python and perl are bigger guns. you won't wanna write perl or awk script just to translate single string in text file. But if you only know perl, sure. use what gets job done
@NathanOsman would it be more difficult to write indicator in python and make it communicate with C++ binaries ?

immediately there were three one-line answers, and I tested all of them. At that time I was using vanilla Ubuntu, and only one of the three answers worked for me (posted by Jacob V)
the other two people were using MATE terminal, and their answers were based on the fact that in MATE you can get the number of pts from the who command

I think maybe so... but maybe something to do with what I said before, about how to get pts... in MATE you can get it from the who command. How does wall know all the pts to send to? Maybe I'm being stupid
Operating system like ubuntu, debian having the GNOME terminal for real time usage. But, at the same time ctrl+alt+f2 shows the terminal as a full fledged CUI.
