> The Aluminum Wedge of Aiud is a wedge-shaped object found two kilometers east of Aiud, Romania, on the banks of the Mures River in 1974. The object was reported to be unearthed 35 feet under sand and alongside two mastodon bones. A mastodon is an extinct large tusked mammal species. Physically, the artifact looked similar to the head of a hammer.
neat, this one is from Romania

8:31 AM
@AlexM. The pub is dying! You. Must. Save. It.

SHIT BLUEBUG YOU ARE RIGHT

only you can do it alex, you are the chosen one.

WE MUST SAVE THE DAY ONCE MORE
TO THE SEXMOBILE

xD sexmobile

(and get your hanbok ready)

hanboks are nice
together with japanese yukatas
best thing from asia
I like

first is more formal style, second is more of "KiMoNo" style, types of hanbok that pub girls used to wear.

I like the first best

yeah very fancy , super expansive as well.
this one's more "real"
something that most middle class would wear
Kisaeng (also spelled gisaeng), sometimes called ginyeo (기녀), were officially sanctioned Korean female entertainers or sometimes prostitutes. Kisaeng are artists who work to entertain others, such as the yangbans and kings. First appearing in the Goryeo Dynasty, kisaeng were legally entertainers of the government, required to perform various functions for the state. Many were employed at court, but they were also spread throughout the country. They were carefully trained, and frequently accomplished in the fine arts, poetry, and prose, although their talents were often ignored due to th...

8:51 AM
I like that they're all colorful

Must be. Kisaengs are usually very high class service providers. They are basically Korean version of Geisha.
, except with that white face make up.

the white face always seemed ugly to me

It's more of signature that's saying "I am female sex worker" Like in Korea, Kisaeeng hold their hair up, instead "white face"

interesting considering it would instantly kill my boner
but hey that's just me
the hair solution is better
and sort of hot

9:07 AM
it's both hot and sad, I think. They are taking pride in their job but doing so they repel any "meaningful" engagement with males. Many of them die without children, growing old alone. If they get lucky, they may get to stay in the game as more of "director" or play role of "teacher".
no children, because they usually don't sleep with their clients; just pour drinks, sing, and dance instead.

your prostitutes seem inefficient

xD

rather
your men seem very
needless

but it's more compelling; sells more. It is more appealing if you can't actually attempt to do it but only "dream" about it.

I don't see the appeal in teasing
but hey, that's again just me

9:19 AM
Alright peeps

well it's not only about teasing you know, they smile at you and laugh at your stories no matter how silly they are. They make you feel important and pretend to be your friend. So that time you "buy" from them is sorta real enough.

What's with all the ginyeo?

@Blue so, got married?

Not yet, next year mate

oh :(
it's been a while since you've last been here
how's things

9:20 AM
No unhappy face needed man, I've just been working hard.
UI Testing in WPF is a pain.
Been good, you?

wooha many people marry. I feel so like kid.

@Blue can't complain I guess
I always wondered why people would choose WPF over winforms
what's special about WPF?
@BlueBug I'm not

Separation of business layer from presentation layer.
It allows restyling without affecting the functionality of the business logic or responsiveness of the UI.

@AlexM. I am not either yet. I think we are still young, if you know what I mean ;)

@BlueBug Stroll through Akihabara at nearly any time of the day or evening, and you'll encounter something similar - young women in colourful maid costumes advertising either "maid cafés" (where you get to relax while one such serves you food and drinks and calls you "master") or "escort services" where one or two (typically two, for their security) run around town with you for an hour or so.

9:25 AM
haha yeah there are also shops where you pay to sit down with a maid or something and let her touch you but nothing more
@Blue yeah that makes sense afaik the UI is XML defined

Exactly

@BlueBug I'm not sure I'll marry anytime soon

@MartinSojka yeah I think that's the new trend of "Ginyeo" Modern day Geisha

Unfortunately that means that the UI elements are unique within a visual tree rather than a logical one.
Makes test mapping difficult.

@AlexM. but, but... hides the ring quickly nvm.

9:27 AM
I'll take 2

Oh god stop.

maids
the cake can go to Blue
we don't want to ruin his marriage :D

@AlexM. Given that straight prostitution is illegal in Japan, anything "more" is not talked about.

Couldn't ruin my marriage if you tried :D

@BlueBug you didn't want to wear a hanbok for me
so you don't get to marry me

9:29 AM
@AlexM. "It will be total 23700 yen :D"

I'm a profit > investment guy
so all I invest in someone has to be paid back

:( you can put anything on me once we sign the legal terms. All I wanted was your... luv.

nuh-uh
upfront only

what is love. If you can't accept me as who I am, maybe we are not meant to be. I didn't expect finding the "right one" to be this hard. sigh
@MartinSojka That sounds so odd. So direct sex offer is illegal, but what about porn industry?

everything is censored
that's why they use so many tentacles

9:37 AM
@BlueBug That's different, apparently. Why, how, where's the logic in that? I don't know, and I doubt the Japanese do. In doubt, repeat with Tevye: Tradition!

xD
"... forbids distributing "indecent" materials, it is believed that most pornography in Japan must be at least partially censored...On the July 2013, the three staff members from the Core Magazine were arrested for having their manga almost censored. He pleaded guilty later in December 2013. As a result of the arrest, numerous artists and publishers began to have more self-censorship "
It appears, from reading, you can have much exposure as long as you are not "direct".

> Seda was convicted in 1998, and sentenced to 83 years and 4 months in prison. He will be eligible for parole when he is 113 years old.
what's the logic in this?
guess every country has its quirks

Quirks != death sentence equivalence in prison.

isn't that a lifetime imprisonment?
I mean death sentences are carried out on the spot

As far as that man is concerned, his life it over.

9:44 AM
"suffer life almost equivalent to death rotting in prison"

^

yes but what's the point of even thinking about parole at the age of 113
what's the point of all the paperwork in that case
just call it a lifetime sentence and leave it at that
also I've seen someone getting two lifetime sentences once
what the hell, that's like adding two infinities together

I think any permanent form of punishment is cruel no matter how heavy the crime may be.

yeah
in a society ran by me in the case of murderers I'd just give a gun to the people affected by the victim's death
and let them decide the killer's fate

That's even more cruel xD lol

9:50 AM
no it's not
if someone's son is killed I believe the father is the most fit to serve punishment

I think the most "fair" punishment that can be given is from perspective "what if it was me? what if it was my son who killed someone else's son?"

then nobody would do anything
I'd be able to kill you without fearing anything
:D

I would try to register my son for ever lasting rehab hoping that at the end of process, my son is no longer "murderer" ; like they brainwash you not to kill someone, but again, I guess this sort of approach can deliver no forceful restrictions(like you said, you won't fear the system). What a topic, no easy out answer.

@AlexM. We tried that. It didn't work too well. Then we tried weregild, but it was only mildly better; it prevented most of the disastrous feuds, but made it so that the poor were even less likely to get anything resembling justice.

Weregild (also spelled wergild, wergeld, weregeld, etc.) was a value placed on every human being and every piece of property in the Salic Code. Also known as "man price". If property was stolen, or someone was injured or killed, the guilty person would have to pay weregild as restitution to the victim's family or to the owner of the property. The payment of weregild was an important legal mechanism in early Germanic society; the other common form of legal reparation at this time was blood revenge. The payment was typically made to the family or to the clan. No distinction was made b...
that's interesting
^ this girl killed her classmate for calling her fat
you can definitely see the insanity of that face

Jon
@AlexM. my HTC one is awesome

neat

Jon
First one they gave me crashed out on me a lot..

I'll get to try mine soon

Jon
I returned it, and the second one they gave me hasn't crashed yet
hardware issue for sure

10:10 AM
gotta go for now, cya later

@hasherr hello

Jon
10:29 AM
Coffee shop next to my work, opens at 7 AM. The guy working there was having a smoke right in the front of the store at 6:55AM, while a line was formed at the door, about 10 people.
I walked by, he casually smoked his cigarette, like he was truly enjoying making all these people wait.
Blacklisted that guy.

If he had bad coffee he would not have line, and what if that was his only time of the day he could have that smoke

Jon
Its just the location, and way he smoked it.
Its like he wanted people to watch him smoke.
ALRIGHT PEOPLE, i'm done my smoke, commmmmmmon in!

hii
i have one problem in unity game

10:44 AM
@AnkurSamarya Before you shoot, have you tried "unity answers" ?

Jon
Its just one problem how bad can it be?
slight oversight in the application engineering department for my current project here... ugh

yes @bluebug

then @AnkurSamarya shoot :D!

Q: Finish UnityPlayerActivity in android unity project

Ankur SamaryaI am working on unity project and in my project I extend UnityPlayerActivity with PlayScreenActivity. There are also other activity from which I started the PlayScreenActivity so, I want to finish PlayScreenActivity after finishing gameplay, but when I call finish() method then it close applicati...

Jon
What is UnityPlayerActivity?

10:58 AM
Android Unity plugins base class thingy, I think.

Jon
Ah, I see, it is specific to Android

"import com.unity3d.player.UnityPlayerActivity;"

Jon
Yeah, I just can't find docs on that class anywhere

o_o Is this for working on Eclipse using Unity? codestalkers.com/blog/android-plugins

Jon
Probably just a wrapper for the Android Activity class?

11:06 AM
You could do Eclipse Android stuff then launch Unity from it if you start game? I hadn't tried anything like this. cul. o_o

@BlueBug

11:20 AM
@AnkurSamarya Sorry mate, I lack experience for this. I haven't done anything like this. But I am sure if you can find documentation, it should certainly be less of issue.

11:41 AM

Jon
Be cooler if you could generate the breaks instead of using the same pattern

deformable 2d terrain. It would have taken me months to do this without Unity. hails to Unity creators

Jon
You doing it with a mesh?

@Jon Challenge accepted!
mesh, but "polygon colider 2d"

11:50 AM
"We are all made out of star dust, and God made star dust. Except woman, who are made out of a rip of a man."

Jon
12:49 PM

Look, Ma! No feet!
Surely he knows a Go-Pro has better resolution than the webcam?

@BlueBug Unity C# or UnityScript ? Just wondering if it would be worth it to learn one of those langauges or just go for a c++ engine
Can anyone help me out with this problem?
I made two functions to add/remove objects from the world without starting Garbage Collection (I hope) But while it works to add/remove 1. http://codepen.io/anon/pen/KJvsH?editors=101
Using a for loop to add / remove 100 bugs up!
http://codepen.io/schoening/full/aKBFH

Jon
1:17 PM
what's the problem?
At quick glance, your pool size seems to be dynamic
Your pool implementation is really weird.

@Jon How's it weird ?
Yeah its a dynamic pool. If that means I can add / remove however much I like ?

Jon
Typically, you would specify a starting pool size..
The point of a pool is to initialize a block of memory that you will re-use
Having it grow / shrink kinda defeats the purpose of a pool structure

It's javascript so its dynamic anyways. The thing I tried to do is reduce Garbage Collection by not letting objects out of scope
And isnt what you are saying easily fixed by just destroying the old array and replacing it with a new one?
Thus if I know I need 100 objects. I can create a 100 object array. But if I ever need more, It would just replace the old one

Jon
Yeah, you are right.
I need to shift my thinking here.

But only about the second part ? I am not familiar with the whole block of memory. No idea how it works in js.

Jon
1:29 PM
Well, a pool, you would initialize an x-amount of objects, and set them as Not Active. When you want to use one, you would set it to Active, and process it.
In JS, memory is a whole different thing

Yeah. I think I am doing that in my code. At least that was the plan

Jon
You got me interested in JS pools now

It just so happens that I start out with 0
BUT. I am not destroying the old one right now. At least not intentionally. I just add / remove from it
I put the question on reddit too. I hope I get an answer today or tomorrow

Jon
cool. my html5+js+canvas skills are nearly 0
But I am interested in this problem .

Pretty sure it occurs around line 63
Just odd that 100 objects added and then 100 removed does not give me 0 ...

Jon
1:34 PM
Here
I think when you remove, they are not removed.
and here

Thanks for the link

Jon
source code example should be more helpful

Jon
yeah, its a small class. easy to understand

Now you just have to do one more thing @Jon You have to tell me that its OK to use other peoples libraries instead of writing it yourself xD
I always feel a bit bad about it haha

Jon
1:37 PM
For certain things sure. my current C# pool class is ripped off someone else's.. and slightly modified
If you are doing it to learn though.. don't

@OliverSchöning C# but :D someone said that you must at least give Unity a shot. I totally agree. It's such a sweet dev tool. I highly recommend it

Jon
If you look at this implementation, you can see how easy a Pool structure really is.
It is simply a collection of objects in memory..

@MickLH Can you summarize the issue for me? Can't quite follow it in the chat.

Jon
And it never releases the objects.

@BlueBug Yeah. I am mainly interested in its portability.
Thx @Jon Yeah. Thats what I tried to do via that blogposts instructions. Hopefully reading the source gives me enlightenment where I failed

1:39 PM
super portable as well.It had been easiest process to port it out to different platform(android, web) in my life

Jon
Unity to Android is awesome.
My dev laptop at home, I just hook up a android device to it, and blam instant hardware debugger
Try doing that with an iPhone

Right now I am writing my game in JavaScript. But I have seen that Unity5 will export to WebGL so I figured that might be nice for my future project
Just not a fan of learning C#... Microsoft man..

Jon
Yes, WebGL rendered coming :D
You don't need to write in C#

waaa yes! WebGL :D

Yeah but UnityScript is useless outside unity
And it is NOT JavaScript

Jon
1:42 PM
you can write in Java

So, you are basically saying that they keep adding new languages ?

Jon
sorry, its javascript not java.
naw.. there is C#/JS/US
as far as I know they are not adding more.
oh damn.. n/m
i'm mistaken
JS = unityscript.

JS != unityscript

Jon
in Unity it is.

Its a totally different langauge. It just emulates a little bit of the syntax

Jon
1:43 PM
I have been using c#.. I always thought you could write in JS
Yeah.. I meant that I thought it was JS, but it is in fact UnityScript

Marketing did it right then :D

Jon
Yeah... so C#
What's wrong with c#?

Just that its owned by Microsoft. I don't want a OS company owning a language. Especially one that is so stubborn. I mean its to big part Microsofts fault that we got so many issues with JS because they DO want to make their own standards. like DirectX over openGL. *edit
I mean.. In the end its all down to the compiler of course. So maybe I'm just silly

you guys should write in Boo.

Jon
True. If Microsoft would of had a more open attitude since the beginning, one can only imagine what c# would be today.

1:51 PM
I hesitate on C# also because MS is so central to its development.
well, also because I find it weird, but I like Obj-C so... :)

Jon
You are weird @Almo

i've been told that before. :)

@Almo As a gameplay programmer how do you feel about a weakly typed language where all functions are defined by lambda expressions, all math is truly exact, and you are allowed to use Infinity in places like number of loop iterations if it mathematically makes sense

Ok quick question. Does a Garbage Collector slow down performance if it is not used? I mean to say. What if you just got one that is optional and you don't create a lot of garbage?

Jon
Garbage Collector's impact is minimal when not in use
Main reason why you want to avoid having it run
If you profile your application, you will see spikes at ever GC

1:54 PM
I am not comfortable with lambda expressions, because I have not used them much. Seems like it could work. Weakly typed can be nice. I find the truly exact math part unnecessary, as long as it is consistent. Like would "inexact math" cause problems with a network game and deterministic simulators.

Jon
YOu'd want to minimize those spikes when profiling.

but I do have many many years of experience doing gameplay programming with the float problem, and usually if it's actually a problem, you structured something wrong.
unless I'm not understanding what you mean by "exact math"

@Almo Well when I say lambda I just mean javascript style func = function(x) { ... }

oh ok
that's quite useful

Yeah. Just wondering. Because I really like GC. And if it does not impact you much when you avoid creating garbage then that is just great.

1:56 PM
I was thinking LINQ stuff

And by exact math I literally mean exact, it handles input expressions more like an algebra program than a low level language

Jon
@MickLH isn't that just a delegate?

oh right. I would find that superfluous for gameplay programming.

Maybe

this does not mean you shouldn't do it; just that I personally wouldn't use it.

Jon
1:56 PM
hmm... i guess lamdas are just fast delegates

@Almo I actually was thinking this would be the standard viewpoint :)

Good then. :)

Sortof a feature who's main feature is that you never notice it

I really gotta learn a second programming language. Only knowing JS. Stuff just doesnt make sense hehe
One day.. I will hire a team and we will write our own language. And it will be great. And then:
