7:04 PM
Hello all. Can't stay long, but wanted to let you know that the 2nd interview was rescheduled for today but went very, very well. Still in the running for #3! :)

@AnubianNoob 7 pounds, yes.

Whooo go @Cindy!

@Cindy Fingers crossed.

That's great :D

Hang on to your sanity, @Cindy.
@ElendilTheTall I don't own one. Also, I like paper books. I'm just a weirdo, I guess.
There was a funny post somewhere about what great technology paper books were.
Would be hard to dig up.

7:07 PM
Thanks guys!

@FaheemMitha you could... Buy one
I like paper books too and have shelves full of them. But I also like the convenience of the kindle. No delivery costs, no wait, no lugging heavy books on my commute

Hi Mr. @ElendilTheTall.

@cindy you fucking legend!

@ElendilTheTall I wonder if they are available in India.

@cindy Am I allowed to beam with pride?

7:11 PM
But I doubt I would buy one.
Wait till she gets the job, guys.

If you could borrow one, you might change your mind

@ElendilTheTall Of course. :)

I wasn't bothered at all. Then I was bought one for my birthday, and I'm glad I was
<beams> @Cindy

What's that in GBP?
Should be about 60/70

7:13 PM
Divide by 100 approx.
That's the current exchange rate.

@FaheemMitha whoa seriously??

That review is redundant. Proprietary electronic devices are basically impossible to repair. In the West, people usually toss them. But people in India have less money.

According to google it's only 66

@AnubianNoob Don't take my word for it. Google "pounds sterling india exchange rate".

100 would be crazy inflation

7:15 PM
@AnubianNoob Pounds, not dollars.

oh haha oops

Still like paper books.

@FaheemMitha you don't have to stop liking paper books just because you have an alternative

That's why I like the trad PC model. Interchangeable parts you can swap out. Assuming, of course, they haven't all been fried.
@ElendilTheTall True.
But I'm not really an electronic gadget kind of person. Though I do own a cell phone.
Anyway, PCs are nice. Up with PCs!
The one big advantage an electronic reading device has, is that it is searchable.
Well, no, you can store thousands of books on a single device. That's a plus too, I suppose.

And no delivery fees
And samples
And integrated front light

7:21 PM
Hmm, a built in dictionary is handy too.

Though usually I just look it up on my computer.
No biggie.
How well do ebook readers cope with being dropped on the ground?

By not dropping it
You can get a case

I've had my kindle, caseless, for about 5 years. It is stuffed in my bag every day, and I have dropped it many times. It's going strong.
@FaheemMitha the dictionary is really useful actually. And you can highlight sections and make notes directly on the kindle.

I miss my kindle dictionary. I'm reading a hard copy of Dhalgren right now and the prose is crazy

7:27 PM
Yes. I'm reading A Short Walk in the Hindu Kush in paperback at the moment and every so often go to press the button to find a word. Then I kick myself.

@ElendilTheTall Impressive.
@ElendilTheTall ok
Where does the kindle directory come from?

7:51 PM
For reasons I'm not clear on, the word "pathetic" is quite popular in India.
Hmm, these people have good rate - awesomebooks.com/about-us

Jay
@Cindy Congrats, I told you, your luck was changing soon :D So happy for you!

8:09 PM
GBP 2.99 for worldwide shipping of an unlimited quantity of books sounds too good to be true.
Maybe I'm misreading.

4 hours later…
11:46 PM
I'm grilling tofu right now
What can I add to it

Soy sauce?
Black-bean sauce?

No and no haha
I have a different thing I want to try but I need to tofu to freeze for that
Maybe soy sauce, will know in 5
