@Seth Blasphemy. You need to actually make/get your own guacamole.

2 hours later…
user139252
1:33 AM
I used to work at Chipotle. Their guacamole recipe is forever burned into my memory

@HeatherBrown what is it?

@HeatherBrown are you going to tell me their food is terrible and I should never eat there again? :(

I've never been to Chipotle

user139252
I love their food

yay!
breaths sigh of relief

1:44 AM
What's their recipe?

@Zacharee1 It consists of one ingredient: NDA.

@Seth :P

user139252
5 pounds of avocado. 1 cup onion, 1 cup lemon lime juice mix. I tbsp salt

So little salt

that's it?

user139252
1:46 AM
Mash together until proper consistency

@Seth guacamole is pretty simple

You can tell I don't eat much of it :P
@Zacharee1 You should go sometime. It's really good.

user139252
Makes three of those tubs they serve from

I make it with avocado, salt, lime juice and hotsauce
@Seth I really should

user139252
I can also make all of their salsas

1:47 AM
You must be popular at parties
"Heather, you bring the dip"

user139252
All of the leftovers go to a local food bank at the end of the week

Doesn't it go bad?

user139252
Good company to work for, but I finished school and got to move up

@HeatherBrown wow really? That's great! Most places just throw it away iirc.

user139252
My location used vacuum seal bags

1:49 AM
ah
That helps
ping me if you need me: going fullscreen

@Zacharee1 HALP
(obligatory ping)

sigh

(old joke started a long time ago, sorry)

Is the chat on fire?

@Ravan if you are looking for privacy, try ixquick.com

does anyone see anything wrong with my answer here? I'm a little fuzzy on a few of those points.

I have done something stupid by the way. I offered a bounty on a question, and left a possible solution in the comments. Now a 1 rep user read that info in the comment, and posted an answer -____-

lol

2:06 AM
@Serg link

@Seth I think one could free up /boot through a live usb as well, no ?

Q: How customize a full-screen console background? ( TTY )

IvanI use to use full-screen consoles (those opened with Ctrl+Alt+F1...F6) actively and have came to an idea that I would like to try decorating it with a "wallpaper" of a sirt(a rather dark and monotonous one of course so that it wouldn't decrease readability), perhaps this could look and feel nice ...

@Serg yeah, but that'd require chroots and stuff to do safely.

Now i am looking for alternatives. Everything i found is for Arch Linux . . .

ugh have to reboot
farewell for 20 hours :p

@Zacharee1 see ya
Well well . . . .hide.me proxy with ixquick search engine is kinda nice

2:12 AM
@Serg Are you using proxy/VPN?

Nope
I just tried to use ixquick through proxy to check my IP address
google did find my IP address, but hide.me + ixquick showed different

I tried to use VPN but every time error
@Serg how?

Then in the search bar on that page, i entered ixquick.com
then on ixquick searched what is my ip, selected random site , and it showed me . . . .different address that my ip address :D

nice

user139252
2:36 AM
@Ravan how close to California are you?

@HeatherBrown Hello :)
I am from India
let me check

user139252
Ah. Very far from California :p. I was going to offer a key to my VPN, but your speed will plummet if you are connecting from that far, I assume

very nice from you
whenever I try to setup free VPN, I am getting "VPN secrets" error :(

user139252

Q: How to access grove sensors from Linux?

StéphaneI have some Seeedstudio Grove sensors I'd like to access from linux. Eventually, I need to access them from a C++ application, but figuring out how to access them from a normal bash shell would be a great start. The grove sensors I'm talking about are any of the modules from here: http://www.s...

:P
I did a thing

:) For a moment I thought your chat box below my "howdy" would be different in the image versus here
or at least recursive

ō_ô

or we could play a joke on people
you could photoshop in me saying something, post the image
and then I will say the thing you put in, but below the image
people will be so confused :)

3:57 AM
Hmm
Maybe
I'd have to find the font used

the thing I say could be, "Hey wait a minute, I didn't say that yet"

Now, is the font Verdana or Arial?
Hmm
So how should we do this?
@Chan-HoSuh you need to update the script

Q: Nvidia detects non existent display

akyaHi I am on Ubuntu Gnome 14.04.1. I tried the default driver for a while but the performance wasn't satisfactory so decided to install nvidia driver. The problem is nvidia detects two displays and makes the wrong display as default. I disabled it and saved to xconf but every time the non existent ...

I think It might be possible
see how win can be tricked:
and someone had a "bug" that might just mean you can setup a non-existent screen as the primary monitor

Anyone know how I could go about writing a theming plugin for the AU chat? I want the background to load #987654 by default

@Mateo thankx, I'll czech it out laterz

kindof saves a starting point for navigating directories - each directory you pushd is saved

dir stack, ive heard of it but never used or researched
OK, so that user's home directory is non empty, nothing is root owned

5:25 AM
Running out of ideas

5:50 AM
Just binge watched Jessica Jones

no idea what that is

user139252
Starting on daredevil now.
Both are surprisingly good

Your opinions don't count.

@jokerdino <.< be nice

user139252
And that is because?

5:52 AM
It is biased.
I need to watch it to be sure.

user139252
Because of my love for Marvel? Slightly, yes

user139252
I just wish they played into each other and the rest of the marvel cinematic universe a little more

Are they both American series?
Looks like it, nm.

user139252
Especially considering daredevil and Jessica Jones are supposed to take place in the same neighborhood

\ (-___-) /
i give up
i cannot solve this

user139252
5:58 AM
What are you stuck on?

Basically , blank unity upon login

user139252
Did s/he try reinstall?

doesn't remember

user139252
Well,try again :p

Yup, suggested, also suggested he gets blackbox
maybe that will work

user139252
6:04 AM
We can hope.

Ask them to try guest account.

@jokerdino did that, guest works alright
tried creating new account, didn't work

What didnt work about creating new account?

login
user created successfully but cannot login in lightdm

I don't know. Not my ideal way of spending my Sunday morning.

6:16 AM
It's saturday night for me over here

user139252
Reboot after adding?

Do you use Unity at school @Heather?

user139252
Sometimes. I prefer mate.

Is that Ubuntu Mate or Mint?

user139252
Yes, I know a reboot should not be necessary, but still worth a try. Regular Ubuntu install, mate installed afterwards

6:24 AM
That's the Windows way of solving a problem. Restart.

user139252
If you can at least get the problem to go away, it frees up your focus to investigate the cause

user139252
Like applying pressure to a wound while you wait for medical attention.

Do you do that?
I won't care about the cause if the problem is not there anymore.

user139252
Then you are short sighted as well as insulting.

Am I insulting the problem?

user139252
6:27 AM
If it goes away and you don't investigate the cause,it is likely to happen again and further frustrate you.

To clarify, I am absolutely only taking about linux problems.

user139252
Linux problems are the only problems I have. I've been windows free at home for over 10 years, and at work officially for one year.

That's a place I would like to work. Can't imagine a place where this is no Windows over here.

user139252
I'm the one who convinced my company's It department to switch the schools to Ubuntu

How did that work out? Can't believe they had some sense.

user139252
6:31 AM
I mainly did it through a financial argument.

So, they put Ubuntu in every school computer after that?
That's a huge achievement. I would be proud of myself.

user139252
We finished our supply contract with Hp, they were going to buy new Win 8 Pcs from Dell for all of the school sites

Does the school have big pockets?

user139252
It also meant purchasing new licenses for Office.

Instead, you let them replace Windows with Ubuntu on the same hardware?

user139252
6:35 AM
I showed them similar specs on Ubuntu machines,and put together a training workshop on it,and they were able to shave off about 15K on the purchase

@HeatherBrown you rock ! awesome job !

@HeatherBrown Does it mean new hardware though?

user139252
Yes, we did get new hardware.

👍
OK, where were we?

user139252
I was... Heading to bed due to jet lag. California to Pennsylvania time change is weird. It's 1am and I need sleep

6:44 AM
@HeatherBrown california to pennsylvania ? It's like what 4 hour difference ?

I am not that good with US geography but I know Cali is in west coast.

7:03 AM
@Rinzwind are you good at troubleshooting GUI issues ?

7:20 AM
@Serg depends on the gui :=)

@Rinzwind that dude has issue with blank Unity desktop, now gets kicked out back to login screen

@jokerdino Nope. Cali is in Columbia :-)

i tried a lot of different things, running out of ideas

@Rinzwind And where is Columbia?

That will be video card related probably.
@jokerdino not in the US :=)

7:22 AM
Ah, that would be Colombia then.

@jokerdino focus on the bigger issue, not on a typo >:-D
(the bigger issue your lack of South America knowledge) :D
ok need some food bbl :D

:P I was totally talking about California but too lazy to type it fully.

I know I know ;-) LOL

@kos @A.B. you guys have any other scripting questions ? i'm kinda bored now, lol

@Serg =\ no

heh
@A.B. what i wanted to ask, how close does my awk script come to fullfilling the requirements ?
I seriously wanna know how is the quality of my answer

@Serg in percent?

well, even in percent

The quality is very good. Your script has never destroyed my file. =) @Serg

10:10 AM
lol, well that's good to know

Good morning friends ! :)

morning

Morning @cl-netbox =)

@Serg good morning :)
@A.B. good morning :)

I'm nervous and I need a cigarette.
and a coffee

10:12 AM
i just had one smoke, but no coffee. It's 3 AM here
Is there a way to get access points list without sudo ? iwlist requires sudo for scanning

Oli
@Serg Surely nmcli has a way.

@Serg I am missing part 2 (remember yesterday ?) ... :)

@Oli anything else besides that ?
i know of nmcli and nm-tool
@cl-netbox that one has been fixed before, that's why i didn't address that
All addressed

Oli
@Serg I'm sure you could interface with NetworkManager directly if you wanted to.

@Serg ah - okay - thanks :)

Oli
10:18 AM
But I don't know why you'd want to with existing options out there (you haven't explained what's wrong with them)

Ehm @A.B. the question is only a dupe is TS confirms he gets similar errors (preferbly using clementine). Though the -answer- indeed will be the method to fix this problem. How about we remove the "clementine" from the title and make it a "how to fix audio'?
regarding: http://askubuntu.com/questions/703820/how-to-fix-broken-music-files

Oli
@ParanoidPanda Just to be fair to what I actually said... I disagreed that it was against the terms and conditions of the site for being able to violate somebody's privacy or to somehow commit a computer/network abuse crime. It's okay for SE. I didn't say anything about it being on-topic for AU.

@Oli what I was trying to play with is a script that "emulates" nm-tool in 15.04, because nm-tool was removed from 15.04 . . . nm-tool gives a list of access points . . . .but the only thing i found so far is iwlist . . . which needs sudo
i remember you posted an answer about setsid or something that changes uid during runtime . . .such as for ping . . .but again, that's kind of dangerous tool to use

@Rinzwind yes, good idea

Oli
But what's wrong with nmcli dev wifi list? nmcli still exists, doesn't it?

10:23 AM
that's true
I guess i was trying to create something that is independent of nmcli . . . or just overthinking it

Oli
As I say, you can. You can write something that interfaces in with the root-run NetworkManager daemon and query it directly... Essentially duplicating what nm{cl,tu}i are doing... I just don't understand why you would.

ok . . . well . . .i guess i'll keep this idea somewhere for later . . .

@A.B. Well, yes, but I'm more looking for answers that aren't upvoted a lot but that still took substantial work to complete!

o/ Mr. Vorlon

@NathanOsman: I'm impressed! I just got a notification bar that the chat status script location has changed!

@cl-netbox Guten Morgen!
And 'morning everyone else too!

@Fabby Gut geschlafen ?

@kos Meh... That was only the fake shipment they intercepted. My other shipment arrived already! :D :D :D
@cl-netbox Sehr Gut! ;-)

@Fabby Nice to hear this ! :)

O_o
why i cannot ping a repo ?

10:41 AM
._.

@Serg You cannot ping a protocol

slaps serg upside the head
You ping a server, not a URL.

@Serg try ping ppa.launchpad.net

ouch . . . .OK, but why ?
that responds

Cause ping is its own protocol

10:42 AM
@Serg because it's a document, not a server???

linux.die.net/man/1/httping might work the way you expect it

That would be like: Why can't I send a mail to gmail.com?
you send a mail to a person, and you ping a server...
you don't ping a document! :P

OK . . . so . . .how do we check if a repo is up ?

But ping uses ICMP and says "hey dude MARRRCOOOOOO" and the other server goes POOOLOOOOO.

@Serg open it in a browser?
@JourneymanGeek ping says ping and the server says pong!
:D

10:44 AM
And if you send that to a web server, it assumes its aramic instead of english, tears it up burns it and sets it on fire to make tea.
@Fabby yeah. But that's clearly aramaic for marco and polo.

Oookay . . . so . . . i can wget a repo page . . . .

@Ravan I could, but I have no time to investigate this, but you're on the right track @ParanoisPanda... Ask your friends for and then search for the full IP address and then WireShark it and you'll find out.
@JourneymanGeek You surprise me every time, not only with your technical, but also your generic knowledge!

@ParanoidPanda: 2 lines up. I misspelled your handle.

Q: How to limit port range in Ubuntu 14.04?

Tamim Ad DariI want to limit source port range in my ubuntu machine upto 20000 , that means no Application should be able to use port higher than that.I have this command in mind iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp --sport 20001:65535 --dport 20001:65535 -j DROP But , wouldn't this drop all packets rather than limi...

Q: Why does my camera not show up in /dev although it does in dmesg? (Possible Ubuntu regression.)

spraffA while ago I could plug in my Canon via USB and it would get mounted as an external drive. Nothing has been reconfigured in the camera, but now if I plug it in $> dmesg [103943.225623] usb 1-2: new high-speed USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd [103943.430666] usb 1-2: New USB device found, idVe...

4:15 PM
@Oli: Ok, but I think that as I am doing the investigation using Ubuntu and its tools that it is on-topic here. But, do you think that it is 'too broad' as some have said?

user136984
@Fabby: Ok, so far I have nobody on my Tox contact list apart from some of the guys here, so I will probably have to convince one of my Skype loving friends to get Tox so that I can try it out... :D

@Serg Please start the next bounty =)
@Sneetsher Thx for the answer. Do you have a GitHub account?

hey guys... just a quick doubt to clarify
askubuntu.com/q/698342/179042 <-- I saw closing votes to this question

not sure why but it looked like it need an edit.. other than, the question looks okay to me..
since I'm new to reviewing... is this common?

@cl-netbox: Hello! :)

Hi all - this is a debian thing, but considering the shared past and present, I was wondering if some guru could take a look at serverfault.com/questions/739543/…

@Mateo erg you pasted the wrong link...

Really freaking confused on this one

@Cenoc huh, reminds me of the new rootless thing on OSX...

4:48 PM
@Mateo how so?

@Mateo why are you replying to yourself?

there is a new thing that prevents you from editing certain system files even with sudo on el capitan
@Zacharee1 I pasted a wrong link

@Mateo ah
@Mateo That's pretty annoying. Why'd they do that?

well, you know apple...

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

4:51 PM
@Mateo ah well I can access it with sudo, it's more of a seemingly weird group thing with unix sockets

@Zacharee1 probably the same reason the charge port is on bottom of the new magic mouse

lol
And the Macbook with one USB-C

@A.B. yes under same username

@Cenoc is this file on another computer other than the one you are using?
is sockets remote?

@Mateo nope, same server

4:55 PM
well, over my head

@Mateo thanks for trying thouugh
