@Zacharee1 I can add in the rewrite rule to make it force HTTPS again

That'd be great :D

user139252
It'll have to be later, going home, then to gym, then to dinner

That's fine

@Zacharee1 oh. Cast any downvotes lately?

@Serg - on my Qt5 register to download rant from the other day - I found a direct link to source, but the first result and the way the UI drives you wants registration.

12:05 AM
@Seth nope. It just said +17. I have one upvote and it's the accepted answer. I was thinking that maybe if the OP accepts and upvotes it only gives 17, but that would e a recent change...

@Zacharee1 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
the notification menu shows weird changes.
lots of combinations can cause it.

@Seth It's not a combo, though. It's one specific listing

yeah
combos effect what it shows
it doesn't show the entire thing necessarily.
like I said, it's weird.

12:23 AM
@Seth Well, it's accepted, upvoted once and no downvotes
510 rep to go

12:43 AM
well I removed the power button from my GSIII. No more issues \o/
xposed ftw \o/

Well, I guess that works. Have you found a way to reverse or bypass the qFuse yet?

nope.
There is no bypassing a qfuse.
or reversing it.

So I just looked up :/
You could just by an LG G2
LG doesn't use the efuses in its devices, so bootloader unlock right away :D
Another reason to get LG
G5 ANNOUNCEMENT ON THE 21ST

no $$$ atm

CANT WAIT

12:49 AM
but someday.

$150
But very fragile screen
The digitizer is fused with like 2mm thick glass, so when it breaks, so does the digitizer :/

when I say no $$$ I mean no $$$ ;)
I might get a nexus for that price though.
One thing I really like about this old samsung is the removable battery and phillips screws though.. :/

Nexus 4 is $75
@Seth True. G4 has that :p

@Zacharee1 Does it? moves to top of list

@Seth and an SD card slot, and laser autofocus on the 16MP, large aperture camera, and 3GB RAM, and a nice design, and a 2.5k screen, and panting

12:52 AM
hmm, I'm approaching 20k, but just my luck by the time I reach it it's not the top privilege anymore lol.

G5 might have a modular bay sort of thing (don't know if you saw the render)
@Seth You're not there yet O_o

@Zacharee1 yeah, the G4 is pretty sweet. I don't much like its button configuration, but hey, I can live with it.

What are you doing as a mod then? :p

@Zacharee1 mod work :/
that doesn't give rep..

@Seth True that. The G5 supposedly will move them to the side, though, so that there's room for the supposed dual cameras and supposed fingerprint scanner
Supposed...

12:54 AM
wow, dual cameras? That is something I want to see.

@Seth I meant it as a joke, since a lot of non-mods are over 20k :p
@Seth 3D, better focus, possible after-shot refocus
One is supposed to be 16MP and the other 8, so probably focusing and a sort of popout effect, where whatever you focused on has much sharper focus than the background

Analyzing the growth of Seths reputation, he should be able to hit 20K in the next 45 days. askubuntu.com/users/44179/seth?tab=reputation

@James @ParanoidPanda @TheBrownOne @Serg We need to all upvote @Seth !

No!

@Seth you should

I'm sure James can handle the rest of the flags for me ;P

buuut right now I have to go edit my resume.

Someone hack Seth's account and write answers for him :p

1:05 AM
@Seth Let me know if you want someone to proof read it.
I'm sadly getting realllly good at proof reading peoples resumes.

@Zacharee1 calm down, it'll come ;)

@James k, thanks

@Zacharee1 meh, just have him post an answer to a HNQ

HNQ?

I've got a lot of people around here so I doubt I will need to avail myself of it, but we'll see :)

OK!

Q: Good day. I am trying to launch Steam via Ubuntu

Matt WynneI am new to Linux only this evening. I am trying to play Football Manager 2016 via my Chromebook 2 and have installed Ubuntu. Unfortunately I am not able to launch Steam via the software center and I am being greeted with errors. If anybody with some knowledge could help me I would be eternally...

1:37 AM
I see questions with people using Unetbootin and having problems so much, that I've made a shortcut to paste the URL to Rufus :p

@Zacharee1 Hot network questions
@Zacharee1 very very different tools
Rufus makes install USBs
dosen't do persistance

@JourneymanGeek I know, but most people use Unetbootin to just make a normal install USB, and run into tons of problems, all of which Rufus seems to fix ¯_(ツ)_/¯

except the persistence problem ;)

@Seth But no one who has the "can't even boot the installer" problem seems to want this :p
I mean, I'd be pretty willing to give up persistence if it meant I was able to install Ubuntu

@Zacharee1 persistance means I can pocket my whole environment on a USB key

1:47 AM
How's that useful if it won't boot though?
Unetbootin on Windows is a mess it seems

(unrelatedly, I need/want an ubuntu netboot with UEFI ._.)

@Seth pretty please reopen this question? I can put the details in, since they have been provided in the comments

Q: after uninstalling various input ibus, ubuntu wont let me login to desktop

user2167582As described, i have been trying to do a clean installation of ibus-pinyin (it broke over the past couple of versions), so i went into package manager and deleted anything ibus related that i thought was installed by me. So I restarted computer and now I can no longer login, I know the password ...

@Seth um... that isn't coding... ?

I assume that was earlier today..
or maybe he thinks command line is coding?

@Mateo he might not be talking about that

2:19 AM
yeah... I think he was

Well he said his question was unclear because he was high off of learning coding
That would mean he had the "high" before he asked the question
So I don't think it was from the command
Which means it could be anything

off of installing ubuntu on a chromebook and trying to enter commands in terminal ;P

But since he seems to sort of know what he's doing, he was probably talking about actual coding
@Mateo maybe

Q: Strange Rep Count

Zacharee1So today I noticed that one of my answers had gained a strange amount of rep (+17). I checked it out in my profile, and saw that it had gained 15 points from being accepted and another 2 from being upvoted. What issues could one face when making some application that is compatible for 9.04 to work on 15.04?
Someone mentioned about init system earlier. Any further details?

10:58 AM
@AbhishekBhatia 9.04 is EOL(End Of Life - no longer supported). No one is running that. Focus on LTS releases. Those are supported for 5 years.

Yeah I know I have some application that is written for that only. And there is no further support as the company has shut down. I am tryingto make it work on ubuntu 15.04

11:39 AM
@blade19899 I have to disagree. Some will still be running it. Heck I can point you to a server that ran 6.06 up to last weekend (where the fan died and thus the system) and I can still point you to and 8.04 system still spinning :=)

@AbhishekBhatia and that is pretty impossible ;-) you can not write software just for 9.04. Well you can -test- if someone is running 9.04 but there are no commands in 9.04 for coding that are not present in (or can be installed) on any other Ubuntu.

@Rinzwind WHAT? WHO? WHERE? I'ma hack them, just for being stupid.

@blade19899 best practice and reality arn't always in the same timezone
And sometimes stuff breaks when you upgrade. We had an upgraded system (from 8.04) at my last workplace that would crash every week...

@JourneymanGeek Granted. But you don't need to upgrade. Install a different server with the latest LTS, and get everything working there, copy data to the new server, redirect to the new servers, and done.

@blade19899 migrating a running install is never ever that trvial

update is good; Upgrade is good when done properly.
@JourneymanGeek Not, If you have got experience in such a thing. Then you know every pitfalls.

, the rmdir command was a setuid program (source code can be found here) which checked that a directory was empty (other than the special entries), and then removed .. and ., in that order

Wouldn't removing `..` remove the parent dir ?

@TheBrownOne are you also good at fish puns ? Lol

Q: My terminal is giving unformatted results (output) after upgrading to Ubuntu 15.10

alkabaryWhenever I run g++ to compile any C++ code, My terminal is showing some weird output. Even when I do like man ls And this happened from the moment that I upgraded from Ubuntu 15.04 to Ubuntu 15.10. I did sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade But non seemed to work really.

kos
@ParanoidPanda Which ones? I kinda like maths challenges.

user136984
@kos: This one:

user136984
5 mins ago, by Paranoid Panda
@TheBrownOne: Ok, what are the sub-sub-dimensional properties of the 16D higher representation of a 3D cube? And what is the problem with doing these predictions with triangles?

kos
3:25 PM
@ParanoidPanda ... I can answer "Also, you do realise that "carp" is a type of fish don't you?" if that's the same. :D
(yes)
However that's not really a "challenge", that's a question about theory, it involves either knowing or not knowing the answer beforehand. I wouldn't call that a "challenge".

user136984
There is a chart you can draw to figure it out.

user136984
I mean, you don't have to draw it as a chart, but I find it helps that way.

kos
@ParanoidPanda Out of curiosity, what do you mean by "16D higher representation" (if that doesn't involve writing a book in order to be explained)?

user136984
3:41 PM
@kos: Doing up to 16 dimensions might take a lot of time, so let's just do up to 5...

user136984
@kos: Actually, I only have an example of up to 4 dimensions, but that will do:

user136984

user136984
If you know how many of each sub-dimension a 3D cube has, then you can predict how many it will have in its higher states by seeing the pattern in its lower ones.

user136984
0D being a point, and 1D 1 line with 2 points.

user136984
@kos: Do you know what I mean?

user136984
3:47 PM
I'm sure I drew a more detailed version of that chart, but that's all I seem to have on my machine at the moment.

kos
@ParanoidPanda No, sorry. I have completely no idea about what a sub-dimension is.
Thanks for the effort though. :)

Just curious, is everyone having that every now and then on AU? days in a row only running into small annoyances, obviously political or otherwise coloured voting, small quarrels. It must be me. Maybe time for a small holiday...

Q: Access the graphical library in c++

JuanI'm trying to learn to program in C++. I want to know if there is an specific graphical library and how to access it. I've been reading some texts about this, but they speak about libraries that are not available today. Somebody talks about OGRE, but it seems to be a whole paralell world. So....

kos
@JacobVlijm What do you mean by "political or otherwise coloured" exactly?

4:02 PM
@kos Sometimes you are pretty sure your answer is not accepted (or voted on) by someone because of a minor issue you've had with someone...
@kos normally, I don't mind at all, but some days, I do. Again, probably time for a break.

kos
@JacobVlijm Just move on. I remember having commented on someone's question making an (I agree) not too useful comment because of something I overlooked in the question once, and having get an agry response along the lines of "I know that, you're not being useful here!", even though my comment was just trying to help. Some people are spoiled, some are just j****. My suggestion is to move on and leave them alone.

4:17 PM
@kos Thanks, I needed that :) As mentioned, most of the time you (meaning "we" ) are doing your thing, having fun in an independent way, sometimes minor negative experiences in a row give you a bad taste. I know it's me.

kos
OTOH there are users who really appreciate your help and show their appreciation, which is gratifying (I guess this is true for anyone). Just remember about those and forget about the others :)

@kos You couldn't be more right!!

kos
:)

Thanks a lot, see you around, going to cook diner :)

kos
@JacobVlijm Np! Bon appetit!

user136984
4:43 PM
@kos: A 3D shape is made of 2D ones, and those are made of 1D ones, which are made of 0D ones, and that makes a pattern so that you can see how many 3D, 2D, 1D, and 0D shapes are in the 4D version, as well as how many 4D ones are in it (obviously there is one 4D shape in a 4D shape).

user136984
@kos: Are you any clearer now on what I meant?

user136984
The table/chart above shows what I described.

kos
@ParanoidPanda Indeed, I overthought that. You are just counting how many dots, lines, squares, cubes (insert the name of the object in four dimensions here) are in a dot, line, square, cube (insert the name of the object in four dimensions here), aren't you?

> Couch Potato
Thats was me, but then I got a Job/life

user136984
@kos: Yeah, more or less, but they are sub-dimensional levels.

user136984
4:54 PM
@kos: And the 4D cube is a hypercube by the way. ;)

kos
@ParanoidPanda What a slacker, you could have drawn a picture of that as well. :)

user136984
@kos: So the hypercube would consist on a sub-dimensional level of 16 0D shapes, 36 1D ones, 24 2D ones, 8 3D ones, and 1 4D one.

user136984
@kos: I did draw a picture of the different levels, but I didn't scan that in so you only have the one I did... :P

user136984
But it should really be fairly obvious from the chart, and it's one of those things you should know anyway...

user136984
Though nobody I speak to seems to know... :P
