Rats bleed. So do images, in certain contexts.

@TheX they have a cream for that.

1:05 AM
So, wow... With users having a phone - RSS Feeds scope is around 300 users

\o/
That reminds me... I haven't checked on mine in a long time.

Feeds? or your phone?

Ubuntu touch apps

Oh, so you're getting 100% user penetration rimshot just kidding. Seriously though, 300 people on a relatively small user group is pretty impressive.

Yeah, I'd hope they had at least a 100 phones for each flash sale...

1:13 AM
So playing with anything new?

Um, got gdrive compiled on raspi1 and set up a cron and startup script for the media TV at the church, and the slideshow auto refreshes what changes
So, now I can just dump images to a folder on my phone and done.

Well that's fun I guess. I'm currently writing a layer to move all the data for my csv thing to sql. Easier to interact with various things that way.
Not feeling tip top for almost a week now, so I think I'm taking some sick time. Should let me get bored enough to get REALLY productive.

So, that was cool, they also did a page to "request resources" on the planning center thing we use so we get when and how long an image should be up - so not quite like concerto... but close enough
@hbdgaf Hm, yeah. Must be something about spring, I wasn't the best this past week either.

Well there's a bout of pink-eye going around here, so staying out could be considered self preservation.
I'm bad about touching my face... and there are so many contact surfaces... so yeah. Just staying away from people even though I'm doing pretty poorly could be good.

Brought home another computer for my cloud, we did spring cleaning, and they found a old celeron, I need to put some more time on that project
It is taking up some serious space under my desk right now...

1:25 AM
your home cloud? yeah that one should be interesting. we finally got a pseudo fixed paint machine.
no software updates, so you have to do everything on the matcher and send it to the mixer, but who am i to call the repair techs deplorable.

I shouldn't laugh... but I am.

it's totally okay. that was the desired response.
unrelated: I went hulk earlier and accidentally ripped the cabinet door clean off and a screw or two out of the can crusher...

@JourneymanGeek its not an infection or STD guys...lol

@TheX you don't have to explain it. in fact, please don't.

Particle board, or not attached well?

1:31 AM
four really short screws.

@hbdgaf but I need too...
You see the problem is...

real wood, but short screws... like half an inch or less. when i saw them i was impressed that the door stayed on as long as it did.

I am too cool for school, and I am starting my new job at...a...school on Wednesday...

glad the penicillin worked ;P

@TheX my mailbox is empty, stickers en-route. They should be there fast you are surprisingly close by...

1:36 AM
who knew the japanese steakhouse white sauce was supposed to be cooked on to the meat? food.com/recipe/sakura-sauce-18260

@TheX that sounds cool, doing tech stuff there?
Aw... "Grounded cloud" is already a name for something... Was thinking of trying to blog my endevor

The fog in my house. Since a local cloud is really just fog anyway.

"Bug bomb" ;p

that too.

That might be funny because of the old hardware

1:51 AM
I can just hear someone yelling "STIRLING!!!!!!!!"

L-og local fog
Logo is a log with a branch that reaches into the clouds - says " The Log Log"

the clog log. cl(oud)(f)og log. no wait... i have something for this

Hm, that one gets into plumber territory

:)

2:11 AM
Clout Flaute?
Mmm, project status - delayed in naming stage indefinitely ;p

Hey!
I'm trying to do a clean install of Ubuntu on my desktop and I got the warning /dev/sda contains GPT signatures, indicating that it has a GPT table....

What's up?

It's asking if this is a GPT partition table, what does that mean?

Is this a laptop?

Desktop

2:17 AM
And are you dual booting?

Currently I just have windows, I want to wipe everything and install Ubuntu.

Including windows right? Do you know if the board has a bios or uefi?

I don't know...
And yes including windows
How could I check?

Hm...
This looks revelant:

Sup.

2:21 AM

Q: GPT partition table warning message during install of ubuntu

user127455/dev/sda contains GPT signatures indicating that it has a GPT table. However, it has a fake msdos partition table as it should. Perhaps it was corrupted? Is this a GPT partition table? So, that's the error message and this is during my first OS install of Ubuntu. Can close the message box. Can't...

Yay, you're back @TheX

Kind off

I'm just about to leave...

Thanks @Mateo

On my phone. It is stuck in desktop mode. Very hard.

Ah, what if you back out to the chat room list, the mobile button is easier to hit there

2:32 AM
I guess someone might find it hilarious:

2:45 AM
@hbdgaf lol. kinda, yeah :)

2:57 AM
@Mateo I tried that... it i sstuck...
but now I am on my wifes laptop
@NathanOsman where did you order you Pi from?

Element14.
I think the company might be called "Newark" in the US.

out of stock
oh wait

@NathanOsman I can buy one from them and pay 42 or get it from amazon prime for 44...

You've already paid an arm and a leg if you have Amazon Prime :P

3:04 AM
no my wife did

Well still... I have no idea why Amazon would have it in stock.

They don't....
it is in the market place

<-- doesn't know what that is

basically 3rd party sellers...

3:21 AM
@NathanOsman so if I buy a pi what shall I do with it?

Whatever you want... the RPi2 will run the upcoming Windows 10, so who knows what it will be useful for.
For me, it makes a nice, cheap embedded computer for monitoring, remote access, etc.
And it's got an ARMv7 CPU, so that's cool.

Does Ubuntu support ARMv7?
I forget which one it was.

3:36 AM
Yeah it does
I think the original pi had an older arm arch
I'm pondering getting an odroid c1
Vaguely cheaper (due to shipping), slightly faster, sort of has one more port

4:11 AM
The original RPi had an ARMv6 chip. The Ubuntu ARM release targets ARMv7, so only the RPi 2 can run Ubuntu unmodified.
(Once could theoretically recompile all of the packages in the archive for ARMv6, but... not worth the effort, IMHO.)

5 hours later…
9:17 AM
@NathanOsman Sometimes amazon prime goes free to students anticipating capturing textbook and school supply sales

2 hours later…
11:35 AM
@hbdgaf so game idea, what if the flags changed to trails that made walls, similar to trom - but it would just make more wall running/jumping along the path.
Arg "tron" autocorrect....

1 hour later…
12:56 PM
wonder if canonical has anyone watching tags on stuff for the bq phone, I'm seeing a lot of questions that would be better for direct support for the phone...

1:06 PM
@Mateo I don't think that would work though. what about height and vaulting down particular paths?

1:18 PM
you would have to be sure that that you would be able to jump over them or slide under, and if you take the high road, it would create a easier path over a jump for someone to wall-walk

1:59 PM
@hbdgaf so kindof like:
wall running would create a stairway+path, going straight up a wall jumping point that could lead the next player up to the top of a building

I like the flag chase idea, but I don't think I'm on board with this one.

3:03 PM
hi...

3:20 PM
Yeah, flag capture would probably be more fun, throwing out different ideas seeing if they stick

user136984
4:17 PM
About this, if you want to release your package, should you change that value that they say should be set to 'unstable' to 'stable', or what do you do? :)

user136984
@Fabby: Do you know? :)

5:45 PM
'allo all
@NathanOsman I wouldn't hold your breath too much for awesomeness. (Surface RT anyone?)

[ SmokeDetector ] Offensive body detected: Unmet dependencies by Lucius on askubuntu.com

Sorry @SmokeDetector you missed.

Thanks @hbdgaf, I was just fixing the bad edit I'd made

@RPiAwesomeness A couple more months, and I'll get a tablet kit sort of thing for the rpi2.
@terdon np
What's up with AKS thinking I put foul language in? @terdon

6:02 PM
@hbdgaf Huh?

nm, he pointed out something in the revision history that i didn't see b/c it was a proposed edit i accidentally steam-rolled when i changed the code block.

@hbdgaf Oh, I thought I'd approved and improved the proposed edit.

somehow shit made it's way back in.
maybe i started editing and it was cached, so we had different starting points or something.

Yes, 'cause yours was submitted just after mine I guess.

Yeah, I didn't even get the "an edit has been made please refresh" js callback
^^ awesome

6:19 PM
lol

7:01 PM
@hbdgaf Eh? Tablet Kit?
@hbdgaf xD

user136984
@hbdgaf :D :D :D

@RPiAwesomeness There's an hdmi/usb touchscreen jobadoo for the rpi. I've been saying we need hackable tablets for a while - and the nexus is pretty close, but we need something a bit more buy your own partsy.

@hbdgaf Oh cool :)
Wasn't the KDE group trying to do that for a while? Or was that just a fully open hardware tablet, not hackable.

The KDE crew might have been lusting after it, but it's just a thing now. You can get all the parts.... without supply chain issues or having to source from someone that doesn't speak english.

7:31 PM
There's always the Jolla tablet.
Their website is a work of art.

user136984
What do people think of my new profile picture? :D

it say sad panda to me.

user136984

user136984
I think that it looks like Darth Vader a little... :P :D

user136984
7:52 PM
About this, if you want to release your package, should you change that value that they say should be set to 'unstable' to 'stable', or what do you do? :)

I can help answer that one.
The "unstable" there doesn't refer to the package, but rather to the release - Debian "unstable" in this case.
If you have a package in the Debian archives, that field is set to the release, such as "wheezy", or in the case of Ubuntu, something like "trusty".
I'd just leave it at "unstable". That's what I do for all of my packages.

user136984
@NathanOsman So if I want to release this package on my own PPA do I just leave the value as 'unstable'?

Yes.

user136984
Ok

Well...
Actually...
If you're using dput to upload the package, you want to set it to the release you're targetting.
If you're using the daily builds on Launchpad, "unstable" is fine.

user136984
7:57 PM
@NathanOsman What if you are not in particular targeting any release but using the dput option?

You must target a release.
Each package targets exactly one release.

user136984
@NathanOsman Ok, so do I then create a new package for every release?

If you want to target multiple releases, you'll have to upload the package once for each release, though you can omit the source code for the second, third, etc. upload.
@Toroidal Here's what I do:
Once I've got the package in a good state, I make multiple copies of the directory containing the source code and the debian packaging and change the release in the changelog in each of them.
For the first release, use "debuild -S" and then for the remaining builds, use "debuild -S -sd".
The -sd option omits the .orig.tar.gz source archive from the upload.

user136984
@NathanOsman Ok, thanks! :)

Glad I could help.
It took me a long time to get it all figured out myself :P
I'm always glad to help save someone else some time.

user136984
8:02 PM
@NathanOsman: I am also having to do my readme file at the moment, but my application doesn't have any options as such and I am very confused about what I am meant to put in these readme file templates. I am looking at this for the readme file but still really unsure about what to put in each field of the template, do you know any guides or anything that would be more helpful than this? :)

user136984
It says to go to man(7) to get that information, but I'm not really sure how I get there...

The manpage?
Oh boy...

user136984
I think so...

@NathanOsman I just have launchpad do that for me.

Those are very difficult to write. If you don't need one, don't add one.

8:05 PM
oh and that --^

But if you do... we wrote an article about it.

which I followed :D

speaking.. My package stopped working. I need to set some time aside to file a bug report and work it out.

user136984
@NathanOsman My application carries out a rather basic task and thus does not actually have any options, so do I definitely need to write a man page? Because I would really love not to! :D Too much hard work it gives me, and after reading 1/4 of a page about it my head starts to hurt, but then I have been reading about packaging and legal stuff all day! :D :P

8:11 PM
Unless you want it included in the archives (which is a very complex process), no, you don't need a manpage.

user136984
8:25 PM
@NathanOsman Ok, good, I will remove those templates then, ghastly things! :D :P

There's really only five required files: "changelog", "compat", "control", "copyright", and "rules".
Well, and source/format.

user136984
@NathanOsman Oh, yes, and about the copyright file, as said here a lot more information needs to be included, but I'm still confused about what this information should be: lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/03/msg00023.html

user136984
Are there any better guides on this stuff?

user136984
:)

Everyone is confused about that one :P
I can show you what I do.

user136984
8:35 PM
@NathanOsman Ok, thanks! :)

@Toroidal I'm not a developer any more... I'm still learning the ins and outs of Ubuntu before I start developing again... Now I'm still at the bash level (and a beginner at that AFAI consider myself...)
By the way: you look fat with that avatar! :D

user136984
@Fabby I rather thought I looked like Darth Vader at first... :P

user136984
:D

user136984
Or at least a storm trooper...

Nah! You look like a fat girl hiding behind a picture of a panda...
>:-)

user136984
8:43 PM
@Fabby Oh come on, not that again! :D :P

I LOVED THAT GAME OMG

@hbdgaf IKR!
I'm not a gamer but I loved Descent..

I'm so not contributing to that kickstarter though. Some indie studio could do the engine moving parts as a clone of the original on UE4 and say "WAAAAAAT we built it. Just write some levels all you crazy people. After we have a working game and levels, we'll come up with some story line from in game asset sales" or something.
Oh noes, they're going subscription based after doing the kickstarter. That makes me sad. You do one or the other. see "5 years of maps and ships" you either crowd fund it and make it free to play or you fund it yourself and make it monthly subscriptions.

@Toroidal But you smiled again today! ;-)

@hbdgaf aww. I hate subscriptions.
I don't much like MMOs either.

user136984
9:02 PM
@Fabby Yes, I did. :D

@Seth I don't mind subscriptions if there's constant new content. I mean, if I get a new game every 6 months for ten bucks a month, then it's worth it. Nothing ever makes that cut though.

user136984
Does anyone have any ideas on this? :)

Q: Launch nautilus in location navigated to in Terminal

ToroidalI find it rather hard to travel through my system using nautilus and much prefer using the cd etc commands in Terminal to get around my system, but I find that sometimes I do need to look at a list of files and folders in nautilus as ls just isn't doing it for me and maybe there is such a large n...

@hbdgaf Oh so true!

@hbdgaf exactly.

9:11 PM
I'ld rather just play open world games or games with some modicum of replayability instead, like mirror's edge, morrowind, or well you get the idea.

@hbdgaf I love those too. Skyrim, Dragon Age. But currently Bloodborne is The Game for me :=D

user136984
What is this file and do I need it?

@Rinzwind I have to do some software stuff to get my rig back up to speed in order to actually play that one.
I've been really lazy recently.

@Toroidal Thanks! ;-)

user136984
@Fabby You're welcome! :)

9:18 PM
If you want the steampunk icons too, I'l be happy to send them to you!

user136984
@Fabby Ok, where do you get all of the icons from? :)

I can email them to you or you can look for the following unique UIDs in google images:

@hbdgaf I am having trouble with the 2nd boss in Bloodborne. He is 4-0 up against me :P

pendragon1966
yereverluvinuncleber

9:21 PM
no seriously... i play FPS to that all the time, and it's an oddly cathartic experience.

These are the artists who created them.
I just resized/centered all of them into /usr/share/pixmaps

user136984
@Fabby Cool, do they do other sorts of icons too?

user136984
:)

There's tons of icons out there and you can build anything you want!
Star wars, Steam punk, erotic ...
Anything!

user136984
How about panda ones? :P :D

9:24 PM
(though your mum would probably take away your computer if you use a huge pair of t!ts as the FireFox icon!)

user136984
:D :D :D

I'm not really iinterested that much in fat girls
Chubby is the max for me...

Mmmh... Maybe "voluptuous"...

I've got your pair of tits right here ;) upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fb/Great-Tit.jpg

9:25 PM
@hbdgaf :D :D :D

user136984
:D

I got it immediately. Sparrow, pheasant, bluetit, ... are words I know...

Yeah, but I had to have two of them to make the joke... and it wouldn't let me just hammer the image twice back to back.

when you start with stuff like "Northern gannet", I have no clue any more...
It's till advanced English, but I got it this time... ;-) If you start difficult stuff like "what's the difference between a starling and a wren?"
Erm, I dunno... They're both birds?
but I don't know which is which in English...
(obviously, I do, but less known races I might not even know whether it's a bird or a mammal)
And that is why no one ever can have full bilingual capabilities...

My dad had the shit literally scared out of him by an egret. It perched on his porch next to the hottub and fanned out when he came out late one night. I might have shat myself too.

9:33 PM
Not even between Flemish and Dutch, who share a common dictionary @Rinzwind
@hbdgaf :D Me too!

user136984
Well, goodnight guys, I'm off to bed now! ;)

user136984

9:53 PM
So, just cemented my call out for the next three days. Now I have to do something. Forces self in to a corner on purpose.

@Seth weren't two or three groups trying to remake that game? With this one unclear if the have the rights or something...
Another one being "Sol contegency"
Oh... That one got a takedown... Doesn't look good for this other one...

Q: How to duplicate a question on another site in the Stack Exchange network?

FabbyI just saw this question which has a perfect answer here on Super User. However, trying to duplicate it inside the Stack Exchange network gave an error "The answer must exist on Ask Ubuntu" so I just linked to Super User without copying the answer. Good enough? Or copy-paste and Source?

@blade19899 back up you turkey ;)

@hbdgaf XD

10:52 PM
@RPiAwesomeness: Do you know what OS the Raspberry pi runs? Can you run pure Ubuntu on it?

@blade19899 lol that's a dirty chicken

@hbdgaf: I put up my initial implementation:

@Fabby: The Pi 2 does ubuntu

Thanks!

The 'official' OS for first generation pi is raspian

10:57 PM
Ah! :-)

@NathanOsman I sent you the initial gist - I'm working on something else now for a time. I need to finish it in like 3 days. Hopefully I'll lock myself in a room and get bored enough.

Well, mine isn't complete yet either. Just so nobody thinks I forgot about it.

I knew you didn't. It is an interesting problem. Could even be an interesting interview problem. Take how Mateo searched for academic research and we both tried to implement the human solver solution. We think differently than Mateo, but that's okay.
p/ @Lucio

I like that nooo button :)

We both do.
And even though I just pinged you I need a nap when I feel like this youtube.com/watch?v=s9R_LU2MM64

11:07 PM
that's ok buddy. thanks for the ping
nice song btw

@hbdgaf I think a lot of people think different from me ;p

@Fabby: least with the rpi B+/first and 1.5th gen, raspian is pretty well optimised for how shitty the HW is.
is still trying to decide on the odroid :/

beware @blade19899

11:12 PM
Basically its the equivalent of a pi2, with a slightly faster processor, and one more usb OTG port

@Lucio OMG
Kill that dude! Now!

Oh, and gigabit ethernet

@blade19899 lol

@Lucio that's brilliant! I never thought of that, I have the power!

Wait - what's this about gigabit ethernet?

11:13 PM
@terdon I do not :(

Well, the next one to die is Mary.

in the pro side, that doesn't affect me

11:26 PM
@Lucio Belgians! ;-)

ikr

11:39 PM
@terdon That had no effect on me, as I couldn't care less :P

@Seth There's no character named Mary. None that I remember anyway :)

@terdon lol
I see what you did there ;)

:)
