where are we creating it...on the client machine?
or the ssh server?

Okay, I am doing on client machine not server.

@deostroll it says it in the section for the first step
"The first step is to create the key pair on the client machine"
all the commands it says will be run on the client machine

okay then what does step 3 do?

Hello everyone :)

@deostroll I strongly recommend reading the text it says, rather than just using the steps

3:01 PM
the complication is...the other machine is a docker container running ubuntu...

How to send a bug report about mishaving mouse?
In Ubuntu 16.04.
bug-ubuntu [what-here]

@Masi you may want to refer to help.ubuntu.com/community/… for guidance

@Masi ubuntu-bug?

Yes, but what is the package name for mouse?

@JourneymanGeek @ThomasW. Thanks! I'm used to apache; nginx is starting to feel like a headache..

3:05 PM
you can liekly just type ubuntu-bug and file it against no specific package
then let triagers go and poke it where it goes
or the kernel. Peopel will know how to triage bugs if they're misfiled, so don't worry too much about making sure they're filed against the right package

@ThomasW. Yes, I think it is Linux kernel issue.
How can you report mouse-kernel issue?

just file against linux
but as i said, if it's misfiled people will get it filed where it needs to go

Good! Thank you!

that will be useful too

Q: Make a bootable ubuntu-core for Raspberry pi2

bsorenI've been trying to build a minimal Ubuntu system for my raspberry pi2, based on an Ubuntu 14.0.4 core (base) image. here: wiki.ubuntu.com/Core I deployed the image to the SD card, Cross compiled a kernel (v4.4) for Pi according to this instructions But I am having troubles getting the puzzle al...

3:11 PM
@blade19899 for basic LAMP hosting, lighttpd is more painless than even apache
some config needed, but its light and fast

mhmm , when i make a docstring, pycharm creates it like that, and puts this :return: there is that needed or can i omit that?
    """
    get a single char out of the string defined as charset
    :return:
    """

@AbhishekBhatia here's the script I wrote, it's really inefficient and doesn't handle errors in the best ways...
#!/bin/bash

# Automatic Update Script. Very rudimentary, and likely should be replaced!

# Run as root!

apt-get update
if [ $? != 0 ]; then
    print "apt-get update failed."
    exit $?
fi

apt-get -y dist-upgrade
if [ $? != 0 ]; then
	print "apt-get dist-upgrade failed."
	exit $?
fi

exit 0
really recommend you use a different solution :P
""" String

multiline."""

I casted a flag on: askubuntu.com/q/733517/505621 but may be somebody is willing to chat with me on how to proceed with my question. As it seems It is hard to answer.

so that automaticall put :return: can be omitted ?

@Videonauth i have never seen :return: in a docstring before. interesting.

3:14 PM
pycharm creates this
this is why i ask

my docker instance is running with ip 172.17.0.2 but when I do ssh-copy-id -i <id-file> root@172.17.0.2 it is asking for password...? #ssh

@Kupferdrache refresh the page
@Videonauth PyCharm can generate documentation
that's why it adds that

ah ok

so basically for sphinx to generate docs

Thanks. Now I need only the luck of answers and comments on my side.

3:18 PM
@edwinksl ahh ok :) kinda like doxygen strings

How to get all mouse related logs?
I need to submit a bug in linux.bugzilla because non-standard config.
I would like to gather all info as ubuntu-bug does but for them.

dupedidupeduped.

not sure why anyone would willingly go from free software to unfree software

@ThomasW. How can you get logs about mouse activity and related for bugzilla.linux about Ubuntu 16.04?

3:31 PM
tears were shed

I need to report there because using 4.6 kernel

@edwinksl another one of bills sheep :)
i dont regret moving from windows to linux
2

Who has posted that story about Windows, Apple and Linux vehicles recently? The one where Linux are tanks?

no clue :)
guess i missed that the past days

@Masi apport will collect that data, but if you're uisng a kernel that doesn't exist in the Ubuntu repos you can't file the bug on Launchpad

3:36 PM
I updated my question. May be it enough to help you help me figureing out, how to proceed, so i can finally start createing a stable system by building a system from scratch with this Ubuntu USB stick. Or point ot a flaw in my plan.

@ThomasW. Yes, I know therefore I need to submit to upstream bugzilla.linux.

@Videonauth Yup, that proves me as Linux fanboy :)

@Masi ah. that's a little outside my ability to assist, sorry. They probably have documentation upstream on where to find logs, etc.

@ByteCommander that flashing laptop though. first step toward world domination.

The Linux one?

3:39 PM
@Kupferdrache you could have a look at my blog, there I describe how you can make yourself an installation via debootstrap. It mostly covers it for Ubuntu but touches other debian based distros too. ---> videonauth.dyndns.org/index.php/2016/05/26/…

I am more pragmatic, I am using a working system, atm, is my old computer with windows , but my new one shall not touch windows.
I will check it out, thank for the link

@ByteCommander yep me too meanwhile, even if i still keep a win7 installation around in dualboot, but now mainly for gaming, would be sad if i loose 200 out of my 280 steam games
@Kupferdrache I'm making my USB bootable sticks this way

How can you see your last bug report send by System crash tool (the one where you type nothing)?
I need it for bugzilla.linux.
Ubuntu did not give my any reference.
or system error tool

you normaly can put that onto a file too @masi, i remember that there os a button or checkbox for that within that dialog

It a pitty, that is still hard to play games on linux, but it gets better and better.

3:43 PM
the more the redmond team screws up people the more AA games will be made in linux because the market share shifts
and as far i have seen linux users are even more likely to buy the games as pirating them

@Videonauth Yes, but it went already. I need the specific log entry because the situation is so rare (1/100 of startups).

check if you find it in /var/log/faillog

Your blob covers only BIOS / CSM boot so far is this intenional?

@Videonauth How to get it with faillog?

yeah, you could do the same with GPT partition table but you would have to cover the part about efi yourself, im only using legacy here :)
@masi i guess you will have to wait then if it occurs again and then kepp the log
not yet had the problem where i had such a bug till now

3:49 PM
Arg, 30 days for the next one.

@ByteCommander this one is also funny

@Videonauth If Mac is a bowling pin, Windows is a bowling ball when it comes to shaving...

@Videonauth It is still helpfull anyway. Any objections I link it as resource in my question as well?

Kinda, I'm now mainly using Linux since end of February, and im even now on a point where i not even consider it slightly converting back
you can do if you want i covered this here on the site aswell as answer to this question askubuntu.com/questions/768970/…, so would be better if you link that instead in your question.
my blog might move next year to a different location so this link would be dead then
and not of use for further readers
but you could simply make yourself an live USB/CD and install from there if you want your new computer not be touched by windows at all
then you not would have to worry about the gpt ueafi thing, this is as well covered on [AskUbuntu] a couple of times
magic link does not like me lol

@Videonauth easiest +2 of my life
but it was a good read

4:00 PM
xD
on my blog it is an even longer read

I may want to use the stick for dianostis later, so better prepare for my worsest.

well on my way to 1k on su :D

@Videonauth your chat message is awfully spammy... >:)
it'd be a shame if...someone were to flag it...

xD sorry i was so utterly shocked by this edit suggestion

lol
probably bad English
maybe they meant not preinstalled
but it's not preinstalled on any version of Ubuntu AFAIK

thats it and even in the setence before it says to do sudo apt-get install gparted ;)
see my reject message?

Videonauth reviewed this 9 mins ago: Reject
This is utter bullcrap...

@HenryWHHack i approved your edit but please next time, unordered lists are done like that on SE sites:

@edwinksl it's Nougat

nougat = crap

let's hope Android doesn't reflect it

urgh python 3 is a bit more evil than python 2... >.<

^ what he says ;)

@ThomasW. can't wait till Python 4

i was able to convert one of my Python 2 things to Python 3... but it's a little different in syntax

go faster, phone

4:40 PM
most stuff "just worked' :P

@ThomasW. they aren't very different. I prefer 3, but that's because I learned 3 :p

@ThomasW. did you use the 2to3 tool?

I also don't really know enough to like one over the other for real reasons

@edwinksl nope.
wanted to visually see the differences, and using PyCharm as my IDE, showed me what was broken/wrong
but hey i made it move over :)

errant commas >:)

4:41 PM
@ThomasW. 2to3 gives you a diff of the changes it makes

@edwinksl true, but reading diffs is annoying

you're annoying
but not as annoying as I am
2
welp
should I be like Thomas and remove that message?
uh
It finished Starting Apps and then soft rebooted

now it'll optimize again
muahahahah

it might actually
sometimes I reboot and it optimizes 14 or 15 apps

@ThomasW. On the other hand, much of Python3's syntax is compatible with Python 2 though. The most annoying thing is that they renamed many import modules.

4:44 PM
So OK Siri listens to audio coming from the device. Shame on Apple

@ByteCommander they did that between Ubuntu 9.10 python to Ubuntu 14.04 Python though
that's not new, i expect that every release (2.6, 2.7, etc.)

@Zacharee1 Some crap about the M9 coprocessor not being able to access headphone stuffs

@KazWolfe let me reiterate: shame on Apple

owwww cat-dog is here xD

oh

4:48 PM
how are you today?

@Videonauth where does cat come from?

kaz

from Kaz if you pronounce that in german it has a very close pronouncation as Katz

katze maybe?

^ what he said

4:49 PM
kind of grasping at straws, are we?

@KazWolfe u r

on another note, why does server pricing need to be so annoying.

so they can be sure you're serious

It makes it really hard to calculate cost / user when prices fluctuate, data is an additional cost, and when hard drive space also costs money.

exactly

4:51 PM
And it's not like an investment.
It's AWS. They can spin instances up and down freely.

idk
buzz buzz buzz
bug report captured I guess
can't tell though because the boot animation is still there
hey it booted this time

aws. just please have a sensical price model.
And stop charging $0.10 / GB transfer out

stop trying to send TBs of data out and that cost goes away for the most part lol

lol

game servers are annoying in that way

4:55 PM
@KazWolfe better than the $15/1GB VZW charges

dont run game servers on AWS
just don't

@ThomasW. like i want to
Scalability though.

JUST DO IT

and the fact that it's cheaper / player slot than a bare-metal server (which is just getting virtualization on it)

just run a home server against your ISP's wishes

4:58 PM
@Zacharee1 3Mbps up/down @ 500 users.
I'd rather not self-DDoS.

yeah
why so slow

stop trying to share with 500 users lol

because I pay $70 for it

o_O
DSL?

No. Some weird 5GHz hybrid long-range wifi thingy

4:59 PM
wut

their entire network has a bunch of glorified line-of-sight wifi APs

whose

My ISP
Welcome to California internet

$60 gets me 150Mbps down / 25Mbps up with Comcast lol

You don't live in the middle of nowhere, do you?
As in, the nearest village is about seven miles away, and the nearest city is about thirty?

5:03 PM
you should probably move to a higher population center then :)
but no
even then, my fiancee used to live in the middle of nowhere pennsylvania and still got comparable pricing/speeds :p

@Zacharee1 Do you have one for Unbuntu yet?

@ThomasW. My ISP are a bunch of crooks, but they offer unlimited data

newbie detected >:(
ah well. easy upvotes >:-D

@Rinzwind oh no. get the banhammer out, thomas

@ThomasW. My ISP offers 400 down/20 up for 65€ here.

5:05 PM
Train Simulator DLC is on sale. Buy everything for $3,280.67

Whoa, that was quick spam.

whistles nonchalantly

@ThomasW. bro. bro pls.
i need the flags
classic gamer problem. three nice titles for sale on steam, can only get one.

Q: ubuntu not starting after update-grub

himanshu shekharChanged the default kernel in /etc/default/grub and did update-grub. Now every time the system is switched on it opens BIOS settings. Its not showing any boot menu.

@KazWolfe I avoid that problem. I always have 100 euro on my PS account in case more than 1 good game appear >:)

5:08 PM
well i can easily get all of the titles if I want, but I have more self control than that

heh
@KazWolfe you could also get none of the titles and solve the problem that way :)

@ThomasW. but where's the fun in that

you have more money for the important things
:)

*shrug*

"important"

5:12 PM
Can I document the steps I took to install Ubuntu MATE in a question of my own that I'll answer myself?
@Zacharee1 do you know if that would be allowed

@grooveplex sure, just make sure it isn't a dupe

Is it necessary though?
MATE isn't very hard to install, is it?

@Zacharee1 Speaking from experience, yes.

it is? why?

Well I just stumbled upon a few things and I want to help people from the future

5:15 PM
because things don't like to play nice

@ByteCommander idk what to do for that, except maybe reversing the logo?

Yup, make a negative of the logo.

see @ThomasW., the reason I'm looking at running game servers on AWS is scaling.

@grooveplex I guess you could try. Make a disclaimer or something saying that it had some quirks, so it isn't a dupe of "How do I install Ubuntu?"

And add a penguin, maybe depicted from its back side.

5:16 PM
@ByteCommander ooh, a negative
I can just invert all the colors

If there are low-demand times, we shut off the servers we don't need and keep the "core" ones online. High-demand we launch more.

creepy
not you this time Kaz

me?
nah. must be terdon >:-D

you're not Kaz

@KazWolfe the price doesn't make it scalable.
not really
what if you have to keep large ones up for a long period of time
E: Out Of Luck

5:17 PM
@ThomasW. I was considering that.
Like I said, complicated.

wow I dirty flashed this build and it still works just fine

As long as spot pricing stays relatively low, we can get away with $0.05/hr for the large servers.
the problem is at low user counts, AWS is a lot cheaper. High user counts make AWS much more expensive

@KazWolfe Scalability is more than just about server resources
if the cost doesn't scale well either the solution doesn't work

I'm fully aware.
My group is working on a shoestring budget to get servers that can relliably host our infra

For my question and answer, I'll now have to log out and log in again.. Can I save my question as a draft somewhere or do I post it and pray people won't edit or delete it before it's too late?
Nvm, I'll save it as a file on my HDD and post it when I have all the details

5:46 PM
@grooveplex au autosaves
or the browser?

oh goody
eBay is protected by Norton
