5:00 PM
@Sneetsher great =) git clone ...

@Cenoc hm, this came up in searching, maybe a similar thing, not sure, at least the same permission denied error: github.com/docker/docker/issues/6047

@Sneetsher Nothing to clone =\

well, maybe not. doesn't look like sudo usage there...

lol
@ParanoidPanda uh oh
it's you again

user136984
Can I remotely manage several or at least another Ubuntu machine?

5:04 PM
Teamviewer?
VNC?
Remote Desktop?

in the same network @ParanoidPanda ?

ah maybe:
1
Q: Permission denied writing to mysql log

IanI am just testing out a new Ubuntu (Vivid 15.04) install on Vagrant, and getting problems with mysql and logging to a custom location. In /var/log/syslog I get /usr/bin/mysqld_safe: cannot create /var/log/mysqld.log: Permission denied If I ls -l /var I get drwxrwxr-x 10 root syslog 4096 Jun ...

@ParanoidPanda Mr. Panda

user136984
@GeoMint: Yes.

user136984
@Zacharee1:

5:06 PM
Then just use Remote Desktop

user136984

:P

i remember i saw a program for schools for ubuntu but i need to search a bit

@GeoMint @ParanoidPanda Why won't regular VNC or even Teamviewer work?

user136984
I basically just want to do those alerts remotely! They're really fun! :D

5:07 PM
Oh, that type of remote control?
So, terminal access?

user136984
Yes

SSH?

user136984
I have never actually used it before...

user136984
Is that an easy way of doing it centrally? Because I don't want to have to log into each machine to run the command.

Pretty simple. Just install openssh on all the machines
Well, you'd have to login, but only once
Wait, problem

5:08 PM
@ParanoidPanda Now I know why @A.B. said : chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/25766715#25766715 =)

only once per machine
In separate terminal windows

@ParanoidPanda YEAH I FOUND IT! Epoptes

@GeoMint Now, that looks useful

user136984
@Zacharee1: Yeah, that won't do, I want to execute it once in one Terminal window.

@ParanoidPanda take a look at Epoptes

5:10 PM
Its one of my favorite open source projects i have ever seen
it is a greek project :P

user136984
Is it available in the repositories?

@ParanoidPanda ppa epoptes.org/installation

@ParanoidPanda not default

@ParanoidPanda you are gonna try it?

user136984
5:15 PM
Yes, after I've finished eating... :P

Guys, does that computer screen look like Unity desktop to you?

@jokerdino wut

@jokerdino no

Really? It looks like Unity with the left side launcher to me.

@ParanoidPanda "Epoptes consists of a server package called epoptes and a client package called epoptes-client"
@jokerdino third icon is moved a bit to right. dunno

5:18 PM
White Collar Season Epi6

@Cenoc did someone set the sticky bit? askubuntu.com/questions/633857/…

user136984
@GeoMint: Yeah, I don't need it just this moment, but I am settings something up in a few weeks hopefully, so I will give it a go then. :)

@ParanoidPanda what use you gonna do?

user136984
I've got some Ubuntu machines on the network so I'm just going to enforce some more control. >:P

:P
if you have kids, this can be useful

5:22 PM
@GeoMint @ParanoidPanda would be too paranoid :p

haha

user136984
:D

user136984
Oh come on! :D

he is the Panda of Code. dont forget

@jokerdino Unity looks like OS X, and TV shows often like using Macs...

5:27 PM
@Chan-HoSuh I did my research. That show was on TV on Aug 2010. Don't think Unity was in use back then.
It debuted in 11.04.
So, nope. It's not Unity. :(

Hehe, good job

LOL

And, nice to meet you. LTNS.

maybe windows xp ?

the display looks like an iMac to me
black bezel, aluminum frame

user136984
5:28 PM
There seems to be some sort of argument brewing here (I was called in there by a flag)... Should anything be done about this?

@jokerdino not quite... they like to make things up on many shows

@Chan-HoSuh most definitely not an iMac. Too short, not enough bezel on the bottom

I once thought I spotted nitroshare in use on continuum (the previous version, that had drop boxes)

The monitor looks like a Dell, and the blurred logo is the right length

@Mateo yeah.. I was excited at first but it's not Unity.

5:30 PM
@ParanoidPanda STOP BLINKING
;p
@jokerdino I'm going to say Windows 7/XP with a docking program

user136984
I am? :D

Please help me here (in the comments): askubuntu.com/questions/703882/…

@Zacharee1 With a top bar and a shiny launcher, I feel it's one of those Mac OS.

@jokerdino the monitor isn't Apple brand for sure. If it was a Mac, it would probably be an Apple monitor as well.

5:33 PM
That's a fair point.

In TV world, perhaps

Maybe it's just an image transposed.

Maybe
Do you have a focused frame?

Let me see if I can find a Youtube link.
OK no luck.

why are you watching USA anyway? :p

5:37 PM
@Mateo it's not coming out on the ls -l command
So I don
t think so?

:/

But I'm not sure why it would prevent connecting/touching

@Chan-HoSuh That's all my sister had.

I'm convinced it's some weird socket thing

@jokerdino I'm going to keep my vote for Windows 7

5:38 PM
But it seems there's not that much love for unix sockets on the internet
(not that much written)

user136984
Have we got any mods in here from the "Code Review" SE site?

@ParanoidPanda not likely

@Cenoc perhaps it's a quality vs quantity thing

user136984
Ok, well I'll forget about that then...

lol, that discussion is a bit funny

5:41 PM
:P

no wonder people like to avoid code reviews at work

wow indeed, I remember when the coolest kid in the dorm had a 1 gig HD

5:58 PM
@Chan-HoSuh the prices are a little inaccurate on that site
Even in 2012, a 500GB drive was $80 for the really high end ones

Well, the point of the comparison is to show the dramatic price decreases, it's fair to be a bit conservative in the estimates

yeah
4TB DRIVE FOR $120?

man, you know you're old when you're wondering why your bank doesn't let you download all your info as a csv

lol, why are you amazed? Did prices just drop suddenly recently?

6:02 PM
Amazon goes up to a $250 WD Red 6TB
@Chan-HoSuh I've never looked before
The price increase gets smaller and smaller as you go larger and larger
That 5TB one costs less than the 4TB one without the discount.

the bandwidth is still lagging behind the storage though
we're not quite living in an age where we can transmit 1GB very quickly

6Gb/s is pretty fast
Almost 1GB/s

I mean over the Internet

Oh, well yeah
But that's not what people care about right now
We still like our DVDs and flash drives

I'm being picky though, I remember using a modem after all
waiting for Doom to download

6:06 PM
I have a friend who lived 5 minutes out of my town who just got DSL two years ago

hehe
that's horrible

It's a surprisingly rural area
It's also between a mountain and a stream for half the drive and then mountains on either side for the rest

user136984
Can I import the source I get from apt-get source [package] into an IDE? And is there a special Ubuntu IDE or does it not matter which I use?

user136984
Also, how do I import it in? Just by putting the top level directory with the code into the IDE projects folder?

@ParanoidPanda it's just question after question with you :p

user136984
6:09 PM
Is this the sort of question I could ask on the main site?

usually an IDE has its own import facility

@ParanoidPanda you can ask a question about the Big Bang on the main site. It may get closed, but you can ask it

user136984
I mean, would this question be considered on-topic?

It has to do with Ubuntu-specific stuff, so I guess
But what IDE?

user136984
Well, I'm wondering if there is a special IDE that you would use with Ubuntu projects, but my primary one is NetBeans.

6:12 PM
Oh, I see what you're doing. Is there a way to save what you get from apt-get source?
@ParanoidPanda

user136984
Stop pinging me! :D

:PPPPPP
Flash

user136984
6:29 PM
@terdon: Do you like yoghurt?

wAT

user136984
@Zacharee1: I am just copying what you did! :P

:P
I at least had something to say to you

6:51 PM
Goodbye ... until tomorrow ... :)

@jokerdino 10.10 had unity in the netbook version.

user139252
@Zacharee1 I guess so. I'll relaunch now

user139252
@Serg yes, but I am a baby about sleep

@HeatherBrown you should come on

user139252
I will try to find the time, I have conferences today

7:01 PM
aw :p
@Seth in-a the netbook version. Are you Mario?
@HeatherBrown doesn't seem to be up

@Zacharee1 fixed.

user139252
7:18 PM
Should be up

ok

hmm, anyone have any idea why my launcher isn't showing up in Unity?
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Packet Tracer
Comment=
Exec=packettracer
Icon=/opt/pt/art/app.ico
Terminal=false
Type=Application
StartupNotify=true
stored in a .desktop file in /usr/share/applications.
perms are 644 like everything else in that folder..

Did you reboot?

yeah

user139252
Try saving to desktop?

7:25 PM
Check to see if the other entries have something special inside

@Seth command -v packettracer please =)

@A.B. /usr/local/bin/packettracer

@Seth Use the full path
I know, it should also work without, ....

Still no go @A.B..

anyone else have dd completion broken?
type sudo dd if=
then try a letter of something in the folder and type tab

7:35 PM
works for me.

it removes the "if="
huh
I'm on 15.10 on this one
also does it on my 14.04?

Maybe you're doing something wrong

i type "sudo dd if=nameof"
then tab, it completes the filename but deletes "if="

@Mateo oh, yeah, now I'm seeing that behaviour

strange huh...
is there another syntax it works better on?
hrm, going to look for a bug

7:42 PM
@A.B. I found an official .desktop file in the installation folder, copied that to /usr/share/applications and rebooted. Doesn't even find the official one..

@Seth strange

@Seth Caching?

@Zacharee1 Not after a reboot

Oh what fun
@A.B. hmm

lol

7:47 PM
@Seth Have you desktop-file-validate installed?
It's in the package desktop-file-utils

yes I do.
➜  ~  desktop-file-validate /usr/share/applications/Cisco-PacketTracer.desktop
/usr/share/applications/Cisco-PacketTracer.desktop: warning: key "Encoding" in group "Desktop Entry" is deprecated
/usr/share/applications/Cisco-PacketTracer.desktop: warning: value "Application;Network;" for key "Categories" in group "Desktop Entry" contains a deprecated value "Application"

@GeoMint I have regen 255 as well

ok, anyone who tried that out and experienced similar results with dd - here we go: bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bash-completion/+bug/1520986

@Zacharee1 is that 255 hearts?

@GeoMint idk how many hearts it is, but regeneration has to do with how quickly your health comes back

7:53 PM
ok

@Seth Your desktop file is ok. I have tested it with an application in my /usr/local/bin

@GeoMint it's over 800. Probably something like 1024

lol

@Seth Perhaps a silly question, /usr/local/bin/packettracer works?

@Zacharee1 that's not true, but funny:
i mean some of that he says are not really true. but most of them are true *

7:59 PM
LOL

:P

Oops
Killed my graphics
I guess that's what I get for playing Minecraft on the integrated card

:P

There goes the Panda, blinking again

@A.B. yes it does.

8:09 PM
@A.B. Unless I cry out loud "Ouch! Ouch! You Fùçk|ng piece of $h|t!", no need to apologize... Ever! ;-) >:-)
@ParanoidPanda Use me! (And I mean that in a technical way, not the other one!) :P ;-)
(ping me to get my tox id and IP address)

user136984
@Fabby: Ok, well I've got a VM crashing my system at the moment so you'll have to wait for a bit... :P

@Zacharee1 i am trying to install epoptes server to my laptop and the clients to my virtual boxes

@GeoMint :D :D :D Good one!

@Fabby you are using tox?

(are you greek?)

8:12 PM
yeah

@GeoMint yeah... Why?

i have it installed but no one of my friends want to use it :P

:D
other means of payment :')

@GeoMint Ah, have they heard of the NSA and uncrackable codes and if they install it they will be ahead of the curve as it's the next Skype and in 10 years time no one will be using Skype and everyone will be using tox???

8:16 PM
no... :/
@Fabby every christmas is sing this: NSA B1TCHES

user136984
@Fabby: Right, what's your Tox ID? :)

and here's my ip:
@GeoMint AFK. Turning on sound, so I can hear you ping me... (CC:@ParanoidPanda)
@ParanoidPanda accepted.

wow you are fast
i was configuring epoptes
@ParanoidPanda epoptes is working :D
i can upload a video how to

@GeoMint ahahaha, awesome!

@Seth :)

8:25 PM
@Fabby :D

@A.B. He has been warned getting my tox ID is a privilege! >:-)

LOL
@Seth try another executable in your desktop file. That's very strange.

@A.B. I have to leave now, but I will try later and get back to you.

8:40 PM

good theme switching, config file copy over q: askubuntu.com/questions/703981/… specific enough that it dosn't seem like a dupe of much - wants xubuntu themes on unity

@ParanoidPanda you can see my Epoptes server (laptop) running and 2 VM clients on my desktop pc
i had problem with Ubuntu 16.04 alpha VNC connection though

user136984
@Fabby: Is there any way of making qTox make a noise when a message is received (also I've sent you a message there)?

Yes...
Busy with smth. Be back in 7 minutes.

8:53 PM
oooh
That's interesting
I might have to suggest that to my mom
She doesn't want to put our WAP up higher because then people would see it, but we get horrible connection from 20 feet away

my father has attached the router to wall :P

user136984
If I have two separate applications running in WINE can they interact with each other?

just wine?

user136984
PoL

@ParanoidPanda unless you're using PlayOnLinux, they're both on the same virtual drive
And... you're using PoL

9:02 PM
@ParanoidPanda that is different...

user136984
I know...

user136984
But it utilizes WINE...

unless you select the same app and install something in the same one, no it shouldn't

In PoL, each program is installed to a separate virtual drive. I guess the apps could interact, but how do you need them to?

@ParanoidPanda what are you trying to do?

9:04 PM
@Zacharee1 that's my rooter i.imgur.com/NVnWAtR.jpg

Beautiful :p

user136984
Well, I am going to have a Windows application which I need to run, but it basically just upgrades another application which I must have (and is also a Windows application).

if you want multiple programs in the same one go there, and then select task manager, then you can launch another app in the same pol

without the cap :P for not getting heat

user136984
Upgrades... Well, adds to...

9:05 PM
@ParanoidPanda yeah, do what @Mateo said, or use Wine itself
And I thought you liked the terminal :p

@ParanoidPanda select app in pol -> configure -> wine tab -> taskmanager -> new task -> find program that upgrades the other one

in PlayOnLinux heartstone already exists :D

@ParanoidPanda capture while I'm typing...

Q: How do I get an /HP Officejet Pro 6830 printer to work with Ubuntu?

LeeI just hooked-up an HP Officejet Pro 6830 All-in-One Series printer. The install went w/o flaws. However, when printing from my computer, after printing several lines, the printing is squished together for a few lines then it prints several more lines just fine and squishes it again. Doing a test...

@Zacharee1 At the beginning I thought it was SNL. LOL.

Which one?

hello
The Adele imitation

ah

9:42 PM
Can we close this since the guy is crossposting?

@ThomasW. I would close it as off-topic, since it seems to be about Debian and not Ubuntu
I know Debian is .deb, but it seems to be more aimed at Debian

My first starred message:
:D

9:57 PM
:P

user136984
VTC this Minty question as off-topic.

user136984
Goodnight! :)

@ParanoidPanda night :) i also saw that. i liked that:UGH! There needs to be a Linux Mint site on Stack Exchange!
