Why has the whole world gone disc crazy.
Anyone know of a nice CX frame for cantilever brakes?

like for racing or like commuting (where surly crosscheck/soma double cross/etc. would work)?
Trek's cross bikes still have cant's as an option if you buy the framesets. Same with specialized crux. I've seen some ridley's around here which are new and still have canti's but i don't know if they're sold as framesets. Ritchey seems to have one as well.
but cross bikes aren't my expertise.
but moving non disc bike sseems to be kinda hard now
velonews.competitor.com/2013/02/news/cyclocross/… makes a pretty good case for it though

I'm looking to build a nice adventure bike. All day out, road and trails.
The Ritchey SwissCross looks really nice, that's the only one I've liked so far.
But a little pricey.
A road bike with loads of tire clearance is another option.
I'm looking to avoid discs as I'd like to fly it around a lot. Discs strike me as a faf for that.
And I did look at the surly's but they seem a touch heavy, again, for flying
Ooo, facebook's broken, that doesn't happen often
I'd also like to avoid the larger manufaturers, mostly out of vanity, but I like to think it makes difference to someone that way too.

That Moots bike looks good. Expensive though.
I live near a moot, btw

3:11 PM
Why not something like a trek 520 or something to start?
Surly makes the traveler's check and sutff (ss couplers)

@alex - The Mook is retailing in the UK for 4000GBP - reckon that would make a difference to someone ;-)
Do you get that significantly cheaper out east?
I follow Bauke Mollema on FB, he's just posted a bunch of photos of his team bike. Very impressive. Trek Emonda. Can't beat a bit of bike porn

I'd guess it'd be more expensive, not cheaper.

@Rilakkuma we had an earthquake today!! bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-31009707 However I am only 25km from Winchester, and didn't even notice

@PeteH A 2.9? I don't think that would even make the news here in California...

@freiheit aw, man, go ahead and kill the party. 2.9 sounds like a lot to me

I've slept through bigger earthquakes than that.
(There's a reason that California has a reputation for earthquakes...)

@freiheit Superman?

The Ring of Fire is an area where a large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur in the basin of the Pacific Ocean. In a 40,000 km (25,000 mi) horseshoe shape, it is associated with a nearly continuous series of oceanic trenches, volcanic arcs, and volcanic belts and/or plate movements. It has 452 volcanoes and is home to over 75% of the world's active and dormant volcanoes. It is sometimes called the circum-Pacific belt. About 90% of the world's earthquakes and 81% of the world's largest earthquakes occur along the Ring of Fire. The next most seismically active region (5–6% of ...
The San Andreas Fault is a continental transform fault that extends roughly 810 miles (1,300 km) through California. It forms the tectonic boundary between the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate, and its motion is right-lateral strike-slip (horizontal). The fault divides into three segments, each with different characteristics, and a different degree of earthquake risk. Although the most significant (Southern) segment only dates back about 5 million years, the oldest sections were formed by the subduction of a spreading ridge about 30 million years ago. The fault was first identified in...

@freiheit When you get home insurance, does it cover you for quake damage? I tjink in our policies there are exclusions for "acts of god" (of which this would be one)

Earthquake insurance isn't like fire insurance. It seems the same for you(your house is destroyed and the insurance company gives you money), but for the insurance company it's suddenly a whole giant area.. The insurance companies need to use their "omg everybody's making a claim at once" insurance, and basically it hits the whole insurance industry.

interesting article @freiheit
