@RoryAlsop s, the handbrake on my girlfriends car keeps locking in place if we leave it standing for more than a couple of days. Only way to get it moving it to heat up the brake (keep the engine running or use a hair dryer). Been to two garages and asked them to look at it and they've both just gone "it looks fine"
@Liam This is pretty common. With my last Subaru, if I left the handbrake on fully while it was parked for more than a couple of days, the only way to drive off would be to rev hard and then dump the clutch to bang the brakes open :-)
Things that help: not puttin gthe handbrake on hard if the brakes are hot
(ie leave the brakes to cool a wee bit - like at race days, you use chocks, not handbrake)
Making sure that during the last few yards before you get to your parking space you use the brakes a couple of times to 'squeegee' off any excess water.
It could be that they handbrake is just pulling the pad onto the brake a bit hard, so you could try not putting it on as many notches. Leaving in gear is as effective in most cases anyway.
You should have seen how hard I had to bang to dislodge my Impreza brakes though - was a bit mad
@Liam I love how you asked this, I've spent two years working in the motor industry, I know loads about cars but ultimately it's all useless and I still pretty much think cars are just cars.
Every industry I've ever worked in has had in the job spec "experience in x industry essential" I never have any experience in the industry and it's never once been a problem.
Every industry thinks it's problems are special and unique and more ocmplicated than the others, their not, it's just moving data around
once you know the touch points you can forget all the "specialist" knowledge and it boils down to shuffling data
@Liam some interesting exceptions. 90% of my industry (infosec) I'd class as educated common sense. The rest is bloody difficult, and is akin to an art :-)
@RoryAlsop yes, but that's the industry you work in, not the industry the company works in. Like programming is complicated an you get better at it with experience, but that is transferable between finance as it is to travel or housing.
