3:00 AM
brb tracing

@ConorO'Brien that looks hilarious

It's a feature

@Dennis could you un-community-wiki this? It was kind of an accident

@ATaco what exactly do you need for an icon?

3:04 AM
Preferably a taco.
3
I'm not very good at design, hence I try to throw money at people who are

I mean do you need an .ico, or if I was to try and make on in my mac equivalent of paintbrush would you like it?

will draw for tf2 keys

Oh, .ico
TF2 keys I can provide, once I'm no-longer at work.

@ATaco can you convert to .ico yourself?

@MDXF Done. Btw, it's better to use flags for these things. All mods will be able to see it, and there will be a constant reminder in case nobody can do it immediately.

3:06 AM
@Dennis Oh, okay, thanks
Will do in the future

@DestructibleLemon Technically, but .ico usually has the advantage of multiple scales inbuilt. I'll also accept .svg.

@ATaco Question: do you want minmalist taco or goat-style taco

I'd say Minimalist, as much as I respect the Caprataco.

A goat-style taco is an eaten one...

@ATaco ;_;

3:07 AM
I don't know how to make.ico ;_;

@ATaco do you want lettuce? tomatoes? beans? in taco?

Most predominately should be beans/beef and lettuce, however Cheese and Tomato being visible are also nice.

Should I change my avatar to a pony?

prolly not

How come?

3:12 AM
because how is that md xf

and animated gifs don't work as avatars

also you posted a moving picture ^

@ConorO'Brien I can fix that ;)

oh? do tell

@ConorO'Brien with a userscript
@ATaco If you want you can make one, test with Oliver Ni's avatar

3:14 AM
I need to do some hacking to see if I can hide additional information in an avatar...

if stackexchange doesn't do any processing of the image (unlikely), you could always use the "hide secret text" method

@ATaco should it be fat taco, skinny taco, normal taco

@Downgoat I'd be happy with a Normal Taco.

@DestructibleLemon True

@ConorO'Brien No, that's a no go. It almost definitely does..

3:16 AM
no, it doesn't, if you upload by URL
e.g., mine's from google
yours is from imgur, so you prolly uploaded it

Ahah, That's good news. Because... We can insert arbitrary things in the get!
I wonder if we can postfix it with a #...
Probably not.

postfix what?

If an image with a src tag ends in #stuff.. that #stuff...is ignored in the get request, but we can play with it here.

@ATaco on scale of light-green to conor's dragon's green, how green should lettuce be

dragon green :3

3:19 AM
Actually, Conor's is a pretty good representation of a good Lettuce.

:O should I do avocado
nah to hard

Lettuce O'Brien.

I am quite the fan of Avocad.

@Downgoat didn't you already do

3:20 AM
@ASCII-only That was sarcastic, this is actually obfuscation
Plus I made those when I was 13

while True:print("you have struck mica!")
Dwarf fortress simulator

@MDXF -1 uses trigraphs, the "cop-out" obfuscation

halp lettuce hard to draw :(

@Downgoat ok will try to help

@ConorO'Brien 1 I only put it in there 'cause Jonathan Leffler suggested I do it and Jonathan Leffler is awesome. 2 they really do obfuscate code if used in the right ways

3:22 AM
right, but good obfuscation resists clarification. trigraphs are trivial to replace

@MDXF 2. No they don't, a trigraph is really easy to spot

@ASCII-only Not always
@ConorO'Brien Not always
Sometimes it can be hard to tell what's a trigraph and what isn't, especially when you combine with digraphs and normal text

it's a dictionary search-replace, of course its trivial

sometimes I think I wouldn't know how to make obfuscated code, and then I remember I make only obfuscated code

Well with a program, I guess. I meant to the eye

3:23 AM

@ConorO'Brien Even so I clearly wasn't trying to get people to win the IOCCC. I'd made a satirical guide and figured I'd back it up with a realistic one.

that's why I said "resists clarification". Most code but the simplest is already obfuscated "to the eye ".

If you ignore the trigraphs part, is it generally acceptable? :P

@ASCII-only 0/10 not from conor's dragon

brb making lettuce out of conors dragon

3:26 AM
@MDXF I mean, not really. Good obfuscation tricks a reader who scans the code. I can look at the code, see the two strings of x.. sequences. From that I know its a hex-encoded string, then I can guess that this string is what's encoded. The truly essential bits are small.
good obfuscation is code that looks like it ought to print "Hello, World!" but prints the numbers 1 to 100 instead

@ConorO'Brien It's not only a hex-encoded string

@ASCII-only That's just sad

@ASCII-only 0/10 dragon abuse

@MDXF sure it is. p++["...."] == ("...")[p++] is just inline string with character lookup

3:30 AM
@ConorO'Brien Well, when I was younger, I thought it was the best Hello World out there :P

this is true

I spend more time writing programming languages and code golf submissions nowadays

it's not a bad obfuscation, just not a very good one

Yeah

3:30 AM
I do like the fact you used complementing digraph/trigraph pairs

Thanks. That wasn't even my idea xD

that would be my dream if I were an egoist

Does anyone know if an ASM/C polyquine has ever been written?

notice the wings are mutilated

3:33 AM
'cause I kinda want to be the first one to do it. I'm close...

@ATaco question: what do you want tomato: lettuce ratio to be
I'm going with 1:3

That's a rather specific question.
But 1:3 sounds fine.

what happened to the olmec tacit language

@ASCII-only Whoa that's intense

@ATaco okay aded tomato and letuce and bean anything else?

3:46 AM

@ATaco what's your favorite color

@NewSandboxedPosts Thanks that was fast
Btw @all I still need some help with this

@MDXF Solving in GoL?

@ASCII-only Yeah, wouldn't it be pretty cool to print a GoL grid in the GoL?

3:52 AM
@MDXF GoL can't do filled circles though

@ASCII-only AFAWK
But that's right, some systems won't be able to do real circles

vtc unclear

@DestructibleLemon Thanks for the help :P

@MDXF No by can't I mean it can't

@ASCII-only Yeah I'm updating

3:55 AM
how about a shape where every point on the outside is a certain distance from the centre give or take some percent

Generic Question: what is your favorite color

how about that avodad

green it is

Chartreuse (US /ʃɑːrˈtruːz/, /ʃɑːrˈtruːs/ or RP /ʃɑːˈtrɜːz/; French pronunciation: [ʃaʁtʁøz]) is a color between yellow and green that was named because of its resemblance to the green color of one of the French liqueurs called green chartreuse, introduced in 1764. Similarly, chartreuse yellow is a yellow color mixed with a small amount of green that was named because of its resemblance to the color of one of the French liqueurs called yellow chartreuse, introduced in 1838. Yellow is perceived when the yellow-green cone receptors of the eye are proportionately more stimulated than that of the...

(Sorry) I was in the loo.

3:57 AM
When I say I like wet tacos I do not mean in that way >_<

@Downgoat green

@Downgoat Color<T>

@ASCII-only please no

@ASCII-only java.awt.Color or javafx.scene.toolkit.Color

also how about that apple green

4:01 AM
Green's a pretty neat colour tbh.

@Downgoat swt
*awt
wait i mean System.Drawing.Color

Question: is shit taco or decent taco ;_;
background color needs to be changed for sure

mmm, I thought it was gonna be normal taco
@Downgoat just shrink it more onto the taco

@DestructibleLemon :( is normal BLT taco no?
B = bean

@Downgoat I mean it looks kinda skinny

4:07 AM
Is good taco

@DestructibleLemon yes but did you know it has a 18% FMR

background colour not so bad

@Downgoat FMR?

Oh wow, that's a straight up taco right there.

@Downgoat taco have 18% female to male ratio?
or is it fetta:mayo ratio

4:12 AM
ok I took the taco to taco bell, now is fatter

Thicc Taco.
Is it possible to get one with a Transparent Background..?

@ATaco do you know what that means

@ATaco yeah, do you want that or svg?
(btw will take payment in 7 goat memes, please post: chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/1/sandbox)

@Downgoat SVG would be preferable, if you have one.

Thankyou sehr kindly.

oh shit tomtao is transpraent

@Downgoat uh oh

Fixed it.

@NewSandboxedPosts @MDXF Unless I'm completely misunderstanding what this post is about, it doesn't belong to the Sandbox for Proposed Challenges.

4:29 AM
@Dennis what about that other highly rated post that isn't a challenge!!1

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

PhiNotPiThis is not a challenge. I am using the sandbox to... sandbox stuff. My Progress I'm not anywhere near the completion of this, but I've got an attack plan. They key word here is "abstraction." If a problem seems too esoteric to solve (as in this whole challenge), just abstract it to the nex...

checkmate

I have no idea what you mean by checkmate here.

@MDXF I thought you almost finished the polyquine not just started

@DestructibleLemon I don't think I ever saw this (mainly because I never sort the sandbox by vote count), but it doesn't belong there either.

gtg g'night
CMC: given something like: 1+1)+(1+2, balance the parens

isn't this very much related to that brainflak challenge?

4:41 AM
hello people
please look at my challenge and make sure it is okay to post so i can post it in the morning: codegolf.meta.stackexchange.com/a/12569/47050

17 messages moved to Trash

what are the qualifications to make a discussion SO offtopic that it has to go to Trash?

@DestructibleLemon I've read it three times, but I still don't know what's going on there. 1. Did you ban someone from their own chat room? If so, undo this. 2. Why were you added as an RO in the first place?

@Dennis I did not ban them
I simply made them no longer room owner
in fact they asked me to kick them

4:57 AM
Oh, they still have write access. Nevermind.

Question: why was trash made gallery

@quintopia When people start posting YouTube videos that ridicule public figures, it's usually a clear sign that the conversation isn't going places.

so it's just a subjective assessment of whether it's devolving into something not ... stackexchangey enough? i guess?

Of course it's subjective. That's why moderators and room owners exist.

@MDXF close?

the first f is silent

I pronounce it as "cov-fay-fay"

@Mendeleev +1 for pronouncing only good way

challenge: covfefify a string

7:27 AM
how

@DJMcMayhem Yeah, that's the main algorithm for Stirling numbers of the second kind. Even with storing the results in a list or in a dict, it takes ages for something like n = 10000, which is about the upper limit of what I've been able to calculate to.

@ASCII-only take up to the ending of the first syllable
so, what I mean is, go up to the first vowelgroup, and take the consonant after that

Also, if you want to decide on the hidden numbers to test my challenge on, we can discuss it on Discord. I've PM'd you already

take the voiced or voiceless version (v to f and fice fersa)
take the next vowel
shove em together, repeat them twice, and add to first syllable
if there is no voiced/voiceless version, just use the character itself
example: example: exxaxa
byte -> bytdede
any issues with this challenge?

7:55 AM
how should I treat y?

@DestructibleLemon as a vowel

are you sure?

idk

Mush, new main posts!

Q: Covfefify a string

Destructible LemonIn this challenge, you must take a string matching the regex ^[a-z]+$ or ^[A-Z]+$, or ^[A-Z][a-z]+$ or whatever is reasonable, (you may assume the string is long enough for all the operations), and output another string, produced similarly to word at the end of a recent dadaist tweet by the POTUS...

town of salem is getting an expansion!

Where did golfscript go? No one ever golfs with it anymore

@BetaDecay not golfy enough :P
With all the SBCS golflangs

Yeah... Weird how that turned out xD

@BetaDecay Weird?

Does SBCS mean Stack-Based ColeSlaw?

@Sherlock9 Yes how did you know

8:44 AM
XD Just guessing
Coleslaw because it's a mess of characters, yes?

@Sherlock9 No, it's single byte character set :P

Ah dang. You got my hopes up XD
Fair enough
Stack-based coleslaw does fit Actually quite well. Or rather, it Actually fits in a lot of cases haha

@ASCII-only Yeah, a few years ago it was Golfscript, Pyth and CJam dominating the challenges but now various different languages are winning with tiny programs

Jelly and 05A1BE come to mind

SBCS:Stack Based Code-golf Stuff

8:47 AM
I was gonna say 05A1BE but I couldn't remember exactly what its name was

@BetaDecay Jelly and 05AB1E
@SIGSEGV Charcoal isn't stack based

@ASCII-only meh whatever
I am recently making the language 'Periodic'
All atoms on the Periodic table, are commands/flags/constants

Nice haha. Does it update when element names are changed/added?

Maybe
The name would kinda relate to the function
For example:
Iodine: I(Input)

You could define a function by building a molecule. Say, CH3CH2CH2Cl would multiply two numbers together or something

8:53 AM
Random = radium? radon?

Silicon:Si(Sine function)

@BetaDecay Whay two numbers though

@ASCII-only I think Radium would fit

@ASCII-only I dunno, I chose a random task

"radon" sounds more like "random" than "radium" imo

8:54 AM
@SIGSEGV Cobalt:Co (cosine)
Tantalum:Ta (Tangent)

ah ninja'd

This language is getting shape quickly
Wow

What would Oganesson do

convert degrees to radians?

Hmm

8:55 AM
@SIGSEGV Will there be overloading or not?

@BetaDecay IDK, I think lanthanides and actinides could be used for new functions

Q: SAS definition of a new data set including specific variables

user70043I am just starting with data analysis - therefore i have to ask for your help as i am struggling with some problems. Let's say that i have a data set in excel, which contains following columns: id group salary 1 1 10 2 1 15 3 2 45 4 2 78 Using SAS EG i would like to create a new d...

Oxygen is output right?

Phosphorus for Print

@SIGSEGV Nah, there's all sorts of two letter digraphs that haven't been used, that you can use for new functions.

8:58 AM
what should Fr francium be?
@Sherlock9 unrealistic

Fluorine = Fibonacci

118 elements vs 702 different digraphs
@DestructibleLemon You need all the 118 elements that exist for the built-ins, as is

the 118 elements is what we're talking about

@DestructibleLemon Fr: Plays French National Anthem

I think you need to focus on essential control flow first
and also whether impossible molecules are allowed

8:59 AM
Americium: plays US anthem (Star Spangled Banner)

@EriktheOutgolfer no
it should launch smokedetector

@DestructibleLemon smokedetector can only be managed by users which have very specific privileges on it for a reason

@EriktheOutgolfer shhh

@DestructibleLemon Freeze (I cant think of the behaviour)

@DestructibleLemon maybe join charcoal hq instead

9:04 AM
so, how do you build a moecule
also the program should be an iupac name.

I got an idea
how about making each command be char (atomic number - 1)? ()
or each element for that matter

@DestructibleLemon hell no

why not?
its the logical way
because that way you can tell the structure
@EriktheOutgolfer what's the point of it being periodic then

Meh

Every program has to be a molecule found on chemspider otherwise the program falls apart and the interpreter throws an error

9:07 AM
I had another esolang idea: chinese

@BetaDecay no that's dumb

@DestructibleLemon e.g. instead of Dy (element 66) write A (char 66 - 1 = 65)
maybe command-line flag or something

@EriktheOutgolfer Yes like Charcoal

@EriktheOutgolfer you should make a code page like that then

@EriktheOutgolfer Too golfy :P

9:09 AM
@DestructibleLemon why? we should assume Unicode, since elements can be continuously added to the periodic table

@EriktheOutgolfer theres no point of being periodic then, it would clearly not go well

1 min ago, by Erik the Outgolfer
maybe command-line flag or something
@ASCII-only opposite of charcoal, the flag will activate golfy mode

@EriktheOutgolfer Oh so ungolfy by default?

because what's the point of being periodic otherwise?

@EriktheOutgolfer IDK lol

9:12 AM
@EriktheOutgolfer Because it's a fun gimmick

Sb should be inverse function of next atom
Cause.. Antimony

I just discovered the sandbox viewer:

A: Introducing the PPCG Sandbox Viewer™

isaacgBug: Voting is cross-site request When I upvoted, Tampermonkey saw it as a cross-site request and flagged it. I'm not sure whether this a bug in the script or in SE, but I'll show it anyways:

That's an answer, but same difference. Anyhow, would it be possible to put a link to it in the Sandbox question? I wish I'd've heard about it earlier.
@Downgoat Can we put a link to the sandbox viewer from the sandbox?

Me and Erik were just taking about that

9:20 AM
@isaacg Wait I forgot this existed lol

I have intentionally disabled the Sandbox Viewer, it was too buggy for me. — Erik the Outgolfer 58 mins ago
I found that too

9:52 AM
Is it possible to have a recursive regex in Python?
I want to match balanced brackets, but I'm wondering if it's even possible

I don't think so

@Qwerp-Derp regex module :P

10:13 AM
also I passed 3000 rep
yay

@DestructibleLemon what how

I think it's deleted?

@betseg it is now

@Lembik btw, k^log(k) = e^(log(k)^2)

@EriktheOutgolfer Are you on a rep-cap streak?

Nicely done!

10:44 AM
@Dennis would you please be able to update the markdown post generator for Whitespace snippets to encode spaces like it currently does for tabs? SE currently mangles whitespace only lines in <pre> blocks (lines of literal spaces get trimmed)

oh whoops, I just found the TIO chat room
