hi all

Anonymous
random question, but anyone know of good motivational posters? Like the "hang in there one"? Maybe even towards programming?

@onebree print this out

12:22 AM
contineu checking whether my attempt succeeds, and if not, try again?

Hi

@onebree if at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again

Anonymous
oh lol

@Zacharee1 reading

12:27 AM
@onebree sigh :p
@onebree literally, it's loop if try() != succeed
It's quiet
Where are all the Germans?

busy being sad after losing olympic gold in football to brazil

12:57 AM
oh hey I'm here.

Anonymous
In the US though

Anonymous
Was busy finding a book to get for free from PacktPub -- their site is sooo slow on the search pages.

@Zacharee1 can I have 15 minutes of your time ?

sure

@Zacharee1 I need an icon for an indicator. Very simple. 3 cascading squares, in 3 different colors. Small size as usual

12:59 AM
OK

when did serg come to chat
didn't notice

@edwinksl 2 minutes ago :)
Yesterday I made a new indicator, which I think Unity folks will really like. All I need now is to get an icon, and then I'll quickly make a repo and upload

@Serg what colors?

@Zacharee1 Orange, purlple, white. These are Ubuntu colors

ok

1:04 AM
19
Q: What is the Ubuntu colour?

wimI'm sure you know the one I'm talking about, that deep magenta. I would like to know it's RGB value.

what order?

@Zacharee1 doesn't really matter to me. I think orange first will be the best. The rest can be whatever

OK

AFK . . . need to start cooking rice

@Serg

1:09 AM
so I have not used my tablet in a couple months and forgot the pattern to get in

or does this look better?

Anonymous
and wifi is not on so I cannot log in via google.

@onebree lol
so Android

Anonymous
And I cannot turn wifi on without unlocking

is it rooted?

Anonymous
1:09 AM
no

hmm

@Zacharee1 hmm, not quite. Let's reverse it. Top one orange on the bottom left, second purple in the middle, finally white in top right

OK
any changes to the cascade itself?
this is halfway

Anonymous
I do not want to restore my device... IDK what is on it. Prob nothing, but I cannot tell without unlocking it

Anonymous
never ending cycle

1:12 AM
heh
can you flash TWRP and SuperSU?

Anonymous
OMG THERE IS A GUEST MODE

Anonymous
let me see if adding wifi that way helps

looks weird

On a side note, OnePlus 2 also has guest mode , which i turned off

1:14 AM
All MM devices do

@Zacharee1 how so ?

idk

Anonymous
yaaaaas going to guest mode, enabling wifi, and going back to me WORKED

it's just hard to look at

Anonymous
now I can sign in via google

1:15 AM
@onebree change your passcode

@Zacharee1 OK . . . .any improvement ideas ? I know nothing about graphic design, so . . GUI'de me plz

errrg
ggghghgh
I'm trying to think what bothers me about it

rofl

Anonymous
yaaaaaaas I'm in.. changing my pattern now

I think the purple doesn't have enough contrast
try that @Serg
wait
that won't help

1:19 AM
Nah, looks weirder

That matches the color of the status bar
the default one anyway

@Zacharee1 no, lets keep background transparent, and switch white and purple places

Better , I think

a little
hmm

1:22 AM
@Zacharee1 It doesn't have to be ideal. Lets change it to light blue
I mean, swap purple with light blue

I'm gonna try something else first

ok

what does that look like?

nope

Anonymous
1:25 AM
what are you trying to do, you two?

looks like a bad transparency
@onebree ICONZZ

Anonymous
forwhat

Serg's stuff

@onebree i wrote an indicator for unity and Zach is helping me make an icon for that

Anonymous
why not do a hamburger menu icon,. or 3 dot icon

1:26 AM
he wants it themed

Anonymous
hamburger seems the most intuituve

it is intuitive . . . but this indicator isn't about burgers :3 but maybe one day i will write one

Anonymous
what is the indicator for

Hmmm, I will probably push it to git today, but it's going to need a menuentry for removing items
@onebree it's a secret . . .so far . . . once we're happy with an icon, it will be made known. Which is probably in the next 20 minutes :D

Anonymous
okay. Well I am going to log off -- will be watching some community

1:30 AM
it'd help if I knew :p
or remembered...

@onebree do you use unity by the way ?

Anonymous
nope xfce

Ah , that's a pity . . .I'd need users to test it out

Ubuntu's new design palette has black instead of aubergine
although they also have aubergine as supporting color

Black still doesn't stand out

1:35 AM
but none of the shades match the one on that AU post

ah, it's a Canonical core color
Try that one though @Serg

@Zacharee1 which one ? the one with purple ?

@Serg the latest. it's a lighter purple
although my answer was upvoted at the same time...
weird
no, I mean someone downvoted the question, then the answer was upvoted :p
you upvoted both

1:39 AM
better
I like it

how about borders ?

can you add the gray borders to it ?

you like them?

yeah

1:40 AM
ok..
ooh
I have an idea

1:55 AM
@Serg

So-so ish
so i presoaked my rice today in water+Soy sauce mixture
didn't turn out exactly as i expected, though not bad

hmm

@Zacharee1 i'm gonna go with the gray-bordered one. I think that looks the best

ok

Anonymous
I like the latest iteration

2:01 AM
do you want me to put it around the whole square at least?

Anonymous
why not use circles instead of squares?

@Zacharee1 sure

Anonymous
night all

@onebree because Unity launcher are squares

2:03 AM
YES !
That's the one

now it at least doesn't look like a mistake :p

@onebree @Seth @Zacharee1 @ParanoidPanda And here's is that new new indicator repo ! github.com/SergKolo/launcher-list-indicator It's an indicator that allows switching profiles for the Launcher. So you could have sets of launcher icons for Home, for Office, for Programming , etc. It's based around the previous one - the mouse-profile-indicator
2

That looks pretty fancy.

It's in a working condition , though I do want to add "remove entry" option to the menu before tagging and releasing
:D Ohai Nathan !

Yeah :D

I lost one indicator idea to Jacob, but this one should make it up.

how dare he?!
:p
eeeee
less than 2k to 10k!

Eh, my mistake. I should have posted answer sooner and checked if gsettings option worked on 16.04. silly. I could make my original idea into indicator, but it's bad since it needs root

not easy to make one

I already have a NAA detector it's called Zacharee1.

the command i want to type is : sudo chown root /home/user/
why??????

dammit , my indicator adds a'Remove menuentry' menu item , which should not be there . . . It should only appear if there's profiles added . . .
Seems like try . . . except doesn't work
Fixed it. The issue was my own logic . . .Now it works

4:49 AM
PEBKAC :P

@edwinksl what ?

Eh . . . I would prefer the term "software-external bug"

@Serg I quickly looked over the the code for your app indicator. Looks extremely well written.
If anyone refuses to hire you because of your Python skills, give me their number and I'll yell at them :D

We'll, now that changes we're pushed off to bit, everything is working so far, maybe I can take shower. After that, I'll add changes to the mouse profiled, too. And the README filled will have to be edited. Gosh

some minor pep8 violations, but whatever

@NathanOsman Nathan, thanks for the kind words. I consider myself a noob, but I did put much effort into those indicators
@edwinksl yeah, I'd need to run autopep8 script on that stuff.
OK , AFK now , showering

5:26 AM
@NathanOsman Something bad happened to nitroshare. Something really bad

What?

I was transfering to BOOMTECH-VM yesterday and after that, it kinda corrupted the text of everything.
On my Host

Did you try it a second time after that?
(In other words, does it always happen or only sometimes?)

It never happened
This is just a first time

You might want to try it a second time then.

5:29 AM
Is this a minor glitch?

Networks aren't always error-free.

all-right

@ƎpᴉʇʎXD I can't really imagine what would cause NitroShare to do that.

I need to transfer a DLL file with BOOMTECH-VM anyways

It sounds more like a network issue.
Unless, of course, it's reproducible.

5:30 AM
@NathanOsman Probably, because my network was doing work in the morning

@Pilot6, @edwinksl, @KevinBowen, @DavidFoerster, @EricCarvalho Please remove your closevotes on askubuntu.com/q/806349/295286 I reviewed edit history, the author originally asked very clear question, so this was closed unfairly. Can you guys tell me what confused you there ? OP has edited his post, by the way, AND I have a solution to it. So please reopen this and let me know what happened there

@Serg i already voted to reopen. note that i VTCed before any of the improvements was done. the first iteration of the post was completely unclear.

@edwinksl Did it mention fcitx and plugin originally ? Or was it added later ?

I am using fcitx,I wish when I want to input "time", it output current time "2016-08-03 11:15".How to setup?

Reopen vote cast.

5:34 AM
Thank you, Nathan

nitroshare might have deleted itself SCREW YOU NETWORK

What is meant by when I want to input "time"? you want a keyboard shortcut do the job or like a snippet — Anwar Aug 11 at 5:45
basically what anwar was trying to clarify, which was missing in the original post

I believe they mean that there is plugin which replaces user typed words with something else , so like I type in "current_time" and it will immediately replace that string with "Aug 24, 2016 11:37 PM"

sure, that's only obvious after the recent edits, so i agree to vote to reopen
i disagree with your claim that the post was closed unfairly

5:39 AM
at the point of voting to close, the post was unclear

@Serg Done

@KazWolfe Thank you very much
@edwinksl OK. I guess the edit history didn't show it. Your disagreement acknowledged :D
