Looks like http://knoppix.net was compromised.
(Warning: don't try to load the page...)
I'm still trying to figure out exactly what's going on there.

12:36 AM
Anybody knows why rooms I starred on chat.stackoverflow.com don't come up in the favourite room list here?

1:28 AM
Indeed :D
:P wonderful. More star-spam :(

Sup?

Well, I took an practice AP microeconomics test, did some Physics, found some sources for my research paper, and won two rounds of competitive CS:GO.
I'm feeling pretty good about today.
Oh, and Algebra 2 as well as winning the game we played in Gym and finishing up my personal finance class.

@ByteCommander: different servers

Anyone know how I would tell the way that I installed my NVIDIA drivers? I think I did it via xorg-edgers PPA, but I have this feeling I may not have and might have done it via the installer from NVIDIA...

You play CS:GO? (yes that was pretty much all I got out of that)

1:39 AM
@TheX Indeed.
Currently unranked though, sadly :(
Almost 30-bombed my first game though :D

I think I have counter strike, but I don't remember which one..

Actually, there was two of us who almost 30-bombed. The other guy had a final total of 28 IIRC and I had 25.
We won 16-5.

Oh it is GO....
but I am pretty bad...

We should play some time :D
Our CT side was very impressive, had to re-take B bombsite several times.

it is among the 63 steam games I don't have time to play...
What is your steam name? I will add you.

1:41 AM
If you want to get better, watch WarOwl. He's incredibly talented and knows the game, especially strats, incredibly well.
I'll tell you on your MC server. Don't want to post it in public chat :P

Oh okay sure...

FYI: 15.04 final beta is out.
And I was about to say that a couple minutes ago when my phone hard-reset for no reason.

@Seth Thanks..

Q: Can I print via CUPS on ARM device without drivers by installing CUPS onto an x86 server with drivers?

dylanweberI just spent a few frustrating hours troubleshooting on a Raspberry Pi 2 only to find out that it is impossible to print to my Canon printer natively using CUPS. Thankfully, my printer supports Google Cloud Print and I could just use a nice tool called CUPS Cloud Print to redirect my printing job...

Q: MY PC HAS BEEN HACKED AND I NEED YOUR HELP!

Douglas JonesMy Ubuntu is receiving inbound traffic while my PC is disconnected from Ethernet and WIFI, so my question is, how am I receiving inbound traffic? I even have a firewall that is turned on. The information below is optional to read; however, it will give you a better understanding about my problem...

@NathanOsman yay

@Rinzwind This guy is clearly delusional...
Nothing you say will make him change his ways and he needs professional help,
but he is on disability, so he probably is...

Q: How to help a paranoid, delusional user?

FabbyEarlier today, this question was asked and contained a delusional rant about the KKK and the FBI and looked a bit like an episode of the X-files... My question is simple: Should we help this user (by calming him down as Andrew T. did) or close these kind of questions?

@Oli

@Rinzwind: 0_0

@DTSCode Not sure I understand... Can you install the package into Ubuntu while running Mint?

Q: How to set the monitor brightness gracefully at boot time?

Kevin Dong Nai JiaI've been using a loop that contains xrandr --output VGA1 --brightness 0.3 in a bash script which will automatically execute right after logging in by gnome-session-properties (a.k.a. That had a team of hackers sent by his dad to sabatoge his migration to Linux

Q: How to responsibly direct users with serious mental health issues?

That may well not be the case here but it never hurts to be too careful or considerate when somebody's well-being is at stake.

@muru I'm noticing that too, but I haven't noticed them coming from a single person.. Perhaps the system is finally working? :D
lol @Mateo putting it that way makes it sound so much sillier..

@Seth I'd think I'd rather believe his dad is Steve blamer, he stole top secret windows 8 plans that would have made the os amazing. So this is the reason he has to dislike Linux so much, this would explain the relentless hacking, and give us a reason to help - at least it could get some really good interest on skeptics or security.se

Hello guys what is happening?

Not much :)

Not much. Okay! Don't worry. I am going to ask a question. Will you answer?
You went away. Okay! I will try some other time. How good of u!

Still around ;)
Ask away, there are many people around :)
I'm on my phone so might take a min or two between talking here.

Thank you. What I wanted to ask is that there is any difference between zorin os 9 and ubuntu except the display environment.

5:56 PM
I'm sure there a quite a few changes here and there
One of the major things would be that we don't support derivatives on ask Ubuntu unless they are official flavours

6:13 PM
I'll tell you guys what's up... GitHub got hammered this morning with a massive DDoS attack.
And when we're talking about GitHub, we're talking about "huge".
And Slack had their database breached.
Just a typical Friday :|

6:46 PM
Raspberry Pi 2 has been ordered.
I'm also getting three copper heatsinks.

7:06 PM
bloodborne... update file of 3Gb ... wth

Does anyone understand the concept of a delta update anymore???

@Oli Thanks again!

@Oli According to the most up-voted answer, we didn't do too bad! Thanks again... (I owe you an entire evening out in the pub by now with all the stuff you've done for me.) ;-)

hi @hbdgaf , I got your stickers in an envelope and in the mailbox should be there sometime next week, and @TheX yours got sent as well.

\o/ stickers.

so, I had an idea while working this morning

<- is listening

remember how your were doing a mirrors edge type toturial game on ue4 - what if you combined a type of flag football multiplayer game, was thinking about characters running around with 3-4 feet long flags hooked to their waist
trying to take the other players flags

That would be super easy, but then you have to rig and animate all the models or find assets ready to snap in to ue4. The flag part is super easy though. It's just a rear facing invisible child collision box

8:46 PM
Hmm... Twitter is rejecting status updates with identical message body.
How many different permutations are there of "site xxx.com is down"?
:P

Anyone see the github attempted DDoS? article

3 hours ago, by Nathan Osman
I'll tell you guys what's up... GitHub got hammered this morning with a massive DDoS attack.

thought it might be fun as the flag would do a bit of path following on your character, so the more jumps and turns, the harder it would be to pull your flag

Oh, well that makes it harder since your dealing with really small collision stuffs.

kind of like shinobi's scarf

8:52 PM
yeah, i get the idea. it would be harder to do. you'ld also have to have a "grab" button and a reticle and do a little raycasting.

hm, yeah... that would be tricky.

it would be interesting if you worked in either the american flag football or freerun race/chase angle. freerun race/chase could be really interesting if you got points for winning the race and worked with "do you really want to be in front? not really"

hm, the person in the back could have more flags in the end because no one is taking them

yes, i was thinking a delay on the spawn of the flag though, so it only pays to be in front when you can take different paths or break away.
then you'ld have to have a "speed burst" power up though.

hm, trick based combo bonus or mario cart type pickups?

8:57 PM
Wow, that GitHub attack was something else.

either way could work, but trick based would be more fun and engaging.
@NathanOsman yeah - you read the article?

Just finished it.

Yeah. I was somewhere between "Wow, that's evil" and "Nicely done"

I'd be curious to hear what kind of traffic they were dealing with (like 5 Gbps, etc.).

It'ld be nice to see those numbers. I imagine Github will blog about it. The alert trick was also nice on Github's part.
Would also be nice to see the math on "And this is the traffic we WOULD have been looking at without the alert stall"

9:01 PM
Yeah.

Only two projects got hammered though according to the article. Sounds more like a test drive to me. What if they had put in a few thousand URLs for popular projects...

9:14 PM
@Fabby Are you there, mon ami?

@chili555 Oui mon cher?
(sorry to have missed that: I just turned my head for a minute)

I tried to get puffin at several places but it is evidently a bit seasonal. As usual, I was there at just the wrong time!

Oooh! :(
I didn't know it was seasonal...
Well, we live and we learn...
Had fun?

The cod and Brennivin were excellent, though!

National Geographic quality pictures again?

9:25 PM
Very much! I shall email the link.

Brandy in Icelandic!
Just a bit different from the brandy you're used to, no?
>:)
More like vodka!

Yes, indeed! Kept me nice and warm! Email sent.

Brennivin literally means "burnt wine"
Did anyone tell you?
Looking!

No. First I heard.

out of the blue I wonder if we'll ever get the Duskwatch movie of the Nightwatch/Daywatch trilogy.

9:33 PM
:D
Fantastic pics! Like I suspected: NatGeo quality!

Thank you so much. I am humbled.

"suspected" sounds pejorative...
what would be a good word? (except "thought")

anticipated

You should feel the opposite of humbled...
Yes!
That's the word on the tip of my tongue!
THX!
@chili555 You should feel proud...
(but then that's one of the 7 capital sins, right?)
You should feel good about it! :D
Vin = wine
Brenni = burn
(and google translate is useless)

LOL! Like Ubuntu, I do it for the fun of it and it's gratifying when someone finds the result good.

9:38 PM
:-)
The best life there is!

I'm doing a static build of Qt 5 on my Pi.
Could take days to compile... :P

Doing something you like and advancing the human race at the same time...
;-)

Ideally so.

Now, if the pay would be better, it would be the perfect job! ;-)
:D

LOLOL!
...and the hours...

9:39 PM
:D:D:D
I don't mind the hours...
It's something I currently have time for
and hopefully in the near future will not have time for any more...
(or max 1H/day)
And I'm still learning a lot...

I hope all of us are.

@chili555 If you would take someone into a chat room, I'd like to be invited as well and see you at work and learn some more
(about the way you go about solving the issue)

If I can, I will.

Yeah, because our hours don't overlap so good...
BTW: the job in the South-East is a nono...
They preferred an American with international exposure to
an internationalist with domestic exposure...
:-)
I'm going for a bad habit and then back to looking at pics and then some more Questions...

I hope, in the end, that missing that one will leave you available for an even better opportunity ahead.

9:44 PM
As usual: nice talking to a real gentleman...
:-)

Likewise.

That's a game called "life"... ;-)

o/ @Takkat - been a bit of time. How goes it?

@hbdgaf Hi fairly well here.
1 week off work just started \o/

I have some of that coming soon, but it's too slow getting here, since I've been running double-time for over six months.

9:51 PM
aaand this error "Failed to retrieve share list from server: No such file or directory" stops me from accessing my directory on the machine my wife works atm.

I hope that was a joke. If you read it a certain way - it can make you laugh pretty hard.

so I need all my memory to remember that I need to put two " in my code for gettzing rid of a bug.
oh how much difference this two " will make - sigh.
No more bug ( at least not that I am aware of )
Tomorrow I will have no time for coding - visiting friends in Switzerland.

I like some things about Switzerland from an academic perspective, but I've never been there.

It is like everywhere in the world, only that people speak differently.
<-- always thinks that the world is the same everywhere if we look close enough

Yes and no. The philosophy of putting 5 languages on a product as opposed to crying about putting a second one (people get upset about that in the US mostly in areas with poor breeding). Y'all is in Murica. Speak the English - sort of thing. And yes, I'm making light of my native country. It's not just the speaking differently.

9:59 PM
I always was disappointed when abroad - the difference was less than thought.

Made it to Italy once. There were differences that I liked, and there were some I didn't. It's sort of a finding the place that suits you the best thing I think. I'm not sure a lot of people, myself included, have the opportunity to do that.

10:26 PM
So funny! Both Oli and Terdon on the same Q&A! askubuntu.com/questions/599840/…

I read that as "Don't post an answer here unless you REALLY want to box"

11:08 PM
I need to overclock my Pi. Badly.

11:31 PM
How do i create a unity web app? Trying to make my own website appear just like hotmail, gmail etc.. in the launcher

11:58 PM
@blade19899 it is just a desktop file

@Mateo You can add it in the system more right? the messagin menu, sound menu etc.. Right?
