psr
1:03 AM
@JimmyHoffa I'm working on the MEAN stack! (MUMPS, Enterprise web developer, Angular, Node). The EWD part of the stack actually works against Mongo without code change though.

3 hours later…
3:55 AM
@RobertHarvey you finally get it?

@Ampt Get what?

@RobertHarvey the motherboard

Got it all hooked up. I'm running it now.
It's hella fast, compared to my old box.

oooh you're 100% together?
hot damn

Yep, all done.
Easiest build I've ever done.

4:01 AM
good to hear it all went smoothly

Realized a few minutes ago that the copy of Windows I have is 32 bit.

ouch...
that's really bad

And my MSDN subscription has expired (work).

you're gonna be RAM starved

Still have twice as much as I did. :P

4:02 AM
how much is installed?
8 gigs?

Sixteen.

ouuucchh
hahaha
so whens the new copy coming?

Umm, well...

LOL
you can't be serious
3.5Gigs of usable ram out of 16?

The real question is how, not when.

4:05 AM
what version are you running?
7?

8.1 32 bit.

wait
pretty sure the prod key on 8.1 isn't tied to the number of bits

So how do I switch it to 64 bits?

how did you install the first time?
you're going to have to re-install
but you can just grab the windows 8.1 64 bit installer and use your key

Are they both on the same disk?

4:07 AM
no
you can just download the installer from the web
oone sec, I'll grab the link
which edition?
pro or regular?

Hold on, lemme check.
Says pro.

ah ok
bam
found it
they hide it on you but that'll do what you want. you're going to have to donwload the whole thing (a few gigs)

Is there any chance I already have this, and just installed it incorrectly?

It says you should have gotten two discs with the purchase
one should be 64 bit one 32 bit
but the link will work as well
if you only got one

OK, I'll give it a go. Thanks.

4:13 AM
does the dvd case have a second flap?
or are they stacked on top of eachother?
yeah you should have gotten two CDs... clearly labeled with each
you may have just missed it in the paperwork?
that's going to be way faster than downloading the whole thing

I downloaded it from MSDN, when I still had a subscription through work. If I thought it had a 64 bit version, I would have downloaded that, but this was supposed to be an all-in-one (or so I thought).
I'll try installing it again. If it still does the same thing, I'll download the new one.

ah ok... you downloaded the wrong one... but you should still have access to the link?
it would be a different version

No, not anymore.
It died about a week after I left work.

damn. that sucks.
I'm pretty sure that the key shouldn't be locked to the msdn download
like almost positive
it used to be that stuff like that was considered an OEM version and had a unique, special product key for just that vendor
they've long since moved away from that

It's downloading now.
This is where that extra 10 bucks per month for 50 mbps would have paid off.

4:19 AM
google fiber just needs to step their game up
roll out to everywhere

FIOS promised me TV for 30 bucks per month, but they never rolled it out.

verizon/att/all of those oligopolies promised a lot
they promised the govt they would roll out fiber to everyone
so we gave them Billions in tax-payers dollars
still waitin on that fiber though...

I have fiber... It just coasts on this 15mbps internet connection, that's all.

@RobertHarvey you don't have fiber then :P

'Course, its 3x faster than the DSL I used to have at the old place.

4:23 AM
you probably have fiber going to the box that provides your entire neighborhood..

Oh, I could have gotten 100 mbps if I wanted to pay the extra 20 bucks a month for it.

you can do that over coax as well
fiber is when you start hitting the 500Mb - 1Gb range
we have 60 meg over coax

I got three install codes from MSDN before I left. Only one of them worked in the install.
But they're notoriously difficult to write down. I could have made a couple of transcription errors.
@Ampt The ASRock motherboard comes with a bunch of drivers. Should I install them? It works without them (except for the LAN interface).
I don't think I could program 8 hours straight each day. -- You just lack the proper motivation. Late nights when it's quiet, a good idea, and copious amounts of caffeine. — Robert Harvey 8 secs ago
Also, I'm considering running OSX in a virtual machine, but I can also set aside a partition on the SSD for it.
Haven't decided yet.

1 hour later…
6:00 AM
@Ampt OK, I'm on 64 bit.
Thanks, man. You saved me quite a bit of cash there.

6:39 AM
It's quite an interesting sensation to have a computer do things instantly that took awhile before.
Like typing a search query into Google, for example.
Or opening a web page.

5 hours later…
11:51 AM
@RobertHarvey after a month if you ever go back you will be very annoyed at how slow it goes
even though you dealt with it for years

5 hours later…
4:42 PM
@RobertHarvey No problem! Glad I could help.
@RobertHarvey yes. alternatively, get the most up to date ones on their website
also: ninite.com <- handy link for installing a ton of stuff you want from the get-go, without having to go through each installer one at a time. it also automatically declines installing toolbars and other junk.

5:13 PM
having a bit of fun with plots

Q: How do I draw a pair of buttocks?

Simpleton JackI'm trying to develop a function which 3D plot would have a buttocks like shape. Several days of searching the web and a dozen my of own attempts to solve the issue have brought nothing but two pitiful formulas below. They have some resemblance to the shape I want, though not quite. Could you...
