thats what I figured. But the question is super vague.
Idk

4:18 PM
I am having a hard time googling this because the keywords give a lot of false positives. If I reference the same JavaScript file in five different user controls, and I add all five controls to the same page, is the script sent to the browser five times or one time?

hm
Idk JS but I'd guess all five?

What I do with the result? Give them away. :P See the Sandbox.
@quartata Finished telling the recipe.

Dose JS have threads?

You can execute stuff asynchronously, yes

4:20 PM
@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 Wasn't what I was asking but OK

Ask @Upgoat

@AshwinGupta No but it has these things called web workers that are close

Oh ok

@quartata So, do you want my not-so-fresh-baked 2-days-old FM radio random bits?

@Doorknob Yeah, I guess so. The major problem with that though is operators with arguments (motions). For example with 0dw you have to make sure that the mappings are restored when you hit w, not when you hit d. Otherwise, you'll end up moving forward when you shouldn't.

4:21 PM
You know you could have just literally taken the audio as a bit stream right

Maybe a better way would be to override all numbers?

Yeah Upgoat, Quart, Malty, and Conor know a lot of JS. Try one of them if you see them online today

@AshwinGupta Please don't say I know a "lot of JS." What JS I know is usually used to make fun of it because I hate it

Ok quartata
:P

Speaking of which

4:23 PM
NEW XKCD
The title btw, is Intervocalic Fortition

It's in the url when you hover

oh lol

Why did you link to the image? Just link to the actual xkcd next time
Now we don't get the caption

{} + "[0]" -> NaN

@AshwinGupta Three words: xkcd one boxes.

4:25 PM
Just an example that I will delete:

yeah but its not displayed inline then?

At least it's kinda accurate.

(Sorry, I randomed the most massive one)

Sure isn't a number all right

4:25 PM
better?

Yea... huh. I guess you get the caption that way but no title. Oh well.
The one boxer should get the title in there somehow

ok I promise this is the last one, but I REALLY need to post it because its hilarious:

The hidden caption is the best though.

Eh... so I do throw away the FM radio random bits?

in Tavern on the Meta on Meta Stack Exchange Chat, yesterday, by hichris123
Reading through the transcript of that room does not exactly give me hope for the future...
;_;

@Upgoat Could you please come to tje zyabinVI beta romm?

10/10 speeling

That's nice
(the error is because you're missing a paren btw)

ik

5:02 PM
You need rainbow parens!!

@Lynn YAAAAAY! Where can I get these rainbow parens? :D

Web server is returning an unknown error.
10 is cool.
There is an unknown connection issue between CloudFlare and the origin web server. As a result, the web page can not be displayed.
17 is cool, too.

Final thoughts? I'm about to post this to main meta.codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/2140/…

@Liam Put the link in a seperate message and I maybe will review it.
:P

Scared I'm linking you bad places?

Q: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

SandboxWhat is the Sandbox? This "Sandbox" is a place where Programming Puzzles & Code Golf (PPCG) users can get feedback on prospective challenges they wish to post to the main page. This is useful because writing a clear and fully specified challenge on the first try can be difficult. There is a much...

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

pajonkDisclaimer I'm rather new to the site, so don't be too harsh, please. Convert YYYYMM to MMMYY Basing on this SO question. Challenge is rather simple: given a date period in the format YYYYMM output it in the format MMMYY. Rules: The input will be a number or a string exactly 6 characters...

Also can someone upvote something of mine and downvote something else of mine
I want that 2016 rep

5:34 PM
@Liam Answer?
Upvote an answer?

Don't actually but no It would have had to be a question because they are worth 5 rep.

Accidentally upvoted and corrected my upvote of an answer XP

5:48 PM
@Liam What turned out to be the problem with the rust syntax highlighting? Does it just not work on meta?

@trichoplax yeah it seems that it just didn't work in the sandbox (so that probably goes for the whole meta as well)

@Quill do we need both babel-istanbul and istanbul?

@Liam Thanks for letting me know. It seems this was raised previously, so I've just added a comment to that meta post.
Now that meta no longer has MathJax, this bug still exists. Can anyone confirm whether syntax highlighting is switched on for meta? — trichoplax 1 min ago

@Upgoat istanbul was constantinople.

._.

:D

@mbomb007 No, it was not.
The city was, but the coverage tool wasn't.

dude
lighten up

^

It doesn't matter. You can't go back to Constantinople.

^^^

@Geobits ik it's been a long time gone

@mbomb007 Exactly :)

Does anyone have any objection to syntax highlighting on meta?
Not having it occasionally causes confusion for sandbox posts

Woohoo, Minibits got his cast off :D
5

6:33 PM
Now he has one very untanned arm.
5

Why are people starring that rather than the next one? The next one is both amusing and has less context...
@Geobits At least there's plenty of summer left for the tan to catch up... I broke my forearm as a child and when the cast came off it was half the thickness of my other forearm

Oh wow, how long was it on? His was on six weeks and hasn't (noticeably) shrunk.

@Geobits Mine wasn't much more than that - I really wasn't expecting a difference. I could still move it fine but it looked weird until it built back up again

Yea, he says his is a bit sore but otherwise okay. Shouldn't be long before it's back to normal.

For everyone who was having trouble installing Cheddar, I've put manual install instructions, if you have issues installing with that it's your fault.

6:46 PM
That's good. Hopefully back to normal in time to avoid missing out on being off school for summer
Now Lynn and minxomat both have antlers...

Quick question regarding golfing C#, when providing a method only answer, is it acceptable to also have using statements, or would this require a full class answer?

who came up with this logo. they need to be fired

Gnu knows

@trichoplax Not for me.

^

also only 3 checkboxes left on Cheddar!!

The lower half of FryAmTheEggman's avatar looks like antlers to me...

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you are referring to as a logo is, in fact, a GNU/logo, or as I've recently taken to calling it, a GNU+logo
2

wat

@Upgoat Do you mean you don't like the pun of using a gnu as the logo for GNU, or you don't think it's a good likeness of a gnu?

@RenderSettings you're back!

@RenderSettings Well played

@trichoplax both and it looks like its high ._.

VirtualBox, on Dad's computer, warns me when trying to allocate a VM 2 GB that more than 50% (4 GB) of its memory is used.
>_>

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 i'm always already back
@Upgoat oh man, have you never seen the GNU copypasta before?

6:58 PM
@Upgoat I don't mind the pun (as you might have guessed by now...) but I'm not fond of the particular picture. It does have an odd expression

@RenderSettings no but ive seen GNU copy and pasta
