just came back from Nikko - a town in the northern Japan famous for its mountainous landscapes and mind blowing temples.
we've had a rare chance to see what's inside a pagoda
they are masterpieces of engineering. Very complex yet beautiful with elaborate ornaments on any surface, even when no human eye is going to see it ever again
pagodas are famously strong against earthquakes. The pagoda we saw yesterday withstand the big quake in 3.11 - it is in the same region and massive stone walls were loosened and moved by the quake, with all buildings intact.
yeah even our news has picked up on the storm over nyc at the moment.
they had an interview with nyc's mayor. What was funny about it was that he had this guy doing sign language, which bore no resemblance to any sign language I've ever seen.
Not that I am an expert, but the thought of this guy just making random gestures was amusing
