it looks like they "in some cases" require proof of who you are, which might be just getting a code through your cell phone

that would be for existing accounts that their algorithms pick up as likely having a fake name

at least that's what it seems like. I'm still a little fuzzy on that point.

guess I could try creating an account, but I need to think of a convincing fake name

What I don't understand is how verifying you have a mobile phone verifies your data is accurate

maybe they get your name from the phone company?

no clue

that's most likely it. same as caller id.

but the claim that you need to send them id to create an account is false.

now with mobile phones a lot of service providers will hide that name

so those people might still need a photo id

I just convinced my school to buy a bunch of ATTiny45, ATTiny24 and ATMega's for use in electronics.

Using a SS pin, a SCK pin, and one MOSI pin, but 5 MISO pins :)

@Almo well G+ has always had an algorithm to detect fake names and ask that you use a real one. it wouldn't let me use "icy defiance" for example. but if I came up with a convincing enough fake name it would just let me go with no problems. that's totally understandable. they probably just want to reduce the noise for their data mining or something.

I just think facebook went a little too far

we'll see if enough people leave for them to reconsider :)

younger people aren't signing up for facebook in the first place, so I think it'll die eventually anyway. just not because of anything facebook does wrong.

Facebook has groups

they don't get notifications that you've blocked them

facebook groups didn't exist when I quit using facebook, and even now they're pretty annoying to work with.

Anyone recommend a fairly cheap USB hard drive? Doesn't have to have a lot of storage, will be using it for a RasPi media center if I can keep it in my budget.

go to newegg, sort by highest rated, get the first one that doesn't cost three thousand dollars

Do you have any demands, speed, AC powered or USB powered, ?

Would prefer fairly fast, as I am going to be reading video from it, but it doesn't matter THAT much
