@Jolenealaska Oven as in "I bake cookies in" or "heater"?
@ElendilTheTall You mentioned "apple pie" yesterday - got me thinking whether I can get some good baking apples (for free, hehe) and try my hand at pâte brisée this weekend. Darn, you are a danger to my waistline!
Of course, I could go all Marie Antoinette and have pie instead of "bread", but somehow it didn't end well back then. Hm.
@FaheemMitha I'm not sure I have a question yet. I'm just trying to do some recording (having never really used the program). It's not hugely intuitive, but I've barely looked at it. My problems seem to stem from Windows 7 and the recording equipment that I'm using, more than from Audacity.
aA any rate, I'm going back to the project for now. CYA in a bit.
to a certain extent, all vertebrates display the same basic body plan as the earliest fish
fish fins have one bone, two bones, lots of bones, as you move out from the 'shoulder' - so do we, and so do elephants, shrews, and every other vertebrate with limbs
fish embryos have branchial arches, that go on to form gill slits. human embryos have branchial arches, that go on to form our ribs
in terms of true vestigiality, short tail nubs in humans are relatively common
the piece of moist pink skin in the corner of your eye next to your nose is a vestigial left over of a nictitating membrane (the kind of third eyelid you see in birds, reptiles etc)
Sometimes you see people with a little bump in the inside edge of their ear - that's Darwin's Tubercle, a vestigial leftover from our monkey-like ancestors. It's where the point of the ear would be if they were still pointy.
so yes, there are lots of things like that :)
There's a good book on this subject and related topics:
You'll find chopped onion in most braising recipes. Cooked chopped onion is one of the oldest, most widespread ingredients in the world.
I know two explanations for this popularity:
One is the flavor. Many of the plants and meats we eat taste too bland on their own, or have off-flavors, off-o...
And milk from other animals were never intended for human consumption. That is why there is such a huge case of lactose intolerance in countries with little exposure to milk from other animals
@ElendilTheTall thats different. its all part of the reproductive system where the food is to nurture the unborn chick
But in his example he's listing food created by nature for human consumption
at least thats how i understood it
"Many of the plants and meats we eat taste too bland on their own, or have off-flavors, off-odors or bitterness. After all, only fruit, milk and eggs were created by nature as foods. Animals' flesh was not. "
at least Bill kinda sorta earned his ridiculous fortune. Think of the money some dude still struggling with the concept of walking erect makes for kicking a fucking ball around a field.
@Jay I don't know because I've never had one, but I seem to recall reading something along the lines of enough to cover all your expenses for a couple of months
@Jay True. But we are at another position in life than you are. We have a house (-> monthly payments) and two children. As we are in the process of renovating our house, there is in fact more money "there", but that's budgeted for different projects.
And I feel a family network can - if push comes to shove - be part of an emergency fund. But that's different for every family.
@Jay another bit of math: Yes, reducing your student loan saves money. But having to take out a loan in case of emergency costs way more, interest-wise. Paying back student loans is a marathon, not a sprint (but with sprints whan you have the extra money, of course).
@Jay do you really need 2k per month? An emergency fund is calculated based on the bare necessities - not including cinema etc.
@Jay Just decide to put a certain amount aside for X number of months until you reach the 3 month point. After that you can just add small amounts when you can and just let it continue to grow but at a much slower rate.
so it might be a good idea to set the extra 500 aside as emergency until i have a decent amount built up before i put that 500 back into student loans?
one line said "We're impressed — you already activated this quarter's 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined bonus category purchases. Now earn even more with Shop through Chase"
i thought it meant 1500 was already charged on my card
i freaked out and checked lol
but no it only meant i had activated the quarterly benefit to have the 5% cash back each quarter
I think the "We're impressed" statement was what led to the misunderstanding
I thought it meant, we are impressed, you already spent 1500 on this card in less than a week.
I think there's a direct correlation between the high average intelligence of this room and the lack of interest in giving away all your private data social media
To add another option in our small poll: How about business networks as opposed to social networks? LinkedIn? Xing? That's something I actually use and which came in handy a few times in the past.
