@MartinEnder You could write it once and save it in your profile, then do something like a "Read-Raw" and "Write-Raw" cmdlet

Then how about this?

hm yeah

There is a reason that C braces are done like that you know

9:01 PM
too obvious that something's fishy :P

It's from ye olde K&R C when functions looked like this
float add(num1, num2)
float num1;
float num2;
{
  /* body */
}

@TimmyD I've got code for that on that SO question I once posted, but I could never be bothered to actually try it out... maybe I should do that some time...

9:07 PM
so... Minecraft is not free?

@Optimizer No
But it's well worth your money.

official website link?

You can play "cracked" versions of Minecraft without an account (Warning: Very illegal)

@DanTheMan don't support them please

9:08 PM
@DanTheMan Those are legally shady, please don't promote them

how do I quickly know all about minecraft?
modes etc..
what pattern make what tool etc etc

Use the wiki

@Optimizer $26.95

I have it bookmarked for quick access

Hey, does anybody else here play the game Town of Salem?

Anonymous
@Optimizer I didn't think it was possible to hate that movie any more. Thank you for increasing my hatred. I'll be a Sith Lord yet.

Wait what when did the summer sale start

Anonymous
9:12 PM
Today

@DanTheMan Played it a very very long time ago
@Mego OK phew, I didn't miss anything

@DanTheMan yeah, @CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ also

To be honest I don't know of any games I want though....

@Optimizer wtf

I looked at Town of Salem once, but couldn't figure out how to even start/join a game

9:13 PM
Oh, steam sale started... and as usual, the servers can't handle it...

Anonymous
And the documentation left much to be desired

I have a wishlist with over 300 games
I know what I want
But I don't have the money for it

that's where the sale comes in

omfg
portal 1 + 2 is 5 freaking bucks

@DanTheMan that's not how it works

you will sacrifice your wallet whether you like it or not

Steam, we need to talk about what "Free To Play" means

haha

9:14 PM
@quartata I can't buy a few hundred games even on sale

"Free To Play", has pricetag

@DanTheMan buy one buy them all

@Mego I thought the same thing...

buy them all

eyyy that game has been in my library for years

Oh hey, La-Mulana! I remember reading about that in Nintendo Power 6 years ago back when I actually got Nintendo Power
and of course Goat Simulator wound its way onto my recommendations since my friends keep spamming joke reviews about it
Actually, I'm kinda surprised @Upgoat has never mentioned that before

Anonymous
9:18 PM
What joke reviews? That game is incredibly fun

@Mego "10/10 goats" doesn't tell me a lot

Just buy all of the 50 cents or less games

Finally got to another place with Wi-Fi

Doesn't seem like anything I can't do with 20 minutes of typing console commands in GMod, to be honest

Anonymous
@quartata Sure it does. It tells you that the goats alone are worth a perfect score.

Victor Vran popped up in my queue - looks like all the crappy things from Van Helsing, one or two good things from PoE, and an undeserved price tag

@quartata The problem is that they're entirely undocumented

Spacechem is a dollar

@LegionMammal978 I'm actually incredibly knowledgeable about Source engine shit
It has come in handy exactly 0 times in my life
Just waiting for the day when I have to defuse a bomb with ent_fire

@quartata Maybe you'd be good at Speedrunning/TASing Source games?

Hell no
I mean I know a lot about how it works internally
Speedrunning is 5% knowing how it works internally and 95% cocaine

Anonymous
9:22 PM
The vast majority of speedrunners don't know why the glitches work, they just know how to do them

Yeah basically
Although there are some that discovered them and know how the game works really well. I respect those people
These days though I'm more interested in the weird stuff like A button challenge than speedruns though

Anonymous
Like Cosmo with the OoT WW from Gohma to Ganon

The A button challenge in SM64 is insane

What about TASing then?

@Mego I love that shit. If I wasn't so lazy I'd do some runs myself

9:24 PM
@quartata is good

@MartinEnder Yeah, gonna grab it

If I didn't hate the N64 controller so much, I'd do more N64 speedrun/challenge stuff

I'm rather ashamed that I haven't played it ever

9:25 PM
@quartata I have that in my library but didn't get very far. it's really tough but seems like a really good metroidvania game.
I played through Gunpoint the last two days. I can also definitely recommend that. Quite short, but very entertaining. (Although you can probably easily quadruple the total playtime if you explore all conversation and story branches and try to get all achievements.)

I have Gunpoint in my wishlist
You know what's a good game? TIS-100

that's because you have every game in your wishlist
@DanTheMan oh yes

@quartata Where do you learn such black magic

@LegionMammal978 Valve Developer Wiki, lots and lots of experimentation and from other folks on the Source SDK forums/SourceMod forums
VDW is actually good. It's missing docs for some things but for mapping stuff almost all entities are covered

There's one thing in my wishlist that no longer exists so now I can't take it off my wishlist

@quartata I loved Castle Crashers, but BBT pushed The Behemoth into one of my top video game companies

I need help with some standard terminology. Is there a stack for that? Requirement says to list all active directory groups that the user is a member of. Does that mean "directly" a member of, or does that mean "directly or indirectly a member of"?

It feels like it was just yesterday when Castle Crashers came out.... wait a second it was yesterday
@Rainbolt In the context of?

Hey, is The Witness worth $32?

@quartata Active directory?

9:41 PM
Hrm
You could ask on Programmers?

Anonymous
@DanTheMan Probably not

Seems like it might fit

Thanks. I'll look around before posting to see if it's appropriate
I guess you meant "in the context of" as in "I am writing a program that queries active directory"

No I figured you meant Active Directory but I wanted to be sure
If it was something more obscure you probably wouldn't get an answer there

Yea. Basically I just need to know if "is a member of" has a standard meaning among AD people.

Anonymous
9:45 PM
Have you considered asking whoever gave you the task?

that's crazy talk
Although seriously that's probably the better idea. They'll be able to give you a firm answer

@Mego I already have, actually

Anonymous
Was their answer firm?

Ooh Stanley Parable is 3 bucks, I might finally pick it up

Yes, the answer is firm. The boring task I have to do now is decide whether this is a fault on us or a fault on them or a shared fault.

9:46 PM
So it's come to this: "Make America White Again"

@DanTheMan It used to be $40, so 20% discount. I want it but can't afford it still.

@Mego Stanley Parable is amazing pick it up

It's good fun.... for a bit

It has 19 endings
19 * ~30 minutes
To me at least that's worth 3 bucks considering the quality

Additionally it's a bit challenging to get some of the endings, so there's added time in trying to get the endings

9:58 PM
True (especially the art ending xD)

@Bálint the actual language isn't much harder to understand than any simple stack based esolang. Understanding how to program in it is a different matter though...

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan goldeneye
for N64 iirc
:P

GoldenEye 007 is a first-person shooter video game developed by Rare and based on the 1995 James Bond film GoldenEye. It was exclusively released for the Nintendo 64 video game console in August 1997. The game features a single-player campaign in which players assume the role of British Secret Intelligence Service agent James Bond as he fights to prevent a criminal syndicate from using a satellite weapon against London to cause a global financial meltdown. The game also includes a split-screen multiplayer mode in which two, three, or four players can compete in different types of deathmatch games...

↑ How do I make my hex dumps look like Dennis’s?

11:18 PM
Ask him which hexdump he uses?
I usually use xxd.

@Lynn xxd
Comes with vim

Ahh. Gotcha

@Lynn xxd -g 1

Xxd comes with vi? I thought it was just a linux builtin.

So, this challenge is really weird/interesting.

11:21 PM
@Lynn What are you trying to compress? For moderately large strings, zopfli is usually the best choice.

Ah, I was seeing if I could work Bubblegum into my ridiculous Rube Goldberg answer
But it seems there’s a lot of overhead no matter which option I pick

Raw DEFLATE has a very small overhead, but it should still add a few bytes. Base encoding is out unless you use only printable ASCII and linefeeds.
You haven't used Foo or Wake yet, have you?
Foo should require nothing more than prepending a ".

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan Nope, comes with vim.
You might be thinking of od

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan Linux doesn't really have built-ins.
And yes, for some weird reason xxd seems to be packaged with vim. No clue why.
And here I was thinking that I never needed the vim package...

It's because it uses xxd for the hex dump stuff
I think vim -b and xxd share code internally

11:33 PM
@Dennis well, then what would you call ls?

Hm, I would have expected xxd to be a dependency then. Bundling them doesn't feel like the Linux way.

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan That's a GNU coreutil

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan It belongs to the coreutils package.

Oops I thought you said cd for some reason

@Dennis speaking of vim, I've been thinking about making a "vim interpreter" for TIO to make golfing in it more convenient. Is there any possibility of modifying the byte counter with a custom script? That way <esc> would say "1 keystroke" rather than "5 bytes"

11:37 PM
It doesn't say bytes, but characters. Counts in customized encodings are planned, but not yet implemented.

OK. Regardless, what would that end up looking like? Probably just some Javascript function I'm guessing?

Indeed.

Hello

OK cool. It should be fairly easy to write (really, I just need to remove stuff from V) so I'll let you know once I'm ready for a pull.

@R.Kap Hello

@R.Kap ?

11:49 PM
Yeah, I guess writing "Must of" is a lot easier than just writing "Must have"...

ಠ_ಠ must of is golfier

@Upgoat So "Must" is a type of "been a typo"?...

it's not. must of = 7 chars, must've = 7 chars
they're the same
