Pip
10:19 PM
hahahaha

@Jon sbyte, ushort, uint and unlong are not CLS comliant

Jon
10:31 PM
anyone ever use this?
can't find a video on youtube of it

"Bloom seamlessly integrates both vector and raster editing, automatically converting between the two as necessary." :o

> No Accidental Bi-Monthly Openings of the Bridge
From the feature list :P

Jon
it must be crappy
otherwise they would have some better videos

Haha the sound quality is awful

Jon
10:38 PM
And I still don't understand what exact benefits they provide

Mix between inkscape and gimp I think

Jon
i mean, I don't clearly see why I would use this

True.. I don't know either :P

Jon

Meh

Jon
10:46 PM
all his stuff is meh.

FINALLY
Someone who agrees!

10:58 PM
Did someone ever say his stuff was amazing?

Reddit...

It's amazing that he does this stuff for free
For free assets it is amazing
but it's not the aesthetic for the next hit indie game

Jon
its totally fine

It's just that whenever he releases anything reddit goes like: OMG THANK YOU THOSE ARE SO AMAZING

Jon
well they are free
and yeah, reddit loves him
reddit seems to love dumb shit
The smarter the article, the less attention it gets
if it is a comic with like 5 frames or less, top upvotes

that whole article is, wat
nobody's forcing you to write code any certain way
okay, so Unity's tutorial is bad perhaps

so let's create a whole messaging system instead of referencing strongly-typed vars? okay then

I had a tonne of coupling in my last project because I had to toss it together in a hurry...
Yeah I didn't like his approach, but coupling is annoying at times :\

Jon
the guy is just full of shit
in my opinion
he hates on unity to justify his system

11:10 PM
:P

hating on unity is only natural :D

Jon
He seems to come from this corporate attitude
Gamedev is not this stringent
you can have public properties
its not a big deal
its not like you are going to hand over a lib to someone

True. Don't Unity already have a message system anyways?

yeah, GameObject.SendMessage, and you can pass in vars

But only a single var, right?

11:12 PM
think so, though you can pass in a list
I only use it for messaging between UnityScript and C# things when I can't get the DLLs to compile and see each other or w/e

Jon
imagine this guy come into your project, and put this into the codebase.
then alter all your existing modules to use it

messages everywhere

Jon
first step -- revert his code changes, and kick him off the project

probably would have zero stack traces

Jon
11:14 PM
then he would rant on his blog about how stupid you are
LOL, someone ranted back at him in the comments
he replied
like a child
Enlighten us oh god of knowledge and back your words.

By the way, you're missing the WHOLE point of the article. In our custom solution, we're actually using queues, this was simple article to give some light on a recurrent problem.

And yes, the PHP community is highly populated by people that doesn't understand the difference between a double and a float, which indeed is something shared with the Unity community, and that's visible in a lot of code you see out there.

By the way, what games have you worked on? I'd love to check them.

yeah.

Jon
nuff said.
gotta step out for a bit -- i'm coupled with a girl that needs a drive home

11:34 PM
@Jon the wonderful thing is such claims be made (in regards to what games you've worked on) without backing it up at all. Should have replied with something like WoW, Spore, COD:AW, FIFA 15, SimCity, The Sims 4 and a bunch of other big names aha
reminds me of a system I call "postman" that I often remake when writing large-ish C++ project
I'm really starting to get tired of C++ now

Postman xD

:P
it sends messages around man, it's a postman!
I think it'll be one of the first non-standard things I add to Sacul

Sacul?

my language

Ahh

11:43 PM
I've learnt a lot writing this, and it just keeps going
simply designing the thing has been quite the enlightening experience

Nice. Whats the aim?

Two guiding principles are:
1) Get out of the way
2) No surprises

no surprises? that sounds boring

aha
I'm talking about situations where min(-1, 1) returns 1
sounds contrived, but it happens more than you think
unsigned and signed comparisons

code a rare chance to throw an exception for no reason, maybe once a day, just to keep people on their toes

11:47 PM
ahaha
I did think of making a language called POP - Politically Oriented Programming
in which the code says one thing, but does another

haha

And make the if statement sometimes accept fakse

ahaha
I could make a language that does what it thinks you meant, but then I realised we already made JavaScript.

touché
I want a Unity plugin that lets me restrict Android screen sizes :(
without me having to build an Android Studio project ;_;

you can merge in your own AndroidManifest if that helps

11:52 PM
yeah but I just wanna select an option all lazy-like

App store might let you restrict such things too
oh right :P
but I wanna play tallowmere on my 1 inch smart watch man

nah the Play Store publishing stuff, no dice, less I want to manually go through 6,000-odd devices and see which ones are too small
lol

ouch

I can force OpenGL ES 3.0 which limits it to 1,500 devices are so
but it should run okay on devices with 2.0, but yeah small resolutions don't really work well

Works fine on my screen

11:55 PM
yeah but smaller than that
plus the High Score board gets chopped atm

How small?

600p seems okay
WSVGA

also depends on physical size

yeah there's DPI stuff and whatnot.... I mean I could redo the score board with the scalable UI system, but then you'd just see tiny text

Hmm..I have the galaxy 4 mini

11:58 PM
The game itself runs, you know, running jumping attacking
it's just the menus that would be the downside to it all

Menu looks great here in my opinion

S4 mini, 540 x 960 pixels, that's fine

Ah so lower?
