2:00 AM
No wonder it was slower than dial-up.

xD
I miss dialup

@Zacharee1 get me!

no

or win 3.11 for workgroups

@Zacharee1 I don't miss tying up our one phone line and constantly being disconnected.

What's up?

python challenge

nap time
good night everyone!

night

2:29 AM
wow
the V20 might be LG's big break

eahy
yeah

Hmmmm, I wonder if I can get network working in my VirtualBox installation of Windows 3.11? Don't know if I could even connect to anything anymore.

WAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont believe this....
I got GNOME-software on my Fedora so I click install for an app and it doesnt even ask me for root password, just installs it. I AM NOT USING ROOT ACCOUNT!!! I am on local account!!!

When was the last time you typed in a password for a sudo install?

2:41 AM
never yet on gnome-software
this is my brandy-new install

Ah

that would be a bug then

I had used it with DNF in the terminal earlier
@edwinksl well that's a neat bug :P
dont even need to use sudo password!

oh wait, you did use sudo somewhere else

Ah, OK. I have mainly only used yum and dnf for installs on my work systems.

2:42 AM
in terminal like a half an hour ago

is this just a case of sudo remembering your password for 5 minutes (can't remember the default timeout)

@Terrance RIP yum :( I am forced to use DNF which... well, is ALMOST as good as YUM

But I think it only asks for a password if it has to install something like the kernel update or something.

fedora sudo might be a long time.

2:42 AM
dnf works OK

@Terrance yeah but yum was extra good :P

@Windows3.1 I agree. :)

they are both extremely fast
let me try something

They are also better at getting what they need to install the package with.

[james@localhost ~]$ dnf install rhythmbox
Error: This command has to be run under the root user.
[james@localhost ~]$
so....
why would gnome-software install without asking me?

2:45 AM
Good question

that's a funny one!

I didn't know yum or dnf had per user installs of applications... does it?

@Seth thoughts on the V20?

Man! Takes long enough to get the F5 VPN to connect. UGH!

@Terrance I took that nerd test on your askubuntu profile and I got 91 (you are 84) :D
<a href="http://www.nerdtests.com/ft_nq.php">
<img src="http://www.nerdtests.com/images/ft/nq/bfcfa5649e.gif" alt="I am nerdier than 91% of all people. Are you a nerd? Click here to take the Nerd Test, get geeky images and jokes, and write on the nerd forum!"></a>

2:54 AM
gah.
some leaked userdata is in a Pastebin paste, but i can't see it
yay deletion

@Windows3.1 LOL I used to be a lot nerdier than I am now.
Maybe it's my age catching up to me

@Terrance I bet I got +10 for having hacked/cracked software on my computer

@KazWolfe that xkcd about rope was hilarious
@Windows3.1 on windows 3.1 what was the cracked software? 30 year old softice?

@Windows3.1 Probably

Any paid software I try to crack. I had a cracked windows 8.1 for a while not long ago

2:56 AM
want a challenge, @Windows3.1?
I'll give you 15 serial keys for a product of mine, and I'd like you to give me a new valid one.

what product?

in-house product

don't take the bait. it's an asymmetric key problem

it's not actually

no? well good on ya then

2:58 AM
it's actually really damn insecure
but because it's like coupon codes for a webapp...
so it's sorta security by obscurity, because the decrypt code isn't visible. because if it were... game over.

HAHAHA!! I took the Nerd Quiz again and hit 62 this time. :P

stop bombing that link @Terrance

@KazWolfe lolz

so you interested, @Windows3.1?

if I know what exactly the software is
then I'll consider

3:02 AM
it's a webapp for a game.

mmmmm....

@Terrance I'm pretty sure I got an 80-something on that :p

we generate these codes for promos, that we occasionally give out for whatever.

@Zacharee1 My original is only like 82

My type of cracking is activating winblows trial software
as well as Windows itself

3:03 AM
Like, developing actual cracks or just using KMS software

@Terrance you want higher

@Zacharee1 Nah. I would have to lie to hit higher.

I mean higher is better :p

It's just nerdy stuff.

here's an example key: B50JQ-H3NWX-W01V1-I24MM-IJSOY (worth $21101 in credits)

3:05 AM
The last time I cracked a Windows 7 install I used wpi

thx, using it now

good luck

:p

it was generated using a spec key.
so it doesn't work on the actual platform
type-E keys are unusable
that is a type-E key

Whoever had the idea to run PHP as a FastCGI module in IIS on Server 2012 ought to have their head examined.

3:07 AM
here's another key with the same encoded data: 9OGO6-91LV0-7JVTV-T7KZZ-CRHVN
And a third: SMNAD-ROT1A-THRCR-FTRNN-4JB0D

"Whoever" == "Plesk" in case anyone was wondering.
@KazWolfe Erm, what exactly are we pasting serial numbers for?

they're my own generated keys, calm down :D

@Zacharee1 I actually don't consider myself a nerd. I did that one for fun.

I don't know which makes it worse: PHP or Windows.

3:09 AM
@NathanOsman THE-BEST-SERIALZ-KEYS-CRAXZ-LEGIT-100-REAL.info

Neither one on its own has much going for it.

I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because it is cross-posted and you have accepted an answer on the other post. — schroeder ♦ 19 hours ago
that took a while

@Zacharee1 That looks totally legit

I use ReLoader to crack windows :)

@NathanOsman right?

3:09 AM
@KazWolfe oh i see your real name

The only thing that would make it more sketchy would be a .tk domain.

Lol.

@NathanOsman TK domains are legit. INFO is what you have to look out for

Needs moar extensions.

3:10 AM
LOL

It's such a hassle to maintain a TK domain, only people really serious about keeping one running will have any

A basic edition of Plex is $5/m.
That's cheaper than I expected.
But still $4.99 more than it's worth.

I run Plex for free

At least the server

3:11 AM
@Zacharee1 speaking of which, your website is still down

@edwinksl yep

either way, those serial keys @NathanOsman, come from a very simple and stupid generation algorithm of mine.

haven't had the motivation to find a proper host

@Zacharee1 giff techyteen.tk pl0x

y tho

3:13 AM
you could put your 192000x108000 pictures there

@NathanOsman You thinking about setting up a Plex server?

@KazWolfe i still remember your real name xD

@edwinksl wut

@Zacharee1 kaz made a rare mistake

@edwinksl well as long as you don't blab about it.
either way my old high school already killed my online privacy.
yay idiot catholic schools

3:16 AM
@KazWolfe I found it too
:p
FS

let me guess. on my website?

nope

@NathanOsman purge pls

> IT'S NEVER TOO LATE FOR COFFEE gets 12th cup
umm

sonofa.

3:18 AM
@NathanOsman Ah, you're talking about the Plex Pass. You don't need it. You can set up your own server, then the applications can still stream it from your own server. You don't need to worry about theirs

someone who shares your name was in some sort of scandal

@Zacharee1 ye
that makes finding the real kaz more difficult

will the real kaz still stand up

@KazWolfe i just found a super easy way to find your real name xD. there is really no point hiding it at this point
even a n00b like me can do it

big nub

3:22 AM
:(

bun gib

@KazWolfe i could tell you what i did if you want to remove this super easy method

what is this method?
post and delete

who can see deleted chat posts

mods?
maybe

3:24 AM
that would be a deliberate breach of piracy that goes against kaz's explicit wish for me not to blab about it
instaban for sure

lel
do you have Discord?

i could dm you on twitter

but actually
let's see what kaz has to say first

Kazzy Wazzy

3:27 AM
oh two ways now
gg

wat
@Seth i c u tweetin

seth RTing the purest memes, tsk tsk

brb sleeping

yes. there is an intentional link

ok

3:36 AM
i have other aliases that are not linked, and you will not find those.

that wasn't my goal

then... moo.

MOOO

confirm. edity is cow.
and that owl is back -_-

3:52 AM
interesting discussion linuxforum.com/threads/…
dat emacs pronunciation tho

My S Q L is correct, js.

related r/linux discussion reddit.com/r/linux/comments/544rh6/…
i am still not sure about chmod

C H mod here

same
sometimes i say "change mod"

let's see. I call /etc E T C

3:57 AM
who even says it like etsy lmao

a sysadmin i worked with
he also called it "My Sequel"

you must be loling to yourself that whole time

No, I told him "Hey can you check the postgre sequel instance"
he hold me "u dum m8. it's Postgres Q L"

lel

i hold him "-_-"
i call sudo "pseudo"
fstab is F S Tab
And I call vim torture

then again, i use nano day to day.

from mysql's own youtube channel

too lazy to watch. S Q L or sequel?

sql
s q l

vi for me

4:01 AM
the only annoying thing about nano is keybinds.
I always catch myself pressing Ctrl+W in browsers when I have a terminal open

@KazWolfe SAME
lots of tabs have been closed accidentally

Ctrl-X is also kind of an interesting jar.
Let me use Ctrl-C damnit!
but nano is a simple and easy text editor that JUST LETS ME TYPE
so...
that's my main complaint about vi. I just want to edit a file the second I open it. No commands. Just editing, and I can move on.

Q: Automatically load Vi into insert mode

user254I use Vi as my preferred (and, in fact, only) text editor on Linux Systems. I know how to change modes from normal to insert, and vice verse. Is it possible to have Vi automatically load into Insert Mode rather than Normal Mode?

huh.
yeah, i like vi's edit tools (even though i don't know them at all), but i just want to edit a file.
brb aliasing

heh

4:14 AM
Nice! It loaded right up into insert mode. :)

this is the SO version of that question
39
Q: How do I start vim in insert mode?

Santosh KumarWhenever I enter vim, there are 99% chance that I will go in insert mode and edit the file. Can I make vim always start in insert mode?

I'm pretty certain that there is a way to set the mode permanently without aliasing. I might be wrong though

i'm back after cleaning

4:30 AM
It's too late for me, if that happened everything I wrote would start with 'i'
And have jjjjjjjdd:wq in the middle...

@KazWolfe vi isn't a text editor ;p

@Zanna LOL I would have the same problem. :)

vi /ˈviːˈaɪ/ is a screen-oriented text editor originally created for the Unix operating system. The portable subset of the behavior of vi and programs based on it, and the ex editor language supported within these programs, is described by (and thus standardized by) the Single Unix Specification and POSIX. The original code for vi was written by Bill Joy in 1976, as the visual mode for a line editor called ex that Joy had written with Chuck Haley. Bill Joy's ex 1.1 was released as part of the first BSD Unix release in March, 1978. It was not until version 2.0 of ex, released as part of Seco...

@JourneymanGeek it edits text.
it's a text editor.

vi /ˈviːˈaɪ/ is a screen-oriented text editor

4:33 AM
I would also have a problem with a lot of capital A's at the beginning of lines when I am trying to add to the end of the line. Haha!

LOL

@Terrance yep

Love the Yank command! :)

And xxxx everywhere...

LOL
Of course!

4:34 AM
git gud

And lots and lots of ddddd
Of course my files would all start with dGi

Hahaha
Too modest

Habit on that one. Delete from here till end of file then go to insert mode. I do it all the time at work.

I thought you meant everything you write is so bad you always start by deleting everything and starting over

When I look at my history tab, it comes up with the chat BUT it puts numbers whenever unread messages comes out! :D
Guess my browser?

4:37 AM
@Zanna i had noticed that TLCL didn't mention that BRE has identical functionality as ERE when we include GNU extensions. it took me too long to realize that :/

We have utilities that we use to locate servers via scripts, and the help file comes up when you run it starts automatically at the top. To insert the server name, you need to clear all the help stuff then insert name. Hence the dGi
@Zanna Yes, I do that too! ;)

Haha

@edwinksl I need to read that page again, I thought it was just a matter of [ \{ \+
Ooops
My bracket got escaped

@Zanna GNU extensions also add \? and \+
and one more that i forgot

4:40 AM
All I know is that I don't like to edit files anymore even in the GUI. Straight to terminal then run vi

I used \+ in my query cutting script

@Zanna yeah but TLCL says + is a feature only in ERE but not in BRE
which is not true if GNU extensions are enabled

Yeah you're right

so i was like, huh, why would i use BRE then

I just use whichever leaves me with less backslashes to type

4:43 AM
so most probably ERE :p
at least for sed

Depends what you're doing, but yeah I agree, ERE usually saves keystrokes and confusion
@Terrance same :) once you get used to it it helps a lot

yeah and TLCL also didn't mention sed -r, so i had the impression i was stuck with using BRE for sed with no way of using ? or |

Hahaha

fun fact. it is very easy to get a service dog in the US.

@Zanna No doubt! And I love how fast it is too! I know that emacs is pretty much just as fast, but I never learned it.

4:46 AM
how can emacs be fast with the 8 MEGS of ram it's constantly swapping?!

Recently I realised sed -E does the same as sed -r so you can forget everything and pretend it's grep
@Terrance I want to learn, just for neutrality...
Breakfast time...

@Zanna A guy I used to work with swore by emacs as his editor. I would like to learn it too

Startup time: Vi(m) proponents complain about Emacs's startup time. Yes, Emacs is slow to start up, but this is not a big deal: you start Emacs once per session, then connect to the running process with emacsclient. So Emacs's slow startup is mostly a myth.
yeah people use this crappy argument for a lot of editors, but it is stupid
well, unless, you restart your editor for minute

As far as I know, emacs can be its own shell

emacs can be its own session

4:51 AM
isn't emacs an OS?

you can do the same with vi
We once had a device where it would start vi as root to edit config files. You could start bash from there....

and have clean file management and programs all within Vim's bounds?

Yeah, I really need to learn more about emacs

5:09 AM
Night all! :D

night!

morning all :+)

o/

morning @Rinzwind :)

o/
hmmm. should i trade in my iPhone for a OnePlus?

the CV queue is looking better :)

we are clearly in better shape than a certain SE site

what is Triage on SO?

lol is that SO?

and Help and Improvement
@Zanna yep

5:35 AM
that ain't getting cleared any time soon >_<

yeah it has fluctuated between high 7k and low 9k for weeks now

@KazWolfe yes sir.

@Rinzwind brb ebaying

:D
or get a pixel
those seem to have some neat features

oneplus is cheaper i tihnk

5:39 AM
@KazWolfe I've really liked mine so far

pixel or oneplus?

oneplus 3

no. But its crap

5:42 AM
someone's watching Mr. Robot

@KazWolfe indeed
it may also explain why people are asking about kali

heh
yeah, they had kali in a few episodes

and putty in windows

Q: How do I connect Meghbela Broadband PMPL to a WIFI Router?

Kaushik Das( 1 ) New router and your service provider asking for money to configure it? No problem, I can show you the way by which you can make this happen by yourself.

can i get a nuke?

is chrootkit abandonned?
www.chkrootkit.org/ looks dead

5:48 AM
which troll upvoted that q&a?

sock?
Whatever happens with Windows, Ubuntu has nothing to do with it. This is off-topic. — CelticWarrior 1 hour ago
this person is commenting in authoritative tone everywhere and I don't agree with a lot of their comments

@Zanna I was already thinking the same

yeah a lot of their answers seem not right to me as well

@Zanna yeah i didn't like the tone, although he/she is still right about the offtopicness
offtopicality?
no idea

haha

5:56 AM
fast action :)

dont let panda see that rkhunter topic :=)

Yeah I guess it is OT, but I feel it's not true for example that Ubuntu has nothing to do with it... Windows worked fine, I installed Ubuntu, now windows broke...
we have famous questions showing how to deal with problems like that I think
maybe they will stop being so aggressive after a while :S

@Zanna do you remember what these questions are? i should go read them...

all about 32/64 bit but the file is probably not an executable
