Then there's still hope. :-)

psr
Am I actually the only person present who can't see deleted posts?

user41796
@psr Yeah, pretty much. Sorry about that.

user41796
MetaFight's icon is faded, and the rest are even more faded.

psr
It's like I've been heck-banned.

Oh! @AshleyNunn is here! Any recommendations on fun DnD characters?

psr
8:02 PM
@Ampt Which edition? What kind of campaign?

user41796
@psr nah, we have a habit of quickly nuking off items that may have a personal note to them

@psr that's why I ran for mod on Workplace

between the DM and other players who's warnings I ignored, my character is all but useless as they've house-rule nerfed or straight up ignored diplomacy rules
@psr 3.5
not sure about the campaign

user41796
@enderland we did give you a fair amount of grief over not seeing removed messages..

sounds like a destroy the world campaign

user15026
8:02 PM
@Ampt Depends a lot on what you consider fun. I mean I just like being ridiculous and hitting things with sticks so I played a Barbarian Dwarf and she was my favourite

psr
@Ampt Diplomancy is often nerfed.

user15026
Also, @GlenH7, I think my sick day went well, but it as always remains to be seen, and since it took a long time to get a job when I didn't have one, I am not holding my breath or anything.

I still can't believe poor ampt only recently was able to see things... he's always around

user41796
What can we say? We're cruel. And a bad influence.

plus you never know when coworkers will find your SE profile and stalk you right? :|

user41796
8:04 PM
@enderland precisely

cough not sure what you mean about that

though finding chat is really hard if you aren't used to SE

psr
@Ampt All the books allowed, or just core, or what?
@Ampt And how power-gamed up are the other characters?

ummm core + a few chosen books, if I can argue for a book, it can be included
moderately so
no 1 hitting everything, but maybe every 4th enemy is 1 hit

user15026
@ampt True, but I am very cynical now which doesn't help ;)

8:19 PM
That's a side effect of this room, yes :)

user41796
@AshleyNunn I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. And there's a good measure of truth in what Ampt said.

user15026
@GlenH7 I am definitely hoping. I think I did well enough, but it is so hard to predict these things.

user41796
Probably better not to dwell and just pretend to be patient about it.

user41796
Of course, I can never do that myself...

user15026
I figure I work 4-1am tonight so that will distract me kinda

user41796
8:23 PM
@RobertHarvey you can undelete comments now?!?

user41796
@AshleyNunn Oh blech

user15026
@GlenH7 It's the second time this week, and I will do it again on Saturday

user15026
I mean I am at home, so there is that, but yeah.

wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

user41796
Blech.

user41796
8:26 PM
Blech

user41796
Or maybe that's just leverage to make other magic happen

well it'd be a cool gig I think

user41796
@enderland cast the dice and roll with it.

psr
Wait, I can just read the comments before they're deleted if instead of working I stare at the chat feed like a dog at the dinner table stares at the floor!

:D

8:31 PM
@enderland that is good news then!

user41796
@psr TL;DR blah blah blah... :-)

user41796
(waits to get kicked by @enderland)

yeah exactly

psr
Hmm, firebug doesn't capture websockets. Grumble.

user41796
@psr Fiddler?

8:43 PM
Oh is that one of those fancy browser emulators for unit testing guis?

user41796
Yeah, that would be a bit of overkill

Realistically, you could probably hack out the code that edits the dom to removed
you'd have to do it every time you reloaded though

psr
@Ampt Greasemonkey script would work

I'm guessing it's just a json that comes back and tells it to delete the message

psr
If websocket stuff was recorded in Firebug like other traffic then you could just read the old traffic from the tool.

8:53 PM
can't you just detect changes to the dom?

user55340
That works too.

user55340
(He's not crazy(er than the rest of us)... and he's on the frequently in room top list)

user41796
@MichaelT This is true. Let's not do anything completely crazy though like adding @ampt to the room owner list.

@GlenH7 yeah, that guy is a real jerk. he's always arguing on questions

9:06 PM
someone should ban him
wait I could

Please! I might actually get some work done haha

user55340

delete votes you mean? though that seemed to have worked either way ;)

user55340
Ahh... wrong one... and oded got the other one: programmers.stackexchange.com/questions/257803/…

9:29 PM
just shoot me now

@MichaelT what site is this that just got oneboxed?
@whatsisname !

tomorrow is going to be rough

user55340
> define: dictionary

user55340
Noun: dictionary (plural dictionaries)
  1. A reference work with a list of words from one or more languages, normally ordered alphabetically and explaining each word's meaning and sometimes containing information on its etymology, usage, translations, and other data.
  2. But what other kind(s) of syntactic information should be included in Lexical Entries? Traditional dictionaries such as Hornby's (1974) Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary of Current English include not only categorial information in their entries, but also information about the range of Complements which a given item permits (this information is represented by the use of a number/letter code).
  3. By extension, any work that has a list of material organized alphabetically; e.g. biographical dictionary, encyclopedic dictionary.
Verb: dictionary (third-person singular simple present dictionaries, present participle dictionarying, simple past and past participle dictionaried)
  1. (transitive) To look up in a dictionary
  2. (transitive) To add to a dictionary
  3. (intransitive) To appear in a dictionary...

curiouser and curiouser

user55340
9:33 PM
Note, that it can produce rather large oneboxings.

@MichaelT yes, dependant on the versatility of the word of course, so.... (I can't help myself)
I don't always feel like a school child, but I am always like a school child.
to be sure, I'm kind of surprised it actually pulled something up there rather than just failing to resolve the onebox URL

am I the only one
that is annoyed by seemingly 99% of people's usage of the word "technology"

user55340
Its something I saw on MSE at one point - some chat rooms have problems with people spamming long / inappropriate texts there.

e.g. "Teacher has banned use of technology in their classroom"
Hmm, so are people now forbidden from taking medications prior to class? Can the building be constructed out of anything beyond dirt and sticks?
What about eyeglasses with high refractivity lenses?
Technology is not cell phones and facebook apps.
Ugh

@MichaelT unheard of!

user55340
9:46 PM
@whatsisname I hope not the printing press too...

@whatsisname Had a teacher like that in college. I'm pretty sure she was scared of radiation.

well the thing is noone actually means that kind of stuff when they say "Technology"
they mean "cell phones and facebook apps"
well, maybe not no one

Electronic devices not only couldn't be used, but they were supposed to be off.
She even scolded the international students for using digital dictionary/translators.

well if someone says "no electronic devices in my classroom", at least they're using the right terminology for what they actually mean

@MattS. let me explain something very simple: Radiation is scary. This message brought to you by The Hair Loss Foundation of Los Alamos
@whatsisname at which point they have to have someone climb up and take the battery out of the wall clock?

9:54 PM
Did you tell her how radioactive bananas are?

No. The less I interact with crazy the better.

psr
@MattS. And yet, here you are.

> I am completely new at coding and the supervisors are not helping at all.
Yeah, that's a recipe for success.

@RobertHarvey user gravatar is wrong: "I am abyss", should be "I am bleh"

Far from being an isolated case, this example is highly illustrative of the difficulty we encounter with people who ask perfectly plausible questions, but whom are not equipped to understand the answers we give them. — Robert Harvey ♦ 24 mins ago

yay oauth

i thought twitter oneboxed

two hours of coding and now instead of having to manually verify every character is actually owned by the forum user that is claiming it, I can just have them log in to Battle.Net and grab the list of characters from Blizzard :)

oooh
whatcha workin on

psr
@AJHenderson nice

user55340
10:41 PM
derp.institute - that is such an unfortunate name.

user55340
Derp may refer to: In Internet slang it may be used as a placeholder expression (dialog may be expressed as "you just got derped") or a response to a question, signifying stupidity. Derp, a hacker group Mr. Derp, a minor character in South Park Egmond aan Zee, a village in the Netherlands commonly referred to as Derp by locals. Drug Effectiveness Review Project == See also == Darp, a town in the Netherlands Derpy, a background character in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic...

OK. We really don't need a Wikipedia article for Derp. (self-effacing article is self-effacing).

user55340
@RobertHarvey There are so many derps though...

fingers crossed it will compile this time :S

@MichaelT In other news, people have been cogitating all day on Meta over the "assert stdio" question.

10:46 PM
@sled you and me both

user55340
@RobertHarvey I'm still going 'why?' - if the standard library doesn't work, you've got bigger problems. If you are rewriting the standard library, you should know how to do this.

Such an ill-advised question. Much time sink, forever sorry. I blame caching.
Also, derp.

That derp institute cannot possibly be real, it must be a joke
plz someone tell me it's a joke

Maybe derp is an appropriate name...

"for the betterment of the internet at large" says it all :p
