@nhinkle - you know its bad when one of their programming languages i called MUMPS

@PeteH my glucose meter can be connected to a PC but it requires an expensive, proprietary cable and expensive, proprietary software
So, I've never done it.
My constant glucose monitor came with software and was standard micro-USB. I haven't been using it lately because the sensors aren't covered under insurance, but if/when I do start using it again I'll probably get into some data analysis.

im sure with fitbit and all these other things they'll eventually connect to your phone

3:46 PM
I have a GPS gizmo for my Nikon which also uses a proprietary cable. The companies shoot themselves in the foot, really, because you just become biased against them for trying to lock you in.
Mrs PeteH's fitbit has some kind of magnetic dock through which she can both charge and transfer data. My Vivofit (the Garmin equiv) will talk to the pc via ant+, but will also talk to my Android phone.

Q: Incorrect number of clicks on SRAM MRX gear shifter

AndrewI purchased a bike with a "7 gear" SRAM MRX 200-70 gear shifter. However, the SRAM gear shifter only clicks 6 time (corresponding to 6 gear changes). Is the SRAM gear shifter faulty, and in need of replacement? Or can I make an adjustment to access the 7th gear? Note: when the cable is comple...

@Batman you have the patience of a saint to answer that one. I couldn't stop laughing. Not even a poor question, just incredibly dumb
(I realise that's a bit unkind. The guy is a noob so deserves some slack. But I didn't comment or downvote...)

I guess the clicks is obvious, but those grip shifts do confuse people
esp since the low end ones are left friction normally
The clciks aren't entirely obvious though. I'm not sure he realizes the shifter is not sitting at a click, but between clicks as well. =)
i like to assume the best out of people though

There's another funny question on there today......strikes me as strange that someone will be doing 400km rides without without much idea about nutrition. And asking whether he actually needs food. I'd expect that kind of question from a noob asking about a 40km ride, but 400km is a very long distance.
Some questions just seem....I don't know....out of place

yeah.
that being said, i was having lunch with a friend today
and his sister woudl like to get into road biking
and would like to start with a 50 miler or century
from her spin class

wow.....spinning is very different.
I think I did a 50km ride as one of the first when I got my forst road bike. But I was no good for the rest of the day

yeah.
we'll see how she likes it once she buys a bike first
also, ive spent 160 dollars on bike parts since new year's
i'm not sure how i feel about that

well at least she can ask you for advice. It can be difficult for women and road bikes, there is surprisingly little selection out there

yeah.

8:00 PM
The woman who used to be my project manager, she was into her tri's and was continually asking me for advice
she ended up getting a mans' bike, but she was around 6 foot
really tall, but all in the legs
seem to remember she had a problem with clipless too, just hated the idea
I lent her some aero bars I'd bought too, just to try out. Which, basically, was the same rerason I'd bought them
It was quite funny, she used to talk to me as though I was some kind of guru, and I was very flattered but couldn't help thinking she'd leave me for dead in a ride. She was one of these naturally fit people, whereas I am very much unnaturally fit!
Ans anyone who goes in for triathlons......respect
Last winter in the gym, I used to "sprint spin" at 140rpm for about a minute, but it didn't do me any good when I got back on the bike in the spring
(I'd basically hop on the bike and do interval training for about an hour)

8:43 PM
I've found the road feel on the fluid trainer is not bad thoguh. in some ways its more resistive since you have to keep pedaling vs coasting, but while pedaling it feels relatively real

Yeah, the gym bike was totally unrealistic. I wonder if I could make it more realistic but upping the resistance......not sure. I have a Tacx mag trainer in the garage that I keep meaning to set up, but (a) we don't really have the space to leave it set up, and (b) it is less effort to get off my backside and take my bike out for a "real" ride
So, right now, I do nothing :(

]yeah. its warm out today but theres enough residual snow and ice and rain that a long ride outside is not fun
and the studded tires on my mountain bike have wayyyyy too much rolling resistance

I must admit I've seen plenty of people out this weekend, and I'm thinking "that should be me", but I'm sitting there in a sweater, thick coat, gloves even, feeling frozen! It just feels too cold at the moment.

heh.

9:00 PM
I do wonder if it is "me". In previous Januaries I've made a point of going out at least once in bibshorts. This year I simply haven't been out - even with my thermals in the wardrobe, the prospect is just too....chilling.

9:12 PM
Mate just sent me this on Facebook....classic - facebook.com/…
