12:20 AM
NitroShare wallpaper for those who want it.

derp logo time >:)
kidding

@Zacharee1 what do you mean choose an avatar? I have one.

@TheXed from my Meta post
-_-
instead of doing nfunpn, I could've done nfunqn

12:35 AM
@Zacharee1 what meta post?

check Meta\

This isn't chess, and I have no idea what you are talking about....

Oh those lol...
@Zacharee1 gravatar changed...everyone refresh their cashe

yay

12:40 AM
by the way did you make those?
because I would like it in 1600x900 so I can use it for my wallpaper

@TheXed 1920x1080 scales down perfectly to 1600x900

yeah but it is 800x600

no, it's 1920x1080
or do you mean the uboonto things?

So for the first time, I actually needed Gimp to have 16-bit support.

@NathanOsman wat

12:44 AM
Working with very subtle gradients here.

oh

And lots of caustics from a Blender render.
There. That doesn't look too bad.

@KazWolfe yes the ubooooonti things

rip chat

@andrew.46 oh hi

12:57 AM
Aaaand another shooting in Downtown Denver, but this time seems like a guy targeted a specific woman , then shot himself .
Yay, for gun violence /smh

give more people guns. less gun violence.

this seems to be an ongoing trend in your city. perhaps it's time to build a bunker and hide? :)

wait, Denver is becoming Detroit?

@ThomasW. perhaps it's the time to move the F out of there . . . And it used to be such a quiet place :/

perhaps

12:59 AM
Sorry , for the ping. force of habit . I'll try to avoid that

twas fine :)

Just remember there was a person that pulled the trigger. The gun was just a tool.

That's exactly what I am afraid of , not the guns, but the people

gun control is about as useful as knife control. which is about as useful as screwdriver control.
And then there will be demand to ban water because water can drown people

1:03 AM
@KazWolfe how many people can you stab with a screwdriver ? compare that with a gun that can pop several bullets into crowd

@Serg depends on how sneaky you are

@Serg Let's see... If you get behind someone and drive it through their neck, probably a good amount
You can also use it to [REDACTED UNDER PATRIOT ACT], causing [REDACTED UNDER PATRIOT ACT].

@KazWolfe Replace orlando's shooter's assault rifle with screwdriver or a knife . . .

Or you can just [REDACTED UNDER PATRIOT ACT] and incapacitate them, and finish them off by [REDACTED UNDER PATRIOT ACT].

Or, [REDACTED UNDER MULTIPLE FEDERAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS], then [REDACTED UNDER MULTIPLE FEDERAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS], and then, [REDACTED UNDER MULTIPLE FEDERAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS]

1:06 AM
Alternatively, just wrap some wire around it, string it up in a cobweb-esque net, and jam it in to an outlet near an exit.
People touch it, [REDACTED UNDER ALL OF THE LAWS]

The most evil though, is t- *shot*
anyways, enough fun for me, good night all

I can also just [REDACTED] someone with the Cisco switch sitting on my lap right now.

literally anything can be a weapon, serg.

@KazWolfe not everything can kill 20 - 50 people in a about few minutes , and not everything can be used in a crowd

1:11 AM
@Serg I can name a bunch of things that can
Most of which can be found in your house.

@KazWolfe just having a Cisco anything sitting on your lap should be enough to kill most people.

@TheXed Nah. It's a 1U switch

I just put in some 2u battery backups today at work.
2 in and 2 more to install.

@ThomasW. Hello :)

Q: rsyslog is still sending messages to omusrmsg even after using `stop` command

quazar0I have the following lines in the 50-default.conf file (in /etc/rsyslog.d): local0.emerg stop *.emerg :omusrmsg:* But all local0 messages are still being sent to every user logged on the system. I can't seem to find any filter that will tell rsyslog to stop sending those loca...

2:04 AM
@Zacharee1 we weren't. Only @KazWolfe was.
@Serg was talking him out of it.
And I was just reminding everyone that we are all humans.

I'm just gonna stay out of this - because the gun-lovers are waaaay to stubborn to understand

understand what?

2:26 AM
"Ubunru Gnome 16.04"
ubunru

I can only think of putting Serg for that one :p
uboontu is live!
I wonder if Disney will make me take that one down....

@Zacharee1 Ubunru doesn't fit me as i am not ru , ie not Russian :)

yeah, but you're the closest we've got :p

O.o

2:41 AM
Just in case Disney really cares that much, I've changed uboontu
In Soviet Linux, ubunru installs you
3
how's that sound?

i like it

Oh I have one... Ubuntu Groan Remix.

uh
and it's live on Meta

I had half a cup of coffee . . . .why the frick i am sleepy ?

only half a cup, duh

2:51 AM
Better drink another half a cup of coffee...
I am trying to drink some hot chocolate but it is too hot

i haz nap wanna nau

@Serg sleep, you've lost your English

in soviet russia, english learns you

the ukrainian in serg has taken over

@Serg better than trying to learn it

2:54 AM
Can I ask you to take a quick survey?

you're asking us if you can take a survey
sure

@Zacharee1 Trust me, English is relatively easy language. Try learning Russian. It's a mind-f**k of a language , with grammar rules that make no sense, and everything is spelled differently than sounds

Okay...

@Serg sounds like English :D

@TheXed depending on the topic of that survey

2:55 AM
1. How many of you live at home with your parents?

@TheXed me o/

like, including?
oh
well I do for obvious reasons

brb

Next question ?

Oka
okay

2:57 AM
okra?

2. How many of you live in an apartment (or other shared living arrangement)?

nope

not me, living in a house
By the way , what is deduplication ?

> In computing, data deduplication is a specialized data compression technique for eliminating duplicate copies of repeating data. Related and somewhat synonymous terms are intelligent (data) compression and single-instance (data) storage.

3. How many of you live with a significant other?

2:58 AM
nope

My significant other is in another country , so yeah - nope.

lel

4. How many of you are above the age of 23?

o/ me , 25 , soon 26

nope

3:00 AM
@TheXed maybe you should have posted all the questions on surveymonkey site and just give us a link ?
We could even star it

3:49 AM
@Serg actually that gives me an idea

4:05 AM
@Serg here you go...

I now have a 1066-page book on Linux network internals.

@NathanOsman you can click my link too :-D

@TheXed Done.

@NathanOsman thanks!

I love this product review:
> "These propellers are perfect to keep as a backup just incase you accidentally fly into a tree (I may or may not be speaking from experience)."

@NathanOsman what was that from?

Q: uTorrent (utserver) for Linux - how to turn off resolve peers

SunI have utserver running and WebUI is also working. I noticed the default seems to have the peer resolve the IP address to their host name. I want to turn this off. In the Windows client, you could right-click and turn off Resolve Hostnames. No such option exists for WebUI. I also tried looking in...

@NathanOsman oh its for a drone...
I thought it was for an actual aircraft at first...
that would have made it all better

the nap was soooo beautiful , as if i got disconnected for 40 minutes or something

@Serg :-)

4:23 AM
@TheXed i like how the husband is under pet category

@Serg yeah I thought that was an appropriate place for a husband...
(I am allowed to say that, as I am a husband and I know how my wife feels about me sometimes.

i wonder how my gf will feel about me , once we get to the live-together stage . . . if we ever will of course

You can star my survey if you want, but you don't have too...

sorry, my sleepy brain forgot to star it

4:35 AM
No problem
Btw, good luck with your 5 tear plan :p
@Serg also I wonder how my wife will feel about me when my gf and I get into the live-together stage
Oh wait that would require me to have a gf first...nevermind...
Anyways I must be off to bed for now...
have a great adventurous night...

hi guys!
how can I update all package in unattended upgrades?

@TheXed My response was "Awesome, he has gf and wife . . . .wait what ? "
which is totally cool, i've been in those types of relationships once . . . but that's a story for another day

Is there an automated to do this askubuntu.com/a/87854/417607

@HenryWHHack maybe some qtips?

😊😒
I am going to reboot my computer
I forgot I was still in REMIXOS.

5:43 AM
Rebooted

@Serg I never got to use an old time working computer. :(

I have a vintage mac

@HenryWHHack me neither. I've had privilege to play with Windows 98 and some old PC that had Turbo Pascal on it, but nothing too extreme.

@Serg that is too advanced for me, this is what a computer looks like to me youtube.com/watch?v=k4oGI_dNaPc

Q: Create user who can only ssh and reboot machine

viyancsI have a problem when I want to create user for SSH and rebooting the machine only. What I did is I just created a normal user. But normal user can access other commands like reboot, vim, ps, etc. I want to give this user rights for ssh and reboot only. What should I do for fix this?

NITENDO DS CONFIRMED!!!

What's sad is that . . . .this is amazing . . . and not a lot of people can appreciate the leap technology and computers have done
What's also sad is that i have not a lot of people who understand that. Show that to my parents and they be like "Why are you showing me this and why should I care ? "

@Serg i don't think you should expect most people to appreciate such things
@Serg we are the minority

:\ yeah . . . it's a pity people care more about non-sense than technology these days

has always been like that, we humans are pretty stupid

5:59 AM
I am not a human
i am a pencil

I tried to summon Lord Mod the god of mods. :D

;p
I live in AskUbuntu's pencil cup.

I went outside and said "Lord Mod if you are real may lightning strike" and lightening really came! :D

6:27 AM

"Word splitting will eat your babies if you don't quote things properly."

O.o word splitting can be a problem in bash coding, but holly heck

@Serg how many of your babies have been eaten by now

@edwinksl he has none left so all of em.
@Serg MIGHT be able to find some cheap pulls sometimes

hey all
I'm trying to install debian, but having firmware issues

7:10 AM
I don't have any babies yet, although there may have been one in question . . . that's a story for another day
@towc let me guess - nvidia ? broadcom ?

@Serg looking forward to hearing story

on initial setup it told me that some iwlwifi and rtl files were missin

lol probably broadcom

@edwinksl lol , that's not a story for AU chat , probably better on qtox or something
Ah, realtek

7:12 AM
the /lib/firmware is now populated
so rebooted

@Serg i don't have qtox -.- sounds like i should get it

but ifconfig still only shows lo
is there anything else I should have done?

@towc What does this command tell you : sudo lshw -short -C network

lshw: command not found

huh, debian doesn't have lshw?

7:15 AM
should I install it?

what the f ?

I had to install iwconfig for example
wasn't there

hi guys!

it does look like lshw is indeed not installed by default

@towc echo $PATH ?

7:17 AM
I am new to askubuntu, trying to post an answer but the can't indent the code.

@Serg that does work, why?

askubuntu.com/a/792621/417607 Please help if possible.

@AbhishekBhatia select code and CTRL-K

@towc what's the output ?

@towc doesn't work

7:19 AM
/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usb/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin
@Serg

Hmmm , sbin is included , that means ifconfig really isn't installed . Suse had this problem because /sbin wasnt included by default into PATH hence i couldn't find ifconfig

@AbhishekBhatia ctrl+k works for me on your answer

I installed ifconfig manually

@edwinksl can you please edit to indent to be sure, It doesn't for me.

oh, nvm, it was already there

7:21 AM
@towc best i can tell you is . . . install something else, you don't want broken OS. Get Ubuntu, Deepin, whatever. Maybe even stable Debian . Because this is excuse my language r8Rded

@AbhishekBhatia okay, let me do it and then you can see what i did

@Serg I come from ubuntu, wanted to expand my horizons and a few people suggested debian, after I failed terribly with arch

@towc if you want expand horizons with OS , get virtual machine and install there - it's much less problematic :) I've like 6 virtual machines : Deepin, freebsd, arch , CentOS , whatever else . . . .
$ ls VirtualBox\ VMs/
Arch/  CentOS/  Deepin15/  (Official) Ubuntu 16.04/  Xienial/
bsd/   Deepin/  Kylin/     Ubuntu 15.10/
Jeez, i need to clean up

@Serg rofl Xienial, nice one
xieerqi ftw

7:27 AM
@edwinksl yeah, well , my spelling skills ain't ze bezt

@Serg i thought you did it intentionally

@edwinksl nope, honestly not intentional . Probably force of habit of typing my own name ?

@Serg well i just gave you one reason for the "misspelling"

By the way, found a dump of emails and passwords for dropbox accounts and passwords . Thank god mine isn't there :3
I checked the date by the way, today. Very very soon I'll become 26 . . . holly /bin/sh

@Serg Then I will be 30 years older than you :)

7:32 AM
there must be another way
I must be missing something

@andrew.46 I see we have people with experience here :)

:0

only installing the firmware packages should do it right? Nothing else?
apparently there is something else
debian 8.5, installation from CD (not netinstall) on a toshiba satellite
iwlwifi and rtl firmware missing
download firmware-iwlwifi and firmware-realtek to usb and dpkg it
/lib/firmware now populated with iwlwifi files at /lib/firmware and realtek files at /lib/firmware/rtl_wifi
reboot. Ifconfig still only shows "lo"

@towc do sudo lsmod , let us know what that says

lot of things, what are you looking for?

7:37 AM
What is the default firewall for Debian 8?

@towc just paste all of it
it's a list of drivers

can't paste, it's on a different laptop
can take a photo tho

@towc ok , how about sudo lsmod | grep iwlwifi

@Serg No experience, just old age

@andrew.46 eh, more than me anyway :/

7:41 AM
iwlwifi 96547 1 iwlmvm

So . . . .driver is there . . . . but it's not working ?

cfg80211 405538 3 iwlwifi,mac80211,iwlmvm
if it was working ifconfig should display more than lo, right? Or is there another way to check?

@towc well, what about sudo rfkill list
do any of them say Hard Blocked : yes ?

rfkill is not a command :/
I'll install it I guess

Just install different OS , it's a waste of your time
/smh

7:44 AM
I'm determined, sorry
[]
nothing blocked
it finds hci0 (bluetooth) and phy0 (wlan)

@serg, dmesg | grep wifi could give some nice info for ya
it says "unsupported splx structure", seems to be the only error/warning
also says "L1 Disabled - LTR disabled"
and that it loaded iwlwifi

if only i knew what that means . . . . .

right :P
dmesg | grep wifi outputs (all under [ some numbers] iwlwifi 0000:07:00.0:):
