7:00 PM
The United Nations?

hold on gotta look that up

An ISO committee?

user136984
Well the USS Federation recognises it.

user136984
Wait, is that the name of the Federation, or just the starship? :D :P

....

user136984
7:04 PM
Well, it is definitely recognised as an official language by the United Federation of Planets.

Rolls eyes...

ill find it some day

user136984
Ah, now I remember, the starship is called the USS Enterprise, and they just refer to the Federation as the Federation, so that is were I got confused... :P

user136984
:D

but i remember back in clinton days it was recongized

7:07 PM

user136984
Well, I know that in some parts of America you can do a degree in Klingon...

Yes

What else did you expect from Americans?
Sadly we have a lot of silly/stupid/wasteful/insert terrible thing here stuff.

Having a cancel and next button when the text states Continue

Surprising you'd bring that up, since you have no proof that code was written by an American..
I actually ran it with a different Gtk module and it worked as expected, which was weird.

7:10 PM
Maybe the API ws in something cheap

I believe the difference was one used PyGtk and the other used the other python bindings.. I forget what they're called.

libcall?

I bet it was gi.repository.

@NathanOsman You mean it isn't?

No.
View the source for any modern website. It's all lowercase.

7:18 PM
Oh
Why not?

The uppercase tags are ugly.
Reminds me too much of SQL :P

That's, like, your opinion dude.

Yes, but it's shared by virtually everyone else.

Having said that, I don't capitalize my tags anymore either but I thought it was still the norm.

unless you play in SQL you have no idea how ugle UC tags are

7:19 PM
Not only that, typing uppercase letters on a keyboard is more awkward.

@NathanOsman That's why I don't do it :)
Despite thinking it was better, I find it makes the tags stick out more when you don't have syntax highlighting.

I think the original intention was to visually separate the tags from the content. But now we have syntax highlighting.

But then I learned HTML sometime around 98 so old habits...

user136984
Does this Klingon translator work for anyone?

How would I know if it worked?

user136984
7:21 PM
Well, go there, type in some text in English, and ask it to convert.

user136984
And see if it does anything.

@Toroidal Nope

user136984
Good...

broke

user136984
Well, that's not good, but it's good that it isn't just me!

user136984
7:22 PM
:D

@Toroidal Try different browsers. It probably only works on IE or something

user136984
Ok

Has anyone had a chance yet to try out the NitroShare builds I released?

Argh! Stupid Apple :P

user136984
@RPiAwesomeness OS? Or Fruit?

7:32 PM
OS. iTunes + iTunes store really.
I wanted to subscribe to the Hello Internet podcast, but it friggin says that the requested thing isn't available in the US store when it clearly is.
Same thing if I try to just browse the store.
It's the new version of iTunes I think :P

user136984
Does anybody have any idea about what these errors could be about and if they are anything to worry about?

Q: ClamAV: Can't read file ERROR

ToroidalWhen running the command today: sudo clamscan -r --detect-pua / > clamscan1.txt I got very many errors going along the lines of these ones: /sys/fs/ecryptfs/version: Can't read file ERROR /sys/fs/ext4/sda1/inode_readahead_blks: Can't read file ERROR /sys/fs/ext4/sda1/mb_max_to_scan: Can't rea...

user136984
:)

Why are you running an antivirus scanner in the first place?

user136984
I'm paranoid.

7:36 PM
@NathanOsman I haven't had time to collect two computers, but I might be able to do it later today..

No problem - just curious.

@Toroidal Umm...
If you're paranoid, you have far more important security issues to worry about than viruses. Viruses are a non-issue in the non-windows world. SSL on the other hand...

user136984
Well, no matter why I am running the scan, I would still like to know what the errors are about and if they are anything to worry about.

user136984
:)

user136984
7:39 PM
Because even if I probably won't get a virus, I could give a virus accidentally then to someone who uses Windows that I have contact with.

I don't think you can, especially not in those locations.
It's most likely just a permissions issue
same thing happens when I do backups of my PC

@Toroidal Not really, no. They would need to infect you in order to be able to propagate. Worst case scenario is you receive an infected file from someone and pass it along. Can't do it accidentally though, I mean it can't send itself.

and that ^

Anyway, no I wouldn't worry about those errors, files in /sys are not regular files.

user136984
Ok

user136984
7:42 PM
By the way, I have added some more information from my Terminal errors which were coming too to my question. And judging by these it is probably a permissions problem.

user136984
But why do I not have the correct permissions to scan these?

@NathanOsman sorry, been busy lately. I have some days this week I can try.

Awesome.

user136984
As I did do the sudo command before the rest of it, so it should have run it will superuser privilages.

@NathanOsman I'll give it a try if I have time once I finish testing the Pi 2, if that's any help :)

7:47 PM
@Toroidal Yes but /sys is special. They're not normal files.

user136984
Ok

sysfs is a virtual file system provided by the Linux kernel. By using virtual files, sysfs exports information about various kernel subsystems, hardware devices and associated device drivers from the kernel's device model to user space. In addition to providing information about various devices and kernel subsystems, exported virtual files are also used for their configuring. sysfs provides similar functionality as the sysctl mechanism found in BSD operating systems, with the difference that sysfs is implemented as a virtual file system instead of being a purpose-built kernel mechanism. =...
$ mount | grep  '/sys '
sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw,nosuid, nodev, noexec, relatime)

@Toroidal bing has klingnon it looks like

I don't know the details (so I can't post an answer) but stuff in sys is weird and does not behave like a regular file.

thinkgeek.com/product/1ba2 @Toroidal here you go ;)
lol

user136984
8:05 PM
@Mateo Ok, thanks! :)

Argh... dealing with an ugly repaint issue in Qt :(

user136984

user136984

user136984
boxes 'oH

8:11 PM
that works better.
transate: earthlings ghaH 'ej Duvan, chay'?
translate:earthlings ghaH 'ej Duvan, chay'?
(from Swedish) earthlings ghaH ' not Pigeon, chay '?

user136984
nuqDaq?

no, that's not right ;)
translate kl: earthlings ghaH 'ej Duvan, chay'?
hmm.

user136984
nuq vIghel SoH?

user136984
It translates to "Greetings earthlings, how is this?".

Not on bing it doesnt..

8:14 PM
@Toroidal "of him and what's going on?" Is what it gave me..

Translate klh: earthlings ghaH 'ej Duvan, chay'?
translate tlh: earthlings ghaH 'ej Duvan, chay'?
(from Swedish) earthlings ghah wej Pigeon, chay?
lol

user136984
Well bing converted "Greetings earthlings, how is this?" to "earthlings ghaH 'ej Duvan, chay'?".

Bing thinks it is Swedish.

user136984
:D

@Seth turn off the auto detect

8:14 PM
It isn't much of a language, hence messy translations.
@Mateo I was being lazy and using the SE bot :P
Even when I do it on the bing site it doesn't translate to that though...

Ah...

user136984
Well apparently they got an actual university linguist to make the Klingon language, and apparently it also has it's very own grammar and everything, and is really a real language different in words and structure to any other.

yes, but they didn't actually invent that many words.

user136984
I wonder though if there is an actual reliable Klingon translator...

Just what they needed for the show and anything else came up afterward.
Which is why I believe it doesn't work too well.

user136984
8:17 PM
You mean that the language developed, and when people needed to say more in the language, new words were invented, sounds like any other language to me...

Right, except there still isn't a "standard" and I'm sure a number of words you input into the translator have no real translation.

user136984
Well then it's up for us to make up those new words! ;)

@Mateo How is that not abuse...

user136984
If you need a word, make it up!

user136984
8:19 PM
;D

@Seth I don't know. Apparently there are schools and dedicated groups that speak it to each other.

@RPiAwesomeness Trying to tell someone else what language they need to speak to their child in would be abuse IMO. I'm not thrilled to learn it of that, I don't think it is a good idea, but I hardly feel I have the right to force them to do something different.

@Seth True...
I was thinking like our government :P

@terdon That's one thing I've never been able to figure out.. I could be wrong, that's just what I remember reading. Maybe what I was reading was really old? It's been a long time since the language was conjured I guess..
@RPiAwesomeness better stop thinking like that or bad things could happen D:

@Seth ikr. D:

8:22 PM
According to wikipedia:
> A small number of people are capable of conversing in Klingon. Arika Okrent guessed in her book In the Land of Invented Languages that there might be 20–30 fluent speakers.
I thought there were considerably more.

My dad has a Klingon dictionary downstairs somewhere...

I don't like this trend of extending camera sensors..
lol, Austin in the background.

Is Austin photobombing with his spiky hair again?

Something like that ;)
They were collaborating.

8:26 PM
Marques is so serious and Austin to silly. It's really funny to watch.

It is. They're quite different.

user136984
That kli.org website that you (@terdon) mentioned is actually on 4 well known blacklists for spamming... I wonder if the spam is in Klingon... :P ;D

Have you watched any of Austin's old videos? Holy cow has he cut down his accent a crap ton

> To the people that are saying "You don't need external storage":
My music library is 46GB.
O_O

8:27 PM
@RPiAwesomeness no, I haven't actually.

O.O
f 1.9
that's not half bad for a camera

@Seth Mine's 83G

@Seth the want you to stream and pay for it over and over and over....

Movies and series:359G

My music is currently @ 3.0GB

8:28 PM
Wow.

Granted, that's not all of it - I still have to transfer some from my laptop

My collection is like 5MB :P

@Seth Wha?

^ this

Remember that I come from the age before streaming was available.

8:29 PM
Hm. IR sensor tap for a selfie. Interesting idea

I don't really listen to music ;)

@Seth Apparently not :)

@Seth That is like just enough for only the my little pony theme song...

hmm, I'll have to actually check.
Now that I think about it it's probably bigger. I'm not sure how big the average song is :P

About 4

8:34 PM
A very rough rule of thumb is 1min =~ 1M

I do prefer the look of the new Samsung phones over the older S phones

user136984
By the way, does anyone know where one can learn Klingon?

@terdon well in that case I was way off o_O
okay, did any of you see this?
It is HILARIOUS!

Where is that horrible place? Is that LA? I can't believe how garish everything looks.

It's in Caly.
That's all I know :P

8:49 PM
I thought I saw starts on the street there so it might be whachamacallit boulevard

9:01 PM
Argh
Stupid links
There we go.
For those who like bobble heads

Q: A very unique problem

Brian WhettenI tried starting up my personal computer today, only to find that it had serious difficulties. I found out that a younger brother had started it up once, and at some point during the boot up had typed in: jh I've tried going through grub, and now that isn't quite working. If anybody has a for-...

10:13 PM
@Toroidal: я тоже ...

10:30 PM
@Seth lol, "Apple is finally catching up, right?"

10:51 PM
@seth erg now I have strange recommendations in my youtube...

@Mateo yeah, I really hate that about youtube. A lot of the time I don't care about its recommendations.

maybe if I could only turn it on to when I like a video...
just random clicks, and second long views don't really mean I like an entire genre on vids...

exactly.

Agreed.

Phoo.
Who knew recording the screen a Raspberry Pi is connected to would be so complicated
Well...more of filming boot times for various combinations of SD cards and Pis was complicated.
But so was the setup

11:04 PM
I have a video capture card I can connect to the composite video output on my Pi.

@NathanOsman I really wish I had one of those :P

^--- used in that video

Eventually

Really, the quality isn't that good.

But there are more pressing purchases at hand (moar RAM, moar storage, mechanical keyboard, high-DPI mouse)
etc.

11:06 PM
The really good ones (with HDMI) are quite expensive (>$100).
@RPiAwesomeness Yeah, RAM is probably your best bet.
When people ask me what to upgrade, I always say "RAM" unless they already have like 16 GB or something.

Yeah, definitely
And, if I get a good desk + lighting, my videos will become soooooo much easier to make
as I'll be able to just do it on my desk, in my room.
I want to get some of the lights like MS Tech has
NOT Microsoft
I'm gonna most likely get the desk this summer, along with a repainted room (finally)
