@Stiv that kinda works if you read "without no loving" as "remove a number, and a word for loving" and letting k be a number. But it's a big stretch.
Incidentally, another word for phooey is piffle. But I can't get that to work, either.
@TakingNotes Is it pin(n)ing? Pinning = can't be letting go (sort of). Without N (no). Pining = loving (sort of).

@msh210 yep!

CCCC: Art deserving of security (7)

8:53 AM
@msh210 warrant ddef ("art deserving of", where art = are; and "security"), I think?
(i.e. art deserving of = deserve)

If you can show me a way "warrant" = "security", you can have it. :-)
(That was not my intended answer.)
^ @oAlt

@msh210 Oh. MW says that a warrant = guarantee = security, and Collins says it's "something that serves to give reliable or formal assurance of something; guarantee, pledge, or security". (But hmm, I'd rather probably not take it, and instead wait for someone else to get the intended answer...)

9:09 AM
@oAlt Ah, okay then, it works well. Go ahead. (My intended answer was earnest ddef: thou art deserving of = thou earnest, and earnest that you give when you buy a house is the same as security.)
(I assumed you meant "I'd rather not take it" for altruistic reasons rather than that you really don't want to. If I misunderstood, I apologize.)

9:34 AM
@msh210 ohhh
CCCC: Sharper city (7)

tangy means sharp so this must be TANGIER ddef

@Jafe yep :)

@msh210 I think this should maybe be (9) because VER(DIG)RIS* seems extremely like the answer

@juicifer You are absolutely correct re both the answer and the enumeration. Apparently I can't count. Sorry about that.

CCCC: X-Man on hold, oddly incorporating guitar, bass, and vocalist? (3 7)

2:10 PM
x-man is clearly elon musk, head of x (previously known as twitter) and father of x musk

2:20 PM
if only that were 3 7

Q: Poor Farmer Ned

AmozFarmer Ned bought a pasture surrounded by a beautiful wooden fence. He built a dividing fence and moved his horses to one end and his cows to the other. But the next day, most of his new neighbors called to report animals in their yards. It turns out the fences were not as sturdy as he thought. N...

Q: Self-referential sequence that is sometimes powers of two

PeterI've created an integer sequence where, after the first two elements, every element is calculated using the previous two. If the first two numbers are $1$ and $3$, the sequence goes as follows: $$1, 3, 6, 8, 12, 15, 20, 22, 33, 36, 38, 57, 60, 62, 93, 96, 98, 105, 108$$ If the sequence starts wit...

Bob Bingham is a "guitar [player], bass [singer], and vocalist". Especially the latter two (he's not so much a guitarist, and even less a guitar). But I don't see, at all, how the wordplay would work.
Sub Mariner is apparently an X-Man (?), but again I don't see the wordplay.

9:52 PM
I find it hard to believe that the definition is "vocalist?": The rest of the clue is too long and too short of obvious indicators.

10:52 PM
Oppositely, the definition may just be 'X' and we're looking for something hot-topic like NEW TWITTER. I have zero wordplay. Just trying to get into the mind of the setter...

Q: 9 trees in 7 rows with 3 trees in each row

Will Octagon GibsonThe following puzzle is a variant of a puzzle published in the May 8, 1926 issue of THE WINNIPEG TRIBUNE MAGAZINE: In the picture below there are nine trees arranged in two rows with five trees in each row.
