Joe
3:00 PM
went to best buy played with some chrome books.. they arent going to cut it

heh

Joe
I am looking at an Air myself
trying to find a place to sell off some extra gadgets

ok gotta head out for now. have fun

Joe
later dude
hows everyone else doing

Jon
what the heck is a full rotation in unity?
lol

Joe
3:04 PM
@Jon how far up do i need to scroll to figure out what your doing

Jon
tranform.rotation doesn't seem to map to Math.Pi

Joe
are you using Rotate Around Point?

Jon
I want to rotate around a point for 90 degrees

Jon
its cool i got it
i just kept track of the number of ticks instead.. its the unity way
yeahusing that

Joe
3:08 PM
oh sorry almo beat me to the punch like an hour ago

3:26 PM
yo
anyone use Scroll Rect much yet?

Jon

what it looks like now

4:01 PM
Nice.

4:21 PM
@Jon bullet patterns for my shmup
@JesusChrist bullet patterns for top down shooter

Jon
cool

I need to make a bunch of terms up and make some devlog videos

This is the time to make up words and have them taken seriously.

Do it right and people'll be referencing your videos for years.

4:34 PM
bunch of terms up for what?

Joe
veee-arrrrr

@erebel55 RV and other random things I want to make up terms for :P
Some of the things I use to make bullet patterns seems very strange and non intuitive but makes impressive results so I'll probably record some of that and use some made up terms for things that I am not even sure what I am doing

All I can think of when watching that samsung gear videos is this

user92578
more like NotGoodForWork

maybe
well, a co-worker pasted that for me while he was at work
so I guess it depends, I know there are some workplaces where people watch porn openly
I can imagine someone watching that video at a workplace like that and their boss comes by "porn is fine, but screaming fish? damn you guys"

Q: Feature request: Grant chat privilege

Byte56It's been an issue for a while, brand new users who need help can't get it because their questions are off topic for the site, and they can't gain reputation because they're new to game dev (so find it hard to answer questions) and they can't ask the questions they want (because they're off topic...

5:39 PM
@Lasse LOL
Also...

Jon

nice
Especially the subtle animation for the yellow block as it turns

Jon
thanks
i should be able to whip up a small demo soon

all of sudden I want to generate jigsaw puzzles
oh, I got an idea already
now I started to feel lazy, meh I guess tomorrow is good for jigsaw generator
I have these moments a lot :(

Jon
5:58 PM
lol
I'M SUPER MOTIVate..d.... meh

super motivameh

6:16 PM
@Jon that rotation animation bothers me
@Jon make the pivot point in the center and make the pivot point not move
cause the center moves and it looks really strange
IDK what to think about tallowmere anymore. "Autoclicker Required" is kind of turning me off

Joe
6:41 PM
@AttackingHobo i think the difficulty could scale a bit slower, but its hardly "autoclicker required" from my view

Pip
hey
@Chris OMFGOMFGOMFG
TALLOWMERE ON THE THIRD
when did you say this and why was I not informed :P

Joe
@Pip you better buy two copies

Pip
y?
Multiplayer?

Joe
i was just saying represent GDSE and such

Pip
:)

6:45 PM
@Joe It's not very accessible. I don't literally want to be in pain while playing a game to the best of my abilities

Pip
Chris needs to step up his game
AAA title next, with only himself as the team

Jon
@AttackingHobo you were right
user image
4

Pip
gogogogo

@Jon 100000000000x better

Jon
ypu thanks

Joe
6:46 PM
nice and smooth

Pip
yeah, much better

But seriously tallowmere is broken because of the 60x per second attack rate
and I may be wrong, but if played on a 120hz game you could even attack faster

Pip
@Chris make note on opinion of the hobo above

@Pip we talked a ton last night. He was being stubborn about it not being a big deal at all

Pip
ah

6:47 PM
For me its game breaking

Pip
idk then

I just go around holding sheild, and the instanty I unshield I can attack at 60 times per second

Joe
@Jon now can you make that green HUD element more accurately represent the resting state of the new shape?

Jon
it is the resting location

Joe
or is the bottom longer because the element in front of it actually covers it up?

6:49 PM
@Jon make the green shape the same size as the real shape

Jon
what I need to do, is think of a better way to do it

@AttackingHobo I was thinking, could add a small input limit

Jon
i was thinking of having the same shape/color as the preview piece... and then fade out the original behind it

@Chris something at least. I can click ~12 times a second but it starts hurting my finger after a bit

Joe
throw a opacity on the GUI element also... will loook slick

6:50 PM
@Joe no it will look slice
@Jon your game looks so slice!

Jon
its so sharp is looks sliced
its so sliced cuz of how sharp i am
yahhhh

@AttackingHobo indeed. legit playing, you pace yourself, but in dire times I speed up when I think it's worth it lol

@Jon lol
@Chris I honestly just don't like playing games that physically damage my body.
I hurt my fingers pretty bad when I was playing too much crazy taxi

Joe
make you damage your body you mean

self control!
I know what you mean though

6:54 PM
I am competitive. I want to play as good as I can possibly play, and if the game doesn't have sane limits I avoid it

Joe
set left mouse hold to repeat attack at the designated fastest pace
see how horrible it feels

@Joe thats what I did
I used an autoclicker
It was fun for a bit then just annoying

Joe
im saying chris should try it as a test
worth an experiment

@Joe it's boring, unless maybe it was done in spurts
mmm

none of the charging enemies could touch me
and I could take down bosses way too fast

Joe
6:55 PM
this is an interesting limitation and couldbe a new mechanic
implement this... and you could introduce attack speed attributes easily

Jon
yeah
i think this should be fixed

I want to use skill to beat the game, not physical endurance

Jon
introduce a artificial input lag

No not lag. just a rate limiter

Jon
well yeah thats what I meant
max click speed basically

Joe
6:56 PM
@Jon MAYBE... I think its worth looking into though

If I wanted to play a game with physical endurance I would go outside
I want strategy and positioning to determin my skill, not how fast I can click

Joe
I honestly dont mind it

Jon
i think i might pick up smoking

Joe
but I think its a valid point

Plus it looks shitty. The ax rarely looks like moves. occasionally goes backwards. otherwise its just out forward
@Jon cigs?

Jon
6:59 PM
yep
11$ a pack now
i think

Fucking disgusting

Jon
looks awesome just figured i'd start doing it

Joe
sounds like a well thought out plan lol
hard habit to shake, for me it was at least

Pip
I think it's a bad idea
but then again, it's your life to ruin @Jon :P

Joe
you should start on the easy stuff

Jon
7:14 PM
i prefer these

I had candy cigs as a kid
never smoked real ones though

Jon
i actually smoked for about 5 years
way back when i was a stupid kid

heh
my wife used to smoke
but only when others were
she'll still have one on occasion, like once every 6 months to a year
they don't have the affect of addiction in her for some reason

Joe
its a shitty addiction i been struggling with having quit for a while

I read about what nicotine does to you brain cells on wikipedia... sounds like a really really hard thing to break

Joe
7:20 PM
even this conversation is giving me second thoughts lol and ive been quit for years

oh no
don't do it man!

Joe
haha i wont unless today takes a horrible turn for the worse but its something that you are just stuck with

smoke it
it's all from the devil, thou

Joe
last thing I would do... is listen to @JesusChrist so ill be allright
lol

the power of Christ compels you

Jon
7:23 PM
which is basically turning water into wine
oh yeah, and walking on water

Joe
that could be an expensive talent depending on the quality of the wine

Jon
probably really shitty wine
0.5%

So a guy with a gun just got inside the building of the main news show in The Netherlands and demanded time on air.
Luckily, he has been apprehended.

7:41 PM
Anyone hurt? Or was it just "a guy with a gun"?

Jon
crazy people

Pip
yep

No one seems to be hurt.

Jon
8:09 PM

alright, adding an attack rate limit of 80ms, about 12.5 attacks per second

Jon
cracked under the pressure

;)
this is what testing is for

Pip
quiet in here today
@Chris ETA of beta?

Jon
Make a game, and call it Beta

Pip
8:18 PM
lol
Alpha of Beta released
Now in Beta!

if you've bought it before there's keys available

Pip
on... uh... where was it

indiegamestand
?

Pip
maybe
I'll find out
cool, the "Request Steam Key" thing worked
now to try it on Steam

sweet

Jon
8:20 PM
i gotta redeem mine too

Pip
The Arch Linux Steam version is hella sketch
there's an OpenGL error but it still works :P

Jon
Error you suck!

Pip
lol

yeah I had some OpenGL error on Ubuntu to when launching Steam?

Pip
god damnit it has to update too :/

8:21 PM
I was reading up on a fix, you have to delete some Steam files or something?

Pip
@Chris yeah, it's because Steam ships with it's own libs

yeah.... eh.

Pip
it overrides the system ones

I got it fixed and it played smoother
but then Steam updated and it reverted the changes I made lol

Pip
I've never heard about that on Ubuntu before, huh

8:22 PM
yeah I dunno, was new to me

Pip
yeah, it does that. There's an issue on Github

whereas say on SteamOS, everything was super smooth, the install, the drivers
was quite impressed

Pip
noice

really is made for a living room console box

Pip
cool. How does it compare to other consoles?

8:25 PM
I mean if the games you want to play are on Steam and have controller support, could be a serious option to consider

Pip
also, what are the min specs for Tallowmere on Linux? This laptop has some pretty bad specs
cool

@Pip like, ideally maybe 2 GHz for decent play? My old 1 GHz laptop runs it, kinda poorly but it's still playable
as one customer said, "this runs on my crapbox yay"

Pip
cool
The processer is like... 1.6 GZ I THINK

should be okay

Pip
apparently it's 1.2 GZ
but we'll see
how did you make the assets so tiny?

8:29 PM
low res pixel art

Pip
eh, that's true

Jon
liar

Pip
Also, my RAM is DDR2 D:<
again.... this laptop is from 2010 or something, so...
It was crappy then too (kinda)

sprites are like 12 MB
sounds/music are 100 MB lol
my laptop is from 2007

Pip
wow, only 12MB

Jon
8:33 PM
2007 in computer years is pretty significant
if it runs on a 2007 pc, it probably runs on pretty much anything now

1 GHz, 1 GB RAM
loads slowly and input delay is kind of arse, but it goes

Pip
@Chris can I run it from command line? It crashes immediately

Jon
i have an older dell laptop

@Pip it's probably that OpenGL crap
lemme try and find the log file location

Pip
kk
config works, window opens, then crash

Jon
8:37 PM
blame it on the rain

~/.config/unity3d/Chris McFarland/Tallowmere/Player.log
does that exist?

Pip
hmmm
I can't find the game root

/home/.steam/steam/SteamApps/common ?
but I think the log goes elsewhere as above

Pip
huh
I'll find out
Alright, found Tallowmere
found the log

can you paste it?

Pip
8:41 PM
yeah
says GPU not supported

"PlayerInitEngineGraphics: GPU not supported; OpenGL GLSL support is required."
ah damn
yeah that's cuz of that OpenGL error on steam startup
graphics drivers are being dumb

Pip
yeah
Hm, some initiative to fix that :D

unfortunately the fix is up to the user >_<
arrgh hmm
and it's cuz of that steam malarky

Pip
yeah

Pip
8:45 PM
yeah, following instructions

@Pip always working so hard to get linux to prove itself.

Pip
it does it automatically
@Chris
[user@BEN-PC-ARCH Tallowmere]$ find ~/.steam/root/ \( -name "libgcc_s.so*" -o -name "libstdc++.so*" -o -name "libxcb.so*" \) -print -delete
/home/user/.steam/root/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1
/home/user/.steam/root/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libxcb.so.1
/home/user/.steam/root/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6.0.18
/home/user/.steam/root/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libxcb.so.1.1.0

so if you restart steam
no OpenGL error?
I'll have to try this again myself and make a thread in my forum

Pip
works well now
very well, actually
that's the command to remote all libs on a linux system btw
pretty sure that isn't arch specific

yep cool
glad it's sorted, thanks for testing
I will write this up soon

Pip
8:52 PM
no probs
I'll ttyl, gotta head home

byee
