@Burgi 2016, why do you hate us so?

3:38 PM
ffs
our ticket system has broken

you need to lodge a ticket...

you post a reply to a ticket and it returns a white screen, no PHP errors

3:53 PM
@Burgi 2016, never forget.
hmmmmmmm sounds like... mantis!

4:28 PM
Last night I was looking for some video editing software and found a top 5 on techradar and decided to download something called Avidemux and try it out. But immediately after I double clicked it to run it, Zone Alarm firewall came up and said it was a virus.
But the program had not even run yet because it had a window up saying ... do you want to allow this program to use your computer or whatever it always says... So I said no to that
I tried to treat the virus with zonealarm but it did nothing.
I went to ZA logs and it said missing .dll
I then went to close and reopen firefox because ZA suggested I do that so it could take care of the virus and when I tried to reopen it said missing dll
I had a restore point from 5 days ago so I used that and everything is fine now, but I am wondering how it could run if I didn't give it permission yet?
I couldn't think of a good way to word this so I figured it would be best to post it here in the chat.

Hi there, I hope you can help me. I need to delete 1000 registry entries, I'm using regscanner to delete each one of the registry tracks left by a heavy software. When I try to delete them, I don't succeed and then I should manually edit the permission for each one of the 1000 entries: is there any way to automatically acquire administrator functions to edit permissions of my registry and fix my problem? TY

cant you open regedit as admin?

Do you have them in a convenient format (e.g. a text file)?

@Burgi lol. and the comment asks for the php error :)

@NULL Permissions can be changed to deny access to admins, but they can be overridden by taking ownership

5:05 PM
the ZA firewall detects that the program is trying to connect to the web to do the usual download using javascript of some adware , trialware or even fraudware , some BS Off the web , the windows itself has both firewall and UAC permissions. the javascript portion of the install or first run of the program would be detected seperate.
If the firewall(s) block the install download be that at install or on first run, then there is not at that time the actual malware component added to the computer.

Hmm. What is it with the Epson WF-3520 failures? 3 questions today ... I wonder if it the same person ... too late for JMG to check.

Hi @jokerdino, is it possible to set some kind of flag on a Wikipedia page so that you get alerted if there are significant destructive edits?

@FaheemMitha I think you can watch the page, yes.

I've had problems with a WF-3640 (very similar design) myself.

@bwDraco These are all power cycling issues ... startup / turns off / repeats indefinitely

5:20 PM
The problem is that the printhead is jamming near the servicing station.

@bwDraco Is there a fix?

Unfortunately not. You'll need to send the printer in to Epson.

!! Cat

So 3 on the same day is coincidence - or a bad firmware upgrade?

5:22 PM
(sorry)

@Tiffany why? cute cats are allowed - in moderation :)

Felt rude to post a command while there was a conversation already going

You've got a jammed printhead, a very common issue with the WF-3600 series. The printhead service station, the part beneath the carriage on the right side inside the printer which cleans and maintains the printhead and keeps it capped when not in use, has a tendency to get stuck in a position where the printhead cannot park, causing it to jam. I'm not aware of any fix for this; you'll need to contact Epson support. — bwDraco 2 mins ago

np :)

interjecting without warning

5:25 PM
It's okay.

!!Caat

lol
worked for me o_O
!!Caaat

Good.
What happened to the unbox plugin?

5:26 PM
my god that is adorable.

Probably my ad blocker (someone else in this room has a tendency to abuse these commands to cause disruption).

dear oh dear

@DavidPostill once you've stack exchanged you can't go back to normal support forums...

Bang

5:31 PM
thx
And another one. Now I'm getting suspicious ...
4 identical printers fail within 2 hours?

wtf i have internet here but the wifi is down o_O

Now 6 (including me toos). Epson printer virus?

I'll see if analytics data might provide some insight into what's going on here.

Now 7

@DavidPostill run, it'sa gonna explode :-)

5:44 PM
All new users, signed up today. This is very suspicious.
I wonder if they are all spam setup questions and we are about to get a flood of "call this support number" spams ...

I see no trends on Google.

@bwDraco Exactly. I would have expected this to be all over google by now.

@DavidPostill hp breaking firmwre?
didnt the hp printers phone home and self destruct?

lol. these are epsons. maybe hp are sabotaging them ...

bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/634068/… ??? Strange findings there.
how could google print be the cause of an on/off cycle, and does that even relate to the original question.

5:56 PM
@DavidPostill because epson wouldn't pull the hp trick/?
@Psycogeek are these printers all 'smart' I.E ONLINE?
sdry 1 hand baby typing

@djsmiley2k seems like from what they are saying.
Nope, if its registered to google cloud print at all it doesn't work
examples
only registered to epson connect works great
connected to only google cloud shuts off
connected to google cloud and epson shuts off

im calling out epsom right now
hmmm weitrd
someone contact the reg
they'll love this
it was a foggy december eveing when the 3D printer revolution began

...the ferrite beads do not seem to be making a difference. I'll hold onto them for now.

angry with the high costs their paper wielding brothers commanded from users, they decided enough was enough
@bwDraco did u answer if it's a laptop or deskto btw?

It's a laptop.

6:01 PM
i think it's crosstalk on the wires themselves
hmmm drat
hard to earth yourself then

I said it's not alien crosstalk.

how are you sure?

I already tried disconnecting other devices.

i mean within the actual usb cable
theres... 8? wires in tehre
if they are badly insulated
...

todays wires have a plethera of insulation, what is missing is the metal (copper) to conduct the datas :-)

6:07 PM
xD

6:18 PM
@bwDraco ferrite beads are what we use when science, expertise, experience, and flat out guesses have all failed. They never help.

but they look cool :-)

@Psycogeek No, they look like someone stood at a test house with some equipment that fails EMC test by 0.1%, ran out of other plausible excuses, chucked some piece of crap on the wire, crossed their fingers and then finally got on the right side of the measurement line by the other 0.1%. No one dares to repeat the test again in case it was a fluke, which it almost certainly was.
Been there, done that, exclaimed "How much did we just pay for that fscking t-shirt?!?!?"

6:35 PM
@Mokubai then why do some otherwise extremely reputable cable manufacturers include ferrite beads inline with the cable housing?
they seem like they're practically required for all but cheap crap for HDMI (and, for the record, I've owned cheap HDMI cables, and they're very apt to produce a "noise" signal as often as the actual picture, not unlike an analog TV turned to a channel that gets no reception)

Because when you're connecting two pieces of equipment that have crap earthing and are picking up mains hum then they might be useful, but 99.999999999999999999999999999999% of the time they do the sum total of sweet duck all.

@Mokubai I don't think my equipment picks up mains hum at all; I have a very good UPS / surge protector / filter / power conditioner unit in front of my sensitive equipment

they sorta need to have a good outter ground wire to begin with on the wire, and mitigate only external influences from effecting the wire. they dont do anything for a problem that is originally caused by the poor quality of cable. Appropriate that they exist on cables that dont need them :-)

and then an 80 Plus Gold high-end modular switching power supply on my computer that delivers one of the cleanest feeds ever to the componentry of the computer

@Tiffany Yes it is

6:47 PM
!!Caaaat

@Mokubai You need one of 'em $10,000 ethernet streaming cables

!!Caaaaat

lol
I'm done

6:48 PM
@Annaduh And some of those gold plated optical audio cables

!!tell 33947449 Caaaaaat

@Mokubai Yeah, gold neutralizes earth hum in proportion to its price

@Annaduh XD
so cute

@Tiffany are these cute too?
!!maat

nope

I'm a crazy cat lady.
so, I'm biased.

the Maine Coon girl in my gravatar is mine

instagram.com/12catslady this is my dream

6:54 PM
that's the "If I think about treats hard enough you'll give them to me" stare

:3
I have a torty and a Maine Coon mix
My torty is pretty sassy, which I'm starting to think is the norm with torties. My Maine Coon mix is a huge love bug.

when she thinks I'm going to give her treats, ANYTHING I say gets an immediate, loud, emphatic meow back from her

he just wants love and attention
haha, yeah, whenever I get up, mine runs to the kitchen near the food bowls, and meows at me incessantly.
and then rubs on me, rubs on the corner of the cabinet, rubs on the door frame, rubs on everything

"Are you a dog?" "Maaaah!" "Do you want dog biscuits?" "Maaaaah!" "You want celery?" "Maah!"

haha
mine has a kitten meow
he was neutered before he went through puberty, which I think is why
I wanted to avoid the whole spraying thing altogether.

6:58 PM
my Maine Coon literally says "mah"

lol, my other cat mimics phrases I say

do your cats have lick buttons?

over the weekend I was laying on the bed, and she was laying on me, I had to get up, so I have to move her, and she meows like she's saying, "whaaa?"
lick buttons?

an area of some cats near their tail on one side or both sides where a gentle scratch (has to be deep enough that they feel it on the skin) causes them to lick the air incessantly, and sometimes make really silly noises

not mine

my Maine Coon's back is really sensitive. For a really long time he wouldn't let me pet him because it irritated something, he'd get frustrated, have to scratch or lick, and would leave me.

but he's starting to desensitize. If I scratch his back, he likes that

> This is MazeWar. Many ages before Doom or Quake, MazeWar was the origional 3D, networked, multiplayer, productivity killing, first person shooter game.
Maze War (also known as The Maze Game, Maze Wars, Mazewar or simply Maze) is 1974 computer game which originated or disseminated a number of concepts used in thousands of games to follow, and is considered one of the earliest examples of, or progenitor of, a first-person shooter. Uncertainty exists over its exact release date, with some accounts placing it before Spasim, the earliest first-person shooter with a known time of publication. Although the first-person shooter genre did not crystallize for many years, Maze War had a profound impact on first-person games in other genres, particularly...

@allquixotic I should try this. When I had to give my cats medication, holy crap, it was like it was the end of the world.

7:03 PM
> a 1974 computer game
:-0

Pong!

I was more amazed at a 3D, networked, multiplayer computer game in 1974

sigh My internet is letting down my testing of this new computer

7:45 PM
@arda @JourneymanGeek I edited it out. But the original is obviously still in the edit history. Not sure if there's a mod edit mode that'll completely purge it.

@MichaelFrank there is afaik
@Rahul2001 neato! I think I recently found someone I like too :)

Superficially this should be enough for now.

8:08 PM
@allquixotic lul one of my old cats would just faceplant if you did that
@Tiffany I used to have a cat that'd try and meow 'hello'

@djsmiley2k "ra-rau" probably means "feed me!"

!!/bearhello

@allquixotic the weirdest is baby cries
@allquixotic nah, he just liked greeting people
and he'd thank you for opening the door for him

8:40 PM
@Psycogeek Well spotted :)

@djsmiley2k I have had cats like that. My favorite is the youtube video of the cat barking.

9:07 PM
@MichaelFrank i've flagged it for mod attention, hopefully they can resolve it before any more people sign @JourneymanGeek up for penis enlargement emails

@Burgi I had to read that twice. It doesn't make quite so much sense if you read it (as I did at first) as two separate posts ... ;p

rubbish!
> With out an error I do not think that I will be able to assist you. I cannot replicate this in our setup, so I can only presume that it has something to do with your environment.

I get a line break after "sign" :)

LOL
grumbles about terrible support for free software...

!!/noisykittens

hi @tereško

:D
yo, @Tiffany

Bob
10:10 PM
@bwDraco self-fulfilling prophecy.

Yup.
People realize there's a NAND shortage, rush out to get SSDs, and make the problem worse.

Thanks University of Wisconsin! Your UknowIT help page for IT related issues around campus has solved my 2 year old problem.

Hmm. Someone is reporting on this Google Cloud Print issue that's causing Epson printers to bootloop. druckerchannel.de/… (German)

@bwDraco Yeah. Same solution

Bob
> printer
> bootloop
well, it'd be wrong to say I'm surprised
but yea that there's a printer fault.
as usual.

hello

Hi!

is there a way to show traffic from localhost server to localhost server in wireshark?

Bob
it's me 🎶
3

oh nevermind they are there

11:04 PM
fecking hell
NMS crashed
the irony of it being a better game is now it is less stable
and no logs

11:34 PM
they've marked my flag as useful but not nuked the history...

The handler probably submitted the redaction, but another mod has to approve it

its not quick this process is it...

@Burgi oops

i wasn't the one that spotted it

Yeah. Needs 2 people to redact.

Bob
11:59 PM
@MichaelFrank bad @MichaelFrank, bad! address.com is not an approved example domain!
