@dn-ʞɔɐqɹW Oh my, this is not for me... :/

user136984
When something gets at least 3 downvotes it goes sort of greyed out, does it show like this for all users, or do only users with certain rep actually see that the answer is there?

@dn-ʞɔɐqɹW Cool though, thanks for the suggestion :)

user136984
@Serg: Was it you who said you might look into making a script for this by the way? :)

@ParanoidPanda oh, i've already forgotten about this :) Thanks for reminding
So you want it in TTY only right ? . . . because in GUI . . .you can just use regular pdf readers

user136984
@Serg: Yeah, that's right, CLI only.

5:15 PM
@ParanoidPanda OK . . . I'll put together little something, show you later
Well . . . . like couple days later. . . right now need to take care of my homework and stuff

user136984
@Serg: Sounds good! Thanks! :)

user139252
@Zacharee1 You might want see if you can transfer your domain to my CloudFlare account.

user139252
That, or you can provide me with your CloudFlare API key

kos
Ideas for a cool simple GUI application to develop? I'm trying to learn PyGObject, but I would like to make something useful at the same time.

PIC18 is driving me NUTZ
@kos why don't you participate in that question about random math questions ?

kos
5:22 PM
@Serg The one you and Jacob Vlijm answered already? Hmmm.

Yeah . . . I've supposed to edit mine to turn it into single - window, but kinda got stuck . . . .I lack time recently

kos
Hmmm I think another answer to that one would necessarily be at least a half-duplicate.

@TheBrownOne how would I find the latter?

user139252
@Zacharee1 By going into your account settings

user139252
I'm writing a script that uses the CloudFlare API to update DNS records if my IP ever changes

5:30 PM
Found it
Should I email it?

user139252
Got the form email, thanks :D

user139252
I'm just trying to figure out how to clean up this output to get what I need...

Hello :)

@cl-netbox Hey! o/

5:36 PM
@ByteCommander Hello my friend - how are you ? :)

@cl-netbox Cool, I'm just starting to check out screeps.com
That's a multiplayer real-time online game where you control your units with JavaScript.
Seems like a nice idea to improve my JS skills :)

I don't know what to do with it . . . pisses me so much off . . . .

@ByteCommander You need improvement ? I cannot believe this ! :)

user139252
I first need to pull the content of the first "content" field and compare it to the output of another function that gives me my current address. Then, I need to pull the different ID fields for each domain and load them into separate curl -X POST functions

I may be good at Python, but this doesn't have anything to do with JavaScript, which I need for my current internship. Oh, and there's always space for improvements. :)
Anyway, it's a game, and there's always time for a game, right?

5:41 PM
@ByteCommander use your python skills to write javascript interpreter or something XD

Hi @Serg ! How are you today my friend ? :)

@cl-netbox energetic, but somewhat frustrated with my PICDEM board. No matter how I try, I cannot make serial conneciton to it form Ubuntu, but from Windows it works

@Serg How is this possible ?

@cl-netbox I don't know . . . .regular serial cable moves cursor , but no text , chars invisible. USB doesn't move at all

5:47 PM
@Serg strange ... very strange ... :)

and from hexdump i know that under regular serial cable, bytes are transmitted . . . but interpreted in wrong sequence. . . .

user139252
@Serg if I paste something that I'm doing that's absolutely crazy, could you figure out how to clean it up?

user139252
It's using your favorite things, sed and awk :P

@TheBrownOne OK, try me :)

user139252
Let me get it all into a paste

5:49 PM
I'm so happy! I've got +16 on my answer

@TheBrownOne : Hi Heather ! How are you ? :)

user139252
Good, and you? @cl-netbox

user136984
I forked a repo, fixed a problem, and made a pull request, but what do I do with my forked version now? Can I just delete it?

@TheBrownOne everything fine so far - thank you ! :)
@Zacharee1 WOW ... great ... Hello to you ! :)

user136984
That is, on Github...

5:51 PM
After working for some time in the only lab in the whole building, i figured out one thing. NO MATTER, HOW LARGE THE SIGN IS THAT CLASS IS IN SESSION . . . .people will still try to walk in and ask me 'Is there a class here right now ? '

hi

I don't know if people are so much attention-less or just plain r8arded

@Zacharee1 now it is one more ... :)

@Serg Tell somebody that the door is freshly painted, and he will touch it. Tell him that the universe contains about 800 trillion stars, and he'll believe it immediately...
People just don't want to believe the easy stuff.

user139252

5:55 PM
@ByteCommander true words spoken ... :)

@TheBrownOne is content a variable ? or you actually looking for content string
Also your URL was unquoted . . .returned me error too
that curl line here | awk -F ':' 'NR == 1{gsub(/\"/,"");gsub(/\,/,"\n"); print $2}'

user139252
I forgot a " in the curl line D=

user139252
one second...

@cl-netbox :D

user139252
6:10 PM
@Serg Fixed

567 rep to 4k :p

@Zacharee1 :D

user139252
@Serg That awk line just returns [{id

@TheBrownOne i clocked out for lunch. I'll fix it up once i get back
So you just need to extract the ip address, is that what I'm understanding ?

user136984
Though it's not how I felt this morning, I think that I will soon be rid of this flu... :)

user139252
6:17 PM
@Serg Yep.

@ParanoidPanda Nice to hear this ! Good luck for getting rid of the rest fast ! :)

user139252
Seems like I can't use pipes when defining a variable from a function...

I wonder if the downvoter on my answer is going to respond...

@Zacharee1 What answer it that?

@Terrance latest one. They left a comment saying what about it was wrong, I tried to argue my stance, didn't work, edited it, told them, no response
I've lost myself here: askubuntu.com/questions/731307/…
@Seth take down that sticky about 15.04
@Seth wait, nvm
didn't see it had been edited :p

6:33 PM
@Zacharee1 I am looking.

user136984
@cl-netbox: I misread that the first time and thought you were telling me to get fat! :D

@ParanoidPanda you are a panda...
:)

user136984
Yeah, so I'm already fat... :P

@ParanoidPanda Does a flu make pandas getting fat ? :D

@Zacharee1 I already +1 you on that answer yesterday. I guess I should have stuck around for the comments. I am thinking more and more I do not like UEFI for this reason.

6:37 PM
Which reason? The timeout?
and thanks :D

@Zacharee1 More for the removal of boot loaders which in my opinion means that you lose control because you have to go into the UEFI every time.
Maybe I am just old school

<---- Confused

user136984
@cl-netbox: Maybe! :D

@Zacharee1 Their comments seem more about not needing GRUB because of UEFI systems now. Your comment stating that a boot loader is required is the way that I think about it. But now even I get told that it is not required because UEFI.

Hi @Terrance ! :)

6:41 PM
What does uefi do that doesn't require a boot loader ?

@cl-netbox Hey! =)

@Serg nothing ! :)

@Terrance They should've made that clear. I was told in my comments that GRUB isn't necessary, not that a bootloader isn't necessary.

@Zacharee1 As far as I can see, any of those, even EFISTUB is still a boot loader of some kind.

user139252

6:44 PM
It is, as Rod Smith pointed out under the bottom answer. underscore_d and Dolanor are going around, downvoting the other answers, because their stance is that a bootloader is not absolutely necessary. It looks like they are the ones who are incorrect :p
Wow that was an awkward statement

@Serg It has its own bootloader of sorts. UEFI systems don't need a bootloader. They can be booted by code in /boot/EFI or wherever you mount your EFI partition.

@TheBrownOne I have to zoom to 75% on my 1080p screen just to see the whole first curler line :p

user139252
It's the only way the API works :P

user139252
This script is going to be a hot mess of Python, but I don't mind.

> UEFI systems can access GPT disks and boot directly from them, which allows Linux to use UEFI boot methods. Booting Linux from GPT disks on UEFI systems involves creation of an EFI System partition (ESP), which contains UEFI applications such as bootloaders, operating system kernels, and utility software. Such a setup is usually referred to as UEFI-GPT, while ESP is recommended to be at least 512 MiB in size and formatted with a FAT32 filesystem for maximum compatibility.

6:46 PM
@TheBrownOne back from lunch . . . still need the plumbing fix ?

user139252
@Serg Nope, read my last ping

user139252
I decided to give up on Bash and just go with Python

@terdon so EFI doesn't need a third-party bootloader, but it still needs something (its own)?

@Zacharee1 Something like that. I don't really understand the details so take what I say with a grain of salt. I di know that there is no need for an external bootloader though, yes.

OK
So I don't see why those two think the distinction is so important. If I say GRUB isn't needed, then people using legacy boot will receive misinformation.

6:49 PM
From my understanding, it is still a boot loader in some way or another. wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/…

user139252
Now I just need to work on getting all the information I need from the API, such as the other Zone IDs and record IDs....

user139252
But, once I get all of those, it'll mainly be just copy/pasting the same process and editing a few things

@Zacharee1 One would think though, that if GRUB wasn't required for EFI, then why was it installed on his system to begin with? I am thinking his system might still boot with BIOS, instead of UEFI.

@TheBrownOne how's that
skolodya@ubuntu:$ ./plumbing 2>/dev/null | awk -F ':' '{gsub(/\,/,":");gsub(/\>
71.84.219.124
Complete line
./plumbing 2>/dev/null | awk -F ':' '{gsub(/\,/,":");gsub(/\"/,""); for(i=1;i<=NF;i++) {if($i ~ /content/) {print $(i+1);exit}}}'

@Terrance no, GRUB installs no matter what. Some computers don't have the UEFI selection menu.

6:55 PM
Goodbye :)

@cl-netbox good night

user139252
@Serg That does work... but I'm already halfway done with my Python script :P

@Zacharee1 Unfortunately, I am not running any systems with UEFI, so I am no help there. I think I remember reading somewhere that GRUB would not come up on a host with UEFI, but I could be mistaken on that one.

@Serg thanks - same for you ! :)

@cl-netbox Good to see you again! Take care!

6:56 PM
@Terrance Thank you very much ! See you next time - maybe tomorrow ... :)

@TheBrownOne meh, I've posted for the heck of it. I don't doubt python can do it better,faster,stronger :P

@Zacharee1 I don't see where anyone has asked the OP if he is even running a system that has UEFI on it.
@cl-netbox Maybe tomorrow! =)

7:16 PM
I want to crawl into a hole and sleep till it's may . . . preferrably May 30th

user139252
@Zacharee1 How about this... I send you my script and you see if you know what I'm doing and write one for your own domain :P

RaphaelI have been trying to get Redshift to start before login so that the bright welcome screen does not blind me, in particular when switching users. Today is a holiday in my province.

Why does curl let me use https in command line, but not in a Python script?

Ah, I see

cURL in Python or urllib?

7:53 PM
There's an extra double quotes character

@NathanOsman good for you. it sucks for me here, i'm stuck with a normal day
:P

@ThomasW. I wish the holiday was next week though, like the rest of the country. Our brilliant provincial government decided "hey, let's make it a week before the rest of the country!"

heh

user139252
Didn't work...

user139252
This project is starting to irritate me...

7:58 PM
I don't think the Python libraries do proper TLS verification anyway.

@NathanOsman so the fix for nitroshare's missing Ubuntu dependencies is in the sponsoring queue - though don't expect rapid response - reqorts.qa.ubuntu.com/reports/sponsoring

@ThomasW. Thanks!

@NathanOsman well at least 1/10th of your country is still working next week? :p

@Seth That's one way of looking at it.

user139252
8:02 PM
Wait, ddclient supports CloudFlare -_-

It looks like you're trying to determine if DNS records in CloudFlare are set to the same values that they locally resolve to.

insert clippy image

slaps @Seth
Clippy Is Dead

@Seth I see what you did there.

user139252
I was trying to, basically, create my own ddclient for CloudFlare

user139252
8:04 PM
If my current IP didn't resolve to what CloudFlare had on file, update CloudFlare with the correct one

user139252
After migrating to CloudFlare... I cannot SSH in

make sure the DNS that points to that server is set to NOT go through cloudflare
otherwise you torpedo the ability to get into the system, etc.

user139252
Got it

There's someone next to me who does not know how to clear his throat. He keeps just breathing out quickly every second or so, and you can just hear the phlegm and it's getting annoying and I can't leave and you're welcome for that description.

Anybody got apache virtualhost's working on Ubuntu 15.10?

user139252
@blade19899 would you like me to try?

I tried that, no luck. Permissino Denied

Which step are you getting that on?

@TheBrownOne Last one.

9:01 PM
Exact command and output?

user139252
You're having trouble just editing your hosts file?

@TheBrownOne Everything worked fine, just after completion of the steps, I get permission denied.

user139252
In the web browser?

user139252
try sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/html

user139252
Then, if you still want to modify things, you'll have to sudo useradd -G www-data YOURUSERNAME

9:05 PM
@kos my flags ? I didn't get it

user139252
@blade19899 Make sure you also did sudo chmod -R 755 /var/www/html

kos
@Serg There were two pending flags in Cyrillic (now long gone)

@TheBrownOne Already did all those steps.

What's the output of ls -laF /var/www/html?

Thats where my wen projects are

9:11 PM
cool, i ain't got time for them anyway :)

user139252
@blade19899 sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /home/USERNAME/public_html

@TheBrownOne Yep. Did that.

@jrg: Please? Change me back as it doesn't seem to change in the chat room? :-)

Oh yeah
He regretted it last year!

@TheBrownOne I get those too sometimes. Also, if a distant RICH relative died, and I inherited millions of Dollars... I'm from Holland xD

No, Fabby shall remain Unicode for the time being.

I'm still waiting on my Nigerian prince..

lol softpedia.

That's how long I raged xD

I'll wait 30 days before I change again. The Brown One sounds a little demeaning when said out loud.

I cut it in pieces
> No. The only reason I fully support the Ubuntu dev decisions to stick to and older release of Nautilus, is because new ones lack basic features. Who are they making Nautilus for? The noobs? The majority of Linux users know what they are doing, if not they learn. This pleases the minor percentage that are Ubuntu noobs. Which they wont be anymore in a few month. Nautilus - and gnome in general - has been slimmed down, for.. Well for who?
> Bring back features. Seriously. This joke has gone long enough.
LMAO!
Too mean?

@TheBrownOne Naming is hard.

9:32 PM
Sounds about right for Gnome.

Needs more SystemD

well. You are assuming noobs don't like features.

@James so I have to use it in 10 days? hmm.

10:54 PM
@TheBrownOne what sort of maintenance?

@Zacharee1 I was reducing the number of .conf files I had by making use of ServerAlias directives

user139252
Cloudflare seems to be creating issues with Let's Encrypt though

user139252
It's failing on the DNS look-ups

I think it's because the look-ups are getting the CloudFlare CDN IPs, which is causing it to fail the check to verify that I run the server
