where is the functionality to show all of your open windows from all the workspaces at once? or even to show all the open windows in a workspace at once?

jrg
Super-W

by clicking on an icon in the launcher I can show all the open instances of that program in that workspace only... which is ok
@jrg, thank you , that worked... it is kind of a hidden feature.. no?

jrg
@JoshuaRobison not really.

how do I find more hidden keyboard commands like that?

jrg
it's more of a obscure feature - i wouldn't say hidden
are you on 12.04 or 11.10?

12:09 AM
12.04

jrg
press and hold the "Super" key to get a list

id also like to know the command to launch the 4 up workspace view

jrg
and that's super-s

@jrg, wow! i had no idea this was here
thank you so much . that helps tremendously

jrg
glad to help. :)

12:18 AM
im trying to do everything the unity way and get out of the way I used to do everything... so i dont want to do this if it is a hack or something like that but.... it would be nice to make the super w or super s work when I move my mouse to the corner of the screen

jrg
iirc, you can do that in ccsm.

right .. i could but...

jrg
i don't think it breaks anything, but let me look it up

but if it is a feature that canonical felt was not support worthy then they must have some idea of a better way to do it... which they are probably thinking is keyboard commands

jrg
I don't see the option any more, but i'm also probably looking in the wrong place

12:33 AM
hmm... ok thank you

1:04 AM
2buntu.com on a Kindle Touch in case anyone's curious:

jrg
@GeorgeEdison well thats not optimial

Do we still have that mobile front-end enabled?

jrg
it should be

Let me take a look then... since it would be a good idea to enable it for the Kindle browser.
Do we have access to the raw HTTP access logs?
(I might need the Kindle's user-agent string.)

jrg
can you reload it on your kindle?
i've got the logs open

1:10 AM
Sure.
One second while I bring it up.

jrg
"GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 9449 "http://2buntu.com/" "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux armv7l like Android; en-us) AppleWebKit/531.2+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0 Safari/533.2+ Kindle/3.0+"

Is it showing?
Ah, that's it alright.
Thanks.

jrg
@MarcoCeppi Ok, so you mentioned network issues a few weeks ago in precise.
Well, I'm now experiencing them as well
(the whole "can't access one machine from another")
@GeorgeEdison you're welcome. :)

@jrg: Please check this page.
It's still displaying the desktop site.

@jrg Disable IPv6

1:18 AM
Maybe it's the cache...

jrg
@MarcoCeppi Ok, time to figure out how to do that. :)
@GeorgeEdison its the cahce

@jrg do you have desktop access?

jrg
@MarcoCeppi yes, and shell.

We need to disable the cache for mobile users.

jrg
(and if need be, root. naturally)

1:19 AM
(Currently figuring out how to do that...)

@jrg Edit connections

jrg
oh, and then swap them there. gotcha

Just make sure Method is Ignore (typically Automatic) then reconnect

jrg
weird, that didn't do it for me.

There, fixed it!

jrg
1:22 AM
Yay!

@jrg try sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
brb

jrg
no luck. did a reboot as well.

StackTack needs some work:
Oh well, the rest of the site looks nice.

jrg
Oh, stacktack doesn't look that bad

It's too big.
But it is usable at least.

jrg
1:41 AM
weird... i don't like networking now. ;P

2:23 AM
Thanks @aking1012 and @ruffEdgz: You guys were great support :D
got my kolab server up and running \m/

Q: Ubuntu 12.04 Menu Bar overlap

myusuf3I have dual monitors for my development machine. I usually have my terminal open fullscreen in my secondary screen as my IDE(vim) and when I click on my primary screen I get this super ugly menu overlap on my terminal even though its in full screen. The terminal program I use have no menu bar...

anyone?

Great answer: No "show desktop" in launcher http://askubuntu.com/questions/126540/no-show-desktop-in-launcher/126546?atw=1#126546 #unity

@myusuf3 - What terminal emulator are you specifically using?
ETerm with the --hide option, gnome terminal, rxvt, XTERM, terminux, terminator, not-yo-mamas-terminal-app?

3:07 AM
i am using terminator
I think its a window thing though

Q: DualHead2Go and/or TripleHead2Go Xorg configuration

TK KocheranI just purchased a TripleHead2Go and configured it using OSX. What this box does is simply take 1-3 multiple external monitors and combine their signal into one single resolution. I'm using two external 1920x1080 displays with it, bringing my display size to 3940x1080, alongside my laptop's regul...

4:02 AM
Hello all

hi @AmithKK - ty for ditching that dirty copy of lenstoggle btw

Heya @aking1012
np :D

still have to correct some licensing conflicts and add some notes on the icon being CC, but it's functional

CC-BY-SA?
or just CC-BY?

i'ld have to check, but using the icon doesn't make it a derivative work. the work is the programming. the icon is just an icon. i didn't change it a bit.

4:09 AM
@GeorgeEdison Ping me when your around

either way, i have more pressing issues...some packaging things, a sector based news reader for stock analysis ppl, some stock filtering/localdb stuff, stackchat, and a couple other things

@AmithKK Here.

@GeorgeEdison You missed one feature on stack tack
A Community wiki Icon

Well... I kind of want to avoid images in StackTack at all.

or just a text badge

4:29 AM
That's a possibility.

hey @aking1012

@wisemonkey Hello

Hi @AmithKK

@wisemonkey hello, and np on whatever help i provided on the kolab thing. i'ld like to think that sometimes just asking questions(duckying) and asking if you got it working is helpful...i don't remember actually solving any problems though

@aking1012 even if not directly, u gave opinion which helped me think of a "search phrase" for google :D

4:36 AM
cool. as long as it's working now. that's what really matters right?

yup :)
need to work on reliability and availability (24x7) over next few days :)

speaking of availability, my tumblr is down :(

5:17 AM
hi @ajmitch

hello again

Can I annotate the screen in Gnome Shell? http://askubuntu.com/questions/129804/can-i-annotate-the-screen-in-gnome-shell?atw=1 #softwarerecommendation

@QuestionsFeed ccsm annotate plugin. never ceases to amaze how many ppl say i can't do this b/c i don't have 3d

Running Compiz with Gnome shell breaks Mutter
@aking1012 No

okay. it works for me.

LOL

Nothing like the review tab to depress you about Ubuntu's hardware compatibility...

5:39 AM
Yeah

@aking1012 Your Conky config. NOW

nice, what is the process list program your using

@Matthew htop

awesome.

5:45 AM
@AmithKK i don't use conky
@Matthew htop

htop+guake I'm guessing

@AmithKK negative, htop and screenlets. guake shows up on the left
i do use guake though

Me PhyskoGusta

so its ran in terminal, screenlets is awesome, I'm using that currently, make a nice transparent terminal on my background

@Matthew it is, but it's a default command so i don't have to run it
it looks like that on my normal desktop, i just had to say that annotate works in gnome3
note to the top edges lining up

5:53 AM
@aking1012 , very inspiring, I'll have to try that out sometime

cool. i was really just trying to point out that it works and that gnome 3 doesn't break with the annotate ccsm plugin...or any other plug-in for that matter...when you have it configured properly
i should calm down now...calming down...back in a bit

@aking1012 , it would make circling and pointing at things for screenshots a lot easier, I have been editing them

@aking1012 Give me a second

seconds up

6:03 AM
am waiting, show me a plugin that doesn't work for you that doesn't work for me and i'll be satisfied...otherwise, i'm pretty sure i'm right

@aking1012 Open It in gnome-shell
:P

open what?

compiz

i don't have to. ctl-alt-T works fine

@jrg yay nice! we just need to prepare materials for the session. And we have like 48 hours. :S

6:06 AM
@AmithKK you may have found a bug, but i focus on the solution...not the problem

@jokerdino Awesome!

yeah :P

i emailed you one earlier. Remember?

Oh right

lol not everyone would find it funny :p

@aking1012 You live in the US right?

@AmithKK yes, US EDT
er no

@aking1012 Don't do it, he's an FBI sting agent

@JacobJohanEdwards that i don't have a problem with...it's the what is your email, what is your phone, i do not want to use what you post on your website thing

6:25 AM
:P
le Agent

le joke

Communicaton *pjoke; pjoke = &joke; free(pjoke);

O.o
@jrg is yelling crap in the chatroom

pointer joke...if you don't get it, just let it go

And the after-punchline. The compiler won't catch that joke is now pointing to unallocated memory. Who knows what sort of malice (removed) will bring unto this chatroom henceforth.

6:31 AM
i thought that was the punchline

THEN WHO WAS PUNCHLINE?

I define both of you in the same category.
Someone who knows stuff and never afraid to show others that they know stuff.
that was a compliment, btw

@jokerdino C doesn't have interfaces or abstract classes, You have no syntactical prerogative to define us us such.
gcc: undefined reference 'interface'

point proven.

@jokerdino i took it that way

6:35 AM
Hey, I did the pretentious thing again!
Go me!
You can find my userpage and upvote buttons to the left!
gloats

no one is more pretentious than me. that i can assure.

oh no, i'm more pretentious. don't you even start

6:48 AM
anyone knows how i can change the mono xsp http port ? localhost:8084 is the default on my system and it shows a page with error

Night all.

7:28 AM
@GeorgeEdison Good night

8:20 AM
Now i very tired. Installing ubuntu on my Lenovo V570 keep show me this error message and back to boot selection.
I tied installing 12.04, 11.10 & 11.04

What downloaders are available for downloading Big size (over 1 GB) files on Ubuntu? http://askubuntu.com/questions/129854/what-downloaders-are-available-for-downloading-big-size-over-1-gb-files-on-ubu?atw=1 #softwarerecommendation

@Achu That's the PXE ROM starting... your PC is trying to boot over the network. That error is not part of Ubuntu.

8:42 AM
@NiekBergman Thank you for your replay. I thought the same thing and trying to fix for two days. but it's not! ubuntu installation can not be boot at all.
and the funny part is when i install Windows 7 it works without problem
is't that wired?

that is weird actually

Interesting
Everything OpenGL goes slow here
but cario rendering works fine :D

But what is patent thing?: "This product is covered by one or more of the follwoing patents..." part? do you know guys about that?

Intel's PXE ROM is covered by several patents. Nothing to worry about, just a disclaimer :-P
Kind of like a copyright statement.
If it goes into PXE boot, your boot medium is usually faulty.
Are you sure you properly burned the boot CD/DVD or properly set up your boot USB stick? :-)

wouldn't it be cleaner to just say 'Patent Protected. Details at patent.intel.com/pxe';? maybe it's just me

8:55 AM
@NiekBergman Oh.. yeah... i burn 5 CD and DVD's with different burning software. i spent two days on this.
The installation goes fine but no boot

Did you actually burn the .ISO as a disk image?
Or did you copy the .iso to the CD as file?
Oh, if installation goes fine, then it's something else...
Weird.

9:15 AM
The Terminal is your Friend! is the most prominent subsection of the "Getting Started" page of the Ubuntu Help Wiki. In unrelated news, I'm considering registering the name @2006UbuntuUser on twitter. #wow #itsgnulinux #failwhale
Then again, I often ask for terminal output in questions. #suddensenseofperspective

Can someone lock this guy up? Thanks. #hashtagforthewin

@JacobJohanEdwards You just hashtagged an AU-chat post with failwhale... :):|:/

and then

@Achu that's begging for a meme

9:24 AM
@aking1012 So it is

let's hunt for dupes.

Hi Guys
=)

@bhagyas Hello

I upgraded my 11.10 to 12.04 two days back
and now it doesnt display the splash screen when booting up

Yeah

9:25 AM
for an example, I have the disks encrypted, the unlock screen doesnt show up

Might be some bug

i have to press esc to get into console and then type in the disk unlock password
any idea on how to fix this?

@AmithKK LOL
Nice!!!!!
you got me :)

o.O

9:28 AM
@jokerdino I actually kind of like that one
don't encourage him...i know...i know

I got it .. I got it
:P

@jokerdino Is there a reason for the name jokerdino? Is it a reference? Just curious

yeah, there is a reason. but it is kinda lame now that i think about it
wow the formatting on that one looks weird.

@jokerdino You used to watch barney?

not really. i just know there is such a thing

9:37 AM
I used to

(by now, you all should know i am a pathetic blogger)

Hmm
12 days on my summer vacation and I'm still not a ubuntu member
I suck, Don't I?
@jokerdino Thats a pretty good explanation

yeah, yeah..
@AmithKK no comments :P

Q: Has there been any suggestion to encourage AU members to become Ubuntu Members?

bodhi.zazenI noticed there are a number of dedicated and helpful members on Ask Ubuntu. Has there been any suggestion to encourage such members to become Ubuntu Members as a recognition of their contributions here (similar to forums)? https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Membership https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Forums/Membe...

It is my choice
I'm just lazy
lol

9:44 AM
@AmithKK well, i tried my best. y'know

Yeah

Luis Alvarado and Rafael are the two latest Ubuntu members from Ask ubuntu.
@JacobJohanEdwards Curiosity just killed the dino.

@jokerdino \o/
Awesome!

done

9:59 AM
Wow, I had no idea Luis Alvarado was that hardcore. Don't know many people who've converted 300+ people to Ubuntu...

@JacobJohanEdwards Anyone who posts questions to AU for their friends and translates the answers back to their native language is sure to get a lot of conversions
it came up in chat once
If anyone has a better answer, feel free askubuntu.com/questions/129972/…

If anyone has nothing better to do, please help us - goo.gl/0mHSs
@AmithKK in you go ^

@jokerdino I'm there

alright, privileges switched so we can start improvising.

@jokerdino I'm just making suggestions. Feel free to disregard them.

10:12 AM
just to clarify, we haven't made a script yet. we need some basic stuff to work on.. :)
basic stuff like what to talk about and what content to emphasize on, etc.

10:25 AM
@jokerdino Look At the comment

@jokerdino If my grammatical/spelling corrections are getting on your nerves say just so, and I can stop. I'm just trying to make it a proper document.

@aking1012 Not at all

no, I am perfectly fine. But you can just jump in and edit it right away.

@jokerdino I tried earlier and it wasn't letting me. I'll try again

Refresh?

10:31 AM
@aking1012 Refresh

kk

@aking1012 Whats your email Id?
I'll add you with the Share Button

it's the aking1012.com gmail one
i'm not much on sharing though beyond sharing questions and answers on a targeted site. anything else feels spammy

@aking1012 done
@aking1012 ...?
I meant the share button on GDocs

@jacob are you somewhere there? you make valid points... in the comments. can you drop them somewhere in the document..

10:37 AM
@jokerdino sure

thanks
alright, i'll leave for a quick dinner. you guys are awesome!

10:51 AM

Which comment?

Waiting for cleanup weak :P

it makes sense in the context of the G+ thread you cited/deleted

Oh.
He's talking about this.

11:38 AM
Oh dear, it turned into Meme heaven here when Marco and I weren't around... you're like a bunch of kids. ;P

No. you are wrong.

jrg
@jokerdino Do we want screenshots of the stuff/features we're talking about?
also, do we want Epic Edit #{$NUMBER}?

do we? i don't know.
amith was suggesting screencasts. :S

jrg
no, screencasts won't work
at least not for open week

do we have a script yet?

11:40 AM
@jrg I only posted the 1...or so

jrg
@aking1012 I wasn't looking at you.
@jokerdino I don't think so, the GDoc isn't completed yet.

it isn't yeah :(

jrg
let's look at the logs from last cycle, just to get an idea

Good Idea @jrg

jrg
I actually kind of like what Marco did there.

11:42 AM
The 50 rep thing?

jrg
@MarcoCeppi Mind if we borrow heavily from last cycles open week session?

> To put it simply, Ask Ubuntu is an exclusive site for
> I like that edit. It expresses why AU is a lot more straightforward as QA instead of forum
@aking what happened there? I can't see that line at all.

@jokerdino The stackexchange part

assume people doesn't know what is stackexchange, stackoverflow, etc.
now i don't know who edited which part, etc. :D

@jokerdino That was @JacobJohanEdwards
@jokerdino Anonomising ia a bad idea

11:45 AM
ok, once we finalize the material, we go through them again.
