5:01 PM
Hello :)

5:12 PM
@Amjith hmm. Have you tried the solution I linked? re-installing ffmpeg, removing openshot, removing openshot configuration files etc?
@cl-netbox hi

@Anwar Hi Anwar ! :) How are you ? Everything good ? :)

@Anwar, I have installed ffmpeg and tried to install some of the above listed softwares. none worked and same error as before

@cl-netbox sort of :)
@Amjith what did you do actually? be precise please

@Anwar sort of ? what's not so good ?

@cl-netbox there are many :)

5:20 PM
@Amjith Hi ! :) I read your question ... when you don't add more precise information, it'll be impossible to help you - sorry ! :)
@Anwar personal things ? important bad things ? hopefully not ! solvable problems ?

@cl-netbox Thanks for asking, and your concern. Answers include both yes and no :)

Q: Microphone NOT working on Ubuntu 16.04.02TLS GNOME

Brian BriuToday I decided I will install Ubuntu 16.04 alongside my Windows 10 in a dual-boot system. After installing everything, I decided to install Discord to talk with some friends, then I noticed that my mic wasn't working. I thought that there may be a problem with my Discord install, but there isn't...

I think we've misunderstood this question's intent (not our fault though)

@Anwar if you don't wanna tell me more, it's absolutely okay ... I hope that you can solve the problems soon - good luck for that ! :)

@cl-netbox I can provide more details. Let me know what all?

5:35 PM
@cl-netbox Thanks

@Amjith you need to describe what you exactly did, what you installed and how you installed ... further what exactly doesn't work as expected ... right now it looks like you messed up a lot. :)

@Zanna I think the OP actually wanted this version.

@Anwar You're welcome - honestly meant ! :)

Actually, I am not sure what all I did so far these days. All i know is, I have installed the softwares for video editing OpenShot, Kdenlive or Flowblade via Ubuntu Software center as well as from terminal using sudo apt-get install . They all didnot work. I tried to fix by referring google answers, none helped. So just thought to ask the experts

@Amjith I wanted you to try the last comment in this link answers.launchpad.net/openshot/+question/193044

5:39 PM
@Amjith If all those applications don't work, you are having a serious problem that eventually only can be solved by a complete new clean system installation. :)
@Anwar Did you try what Anwar suggested @Amjith ?

nice. so i should start from beginning to fix a software issue. This is the 2nd time i am going to move to windows or mac. far better to solve software issues or permission issues over there.

I will try Anwar's suggession
@Anwar I will try this later , it needs to restart the machine.

@Amjith Ok. Ping me with the result

Q: Ubuntu Linux - Slow printing with lp command

Barragán LouisenbairnI asked here some months ago how to print and check results with lp command (CUPS) in Ubuntu. After few working around, I was able to print normal text files. I was able to print selecting some options (double sided print, media size, paper tray input, etc.) I got the linux drivers here (PPD fi...

@Anwar you mean my edit misinterpreted it?
@Amjith maybe you have two issues - bus error is very generic

I just accidentally rm'd a file I needed to delete securely...
Is there a way to fix this quickly, or do I just need to clobber all the empty space on the disk?

6:30 PM
Oh Java. You can't even do String.join() until Java 8.

@Zanna No! It was in line with OP's version that was written. I posted it to get feedback on that edit of mine

6:52 PM
My time at @Canonical is sadly coming to an end, but my future with @endlessglobal has me full of excitement! http://mhall119.com/2017/05/endless-possibilities/

@Anwar I think your edit is great. Helps clarify a lot, based on the comments, imho

So many people have left Canonical in the last year and a half it has me worried.

Who is even still there?
maybe AlanPope?

@jokerdino I can think of two people off the top of my head. No, 4. LazyPower, Marco, Alan Pope, and Nick Skaggs.

when did lazypower join Canonical?!
maybe I never knew him as one.

6:56 PM
But we lost Jorge, David (Planella? I don't remember, there are a few Davids), Jono, Michael.. another person I can't remember.
@jokerdino For a while now, I think.
That or he just does snap/juju/container stuff fulltime for fun :P

I know dholbach who left a while ago. Not sure David Planella.
Planella either hasn't updated his Launchpad and Twitter or he is still working in Canonical.
But yeah, a lot of people I kinda knew is no longer working there. :/

@jokerdino Oh right, it was Holbach, not Planella. Couldn't remember.

Daniel I think

Oh. My bad >.<
@jokerdino I mean, change is a good thing, but with so much happening at once it makes me wonder if there is something internal that is driving them out.

I wonder the same.

7:05 PM
Idk if these people need to be in London at all. But I feel like people are leaving London

@Zanna I don't think any of them were. I know Jono, Jorge, and Michael are all stateside.
I dunno about dholbach though.

I think a woman I know who worked for them here also left, but I don't think she left town, so, no correlation found...

dholbach is German.
@Zanna probably Jane the VP?
Popey is probably in London or somewhere in UK.
oh the woman you know.. maybe that's not Jane.

Popey is in the UK somewhere, yes. Not sure it's London but don't all people in the UK live in London? :P

haha, true that.

7:22 PM
haha not quite all

Q: Parsing through a CSV file to add users

SaintLaurentI'm having trouble parsing through a csv file to add users. I wrote a small script to add a list of 1000 users: export IFS=“,” cat users.csv | while read a b c d e f g; do useradd -d -u $a -U $d ; done The CSV file is formatted as: ps2946,male,Phil Harris,Recording,6508 Hollywood Blvd,Nov 1...

Does anyone have a 24 port switch on their home network?

Nope.
I don't have that many devices.

I didn't think I did either...but the raspberry pi's are starting to pile up...

Buy WiFi chips for them :P
They are only capable of 100 Mbps over ethernet anyway.

9:00 PM
@TheWanderer ---^
It implements Android's account provider thing.

Ooh
that's it, just keep doing all the work

Lol.
But seriously, I would like to get some of the basic design hammered out and once that's in place, we can tackle smaller features.
Not only that but of the two of us, I'm the one with an existing working auth implementation :D

iz tru
@NathanOsman you know you can use margins instead of blank Views?

Yes. Is lazy.

will do it

9:14 PM
Also, blank views collapse.
Margins do not.

fixing your LinearLayout>Image+Text too

Wat.

@NathanOsman collapse?

Yes. If I have two boxes with 4px margins, they should collapse to a single 4px space between them.

@NathanOsman instead of having a horizontal LL with text and image inside, you can put drawableLeft in the TextView and get rid of the IV and LL

9:14 PM
With Android, you end up with 8px.

oh I think

@TheWanderer Fair enough, that change makes sense.
Hue. I found a bug in the Android docs.
final Button button = findViewById(R.id.button_id);
is not valid codez

GASP
the docs are horrible though
like srsly
don't even bother with IAPs
ooh subclasses
@NathanOsman we should program this in Xamarin :D

NO.
Native app or nothing.

lolol
I figured that'd get you

9:19 PM
"One does not simple make a non-native app."

oh btw
for future reference because it'll come up
any time you use something like getColor() or getText(), put a getResources() in front of it
AS doesn't tell you, but on 22 and below, you need the getResources()

I usually do:
ContextCompat.getColor(context, etc.);
...since we are using the support library.

I guess either will work

Yup.

but I'm still mad at Android for not telling me that
if (!preferences.getBoolean("isSetup", false)) startActivity(new Intent(this, AuthenticatorActivity.class));
>:D

9:23 PM
That's not how it works.
You need to use AccountManager to see if valid credentials are available.

and login automatically?
I was more trying to annoy you over the one liner if statement

If the user hasn't given valid credentials yet, then it will automatially prompt them for the values.

how

Magic.

oh
we need an IAccountManager service...
and it's a biiiig interface

9:29 PM
Whoa whoa.

not adding it don't worry

Here, let me give you the page that I was using to figure this stuff out.

I'm going to leave the security stuff up to the person with experience

Plus docs and whatnot.

uh oh

9:32 PM
Wat.

nuthin
yeah we're good

@Rinzwind What gets me really though about is that the answer which solved this problem only has 1 upvote and yet the question has 25... Isn't that a bit odd for an answer that is verified to work? I guess maybe it doesn't for everyone but then their issues is different... Strange...

Q: dpkg error code #1 telepathy

Windows 3.1My empathy is screwed up, and no matter what i do i get this error: Errors were encountered while processing: /var/cache/apt/archives/kde-config-telepathy-accounts_4%3a15.12.3-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) root@server:/var/cache/apt/archives# I tri...

dpkg screws up again, this time on my server :(

user136984
@Windows3.1: Have you upgraded your Windows version? Because I'm sure that the version number was lower previously... :D

user136984
Maybe it's just me or you are a different person though! :D

???
@NathanOsman

user136984
Strange...

user136984
Is anyone else getting anything odd with applying their close votes?

10:17 PM
?

user136984
Because it is seriously acting very odd and slow with the whole process of opening the thing and then each button I press takes for ever especially the actual button to close the question... That even failed in one case.

user136984
I guess SE are having server problems though.

user136984
Or at least I heard something about some server issue they were having.

@ParanoidPanda have you checked my question?

user136984
@Windows3.1: Nope

10:19 PM
@ParanoidPanda go dpkg yourself in the ubuntu you empathy :P

user136984
@Windows3.1: Fortunately I have switched to Arch now so dpkg can no longer affect me! >:D

@ParanoidPanda -_-

Traitor!

Heretic!

(I'm kidding of course.)

10:21 PM
(I'm not kidding of course.)

user136984
Freedom!!! :D

i already tried arch
it sucks more than Obama's birth certificate

Freedom would require something without systemd.

lol

user136984
@Windows3.1: No, that's just you. >:P

user136984
10:23 PM
@NathanOsman: There is no requirement to use systemd.

@ParanoidPanda hardware compatibility sucks more than John Podesta's PASSWORD

user136984
@Windows3.1: Maybe that's just your hardware, my hardware has never been so compatible with a Linux distro and that was mostly because it is so old.

user136984
With Ubuntu I could never get the Broadcom wifi drivers working, but on Arch it works like a dream!

user136984
:)

@ParanoidPanda the nice thing about Ubuntu is it works on ANY hardware
PLEASE upvote that post ^

user136984
10:25 PM
@Windows3.1: There are quite a few systems where 16.04 and later versions are completely incompatible with the graphics hardware.

user136984
And I've seen plenty of systems where it doesn't work at all.

user136984
Ubuntu is good for beginners as is noted on my Linux distro sites.

@NathanOsman did you see my question?

Nope.

user136984
Arch is for more advanced users, although in reality it is a very simple system to use, if you know what you are doing. If you don't you won't get anywhere with it.

@TheWanderer Aha!
That's not how it works, BTW. But I guess you can use that for testing.
For now.

10:44 PM
@NathanOsman I actually had a toast come up in the auth activity on pressing submit that said hue^30, but then you made some changes so I overwrote

Lol.

But you did have the wrong button ID (shammme) so I had to fix that

Error:Error converting bytecode to dex:
Cause: Dex cannot parse version 52 byte code.
This is caused by library dependencies that have been compiled using Java 8 or above.
If you are using the 'java' gradle plugin in a library submodule add
targetCompatibility = '1.7'
sourceCompatibility = '1.7'
to that submodule's build.gradle file.
What the heck?
Oh. The library was compiled with Java 8.
ಠ_ಠ
How to fix...
Apparently older versions work.
Lame. C'mon Android, move us to Java 8.

A: dpkg error code #1 telepathy

Artful AardvarkI figured out that the issue was related to this launchpad bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/+bug/1451728 Which was caused by a previous installation of kubuntu-desktop The solution was to run the following as root: dpkg --force-all --purge account-plugin-google dpkg --force-all --p...

check out my solution
@NathanOsman look ok?

Seems alright.

@NathanOsman yeah, hope i dont get 10 thousand downvotes
@NathanOsman wonder why my question was downvoted?

Gah. They deprecated ProgressDialog.
Of all the nerve.

11:26 PM
probably what error messages are going to be looking like in the future

Debian Stretch release set for June 17.

Ubuntu takes the crap out of debian and adds beauty to it
