Hello Base camp.
Sorry about a wrong tag creation. outdoors.stackexchange.com/questions/tagged/anima
a Typo caused it

8:53 AM
Morning y'all
I'm back form my holiday
@RoryAlsop @Aravona didn't SE release a statement a while ago basically saying Basically it's about how many QpD you get <fulls top>

9:11 AM
@Liam yeah thats what we were saying. Currently at4.9
Though I'm out of questions for now...

anybody know anything about cars?

@Liam - a fair bit :-)
Of course there is mechanics.SE for complicated questions

9:31 AM
@RoryAlsop s, the handbrake on my girlfriends car keeps locking in place if we leave it standing for more than a couple of days. Only way to get it moving it to heat up the brake (keep the engine running or use a hair dryer). Been to two garages and asked them to look at it and they've both just gone "it looks fine"

9:45 AM
@Liam This is pretty common. With my last Subaru, if I left the handbrake on fully while it was parked for more than a couple of days, the only way to drive off would be to rev hard and then dump the clutch to bang the brakes open :-)
Things that help: not puttin gthe handbrake on hard if the brakes are hot
(ie leave the brakes to cool a wee bit - like at race days, you use chocks, not handbrake)
Making sure that during the last few yards before you get to your parking space you use the brakes a couple of times to 'squeegee' off any excess water.
(just helps avoid oxide build up)

@RoryAlsop Cool, thanks rory. Thats good advice

It could be that they handbrake is just pulling the pad onto the brake a bit hard, so you could try not putting it on as many notches. Leaving in gear is as effective in most cases anyway.
You should have seen how hard I had to bang to dislodge my Impreza brakes though - was a bit mad

@RoryAlsop yeah I gave it some welly this am and it didn't move a muscle
eventually they release but it takes soem time
@RoryAlsop the hot brakes thing makes sense, it's a drum brake so I suppose as it cools it shrinks.

10:11 AM
@Liam I love how you asked this, I've spent two years working in the motor industry, I know loads about cars but ultimately it's all useless and I still pretty much think cars are just cars.

@Aravona lol
I work in a bank. Do I know anything about finance? nope :-)

Every industry I've ever worked in has had in the job spec "experience in x industry essential" I never have any experience in the industry and it's never once been a problem.
Every industry thinks it's problems are special and unique and more ocmplicated than the others, their not, it's just moving data around
once you know the touch points you can forget all the "specialist" knowledge and it boils down to shuffling data

10:38 AM
Lol @Liam so true
I didn't need to know about cars but I've learnt a lot about car maths...

10:54 AM
And @Liam is back!
The only time I jammed a handbrake, it was due to a car wash :D
Morning @Ara @Rory

morning
@Liam some interesting exceptions. 90% of my industry (infosec) I'd class as educated common sense. The rest is bloody difficult, and is akin to an art :-)

11:14 AM
just for reference
it doesn't really say anything extra
and the fix is amusing "hitting ... with a wrench"

@WedaPashi morning

@RoryAlsop yes, but that's the industry you work in, not the industry the company works in. Like programming is complicated an you get better at it with experience, but that is transferable between finance as it is to travel or housing.

@Liam yep - very true

That said finance is different. I think it's good for everyone to have a basic understanding of 3 ledger book keeping, etc.
@RoryAlsop yeah I did consider asking on that. Just thought I'd ask here first!

@Liam it baffles me. Well, no, the maths is dead easy, it's the terminology
accountants love to use words that mean something different in English

11:29 AM
@RoryAlsop yes they do!
LOL
TBF, that's coming from a programming point of view
Inventor of the word instanciating...
A quick google tells me it's actually nicked from philosophy of all places....

@Liam lol...

3 hours later…
3:05 PM
@Aravona I have had half an answer written for your question all day. I'll get it finished before I head off home

3:26 PM
@Liam the Life Paint one? Great :)

Ah, sod, busy, stupid Mondays :(
Sorry, ranting.
@liam: Wish I could upvote the comment twice or add a bounty to it. outdoors.stackexchange.com/q/10020/2303

3:40 PM
I'd not ever heard of Fred Bear

3:51 PM
@RoryAlsop Neither had I, seems some kind of archery geezer
It's pretty well documented if you google fred bear left hand
@Aravona yep, that one

4:03 PM
@Liam awesome :) basically I didn't wanna go spraying stuff with it at random.

2 hours later…
5:54 PM
@Aravona I will 100% answer that question tomorrow but if I don't leave the office soon Steph may kill me?! :)

6:35 PM
@Liam hah no problem
