@cl-netbox -my- method would be to create an answer myself showing the (imo) more correct method. That also teaches -you- about that method. And at some point the TS will move the accepted vote to -my- answer- and not yours. And is a lot better then downvoting ;-)

FWIW I always recommend waiting at least an hour before replying to stuff that makes you upset. Otherwise you reply upset and things only get worse. Tip for next time.

Hey guys, brand new Ubuntu user here, trying to learn to manage my own projects like a proper developer. Was wondering if anyone had any favorite resources on how to learn how to use git from the CLI? I only have GUI git experience so I am essentially starting with 0 knowledge. Otherwise I will just Google it of course

@Seth How the GUI would talk to the server. So, XMPP was a no go, but it keeps you from running some custom socket server.

@kos It was a Trio brand tablet. Not sure of the model, just something I found in my friend's house since my phone battery was dead. It didn't even have Chrome, just the regular "Browser" app that manufacturers include.

Set-up Fail2Ban to prevent SSH bruteforcing, use a secure password, set-up two-factor authentication, set up security limits...

@HC_ People ask "How does one keep a computer safe" . Computer is a machine and it won't go around downloading something without your input. Security starts with people making proper choices

@TheBrownOne: But it can be useful to scan downloaded files with an AV. It can also be useful if you've looked at malicious images etc which have stayed in your cache, ClamAV often tells me about those.

It is more between your ears then anything else: dont go downloading random stuff. stick to the repositories and know locations (like launchpad)

@HC_: I would suggest you install clamav (and maybe clamtk if you don't want to use the command-line all the time to control it), and rkhunter (to protect against rootkits which are a real threat).

oh. we buy new hardware and then install Ubuntu onto it. So we have a 6.06, 8.04, 12.04 and 14.04 servers. The 10.04 one died ;-)
The 6.06, 8.04 servers are only used to store backups on to.
